Loud music coupled with revving engines tore through what used to be the tranquil silence of Jasper's forests, acting as a beacon to all who value high speed action and thrills above all else. As the last of the sun's rays dipped over the horizon the last of the racers gathered at the improvised starting line, overly eager to get under way. There were only four other cars lined up at the moment, an odd sight given the race was so very close to starting. Still, customs were followed, giving a few precious minutes to any latecomers or stragglers who were held up for whatever reason ample time to arrive and roll up. While normally the racers would consist of American muscle cars and maybe one or two imports, this race seemed to be dominated by imports. Only a single muscle car was brave enough to arrive it seemed. As the drivers prepared for what they believed to be an easy and uncrowded race, several recent "newcomers" were making their way to the starting line with utmost haste...
A crimson Aston Martin rolled up, the music seeming to be blaring and shredding from what might be a custom stereo system. 'If you like to gamble, I tell you I'm your man, You win some, lose some, it's all the same to me, The pleasure is to play, makes no difference what you say, I don't share your greed, the only card I need is The Ace Of Spades' It seemed that the speed metal was to get the racer amped up.
But this racer was different. Others seemed to open their windows; this one kept the windows closed. Engines roared and this one's was no different. This one couldn't be different most of the time.
Except he was. There was no human inside--not that the fleshies needed to know that. He just wanted to race, without exposing the Decepticons. He wasn't that stupid, especially in the wake of everything that had happened.
With the final driver now in place, it looked as if it would be a five-man race instead of a four. As each of the human drivers took off their parking breaks and shifted into drive, the bystanders could feel the ground rumble with both anticipation and horsepower. The announcer slowly hoisted the checkered flag high to announce the start of the race, but rather than waving it, the man stopped halfway. Several of the drivers bumped their cars forwards only to slam the breaks to see why the race had been momentarily stalled.
There was another car coming up the road from behind the rest of the drivers, possibly another latecomer. The final racer pulled up directly next to the free space next to the Aston Martin, letting the rest of the group get a look at them. They were driving a red Ford GT40 with two white stripes painted right up the middle. Anyone could tell that most of the cars here were sports cars, lamborghini's, ferrari's, and bugatti's; but this newest challenger's machine looked built to race in the truest sense of the word. A collection of racing stamps adorned various sections of the vehicle, and the number '32' was painted on both the hood and sides, with a white circle surrounding it. The GT's windows were tinted, but not enough to block out any curious glances. While distinct features were hard to make out, it could be ascertained that this car indeed had a driver.
Interesting, Knock Out mused to himself. Someone who seemed to be quite the seasoned racer, and in a Ford GT40 no less. Oh, how they were trying to put a simple Aston Martin DB5 to shame. But didn't they know? Knock Out had no shame. At least, not shame that he would show.
He revved his engine, loving to listen to it purr and roar all at once. His form was built to race and had a need for speed. He didn't need fancy stickers or a number when he was streamlined, street-legal, with tires ready to scream. And scream they were going to do with this race.
His stereo blared louder, "Ace of Spades" still roaring from it.
Override revved up her engine in response, already more than eager to start burning rubber. As much as she enjoyed ripping up some of Jasper's underpopulated back roads to pass the time, she'd be lying to herself if she wasn't absolutely itching to see just what kind of stuff Earth's racers were made of; she sincerely hoped they were fast.
A few more moments passed as the race organizer waited for any more drivers, given Override's late addition. As seemingly all drivers were ready the flag dropped, at long last. The Velocitronian leader sped off the microsecond that the race began, her form allowing her to steal a comfortable spot in second place, just one length behind the leader. Although he made quite the effort to block Override from stealing first, the lead driver was less than successful at shaking the seasoned racer off. Override made no overt maneuvers to seize first place, instead opting to continue to get a feel for the other racers and she observed them silently from second place.
Knock Out himself was almost immediately firing on all cylinders the moment the race started. He himself was a bit more aggressive in his endeavors. Several racers had nearly been rammed into while Knock Out purposely snarled his engine to make it sound like an angry beast about to get them. Amateurs. Apparently they couldn't handle a little bit of aggression toward them.
He seemed to whip past a few, soon taking a comfortable third, with his "eyes on the prize" so to speak. His vents seemed to be cranking hard. That was no ordinary racer just ahead in second. Maybe not the most aggressive but definitely more experienced than the fleshies he had just scared off the road.
He made an aggressive rumble of his engine, a smirk crossing his faceplates hidden within.
The noisy speed demon in third place reminded Override of more than a few racers back home, strangely. His maneuvers were bold, aggressive, and professional. Most of the other drivers she'd observed had certainly tried their best to get past him, to little success; their flashy driving was nothing compared to the driver of the Aston Martin. She didn't falter when he roared a challenge from the depths of his engine, opting to roar out one of her own as a response. He was eating up the other drivers, but he would not have her.
Override blocked him hard, denying him the crucial space needed to overtake her from the inside. Whenever he would swerve in any direction, she remained in front of him to block. Both drivers were almost perfectly in tune with one another, strangely.
Knock Out's engines continued to roar. This one, he recognized the driving style of finally. This one was definitely more than meets the eye. This one had to be Velocitronian. But what was a Velocitronian doing on Earth? One could have asked the same of a Vosian on wheels but Knock Out had been called to earth. There was no denying that.
He suddenly tried a motion that looked more like a maneuver from the skies of Vos than a maneuver from Velocitron. Yes, he had learned how to race on Velocitron, but the Vosian in him still sometimes adapted things from skies to the ground. He seemed to aggressively jet forward and fall back, repeatedly. It was a Vosian intimidation method perfected over millennia.
Override took notice of the other driver's tactics as he accelerated forward, then slid back repeatedly. He was trying to provoke her into giving up the inside, or just trying to get her to slip up. That was no racing technique, however; you'd have to be nuts to expose yourself so aggressively like that. Still, he was slowly gaining ground as Override continued trying to block him from second.
Then it hit her: he could have second place for all she cared, so long as she took first. Override broke off her defense as they rounded a hairpin turn, peeling off towards the rather nervous first place racer. Truth be told she had just been observing the other racers from a secure position until now. But now? Now it was real. The GT40 started to swerve back and forth as it neared the lead car, who was staunchly defending their position on the inside. There. Override tilted herself so much that her two right wheels were hanging in the air. She quickly veered off to the side railing, planting half her tires on the edge.
She used her precarious position to her advantage, speeding up on the railing to weasel her way to the inside of the track, much to the shock of the leader. Override overtook the leader at long last, pulling herself off the railing to fortify her spot in first place. Whoever this mystery racer was, he could have second place. She wanted him all to herself.
Knock Out seemed to huff through his vents faintly. It seemed this other racer was catching on. He was trying to intimidate and it was giving her an excuse to fight for first. He would pass by the still confused former race leader with a roar of his engine sounding almost like a jet turbine for a moment.
The one he was needling was definitely a professional and seemed calm. This boded well! The humans were starting to seem quite far back compared to the two mecha now, but he couldn't reveal he was a mech just yet. That was a stupid thought.
Damn right she was a professional. Override kept up her hold on first place, now practically alone on the road, save for her new friend. At long last she could finally see what he was capable of, and show off a bit herself. The road snaked around into a tunnel dug out of the side of the mountains, allowing the pair a decent stretch of uninterrupted road.
The GT40 drifted through the first turn leading into the tunnel, steering just enough to leave herself with a straight line of entry. She was interested in seeing how her friend would react in such an enclosed area, away from human eyes.
