Characters:Voltwave Location: Hallways of Autobot Outpost Content Warnings: n/a Plot Summary: After turning over his playpen Solaris goes on a little adventure and on the way meets a new friend.
He'd been so clever today! He'd figured out how to make his playpen tip over so he could roll right on out. His carrier had been so focused on his work that he hadn't noticed right away, and that was all the chance he needed. The tiny sparkling made a break for it, crawling rather than his wobbly walking to get out of there as quickly as he could. Papa would be after him soon enough after all, and he wanted to explore. He wanted to see Requiem. He could go without papa if he moved fast enough, see his brother and play with him and cuddle with him then go back. Papa would never know! Or maybe he'd find 'Gita or 'shade to play with. It was all one big puzzle. Find a friend, evade papa, find Requiem. Tasks for him to do, a game to play.
He also had to avoid being picked up or stepped on by one of the grown-ups. They'd take him back to his carrier, and then papa would be cross and the game would be over. He didn't want to go back yet.
Volt looked around the corner, having once more chosen to make her own escape from the medbay, she looked around the corner hoping not to spot any grownups yet. Although she knew the other Mech and Femme’s weren’t bad, she didn’t want to go back to the medbay yet. She was fine with sleeping there, but she wasn’t tired. Besides it’s already been proven she could make friends when she explored, so she wanted to continue to do once more. Who knew what she could discover, or who she could meet, the possibilities were endless, especially in a place as big as the base.
She knew what Ratchet would say, she needed rest, but she was too excited to rest, she believed in her innocent and naive spark that he understood. She scurried down a corner, keeping an optic out for the big Bots. That’s when she saw someone or something. The Sparkling was confused for a moment before she realized what she was seeing. A potential new friend! She began to follow him, following his lead. She tried to stay quiet since he was.
Little doorwings wiggled aimlessly against his back as he crawled around, making it look as though he were trying to fly. At this point his tiny doorwings had no purpose except to help him express himself, at least no purpose he'd been able to figure out. But papa had doorwings so they had to be good things. He then heard a skittering behind him and so crawled faster as though it were a big bot coming to get him. There were big bots closer to his size, and he didn't want them to bring him back to his carrier either.
But then he got tired and plopped on his rump in a corner where hopefully he was hidden enough not to be discovered. Blue optics looked the way he'd come and finally noticed that the second skittering he'd heard was another sparkling. A playmate at last! Maybe this sparkling could help him on his epic quest to find Requiem!
He waved then made a shoosh motion so that the other wouldn't talk till they got close. And when they did he figured out that she was a femme sparkling and grinned. "Spar'lin, 'ello." He tapped his chassis several times. "Am So-la-ris." He could speak his designation if he broke it down into bits. His papa had been very pleased when he'd done it the first time. "Come ta pway?"
As the Sparkling followed him, her optics caught sight of the doorwings as they wiggled against his back. She knew she had them too, which meant that she thought the two sparklings had something in common. Though for her doorwings were something to play with, which she did by making them wiggle in an all manner of ways from hopping to running. At that moment, she chose not to distract herself with her doorwings, as she followed him, wanting to know where he was going. Her optics blinked when he plopped down.
As she moved to join him, her optics caught sight of the shoosh motion. She was familiar with this, having gotten it possibly when others were in the medbay. So thinking that being quiet was extremely important, she chose not to say a peep until she got close enough to him so that she can talk. Once she had gotten close enough, she found a spot, and plopped down beside him, before she turned her attention back to him.
“hiii!” she greeted and smiled as he introduced himself. She remembered when she met Sagitta she had done the same, and so she thought this was a good way to introduce herself to him. She quickly thought back to the name that was chosen for her, and so she tapped her own chassis several times as well “I, Vol-t-wave” she said and smiled proudly that she remembered her own name. At his next question, she nodded her head “yup!” she said, since the first important part of exploring was completed now was the second part.
"Volt." He spoke her shortened designation with complete seriousness, for a moment making a face that matched his carrier exactly before breaking out into a grin and hugging her. "Hugs, nya." He told her with a giggle. "Go find Req, he bro-ver." He told her, because that was the game.
Of course he knew eventually someone would find them, but for now they were free and on a grand adventure just the two of them. "Volt know 'gita an' 'shade?"
Volt was acceptable to her, she has called herself that many times before, with Sagitta and then with Sagitta’s carrier. So when he chose to call her Volt, she wasn’t bothered at all. Volt blinked her optics in surprise before she smiled and hugged him back. “Hugs, yay!” she said before she was told what she had to do as part of the game. She didn’t know Req, but she felt excited to meet another, especially if it was his Bro-ver, whatever that was.
Volt wouldn’t deny that they would likely be found, but she wasn’t thinking about that since her make a friend and explore chips were really active. Volt broke into a smile “know ‘Gita! She friend!” she told him before frowning “no meet ‘Shade yet,” she told him, hoping that could be fixed soon.
"Nigh-shade. Friend." He could speak clearly, but he had to concentrate on it. He was getting better as he got used to verbal expression. His papa sat and spoke to him all the time, even when he was working. And he spoke often when they were with Requiem. Little doorwings drooped a second then popped back up. He missed his brother. It made him hurt to be away, made him want to cry. But he'd find him! He had a new friend to play with, and a brother to quest forth to find! No time for being sad!
He went back to his crawling position and scuttled along again. "A-venture!" He squealed and started along, looking back every so often to see if she was coming with him.
Volt smiled when she was informed that Nightshade was a friend. Of course Nightshade could be different people, but it wouldn’t matter, more people she met the better. She really loved meeting people that any guilt she should be feeling for being mischievous, they were being nonexistent. The Femme smiled as her new friend squealed A-venture. She did follow along, but a few times when she walked on her pads, she tripped and fell. She wasn’t used to running with them yet. So she followed the way he was at the moment and crawled at a fast pace.
She was soon told that she might like Req and that he was smart. “Yeah!” she replied with a grin. Since her new friend thought she might like someone, she decided that it must be true, since Solaris was a nice boy.
He'd only led them for what seemed like a moment when Solaris ran into a large pede. "Oomf." He rubbed his face then looked up at the offending pede to see who had gotten in his way. His spark sank, then little doorwings perked. "Papa!" And he was scooped up immediately, with Voltwave behind him being scooped up a second later. Solaris just giggled while he was scolded and his carrier fussed over him and checked over every inch of him, turning him this way and that. "Papa!" And he hugged the larger mech's face and cuddled his chassis.
He tapped his papa's chassis several times, wiggled and cuddled and generally made a nuisance of himself. "Papa, papa, papa!" He sang happily. So they'd been caught, at least it was by someone that would cuddle them while they got scolded for wandering off.
He'd been frantic, once he'd realized Solaris had tipped over his playpen without him noticing. He'd practically run over every bot that got in his way, and if he hadn't been in such a hurry to locate his missing sparkling he'd have put the entire base on alert. Solaris was usually such a good sparkling, just sitting quietly and playing, occasionally wanting a cuddle or fed. Things Prowl could provide for him, and he would talk to him on and off as he went through his datapads. He never let the little one sit in silence too long, even playing various sorts of music to help keep him entertained. But today he'd looked away for about a minute then up again and his little mechlet was gone!
Luckly he wasn't hard to find, many mechs had seen him making his way along the hallways on hands and knees, not yet able to walk with any speed. So, after only thirty minutes of a frantic search, he found his sparkling. And another. He didn't hesitate to scoop both of them up, ready to scold them both while he searched for a single scratch or dent on tiny plating. And he was sure Ratchet or Pharma were frantic with worry by now since this had to be one of...He finally got a good look at the little femme he had held against his chassis protectively, doorwings fanning out to shield the pair from view.
"Who are you?" He looked her over again more carefully then tried what he did with his own offspring, he cuddled her against his frame and held her close in his arms. Solaris was cuddling him and singsonging his preferred creator title, which was normal. It made scolding him difficult. Prowl sighed. "Well, we'll figure out where you belong little one. In the meantime you are both coming back to my office with me. Its time for lunch." He butted his helm against first one and then the other tiny body. "Worrying me sick." From there it was back to his office, the playpen now carefully bolted so that it wouldn't tip over again, and each sparkling placed gently inside while he prepared their meal.
Volt hurried after Solaris, trying her very best to keep up with him, but clearly, he was very skilled at crawling. She actually squeaked when he ran right into a large pede, uh oh, this wasn’t good. Clearly, Solaris knew the owner of the pede’s because he called it papa, which she remembered from when she had met Sagitta. Sagitta had someone she called Papa, so this must be Solaris’s papa. Solaris was soon scooped up, and she soon followed soon after being scooped up herself.
Unfortunately, her fear began getting the better of her, fortunately, Prowl was holding her close to him, so all she needed to do was bury her face into his arm, hoping she didn’t shake so much that he would drop her. Her audio receptors heard his question “v v v v v” was the only thing she could manage. Fortunately, Solaris can tell him what her designation was. She wanted to complain, and say that they were going to go see Req, but due to her fear, however, that it turns out would be impossible.
Soon she found herself on solid ground again safe, she plopped down on her aft, while he left, she turned her head to Solaris “I sorry” she said a little quieter than before.
Solaris cuddled his new friend when he noticed she was scared, even scooting towards her once they were set down and patted her. "Is okay. Papa feed us. Papa good, papa safe. Papa keep Volt safe, feed her an' cuddle her." He explained it simply, covering the things that any sparkling wanted from a creator. Care and adoration. Food, safety, and cuddles. All the things that made the world go round.
He also offered her a pick of his favorite toys to help her feel better. And then his papa was back and sat next to the playpen with their energon. Of course he was a big boy and could hold his own cube.
Papa told him not to spill, and he could be careful. And then his papa reached in and rubbed his helm and he was happy. Not so much when he did the same to Voltwave. But it was okay for now.
Solaris was truly a good boy, while she couldn’t see him, she had a distinct feeling that it had been he who was cuddling her. The servo had felt smaller than grownups to the future speedster. She was sure it had been he who was cuddling her.
The Sparkling felt much better when she was set down. She noticed him scooting closer, and the patting. If she hadn’t been feeling too happy before, she definitely felt happy now, to hear what he had to say. It was true, those things he was saying were very important to a Sparkling. She now found herself continuing to smile when he offered a pick of his favorite toys. She soon picked up one of them and began playing with it, mostly she examined it to see what it could do.
Her audio receptors soon heard Prowl’s return, this time with Energon. She remembered the taste the first time she had Energon, it was one of Ratchets Energon, so she knew it had to be good for her.
Solaris got his Energon first, and they were reminded not to spill. She carefully held her cube and consumed the Energon from it. She looked up when her helm was rubbed before she went back to her Energon.
An idea popped into her head, maybe, just maybe they could get Prowl to help them find Req, Solaris’s brother, with his help they would be safe, and Solaris could see his brother, it would be the perfect idea, now she had to put it in words, which was the difficult part.
Solaris finished his cube first and carefully dumped it in the little bin his papa had placed there just for that purpose. A clean sparkling got to play longer. He eventually drug over one of his favorite toys and offered it to Voltwave. "Puzzle." He told her and dumped the pieces out so she could put it together with him or by herself. Either way he was fine with sharing. Sharing was a good thing.
His papa was back at his table, sitting doing something. Probably playing on the pad thing he always had with him. Papa seemed pleased with him again, his little adventure either forgotten or forgiven. Papa was easy to please, he decided. Maybe if Volt was a good sparkling Papa would keep her! Then he'd have a brother and a sister!
