Characters:Spacewarp , @silentsky Location: The Nemesis's Crew Quarters Content Warnings: Drinking Plot Summary: Spacewarp invites a co-worker over for drinks.
It had been a long while since Spacewarp ever considered doing something like this, let alone actually going through with it. Yet, there she was, walking through the halls of the Nemesis carrying two bottles of Engex, something special for later, and two glasses. The fact that Silentsky was even getting such treatment was a conundrum, although Spacewarp knew deep down. She brushed off a few strange glances from passing Vehicons as she made her way back, simply happy nobody worthy of note was getting a look at her.
She made it back to her quarters without further incident, thankfully. The only real problem she'd encountered were the chairs. Silent's wasn't a problem, she wasn't that large of a femme to begin with. Spacewarp on the other hand, was. She actually needed to sit in two seats in order to be properly accommodated, as embarrassing as it was. In hindsight, Treadbolt would've been laughing.
So there she sat, waiting. Either Silentsky would enter in just a few minutes, or she wouldn't. Either way, Spacewarp would have some drinking to do.
Silentsky had been surprised to receive an invitation from Spacewarp to meet her for drinks. The two had talked a while when they first met, even had gone on a flight together that had almost ended with Silentsky having a nasty fall if she hadn't reacted like she did. But, she hadn't expected to go beyond that one meeting. Quite frankly, she had met few who would consider her good company, so she had come to expect no one would exactly be open to inviting her to a drink or two. It seemed she was proven wrong for once.
Walking the halls to Spacewarp's quarters, Silentsky ignored the looks she got as well, her wings giving the smallest twitch in curiosity. Once she arrived to the door, Silentsky gave a few gentle knocks to announce she had arrived before the door opened, allowing her to peer in. Silentsky had a feeling Spacewarp's room might be a bit more decorative than her own, but she hardly glanced around much when her attention was quickly drawn to the larger femme, sitting and waiting already.
"Captain," Silentsky spoke in her usual whispering voice, but audible to hear as she approached, giving a slight nod in greeting. "Apologies to keep you waiting Spacewarp, I was just returning from a patrol when you sent the invitaion." Silentsky explained, being a few minutes late to their get together but she was there, and that's what counted, right? "I hope things have gone well as of late since we last spoke?" She inquired as she took the open seat opposite of Spacewarp, force once in a rare time retracting her face guard to reveal an angular face like most fliers, the lower parts of a couple scars across part of her face visible while the rest remained covered by her visor.
Oh good, she actually showed up. At least Spacewarp's efforts hadn't been in vain. She tilted her head up to meet Silent, forgetting that her visor was still on out of habit. The Seeker's spark shivered at the mention of 'Captain'. It was a gesture she hadn't expected in the slightest; not only was it immensely thoughtful, it also served as a painful reminder to Spacewarp's predicament. She opted to think of it in the former light.
Still, Silent was treating her as if her rank still carried weight, although perhaps it was Spacewarp thinking wishfully. She'd been plenty polite with her in the past as well. She perished the thought for now. "They haven't gotten any worse, so that in and of itself is a victory."
The visor caught her off guard. Of course she'd have to take if off to drink. Spacewarp had simply forgotten to take off her own as well. She did so promptly, reaching to pull over the two glasses. Her internal embarrassment wasn't assisted by the fact that Silent was cute, too.
Not one to pussyfoot around a subject, Spacewarp dove right in. "You'll have to excuse me if I seem a bit flustered. Its been quite a while since I've done this."
Watching Spacewarp remove her visor, Silentsky mentally tossed around the idea of removing her own aside from her face guard. She rarely did so. There was nothing to hide in Silentsky's case, it was just habit. Having her visor off normally felt...weird, especially when it was for long periods of time. But, she could make an exception.
"Starscream's not giving you too much trouble I hope." Silentsky responded, sending a command to her internal computer causing her red glassed visor to rise up, blinking emerald green optics a few times to adjust them. Yea, it always took some getting use to not having that lowered. Despite exposing her face around someone she barely knew however, Silentsky didn't feel any nervousness or shyness striking, not like normal. Instead, she was quite relaxed, intending to try and be comfortable while she spent some time with the larger Seeker.
Wings going up with some surprise, Silentsky hadn't exactly noticed Spacewarp seeming to be flustered. But a soft chuckle left her, "To be honest, I didn't realize you were." She admitted, a faint smile coming to her face plates. Although, she still couldn't help the curiosity that followed, "And been a while since you've done what exactly, Spacewarp? Just had a drink with someone?" She inquired.
Green? Spacewarp thought the Decepticons of this universe all sported distinctly red optics. She herself originally possessed a pair of golden ones, prior to her reformatting. They were such a stark contrast to the rest of the ship, being of course coated in dull grays and violets. She was shaken out of her miniature haze by Silent's next comment. Her mind cringed, having betrayed a hint of her feelings, not to mention before any drinking had begun as well.
She answered Silentsky's question in her mind before she answered it aloud. Since I'd had an inkling of interest in another bot, or affection towards anyone else for that matter. Spacewarp quickly converted her answer into a more co-worker friendly version, "Yes. Peace and quiet's a rare commodity where I come from."
With that, the Decepticon got down to business. She pulled the first bottle of Engex over, twisting off the cap yet leaving it sitting in place. With a bit of swagger Spacewarp flicked the cap off the bottle, letting it hit the floor adjacent to the pair. By her estimates, which were usually correct, they wouldn't be needing that cap any time soon.
Multitasking, she poured the drink in both glasses, simultaneously reaching into a compartment on the side of her waist, retrieving a single cy-gar. Spacewarp set the bottle down as she chomped down on the device, lighting it with a single spark from snapping her fingers. She took a single drag from it before pausing to start up on her drink, holding both in her right hand as she slowly remembered how much she missed relaxation like this.
Looking over Silentsky, Spacewarp had to admit she was a bit curious. Curious as to how she could handle a drink, more specifically; or five, or ten.
Her faint smile turned into a full one of amusement, “I wouldn’t exactly say peace and quiet is common here either.” Silentsky commented, having never really known the Decepticons to be a quiet bunch. Sometimes, she missed the days before the war, when it had just been her and her unit. They had been a rowdy bunch, yet they knew when quietness was necessary, or at least the need for a low volume. That wasn’t exactly the protocol here. Going out on solo patrols was something Silentsky actually welcomed over staying on the ship. which was buzzing with activity like an insecticon hive in a frenzy.
Focusing her attention back on her companion however, Silentsky watched the finesse and swagger Spacewarp could display. It was quite enjoyable to watch really. Spacewarp seemed to carry herself with pride and confidence, and even in a more relaxed setting it was quite clear here.
“Do you always display such swagger or are you just trying to impress? Because I have to admit, I wish I had half the finesse you do.” Silentsky asked, a faint hint of teasing underlying her words as she took her own glass. But she only carefully stirred the contents for a moment, recalling it had not been since before the war she had actually had such energon. It was a stronger and more intoxicating variant, which she had only had a few times before. She recalled the playful and teasing remarks of her older unit members, joking about how she couldn’t hold her high grade, being nothing more than a light weight. She was pretty sure she had gone overboard once in fact, ‘Lets not have a repeat of that again Silent, specially not in front of Spacewarp.’ She thought, not exactly wanting to embarrass herself in front of the older seeker.
“Been a while since I’ve had any of this.” She admitted as she took a few sips, making slight face at the strong taste. “Yea, definitely been a while.” But, that wasn’t stopping her from sharing a few with Spacewarp. Maybe they just needed some conversation. “If you don’t mind me asking Spacewarp, tell me more of what it’s like to have a ground based form. I know you mentioned it when we last spoke, and I’ve been a bit curious.” Silentsky inquired, letting her gaze meet Spacewarp’s, drinking some more of the engex.
It was true, Spacewarp had broken drinking down to a science. She took another pull and a sip before responding, "It's always good to over-achieve. That, and I have more reasons to practice than should be allowed." Also true; Primus had a sick sense of humor, and the punchline was always more drinks.
Spacewarp didn't like dawdling on the past for too long, especially in a negative light. Then again, Silent had asked for a story, and she was not one to disappoint. Scooting forward, Spacewarp put her elbow up on the table, supporting her glass.
"I was cold constructed as a car, and as a mech no less," she started, pausing to motion to herself, "Bit of a far cry from the big jet sitting before you, so you can guess how I was supposed to have turned out originally."
Spacewarp paused to exhale a plume of blue smoke off to the side of the table, before continuing, "I never questioned it at the time, just drove around in the body that'd been provided to me; I sure as hell made the most of it, though. Spent every last shanix I had to look good for shows, and races. Eventually my sister and I had our chassis rebuilt to a more feminine shape, but we'd grown too attached to our alt-modes to even think about changing them."
"Hm, yes. I suppose its not unwarranted, considering what you've gone through as of late." Silentsky agreed with a nod, before taking a small gulp of her engex. Although she would hardly agree drowning oneself in engex was a good way of drowning out hardship, she wasn't about to criticize the larger Seeker. Spacewarp, from their brief talk of themselves before this, had been through quite a life so she had her ways of dealing with it. And Silentsky had hers.
But, she put her full attention on Spacewarp when she began to give a little background on herself. Something more in-depth than earlier. So, Silentsky flattened her top four wings against her back so she could recline a little in her seat, turning her body to face Spacewarp as she began answering her question.
As Spacewarp spoke, Silentsky continued to sip her drink, but for a moment couldn't help her optics wandering Spacewarp's frame. She was trying to imagine the former captain before her as a car, possibly aerodynamic by what she said about shows and races, and being constructed in a more masculine appearance. It was...strange to think about, mostly because she had become use to Spacewarp already being as she was now. Though, the image was there in her processor, before Spacewarp mentioned a sister.
Silentsky opened her mouth to inquire about the femme's family, but decided against it a moment later and closed her mouth again. That probably was one memory best not to bring up this early in the conversation. "You didn't upgrade to a flier until it was necessary then?" Silentsky asked, mostly as a confirmation to what she was recalling of their previous encounter.
Spacewarp nodded her head, folding her arms over the table, "I never knew I wanted to be a flier until I actually was one, I should say." In hindsight, the whole transition from being a four wheeled racer to a supersonic jet had been a fun one. For starters it was a completely new world of speed that was opened up for her, and yet there was so much more. Spacewarp often times wondered if she was meant to be a jet at all, despite liking it so much. At other times, she merely envied the forged.
Taking another pull from her cy-gar, she went on, "Now I still don't know who the bot was that scouted me, but they did a bang up job. Picked me out from security footage from a race in lower Nyon, noticed how well I maneuvered as part of a group, and apart from one. Next day, the Decepticons set a trap for me, and hauled me off to recruit me."
She leaned back in her chair(s), noticing that she'd already emptied her glass. Spacewarp simply raised her glass and tilted the bottle, topping herself off once again. "As an Autobot at the time, naturally I was terrified. Not to mention I was tiny, and they were so big."
Silentsky was about to make a remark about being a jet, about being able to experience freedoms some grounders never would. But as she was taking a last sip of her drink, she almost choked before swallowing after, giving a few coughs. She was actually shocked to hear Spacewarp had been an Autobot of all things. Silentsky honestly stared wide optic for a moment at Spacewarp, mouth slightly agape since she wasn't quite sure what to say to that.
Realizing it might be rude with her reaction, Silentsky cleared her throat and got herself another glass. "Guess they really know how to pick you out in your universe, having a flying frame suits you. Stunning in fact." Silentsky assured her without really thinking about what reaction her words could bring. But, she meant her words. Imagining the femme opposite of her anything else was rather difficult to imagine and a part of Silentsky was glad Spacewarp seemed to find her calling. Although, she felt bad the way she ended up a Seeker was probably less than a pleasant experience.
"But, I can imagine the ordeal was quite overwhelming." She murmured, an experience she didn't quite share when it came to her own frame. "I was constructed cold as you see me now. And I could never imagine being anything else." Probably was something hard to believe, but she was certainly one of those who felt she had found where she belonged frame wise.
If the slight choke was any indication, Spacewarp had some explaining to do. Her Autobots were far different from Silentsky's. Regardless, she was certain they'd get to it somewhere down the bottle later in the night, so she moved on. She followed Silent's lead and took another gulp of her Engex, not the least bit offended by her shocked expression. "Different universe, different Autobots, remember?"
Pausing to adjust her wings, she continued to listen at Silent's attempts to repair the flow of conversation. Spacewarp stopped as her guest punctuated the end of her statement, her carefully tucked wings lifting up just a bit in elation. "Oh..." Red optics darted around frantically for a half second before Spacewarp controlled her reaction, balling her hand into a fist to rest her chin on, leaning over the table.
She cleared her throat to cut the tension like a knife, folding one of her legs over her knee, getting back on track, "It was a rough transition, though learning to fly was probably the most embarrassing part about it. I tried to transform into a car the very first time, crashed on the runway we were taking off of."
The memory, regardless of how shameful it might've seemed in hindsight, always brought Spacewarp a gentle smile. It was a simpler time, after all. "The moment I came online, I hated it. Like waking up to feel your mind in somebody else's body. I rejected so many bodies before the Decepticons reformatted me, and I've stuck with this form ever since..."
Different Autobots, that would be a concept Silentsky would have to get use to when it came to Spacewarp. It was harder to imagine the Autobots being any different than they were now in this universe. Then again, Spacewarp had also mentioned the Starscream of her world, one who had succeeded in his attempts at leadership, was different as well. There was a fair bit she still had to learn when it came to Spacewarp’s home universe, but for now they had all the time into the night to discuss things. If they didn’t lose themselves to drunkenness first.
She took note, however, of the brief rise in Spacewarp’s wings and her optics darting around rather quickly. It was only then she realized her words probably were embarrassing the larger femme, causing Silentsky to rub the back of her neck in embarrassment, “Pardon my choice of words Spacewarp, I suppose that was a little over the top.” She apologized with a weak chuckle. “But, at least they are the truth.” She admitted with a faint smile, averting her gaze for a moment to her drink, taking a quick gulp to try and release that awkward tension she felt. She rarely spoke her compliments in such a forward manner, and had not intended to make things so tense and embarrassing for either of them.
Though, her green optics once more came back to Spacewarp, only able to imagine that first flight. “They do say the first flight is always the toughest.” She agreed with a smile returning to her faceplates. Despite her awkwardness, that certainly was one thing she could share. “I remember shortly coming online. My mentor and unit leader insisted I give my form a test run, and in my eagerness I didn’t exactly consider thinking before I took that first launch.” Silentsky shook her head at the memory, “I launched just fine, but I banked too sharply to the left and about had one of my wings gone if I hadn’t leveled out in time near one of the closest buildings. And the landing...my landing gear had seen better days.” She was practically grinning and shaking her head in disbelief by the end of recalling that first attempted flight. Her wing had lost some fresh paint and her landing gear about nearly gone entirely that day.
“Makes you wonder if all fliers go through this process.” She mused, taking a smaller sip of her drink, leaning slightly against the table with a relaxed posture once more.
Spacewarp's optics went wide as Silentsky quickly backpedaled her earlier statement in regarding her performance in the air. She met her guest's gaze with a lighthearted smile, "Oh, no no... you're fine. Don't worry." Despite her best efforts however, she was unable to remove the grin from her face, moving to cover it with her drink when all other options had been exhausted.
Luckily she was able to divert the conversation with the topic of first flight, giving her own experience first, before giving all her attention to Silentsky. They'd had similar experiences from the looks of it, though she doubted Silent emerged from her first flight by looking to see where her wheels were.
She turned her gaze off to the side as if to ponder something, before returning to answer, "Airwalker didn't." Spacewarp leaned back in her seat once again, tucking her left arm under her right. "Soon as he got his wings, he was practically an ace..."
Despite the reassurance, Silentsky couldn’t help looking away this time. Her wings gave a small flutter in both shyness and embarrassment. Being forward was not really her thing, only ever being comfortable with an emotionless facade and smart remark quips from time to time. But, she was more so surprised to find herself so bashful at making such remarks. They were simply co-workers after all, possibly even wing mates eventually, but certainly nothing more. Right?
Mentally shaking off this feeling, Silentsky took another sip before setting her glass down for the time being. She could feel the beginning of a buzz, a sign her systems were starting to feel that overcharge of energy offered by the engex. With her smaller frame and not being much of a drinker, Silentsky would be the first to admit without shame she was somewhat of a light weight, and she really didn’t want to fall into a state where she might not recall half of what was said after the point of her limits.
With her glass aside, Silentsky folded her arms on the table, managing to focus her gaze on Spacewarp without feeling so bashful. In fact, that feeling was replaced with curiosity once more. “Airwalker? Family of yours?” She inquired curiously, although tone still soft despite becoming a bit more normal than her usual whisper she favored.
