Player Alias: Kavac
Character Name: Cosmos
Allegiance: Autobot
Appearance Description: Cosmos is for lack of better descriptors, large round and green. He stands at roughly 35 feet tall, larger than the average Autobot, but only slightly. His color scheme involves a generous application of green, mixed in with yellow accents. His helm and visor, red and blue respectively, are the only contrasting colors whatsoever. His alt-mode is a distinctly Cybertronian UFO, having never had a need to adopt an Earth-based alternate mode.
Personality: Socially inept is a massive understatement in regards to Cosmos. Being a deep-space recon unit for whole decades at a time has worn away what little interpersonal aptitude he once had. Cosmos is a lonely bot and constantly makes attempts to connect to just about anybody that’ll listen. It’s this trait alone that keeps most of Cosmos’s allies away from him, in addition to his actual job.
Aside from his social skills, Cosmos is a remarkably compassionate individual. He’s acquired a knack for looking out for the little guy, especially when nobody else will. Although he’ll certainly try to fit in, Cosmos knows he’ll never really belong to the storied class of legendary Autobot like many of his peers do. He’s happy knowing that he had the potential to be a good friend to those down on their luck, and feels more at home with the washouts than he does with the legends themselves.
Strengths + Weaknesses:
-Lonely - Being sociable is not Cosmos’s strongest suit. His job, and occasionally his personality keep him at arm’s length with the other Autobots. He constantly feels the need to talk to somebody, literally anybody, regardless.
-Complainer - Cosmos complains. A lot. Even if beset by the most insignificant inconvenience, he’s liable to fire up the comms and pour his heart out.
+Surprisingly Skilled - Somehow, Cosmos channeled all of his pent up loneliness into his combat skills; the results speak for themselves. He carries a very broad arsenal of useful skills around, and is mostly the only reason he’s found himself as a member of the top Autobot counter-insurgency, recon, cyber warfare and air units.
+Uncanny Knack for Survival - Cosmos has been dealt some serious injuries over the course of the war, and somehow, unfortunately, he’s bounced back from each and every one. Some might call this luck, but he prefers to call it pure skill. It’s luck.
Abilities:
Combat Pilot - You’d think that with the current state of the Autobot Air Corps, they’d be scraping the bottom of the barrel for pilots. You’d think that would be Cosmos; you’d be WRONG! Cosmos is one of the more skilled Autobot fliers, and one of the very few who have an extensive background in zero-g combat environments.
Recon - Cosmos is equipped as a long-range, deep space recon unit. He carries with him a set of multiphasic sensors, capable of penetrating even the thickest interference. In addition, his optics are borderline telescopic, and he’s able to take images and recordings at a distance in excess of 600 miles.
“Techspert” - His fancy word for a tech expert, Cosmos is a talented hacker, locksmith, and codebreaker. Why nobody takes advantage of these skills is beyond him.
Astronomer - Before the war, Cosmos was used as a space explorer by the Senate Science Council. Although he might not be at the forefront of his field, he does love him a good space.
Longhauler - For those long road trips, Cosmos carries extra Energon tanks, enabling him to survive on his own for extended periods of time.
Stealth Paint - Cosmos was given the distinct honor of being the first test subject for Jetfire’s XK-5 Stealth Paint. While it didn’t afford him the same invisibility that later versions did, when activated, it makes him invisible to radar, sensors and even missile guidance systems. The XK-5 version is worn on top of Cosmos’s frame, and can be switched on or off at will.
Weaponry:
Modulated Blaster Cannons - A set of twin energy casters used by Cosmos as his primary weapons. The frequency at which either cannon fires can be modified by the user at will, allowing for a wide range of functionality ranging from stunning, shocking, burning, or disintegrating.
Antimatter Torpedos - Cosmos is armed a powerful payload of anti-ship Antimatter Torpedos, for those special occasions.
Plasma Bombs - For hard targets on the ground, Cosmos carries around an arsenal of plasma bombs, capable of being dropped rapidly for maximum damage.
History:
Cosmos of Carpessa was constructed cold some time before the Great War. Being a part of the Astro class, he was assigned to be an exploratory probe sent out into space to search for deposits of Energon. Naturally, he wasn’t very good at his job on account of there being little usable Energon in the areas he was ordered to scan in, although many just attributed it to Cosmos being sub-par at his job. Regardless, he took up astronomy as hobby, and occasionally took side-trips to study and categorize certain stellar phenomena that he just deemed ‘neat’.
Being away from Cybertron for so long meant that Cosmos was somewhat out of the loop with the various social problems brewing. He was still out in space as Optimus Prime and Megatron rallied their supporters for war. After returning to Cybertron, Cosmos initially stayed in his home state of Carpessa as a neutral, hoping that the conflict would eventually blow over entirely. As the war would have it, it did not. Carpessa and her population of neutrals were targeted in a Decepticon bombing that leveled the city, and most of her inhabitants. Like the rest of the survivors, Cosmos took up arms for the Autobots, again acting as a long range scout. Although he’d been refitted to serve in a heavy combat role, Autobot High Command valued him for the surveillance he carried out instead. The only reason he was ever given some semblance of recognition in the Autobots was roughly halfway through the war. Shortly after the Autobot defeat at Ky-Alexia, Cosmos detected a cloaked warhead in orbit headed straight for Iacon and the rest of command. Deciding to take matters into his own hands, Cosmos landed on the missile himself in order to reprogram it. His efforts were successful, and the missile detonated harmlessly in the Rust Sea. Unfortunately, it didn’t give him the renown that he might’ve wanted.
Cosmos was sent away from Cybertron again just prior to the Exodus, again as a scout. As the Autobots traveled throughout interstellar space, Cosmos bounced around from commander to commander, serving under the likes of Ultra Magnus, Ginrai, Prowl, and Optimus Prime himself. Optimus eventually sent him to Earth far in advance of Team Prime, unsurprisingly as a high orbit recon unit. Cosmos took scans of Earth for the better part of four decades before Optimus arrived in person, just happy to be working with the Autobot leader. As recon can get quite boring, Cosmos eventually took to ‘playing’ with the humans, mostly by hovering over their backyards in the dead of night, streaking through the sky, or simply by broadcasting mysterious transmissions that actually meant nothing.
Ironically, Cosmos missed the arrival of Team Prime on Earth several years ago, and continued to mess around with humanity in the meantime. He may not have missed Optimus’s signal however, and had just been spending 5 years in orbit waiting for somebody to call.
Roleplay/Writing Sample:
Cosmos wondered why there weren’t more Autobots on Earth. Not just because he felt intolerably lonely up here in high orbit, of course. No, it was because of the crystal clear reception he’d been getting. That, and the humans themselves. The humans! Even though he’d never actually met one in person without them calling the police, or the government, or the military, they were fascinating! They also had exquisite taste in television programming; Cosmos had been flipping back and forth between the airwaves with just one catchy toon or another stuck in his head for weeks. The shows weren’t half bad either.
In his enthusiasm for tuning in to Human signals, Cosmos might’ve missed what was essentially his call to action. But then again, the Borg had just assimilated Picard, so there was no way he was switching off to go and check. He continued to sail through orbit unaware that Optimus Prime had arrived on Earth, still fully enraptured by human television. For a mostly planet-bound species, the humans were unusually fond of space, as was any distinguished and intelligent species-slash-autobot. If left to his own devices, Cosmos could see himself making a home on the little blue marble. But then again, he had a job to do; and besides, the Autobots might call any day now…
Any day now...
