Player Alias: Jaxrond
Character Name: Marie Knight
Character Age: 23
Allegiance: Currently neutral. Eventual Autobot ally, perhaps?
Appearance Description:
Marie is tall and thin with startlingly blue eyes. She previously took martial arts before beginning college and continued working out during her time in school. This left her attractively thin and toned until too much time in the hospital caused muscle atrophy. Now, her body has the too-thin appearance of someone who has been ill for a very long time. Marie has long, dark brown hair which is wavy and worn in a side part. She enjoys dying streaks of color into it, which change quite often and depend upon whatever she is “feeling” at the time of application. She has an angular facial bone structure, which is offset by her rather soft cheeks, giving her a perpetual ‘teenage’ look. This often makes it difficult to guess her true age.
Marie’s style ranges from jeans, sneakers, and a secondhand Aripostle t-shirt to black leather to the traditional wear of whatever country she is currently visiting. She has picked up the scarf-wearing style of Europe and owns a large collection of scarves to be worn with any outfit she may choose. She has also recently taken to wearing her father’s dogtags as a reminder to be strong even in the worst of circumstances. Lately, her style has become increasingly flamboyant as she has been feeling better.
Personality:
A gregarious introvert, Marie enjoys chatting to anyone who is willing and certainly needs contact with others, however she ‘recharges’ by being alone or with only those closest to her. Her time of illness was very hard on her for this reason, as her interpersonal contact was limited. She is rather blunt in that ‘honesty is always good’ way, though she will attempt to deliver harder truths in a way that will not damage her relationship with the other person. She is a huge flirt, though she has never had a significant other before, and rarely is serious in her flirtations. When asked about her long time of ‘singleness’, she usually replies that she is simply waiting for the right partner. Marie is also known among her friends for her sense of humor. She loves to laugh, which, on occasion, gets her into trouble.
Marie can also be a bit of a geek, more prone action films and superheroes much more than chick flicks and romance. She adores music, and loves to play guitar, a skill she picked up while in Portugal. That aside, she enjoys many types of music, from loud punk or rock to 80’s classics to Broadway musicals.
Though Marie is a fun-loving and easy gong individual, she is not without her internal issues. Her time spent with her stepfather, and lack of any father figure before that, is part of the reason she has remained single for so long. Though she flirts with men, but, she never advances past that stage and into a relationship. Marie is also somewhat distrustful of people in general, something she picked up while abroad, and, even after spending over a year back in the US, is constantly watchful of those around her. She is kind and friendly to nearly everyone, but true friendships are hard in coming. She has also been known to have a rather frightening temper, though, she is so slow to anger that it is rarely seen
Strengths:
Physical: Marie achieved a second degree black belt while in martial arts and has retained many of those skills, though they are certainly rusty.
Mental: She is a highly observant person and has a developed sense of when a situation could turn unfavorable and should be avoided. Her fun-loving personality tends to endear her to others, something she is aware of. Due to this, she can be rather smooth-talking when she wants to be.
Will: Marie is an exceedingly strong-willed individual. Part of this is due to her training, the rest due to her personality.
Weaknesses:
Physical: Marie has yet to fully physically recover from the effects of her illness, despite it no longer being in her system. As such, she is prone to bouts of fatigue and is unable to be as physically active as she was previously. Her months spent without proper physical exercise have also caused her to lose the strength she once was able to put into her martial arts.
Mental: Marie can be rather distrusting of people, which limits her from deep interpersonal relationships. Her friendliness, though genuine, is surface-level, and acts as the shield between her and the rest of the world.
Abilities:
Marie is skilled in playing guitar, picking up, tutoring, and translating languages, navigating social realms, and cooking.
Extra Info: Marie does not own a car. She uses her father’s motorcycle, which was put into storage at the time of his death. Though it needed tuning up at first and is an older model, it works perfectly in getting her where she needs to go.
Weaponry:
Marie can use, though not at a mastery level, the bo staff, nunchucks, kama, and katana. At present, she owns a set of each.
History:
Marie is the oldest of two girls and grew up in a town not too far from Jasper, Nevada. She and her younger sister were raised for a time by their single mother after their father, a military man, was listed as killed in action. Marie is the only sister old enough to remember receiving the news. For a long time, her mother remained single, working hard as a nurse to support her girls. Then, when Marie was in high school, she remarried. To anyone on the outside, the new husband was a perfect gentleman. However, the girls quickly discovered that he was verbally abusive whenever he lost his temper, and the uncertainty of never knowing what side of their stepfather they would interact with each day caused a great deal of instability. Both sisters spent a great deal of time outside the house to keep away from him. As both were taking martial arts through a work-to-train program offered by their sensei, this was not difficult. Marie took up a part-time job on the evenings not spent at the dojo.
When Marie graduated from high school, she was already set on traveling the world. She had been accepted to a school with a foreign exchange program and spent four years studying abroad through this program. She spent each semester in a different country and, as such, has been to France, Germany, Japan, China, Finland, Italy, Portugal, and, most recently, Bolivia. During her travels and through her studies, she became fluent in German, Spanish, French, and Italian. She picked up a good deal of the languages of the other countries she studied in, but is still working towards fluency. Over her summer breaks back home, Marie spent a good deal of time with her sister and, when the younger graduated, assisted her in moving to attend college away from home.
It was during her final semester, in Bolivia, that Marie became ill. Shortly before her return home, she contracted tuberculosis, which remained latent at first, keeping her unaware of the illness. It was not until after a number of weeks of being back in the United States that she began to show symptoms. At first, she was unconcerned and thought that perhaps she had picked up a flu of some sort. However, as her symptoms worsened, she became concerned and sought medical assistance. Fortunately, at the time, she was living alone in an apartment in her hometown and doing translation work online, which kept the virus from spreading. Though the illness was treatable, it still wreaked havoc on her body. She rapidly lost weight, even while undergoing treatment, and was unable to keep up with her normal exercise due to lack of energy. During this time, her mother gifted her with her father’s dogtags, which Marie clung to as she fought the illness. It was only recently that Marie made a full recovery from her tuberculosis. She has begun working as a part-time language tutor at different high schools within driving distance of her hometown, taking advantage of her ability to again be in public without worry.
