Player Alias:
Kavac
Character Name:
Jetfire
Allegiance:
Autobots
Appearance Description:
A native of Vos, Jetfire boasts a frame larger than most of his Autobot brothers and sisters, save for perhaps other Seekers. His body is characterized by distinctly Autobot colors, being red and white with a single stripe of blue. Despite originally being not intended for work outside of a lab, Jetfire is well built enough to handle the strains of a battlefield, a trait that has served him well in life. Unusually for Seekers however, Jetfire prefers to have his wings pressed neatly behind himself while not transformed, believing that keeping them neat and close to the body is conducive for an accident-free science lab. Although with enough emotional pressure, Jetfire's wings will flare up much like his temper.
Personality:
While not as cold and emotionless as other notable Cybertronian scientists, Jetfire still fancies himself the analytical type; or perhaps maybe he'd like to be more emotionless to focus himself on his work. At his core Jetfire is passionate and idealistic about a great many things, especially his work and politics. He is very aware of said fact however, but has forgone going to the same lengths that someone like Perceptor had to negate it. Jetfire rarely engages in the same jovial behavior that his comrades sometimes like to, preferring to treat every situation with a serious and calculated mindset. While he may have worked in a laboratory for a significant portion of his operational life, Jetfire is far from antisocial, although he may put a dampener on any fun being had.
Strengths + Weaknesses:
+Morality - Jetfire's moral compass is straighter than a length of carbon nanofiber tubing, although it's led him into some strange situations throughout his life. A younger Jetfire once believed that the Cybertronian high council was corrupt enough to warrant joining the Decepticon ranks to institute social change, although he later came to regret his first choice of allegiance. Now much wiser, he doesn't see the same gray area in situations of great importance, although he acknowledges that sometimes gray-area decisions have to be made.
+Sky Captain - While he's an incredibly gifted flier in his own right, Jetfire also shines behind the controls of a starship. More than a few harrowing Autobot escapes have been carried out by the Seeker's steady hands behind the controls, although requests to not cut it so close next time were plentiful.
+Leadership - Surprisingly, Jetfire sports an uncanny knack for leadership. His strategic and analytical thinking has led him to identify critical flaws in both his enemies and allies, which he uses as a collective advantage. During the war on Cybertron, Jetfire took command of both the Aerialbots and Technobots on two separate occasions, and briefly took up an advisory role in Ultra Magnus's Wreckers. Optimus has come to rely on Jetfire enough to grant him a Sub-Commander's rank in the Autobots, placing him in the same tier as Ultra Magnus.
+Knowledge is Key - There is no deadlier weapon at Jetfire's disposal than his mind, sharp as ever. His teacher Ratchet instilled in him a thirst for knowledge and scientific discovery that holds up to this day. Responsible for technological advances in aerodynamic combat and Cybertronian combination techniques, Jetfire has proven his mind as a major strategic asset to the Autobots.
-Atychiphobic - Jetfire's most critical flaw is his deeply rooted fear of failure. The mere idea that his research could end up at a disgraceful dead-end keeps him up long in the night, diligently working at a sometimes nonexistent solution.
-Self-Depreciation - Less visible than his fear of failure, Jetfire's tendency to undersell his actions can sometimes be detrimental. When praised for his actions, particularly those on the battlefield, he will simply pass it off as doing his duty to the Autobots. Anything further than that will prompt Jetfire to begin pointing out his flaws, whether or not they even contributed at all.
Abilities:
Flight - Even among the few Autobot Seekers Jetfire's abilities were unrivaled, and was even lauded as the fastest Autobot on Cybertron during the war. To this day he continues to fly circles around his opposites in the Decepticons, and the danger he presents is only magnified when commanding a squadron of other Seekers. In addition, Jetfire has modified himself with a set of scramjets, enabling him to drastically increase his flight speed if needed.
Combiner - After the war between the Autobots and Decepticons left Cybertron, Jetfire turned his focus to improving the methods by which his allies could combine with one another. True as any gifted scientist, he tested many of his early discoveries on himself, with mixed results. Recently however, the Autobot scientist appears to have had a major breakthrough in powerlinking. Although the technique has yet to be perfected, Jetfire is able to combine himself with other Autobots, provided the second party has undergone the proper procedure that enables their body to withstand it.
Weaponry:
Double-barreled Fusion Cannon - A heavy duty fusion rifle serves as Jetfire's main weapon, capable of punching through enemy defenses with ease.
Isokinetic Burst Missiles - A type of missile developed by Autobot engineers, Jetfire's burst missiles are capable of dispersing an impressive amount of ordinance over a wide area. Each missile is capable of being remote detonated at the user's discretion, and are equally effective against air and ground targets.
Gluon Beams - A set of two powerful twin-beam emitters on each arm represent Jetfire's backup armament. While in jet mode, these beam cannons represent the Seeker's primary offensive option. Their range and power serves their user well in aerial engagements, although Jetfire's fusion cannon is more suited for land engagements.
Rocket Hammer - Surgical precision on the battlefield can be someone else's specialty. As for Jetfire, it's essential that he use his size and power to take the shortest path from himself to victory. To this end, his melee weapon of choice remains his faithful rocket hammer.
History:
Rising to prominence as a seeker/scientist in an era dominated by functionism, Jetfire hailed from Vos on Cybertron. Despite being initially taught by the eventual Autobot Ratchet, Jetfire's attempts at separating his alt mode from his profession led him to join the anti-functionist Decepticons. The Vosian was particularly inspired by the speech Orion Pax delivered to the council on their corrupt policies, but was disgusted at Pax's decision to remain under the council's authority. The first meeting between Jetfire and Pax began in a fistfight over conflicting ideologies, but was quickly broken up by several other future-Autobots, such as Prowl and even Jetfire's own mentor Ratchet. Jetfire found contempt in Pax's condemning words towards the Decepticon's use of violence to achieve their goals, citing that in doing so he turned a blind eye to the Autobots' own flaws.
As time passed, Jetfire began to see things more and more like Orion Pax, although he still passionately debated that not everything the Decepticons stood for was rooted in evil intentions. After Vos was bombed by a photon missile launched by the Decepticon second in command Starscream, Jetfire joined Optimus Prime in his call to rally all Autobots to arms against their enemies. While many Vosians perished in the attack, several prominent survivors including the Aerialbots joined the Autobots, with Jetfire briefly commanding them. Always outnumbered by Decepticon airpower, the Autobot Seekers employed hit and fade, area denial, and sneak attacks against their enemies to great effectiveness. After witnessing his comrades' combination into the mighty warrior Superion, Jetfire was struck by a stroke of genius. He briefly took leave of the Aerialbots to work alongside such notable Autobot scientists like Perceptor, Ratchet, and the Technobots to develop technological advances to use against the Decepticons; Jetfire found his area of expertise to be aerodynamics and combinations. While not as medically inclined as his mentor, or emotionless as Perceptor, the Seeker found himself to be a reasonable middle ground between the two.
As the time to depart Cybertron in the Ark, Jetfire was one of the few Autobot seekers to survive the battle, with most of the Aerialbots winding up destroyed or stranded on the planet. Jetfire himself survived and managed to reach the vessel before it left Cybertron for good. During the sojourn from their homeworld the Autobots made several key stops to some of Cybertron's former colonies, including Velocitron, Gigantion, and Junkion. As the Ark passed the planet Nebulos with critical fuel reserves, Jetfire elected to take a small force of Seekers out of the vessel to draw off their Decepticon pursuers, which Optimus allowed under the pretense that they would evade capture and find a way to rejoin their friends later. Their distraction was successful in the end, although Jetfire found himself wounded during the battle and forced to crash on Nebulos. Over the next few millenia Jetfire and his Autobot survivors were caught up in a small war between an entirely different group of Autobots and Decepticons, led by Fortress Maximus and Scorponok, respectively.
After Nebulos was rediscovered by a newly rebuilt Cybertron, Jetfire rejoined the Autobots under Optimus's direct command. Jetfire's only compunction over the past thousand years was just how long it had taken him to get back to Prime.
