Characters:Grimlock, @shaneanderson Location: Woods of Crown City Content Warnings: N/A Plot Summary: While looking for Steeljaw and his Pack (and a good punching spot), Grimlock makes a new friend out in the woods.
Looking for Decepticons to capture for his Autobot friends? Fun, but you know what was even fun-er? A great place to practice those punching skills.
While it was true that there were so many trees out here that Grimlock could punch, he knew that he wasn't supposed to do that. Well.. keep it to the barest of minimums. You just couldn't help it if a Decepticon came along and he just needed a good punch to the faceplates. When you were a Dinobot in love with fighting, that tended to happen more times than not.
"Oh.. there's gotta be somethin' I can punch out here!"
Grimlock continued his wondering through the woods, hoping to find some place out there that would be able to suit his needs. There were race tracks and such, but all of those were occupied with humans, and he didn't exactly need a repeat of the humans freaking out because a big metal dinosaur wondered on in. Thank Primus the humans in the area would believe just about anything. Who knew all you had to tell them was that you were a guy in an exosuit running around on a test run?
He would keep on wondering around in his Dinobot form, occasionally looking around the area. Who knew what he would find out here?
Truth be told, he probably could have stopped and taken a breath but sometimes that pit in his stomach got the better of him. That was inevitably what got him running from the shop that he’d just pilfered out into the woods. He hadn’t even had time to put anything in his backpack, so he had dropped a few packaged sandwiches along the way, but at the very least he’d seemed to outrun the cashier? Or maybe owner more likely, he guessed with great ease.
And so he’d finally stopped to take a breath and pack up what he had. Leaving one sandwich out for him to much on as he attempted to catch his breath. Enough excitement for one day he figured, he couldn’t go back the way he came for now so he guessed a walk through the woods at the very least wouldn’t kill him.
That’s when he heard the footsteps or what he assumed were them. Ones that were so loud that it might have made him scared if not for the fact they were intriguing. Who on Earth, or rather what walked that loud? He might have guessed some sort of animal, if not for the voice that accompanied it. What was that loud and talked? Bigfoot? He almost laughed at himself for thinking that.
But all the same his curiosity was piqued and so he made up his mind to follow the footsteps. Or rather head in the general direction of them - if anything maybe would be an adventure. “Or it is Bigfoot, and he’s gonna eat me,” he scolded himself. “Ah well, what have I got to loose?”
As he got closer toward the sounds something again in the pit of his stomach that what he was in for would none the less not be normal.
Grimlock kept on wondering through the woods when he eventually began to hear noises. Huh.. Was that panting? Who would be out here and panting?
...A Decepticon on the run!
In need of punching!!
The Dinobot nearly bound with joy, excited to finally get to interact with just about anyone. If it was a Con, he was going to take them down no problem. Then he could go back to the base with the captured Decepticon (with dents in their face most likely) and Bumblebee would be super, super proud of him~! Grimlock wasted no time rushing in the direction where he had heard the panting, confused when it suddenly stopped.
"Come out, Decepticon! I got a niiiiice knuckle sandwich for yo-."
A human?! Grimlock immediately froze, just staring at the human as if he had suddenly exploded or something. He blinked his optics, completely unsure of how to react in that moment. He stayed perfectly still for a few seconds longer, and then he tried to play it off like nothing had happened at all.
"Uhhh.. I mean.. This is allllll in your head. You're dreaming~!"
In the future, years later. Shane would tell his kids and grandkids his first interaction with the Autobots had been something he played off super slick and cool. That he went up and held out his hand and greeted the giant green dinosaur warmly.
That would be the biggest blatant lie he ever told.
In truth, the second he saw a giant black and green T-Rex bounding after him, his response was an ear-piercing scream. It wasn't exactly the most graceful of responses - but if regular, everyday grown men sometimes scared you, why didn't you try not freaking out at this?
In his response, he proceeded to throw the one thing he had heavy enough to in any way make an effect. He threw his backpack, loaded with different food at the creature in some attempt at self-preservation...
Unfortunately, he was skinny, so it landed a good five inches in front of the T-Rex. Gulping loudly, he closed his eyes and turned away. "P-Please, please don't eat me! Hurt me! Whatever the heck you're here for, man! Take the food! It isn't even mine! I don't care! Just don't-."
Wait, the second time the thing... Spoke? Had it actually spoken? He recognized that voice. The one from before? Shane opened his eye once with genuine curiosity, his head tilted at the thing. It hadn't pounced on him, or tore into his body. It was just... Standing there? Telling him it was all in his head? Maybe it was right... Maybe his traumatized mind had finally snapped and now he was seeing things. But then again, why would a hallucination tell him if they were one?
"... Look, if you're going to do something to hurt me, just get it over with. Don't pretend I'm somehow stupid enough to think you're not real!" Shane shouted, actually a little insulted. "I heard you in the woods before I even saw you."
Grimlock was complete baffled by this human. He wasn't going to eat him! If anything, Grimlock was more concerned that some cat would wonder in and fry him! Cats could be cruel creatures like that. Sideswipe never lied about that sort of stuff!
"I'm not gonna eat you! See?" Grimlock took one of his fists and bopped himself in the face. "I already got a knuckle sandwich to eat." He grinned with a nervous laugh. Surely this human wasn't falling for it if he already could figure out that he wasn't a dream.
Didn't mean he couldn't try though.
"Really though, I'm not gonna hurt you. We don't hurt the humans. I mean.. I wouldn't hurt humans if I were real~." The Dinobot was still gonna try even though he knew at this point that it so wasn't working. How quickly that one backfired when the kid started yelling at him about it. He sulked a bit, poking a couple of digits together. "I didn't mean to. I'm just not supposed to let humans see me. Bumblebee's rules."
OK, that one actually made Shane chuckle. A knuckle sandwhich huh? This guy at least had a sense of humor. Even if he was a big, giant T-Rex...? Yeah that seemed about right. However, after a moment, he reeled back his rather angry approach upon quietly realizing that this creature really had no intention of hurting him. In fact it seemed... Nice? His head was still spinning with the fact he was actually standing in front of a giant metal t-rex.
"Whoa, whoa it's... It's OK. Sorry I snapped, I just... Well I mean you see a giant dinosaur and what other reaction can I have?" At the mention of this "Bumblebee", he already got a feeling this guy wasn't alone either - which he wasn't sure about whether or not was a good thing... Yet. "It's OK... I didn't mean to get you in trouble. I just... Again the eating thing. Maybe I've seen too many movies."
Shane knew he was crazy talking this way. But he did know what it was like to be yelled at and berated, and he didn't want to dish that. "Can I uh... Ask who you are? What you are? I mean besides a dinosaur? Because I am all levels of confused right now."
At least the kid had found the knuckle sandwich joke to be a little bit funny. Funny helped ease the mood when things were tense, and that was something that Grimlock felt he was good at. Next to punching, of course. Then again, now that he thought about it hadn't Russell freaked out on him when he first saw him too?
"Seen too many movies? How can ya see too many movies? I know a bunch of good ones that you should watch sometimes. Ever see Jurassic Park?" Maybe if he kept going, he could help calm the kid down. It was true though. Jurassic Park was a super good movie, and the fact that there were dinosaurs in it made it even better. Each and every time he watched, he would shout and applaud at the end with the final battle between the T-Rex and the raptors.
And then the boy asked for him to introduce himself. "Well, guess the cat's outta the bag.. which is a good thing! I don't want any cats in any bags. Cats are terrifying. But, uh.. Name's Grimlock. I'm a robot dinosaur~. Though.. you already knew that I guess." He hummed to himself. He couldn't reveal that he was an Autobot. Bumblebee would be super disappointed if he did, but then again.. the kid already knew about him. "Would you believe me if I said I were an alien robot dinosaur?"
Shane tilted his head a bit, of course the t-rex enjoyed Jurassic Park, though it was kind of amusing. He had to chuckle a little bit, since that was partially what freaked him out when he saw the t-rex coming for him. "Well, yeah! I love Jurassic Park! But after seeing that can you blame me for freaking out?" He jested rather pointedly.
Ok, that one made him snort when he said that cat's were scary. A T-Rex scared of a cat? he had to admit he felt kinda dumb being afraid of this guy a minute ago. "Oh wow! So you're an alien? That's so cool!" he then added with a smirk. "Michael Rogers is going to owe me thiry bucks if I ever see him again."
Ok maybe the human had a fair point. The T-Rex in the movie was plenty scary to a human, but to Grimlock he wished he could meet a nice, cute femme Dinobot like her~. Of course, all the ones he'd met up til this point had been male, so surely there had to be a lady Dinobot.
...Right?
He honestly hadn't expected the human to believe him when it came to the being an alien thing, and he was already wanting to tell his friends about it. While he would typically be excited to have people know about him, he knew Bumblebee would be super mad if that did happen. For once, Grimlock took the responsible action. Be proud, Bumblebee!
"Uhh... could we keep this between us? I'm not actually supposed to let humans know about me. Biiiig secret." He made a quick hushing noise, though he was pretty curious as to why someone owed him thirty deer. "What's your name, by the way? Don't think I caught it."
Shane had to admit he was a bit disappointed by that. He wanted to go run out and tell the world about it. But at the same time, he understood. He supposed that he could cause mass panic, probably a manhunt. He guessed that on that end it did make sense that "Grimlock" would want him to keep his existence on the down low.
"Don't worry, Grimlock. Your secret's safe with me!" He added. "Sorry I guess I just didn't think about it. But if it wasn't a secret I guess I'd have known before."
When Grimlock asked his name, Shane contemplated telling him. Then again, this was a giant robot dinosaur from space, so who was he gonna tell? "I'm Shane, it's nice to uh... Meet you officially without my little display there."
Dodged a bullet. Shane wasn't going to tell anyone about Grimlock, and that was definitely a good thing. Whether he could keep that promise down the road remained to be seen, but he promised! That meant he wasn't gonna break his word in Grimlock's mind.
"It's ok~. Not many robot dinosaurs around here."
And now that he officially knew Shane's name, that meant that they could hopefully be friends. Wagging his giant tail, he grinned. There wasn't much harm in bringing him back to the base now was there? "Say! You wanna come back to the base with me and meet my friends? They're not dinosaurs like me, but I think you'd like 'em. And there's a couple other humans around too!"
Shane sighed in relief a little himself at least he seemed genuinely nice. Though he definitely felt a bit nervous about this whole thing. After all, this Grimlock guy towered over him. What if he was just faking it? What if he really was... Wait, Shane had to stop himself there. He was going overboard with this stress. Why would he treat him so nice in an isolated area where he could just eat him? It just made no sense.
At the mention of a base, Shane got a little more nervous. What if these people noticed something was off about him? Sure Grimlock couldn’t tell, but.... But then he thought about it. Maybe this base had food, and somewhere he could at least lay low for a few hours. It couldn’t be so bad, could it? “Well, sure. I mean. As long as your friends won’t mind,” he managed. “Don’t want to get you into trouble.”
Grimlock was honestly confused. Why would bringing Shane to the base be a bad thing? There were other humans there, and he sorta already knew who he was. He was sure that Russell and Denny would've been fine with it. Bumblebee.. he was a maybe, but certain he'd warm up to the little guy. After all, Sari was doing fine.
"What? Never! You wouldn't be causing any trouble at all. Not that many humans around, but I'm sure the three we see a lot will like ya!"
He grinned eagerly, trying to convince the kid that everything would be fine. He was gonna be missing out on all the fun things if he didn't, but in the end Grimlock couldn't force Shane into going with him. It was all up to him.
Shane sighed in relief. Not a lot of humans around was a good thing. That meant that there was a chance none of them would have a lightbulb and question who he was. That was a plus... then there was the fact he’d be chilling with aliens. ALIENS. How many kids could say that? Probably not many, he was sure about that. Otherwise this would be all over the news, right?
So he simply smiled back at the mech. After all what was the worst that could happen?
“Alright! I’m game, where’s this base of yours anyway?” He asked eagerly. “Secret underground bunker? A giant spaceship cloaked like a building? Ohhhh or maybe it’s like some top secret government base like Area 51!”
His mind already ran wild with ideas.
