*Please note that this application is an edited version of my previous app when I played First Aid under a different username
Player Alias: Iacon
Character Name: First Aid
Allegiance: Autobots
Appearance Description:
First Aid is a medium size bot both in height and breadth. Primarily red with white accenting, and with the medic cross emblazoned on his playing, there is no doubt about his occupation. He physically resembles many other Autobots. The real differences that set him apart are subtle and not often noticed.
Alt. Mode:
As a medic, First Aid has always taken the form of an emergency vehicle. On Earth, he has selected an ambulance. He moves quite a bit faster than a real ambulance, but he figures no one will notice if he uses his sirens....
Personality:
First Aid is an easily likable bot. He has a level-headed air, generally, and maintains a calm demeanor. As a medic, he’s good at what he does, picking up on new methods and improving himself constantly. As a person, he demonstrates a certain practicality that makes him good to have around in many different situations. One of First Aid’s greatest strengths, beyond his impressive medical capabilities, is his ability to comfortably handle being around many different individuals at once. People don’t bother him, even in a crisis situation, and he’s quite socially adept. This may come with his being part of a gestalt team, or, it might just be him. Whatever the case, he’s proven quite good at handling himself even when others are panicking, even managing to assist those around him in calming themselves in order to act in an efficient manner.
Compassionate to a fault, First Aid is well-known for his willingness to help others, even to the point of causing himself harm. Whether it’s using the energy of his own spark to revive another in a dangerous procedure or crossing a battlefield, the needs of others always come before his own. This has gotten him into trouble a few times, but, thus far, he’s come out with only a few scrapes and dings, much to the relief of his brothers. His compassion is not limited only to Autobots. First Aid has been known to aid the occasional Decepticon as well, which has sparked some difficult discussions between him and his fellows. However, they know that he would never betray them, as he often condemns the actions of the Decepticons, and his loyalty to his friends is beyond a doubt. It's simply his nature to help everyone he can.
As a medic, First Aid is a very mature and pragmatic individual, despite his young age. This often shows itself in the form of wisdom in his handling of various situations. He’s calmly observant, not to the degree of someone of Jazz or Mirage's caliber, but certainly in a way that gives him an edge when approaching a situation. He understands how people work, not just on the physical level, and is able to act accordingly. It also allows him to give very sound advice, which is sometimes not to the liking of the person he’s giving it to. When preparing to enter a combat situation to reach a comrade, he is able to discern the surest route. Of his gestalt brothers, First Aid is the most compassionate, yes, but often acts as a voice of reason among them. In turn, they, too, help balance him. It has been said that of the Autobot medic's, First Aid has the best bedside manner.
Strengths:
Keep Calm: First Aid is a master of keeping calm in stressful situations. That doesn’t mean that he doesn’t display his emotions, but, he never panics, no matter how bad things may seem.
Five Are Stronger than One: The Protectobots are a tightly-knit group who rely heavily upon one another. They are a constant source of safety, support, and familial love for each member, First Aid included. Plus, they must be together to form Defensor.
Speed: While not a speedster like the twins or Bumblebee, First Aid is capable of getting somewhere fast. This is necessary for emergency situations and applies specifically to his Alt.
Always Prepared: At all times, First Aid carries the equipment necessary for the successful patching of an injured bot or, in the worst case, stabilization for transport. The downside of this is that his subspace is usually almost full and there's little room for any additional material.
Steady Hands: First Aid's servos are specifically crafted for medical purposes. His digits are nimble and relatively thin for delicate work.
Weaknesses:
Non-Combatant: Though able to fight, First Aid is not a combatant. He acts mainly in a support role. If he encounters trouble, it will be necessary for him to have backup. Usually this means that he drags one of his brothers along, but if one of them is unavailable, he'll gladly take someone else.
Teamless: At the present time, First Aid is the only Protectobot on Earth. Without the full team present, Defensor cannot be formed. The absence of his brothers also puts First Aid at a disadvantage psychologically, since he’s used to them being at his back at every turn. After vorns of having them near, he feels unbalanced without them now and finds himself pining for them.
Fatal Flaw: First Aid’s loyalty and compassion could easily be used against him by someone smart enough to do so, particularly for
Abilities:
Medic: As a medic, First Aid has an invaluable skill set. Though young, he has demonstrated a distinct aptitude for medicine, ranging a wide gamut. Some have even compared him to Ratchet on occasion, though he lacks the elder’s skill and experience. Being a medic also grants him certain clearances and overrides that normal soldiers are not given.
Combiner: When with his gestalt team, First Aid is capable of joining with them to form Defensor. He serves as Defensor’s left arm. As a part of the team, he is also privy to the ‘gestalt bond’ that connects them telepathically.
Wreckers Fanboy: As a longtime fan of the Wreckers, First Aid has an inordinate number of useless factoids stored in his head. If the Wreckers were involved in something, he knows where, when, and how. He is definitely a bot to talk to if one is interested in the subject.
Weaponry:
Generic Energon Blaster: First Aid is a medic, not a full-time combatant. As such, his weapons are designed for his own defense and that of his patients. His blasters could do serious damage to light armor, minor damage to medium armor, and minimal to heavy.
Energon Scalpel: As a field medic, this blade is used primarily for surgical purposes. But, when push comes to shove and he has an opening, it can be deadly in close quarters.
Medic’s Knowledge: First Aid intimately knows the ins and outs of Cybertronian anatomy and physiology. That means, he’s attuned to all the little weak points. He’s compassionate and kind and would never want to put it to any use than to help others, but, sometimes, on the battlefield, he can’t help it. The knowledge is there and usable, whether he likes it or not.
History: (*note: this character history has been written with aspects of the IDW comics and Prime continuities in mind)
First Aid and his brothers were forged after the beginning of the war and given life by Vector Sigma. Born of the Autobots' need for a defendant, they were born the Protectobots, a gestalt team ready to defend those who need it. Fortunately, First Aid was born with a knack for healing, and he was assigned as a medic. He was trained quickly, learning his trade on the field of battle rather than in the safety of a hospital.
First Aid functioned as a part of Defensor for a long while, until his skills as a medic gained attention and he began his medical training in earnest. The Aerialbots had successfully formed Superion and it was determined that the Protectobots’ individual skills needed to be honed in order for them to be functional as bots, not just as a combiner. As such, First Aid trained under Ratchet’s supervision for a time before being shipped out to Delphi in order to study under Pharma and gain further experience in a base that saw a constant flow of patients. He served there for a short while under Pharma’s supervision before being recalled to join his gestalt team again.
First Aid, as part of Defensor, played a major role in the Exodus from Cybertron. He and his fellows protected numerous shipments of both cargo and Autobots alike before finally leaving Cybertron themselves. Their departure was a difficult one, since the Decepticons were leery of allowing the Protectobots to escape together. As such, they became separated during the Exodus. First Aid was aboard a relief shuttle, serving as a medic, when he lost contact with the others in his gestalt team. The shuttle itself was separated from the Autobot flagship, the Ark, during its flight through the space bridge and sailed into a barely-charted part of space.
As time passed, various ‘bots departed, whether alone or with others. Some were even picked up by friends and teammates. First Aid inquired after his brothers, but no one had heard from them. It wasn’t until he was the last bot aboard the ship that it drifted within range of Earth and he picked up an Autobot transmission signal. Knowing that he would do more good with whoever was out there, rather than waiting for patients that may never come, First Aid left the relief shuttle behind, taking one of the landing pods, and set off toward Earth.
Roleplay/Writing Sample:
The incessant beeping was a continuous reminder of his failure to account for gravitational pull. Red flashed light across his paint at intervals, turning him monocolored every few moments. It had already been too late when he realized he was being pulled down faster than anticipated. He was doing all he could, but, at the moment, it felt as though the shuttle’s thrusters were firing with no real chance of stopping. Maybe if an ace pilot, like one of the Aerialbots, was the one flying he’d have a better chance. But, he wasn’t a flier, he just knew the basics of piloting. Hot Spot certainly would have done better. And he could practically hear Blades growling in his audios about just how stupid he was being.
"Shut up," he found himself muttering as he flipped a number of switches, trying to stabilize his craft and stop the processor-numbing shaking, "It's not like you could fix a femoral coolant hemorrhage, Blades, so don't expect me to be the hotshot pilot."
Tense but thinking clearly, he dared to lift a hand from the controls long enough to open a channel. He was savvy enough to know it was a gamble, but he couldn’t afford to crash and potentially be damaged without contacting anyone. This was doubly true if there were Decepticons in the area- and, in his experience, there usually were Decepticons wherever there were Autobots. Hopefully, Soundwave wasn't around to intercept the Autobot frequency
“This is First Aid coming in fast. Requesting evac.”
How often had he said that last line? How often had the reply been ‘hold on’ when there was no time to do so? Would that be what happened this time? Or, worse, would this finally be the instance when the Decepticons got to him first? After all, Groove wasn't there to pull him out this time. He hoped this wasn't his last ride, and not just for his own sake. His death would devastate his brothers, and the Autobots could certainly use Defensor.
“Coordinates are as follows,” he listed them in his clipped, clinical tone, keeping his optics focused on the vis screen ahead, "Identification code transmitting."
The shuttle was uncomfortably hot now. His HUD lit up with a temperature warning. He ignored it, his medic's mind dismissing it as non-critical. He could pull through even if it got warm enough to be painful. Within the pod, atmosphere entry might get uncomfortable enough to harm some delicate wiring, but it would be superficial. His most pressing problem was his rapid entry speed.
With a resonating FWOOM, he broke through the atmosphere. A grunt betrayed his discomfort as he was pressed into his seat. The craft seemed to enter a freefall the planet's gravity pulling it down at a less jarring rate. The pod stopped rattling and First Aid immediately took the chance to fire the supporting thrusters to slow his descent. It seemed to work, since his impact into the surface was merely painful and not deadly. As it was, he snapped forward painfully, the harness the only thing keeping him in his seat. The pod rattled and screeched, kibble torn off as it plowed into the ground, leaving a deep gouge in the dirt. Warnings screeched, but all the medic could do was hold on tight and attempt to minimalize damage.
When the pod finally stopped, too dug into the earth to go any further, it settled with a cream of stressed metal and blaring of alarms. First Aid laid slumped in the harness, optics flickering as his HUD reported numerous minor injuries caused by the force of the crash.
