Player Alias: Jaxrond
Character Name: Springer
Allegiance: Neutral
Appearance Description:
Springer is, quite literally, a big, green, fighting machine. Larger than the average bot, he’s built to dish out and take punishment. He’s regarded as fairly good-looking by Cybertronian standards, in a sort of chiseled way. He doesn’t have many mods, but his armor is thick and made for endurance in combat.
Alt. Mode:
Personality:
Springer is, in short, the archetypal action hero. He’s innately good, ready to do what must be done, and able to do what must be done. Trained by Kup and brought up to the status of leading the Wreckers at a young age, he’s a natural soldier and commander. He would never willingly disobey orders, even at one point literally getting up from his death bed because Kup ordered him to. He is unselfishly brave to the point of being extremely self-sacrificial. He’s the one who will take the big hit if it means protecting someone else. Particularly if he regards that someone else as smaller and weaker.
Despite his time spent with the Wreckers, who are known for their brutality, Springer is famous for his innate morality. Yes, he kills Decepticons, just as brutally as his fellows, but, his reasons are always justifiable. Sometimes, he even doesn’t kill ‘Cons, simply because he can’t justify the death of that specific ‘Con. Though this morality was at times seen as a weakness, it also earned him the respect of his fellows, to the point that Impactor would even spare Overlord’s life after disabling the Phase Sixer because the killing of a disabled opponent wasn’t what Springer would want.
Springer is regarded as the best commander to ever lead the Wreckers because of his can do spirit. He once said “Of course it’s a lost cause, that’s why we’re here!”, regarding it as the duty of the Wreckers to be those who stand in the gap when no one else can. The phrase “when the going gets tough, the tough get going” fits Springer very well. The word ‘quit’ isn’t in his vocabulary, and he will quite literally keep going until the day he dies.
As a former commander, and generally good guy, Springer also refuses to leave a comrade behind. He risked himself to save his former mentor, Kup, and has, on numerous occasions, thrown himself into a dangerous situation for the sake of another. The human Wrecker, Verity, seems to hold a special place in his Spark, as has taken great pains to protect her, especially, from the dangers that have threatened her.
Strengths:
Do or Die: Springer’s willpower is one of his greatest qualities. He’s fearless, facing certain death over and over again only to power through. Not even Overlord could truly stop him. This bot simply doesn’t know when, or how, to quit.
Combat Ready: Springer has always been a soldier. It doesn’t matter the range or the weapon, he’s there to kick aft and take names. And he’ll be damned if he doesn’t.
Team Leader: Springer has a lot of charisma, being a generally good guy. He’s also very skilled with military tactics, as long as those tactics are ‘wreck it’. Give him a team and he can coordinate it. Give him orders for that team, and he’s golden.
Best Friend: There’s little Springer won’t do for his teammates, which is part of what endears him to them. He’ll protect them to the end. Quite literally. And his desire to do so is part of what makes him so tough.
Weaknesses:
Self-Sacrificing: Springer is undyingly loyal, but, sometimes, he just isn’t the best guy to sacrifice. Don’t tell him that, though. He’s often dead set that, if anyone’s going to make the big one, it’ll be him.
Only Mostly Dead: Springer was, quite literally, mostly dead for more than four years. Though his body was repaired, his spark is still weaker than before. Add this to his artificial origins and it comes out to serious potential medical issues. Further add it to his PTSD, and it might be downright dangerous for Springer to venture into extended combat.
I Need a Reason: Springer’s morality has sometimes come back to bite him in the aft. Oh, he’ll kill a ‘Con, but, he’s got to have a reason. If he doesn’t, that ‘Con might live to come back and go for him again.
Abilities:
Triple Changer: Springer has both a land-based alt mode, a heavily armored four-wheel all-terrain vehicle, and a chopper alt mode in addition to his root mode.
Weaponry:
Blades: Springer is capable of detaching his combined rotor blades and using them as a sword.
The Big One: Lately, Springer has been carrying a very large, very powerful gun. While it’s not connected to him, he’s still capable of using it well.
Pistols: Springer carries at least two smaller pistols on his person at all times.
Hand to hand: This bot literally went fist-to-fist with Overlord. While he came out worse for wear, he still demonstrated capability against the Phase Sixer. On a normal bot, Springer would be able to wreck serious havoc with his fists.
History:
Springer’s creation was an odd one. He was not sparked in a traditional fashion. Instead, he was created by the work of a scientist, who created an artificial spark maintained by an artificial matrix energy field. When the scientist, who had become a danger, was eliminated, Springer, then Ostaros, was left alive. A new, impressionable being, he was recruited to the Autobots and given his current name.
At first, Springer was assigned to Ultra Magnus’ security force, and was among them when they joined the Autobots early in the war. His world was very black and white. Autobots were good. Decepticons were bad. That was that. Then, war took hold of him and he began to let his conscience slip. Yes, he still needed reasons to kill Decepticons, but that didn’t stop him from joining up with the Wreckers, who were named for, well, Wrecking. Especially Decepticons. Springer would later take command of the Wreckers after the former leader, Impactor, disgraced himself with his execution of Squadron X and was imprisoned. This meant that Springer would report directly to Optimus Prime as the commander of one of the most feared squadrons of the war. The Wreckers continued to operate mostly as they had before, a brutal fist that tore the Decepticon ranks apart, one of their targets including the future Scavenger, Krok’s, squad.
Springer left his position of leadership for some time when Kup, his old mentor, resurfaced after being MIA. He assisted in retrieving him from Tsiehshe, the planet the old bot had been imprisoned on, before resuming his position. This was just one instance of extreme loyalty that Springer demonstrated where Kup was concerned. Springer continued to lead the Wreckers in key battles for a time, though, at one point, when Kup joined them, he deferred to his leadership. His command continued to the retaking of Garrus-9, when the Wreckers ramped up their ranks, even bringing Impactor back into the fold once they arrived.
Springer and the other Wreckers faced Overlord in combat, the Phase Sixer easily overwhelming them to the point that some died and Springer himself was left on life support. Despite this, their liberation of Garrus-9 was successful.
The Wreckers’ leader remained in a comatose state, all but unresponsive to external stimuli for a period of more than four years. When even Impactor, who had resumed leadership and showed great loyalty to Springer, began to think that they should take him off his life support, ‘fate’ intervened. Due to extenuating circumstances, Kup radioed Springer and ordered that he wake up, knowing that the latter would never willingly disobey an order. This was exactly what it took for the Wrecker’s leader to awaken and take command of his squad one last time.
After this final foray, Springer opted to remain on Earth with the honorary human member of the Wreckers, Verity Carlo, having had enough of war and still struggling with his all-too-close brush with death. A short while later, Springer was caught in the convergence, which took him away from the life of peace he’d built for himself on Earth and thrust him back into the war that nearly destroyed him. A war he has no interest in returning to, no matter how much he once believed in the cause.
