"Guess modified optics must be trending." Moonracer remarked, holding her rifle aloft somewhat but faced away from either of them just in case. "Got that right though. We live for speed." She mused, never being one to be ashamed of showing her pride for her home and their need for speed. It was what Velocitron thrived on, how they lived, even if there were some aspects of its culture she was somewhat concerned with deep down. But, these were concerns she preferred keeping to herself since things might change with Override remaining their Suprema.
For the time being, Moonracer settled with watching Perceptor's shots, seeing the much smaller barrelled blasters, which always had a harder time maintaining good accuracy at certain distances. She knew that all too well herself. Her smaller blaster sometimes wasn't exactly accurate unless she used her modified optics to help with test range and calculating some things in her processor before she took the shot. Or, she sometimes just reacted and prayed to Primus her shots were true. "Could always try both." She suggested, referring to his concern of doing something different with the scope.
Though, she gave a slight smile when he inquired about other modifications. "I suppose I should have seen that question coming, Velocitronians love to modify their bodies as much as they love to race." Moonracer just shook her head. "Only my optics are modified Perceptor, I have held no interests in upgrading or modifying anything else, much as my Amica and other friends back home have tried convincing me to do." She explained, reaching back to put her rifle away.
"You see, modifications don't quite interest me as my other fellow racers. Our culture is based on it, but I'm one of those few who wanted to prove you don't need them to make a name for yourself or get in the higher racing circuits." She told him, looking at the hovering disks for a moment. "I made a name for myself not through simple racing or the types of mods I had, I made it simply racing our capital city, Delta, for a whole day with the flames that sweep across our home not far behind. In other words, I only have one modification because it was out of necessity, not aesthetic concerns."
Perceptor's optics widened. "This is the first time I've heard of a Velocitronian racer without modifications," he said. "I don't quite understand. Why go the hard route when you could modify yourself and win easily? Unless you have financial problems, but the optical modifications say otherwise."
The scientist's brows furrowed. "If I understand your culture correctly, I would not consider speed mods 'aesthetic'. They are required for greater speeds, and if you are slow, you can't survive. I'm surprised someone could race Delta. I imagine the ground is different every day from melting and cooling down. You can't prepare for a crevice that appeared overnight from thermal contraction. Even without these large obstacles, the ground would not be easy for someone without off-road mods." His tank treads spun as if on cue. "Anyway, can you transform? I'd like to see how much more efficient you can be. I will probably leave it to the computer in my hab suite. I do not like calculating turbulence."
"You'd be surprised, some on Velocitron value showing off some of their mods as much as they love racing." Moonracer chuckled a little, rubbing her chin in thought, "In fact, you might be surprised how many of Velocitron's residents get rather...vain, about their capabilities and skills, or how flashy they look. I think there was a mech I once knew, might as well have been the definition of what some of our culture is like." But for the life of her, Moonracer could not recall what the mech's name was. It was almost a faint memory, he was red, full of himself, but tolerable. Huh, maybe it come to her eventually.
But she frowned slightly after a bit more thought, "Every planet has the down sides of their culture Perceptor. I've seen what Velocitron's has done, and I was adamant in proving those without modifications are just as capable, which I've more than proven with precision, calculation, and my skills I've learned from my years on the track." She explained, but didn't seem so keen to elaborate more on the problems she had noticed. Instead, she stepped back to have some space, "We are capable of changing our tires you know. I did think the whole thing through...mostly." Moonracer said with a sheepish smile. But, that was another thing about Velocitron, getting your name out there. And she had done just that.
With that, she shifted to her vehicle mode as Perceptor had asked. "We did come up with designs over time to make use of solar energy as an alternative power source to energon. Considering how Velocitron is, it seemed the most effective method so we didn't waste our energon reserves." Moonracer explained, but her curiosity was getting the best of her. "But what is it you wanted to examine, perceptor?"
"To each their own, I suppose," Perceptor said. He did not particularly like racing, but he did like modding himself. One thing he prided himself on was that he made all his mods himself, which involved a few primary lunar cycles of study into Cybertronian biology.
I suppose I could understand her aversion to mods, the scientist thought. I wouldn't want others poking around inside me, adding things I'm not familiar with. He would not like objects with a foreign origin in his chassis either, which he supposed was a concern others had too. Thankfully he knew how to do it himself.
Moonracer's answer didn't convince him, but then again he supposed that not every reason would convince everyone. She must be incredibly confident in her ability to race without mods.
"Velocitronian solar energy designs are absolutely phenomenal," Perceptor said, remembering his awe upon examining their efficiency for the first time. He didn't even think it was possible to do so without sufficient fundamental research, but Velocitron was the exception that, thankfully, proved the rule.
"Is this vehicle more aerodynamic than your Velocitronian mode?" Perceptor asked. "It would make racing harder if this is worse than the old one."
"Well, our sciences have mostly gone towards how to make ourselves faster, lighter, less energy consuming. I think even you would could relate that when you're dedicated to something break-throughs are possible." Moonracer explained. She was not one to be particularly interested in the sciences, it never really caught her interest. But, she did understand, like most on her home planet, finding the right forms and ways to conserve their resources was always a concern. "Lacking resources is a good incentive too."
Moonracer paused, picturing her old form before she had scanned this one. "I would say this one is a bit more aerodynamic than the last one, little more slender too." She admitted, her engine giving an idle purr as she started it up. "I just might keep it if I ended up going off world again." She told him, seeming quite enthusiastic about the prospects the form held.
"'Necessity is the mother of invention', as they say here," said Perceptor. "But it doesn't mean it will always succeed. Without sufficient knowledge, the number of inventions possible is frankly very limited."
He considered her alt-mode. "Its ground clearance is quite low," he commented. "If you want to keep racing off-road, you may have to modify that. Off-world might prove a bit tricky. Charged dust might stick to you, especially your tyres. There is no atmosphere to erode their sharp edges so enough of it might puncture them. I prefer a more versatile alt-mode though, such as this half-track. Quite uncommon, but it fulfills my needs. I would have preferred my old hover tank mode, but it stands out too much on Earth. It would probably waste a lot of fuel too in hovering without a metallic surface."
“Tell that to Velocitronians, more often than not they really don’t care to listen. Same could be said for most of Velocitronian society.” Moonracer mentally frowned at thinking about the downsides to her home planet, but there just was no changing the minds of the vain and prideful such as racers. ‘We need more like minded bots like Perceptor back home.’ She thought before she rolled back once more from the scientist, shifting back to her bipedal form, transforming into a one-handed hand stand before flipping to land on her feet.
“But, I usually try to be ready for what new roads might come my way, spare tires always on hand and trying to adapt as the conditions change.” Moonracer assured him, resting her hands on her hips. “Though, my old form did sit a bit higher than this Earth form, so if worse comes to worse I could always shed this one and return to the one I once had.” She gave a light shrug of her shoulders but nevertheless kept her joyful demeanor.
