Characters: Autobots; Open Location: just outside Jasper Content Warnings: mild cursing Plot Summary: After fighting his way across the universe following the Autobot's trail, Sidewsipe finally makes landfall on Earth. Things don't go exactly how he planned them.
He'd been simply overjoyed to hear the transmission from the third planet of this system. Optimus Prime was alive, the Autobots had made their stand on a planet called Earth. Where Prime was then there were some mechs he knew couldn't be far. Some of those he actually liked. And with any luck Ratchet the Hatchet would be there as well. Of all the medics it was Ratchet Sideswipe preferred to put him back together again. And if both those mechs were there, then maybe Sunstreaker would be as well. His spark pained him. They'd been away from each other for so long. He missed his sour, foul tempered twin. Who'd been looking out for him while he was gone, he wondered? Who'd kept him on an even keel, helped to keep his temper in check so he didn't get into too much trouble? Had anyone even bothered trying while he wasn't around? He knew one thing for certain, the second he found his yellow sibling he was going to punch him in the face and then hug him. And then life could go back to the way it was supposed to be.
They'd be able to watch each others afts on the battlefield, work as the unit they'd been for eons while this war raged on. He'd have his Jet Judo buddy again, and the world would move on. He never felt quite right when he didn't know where Sunny was, and it had always been that way. They could certainly be apart, there was nothing that said they couldn't, they'd just always preferred to be together. And why not? Sunstreaker was the only family he had left, the only family he'd ever really had. They'd been through everything together, so it only made sense that he'd want to be reunited with him.
The red mech vented and shifted his pod to enter the atmosphere of the little planet called Earth. That was when things started going wrong. The pod clipped some sort of satellite on the way in, which knocked off his entry trajectory. Which meant he no longer had his exact coordinates and wouldn't until he hit the ground. The pod skirted the planet's surface as instead of just hitting it, which meant he was left rolling around inside of it even strapped into the seat as he was. Then it got hit by a fragging train! Which splintered it open and sent Sideswipe helm over aft through the air to smack into an electrical pole, which shorted his systems as the lines fell down on him. It took him over an hour to recover, and by then he couldn't help but laugh at himself. This day felt like a series of well timed pranks! Like Primus himself was playing a prank on him for all his antics over the eons. And it was perfect!
He finally accessed the 'internet' and got himself situated before transmitting out. "This is Autobot Sideswipe reporting in. Yo, Autobots! Someone want to come and get me out here? And I know you guys are here, I heard the broadcast. I will keep making a nuisance in....Jasper? Really is that was this little mud-ball location is called? Well I'll start poking at the locals if someone doesn't answer me."
Dylan definitely hadn’t expected that coming out of school.
But to say he was a little excited was an understatement. He’d never gotten to greet an Autobot before, but he was definitely doing this. As long as it was an Autobot. Ever since he’d started full on living with the Autobots he’d sworn to help them out, and if that meant once in a while he did this, well he just hoped the ones he met were friendly.
He’d gotten on his skateboard and started off in ernest. He’d gotten a small, handheld comm link of his own which he’d put on almost instantly when he was out of the range of other humans. For a while he didn’t get anything, but about halfway to where he surmised it might have crashed he got Sideswipe’s message.
Wait, Sideswipe? Wasn’t he with Bee? What the heck was going on?
Well his comment on nuisance making certainly gave the vibes of what he’d heard so far. He wondered if he could connect back and answer the transmission? It was worth a try given he was still super new to this at least. “Uhhhh, Sideswipe? Can you give me an idea of where you landed? Scenery maybe? Jasper is pretty small but the desert is big,” he stated still heading the way he was. “Not even sure I can get to your comm frequency from this end so if you can hear me hollar!”
Sunstreaker had been meandering through the control room wen the monitor pinged, having picked up a new Autobot headed for Earth. He'd paused, blue optics focused on the speck of light moving toward the Earth's surface on the screen. Who was it? No one immediately identifiable, apparently. Even as the 'bot came within range, no identifiers made themselves known. He folded his arms over his chassis, silently observing.
He couldn't help the prickle of hope in his chest. It came without his consent, the desire that this pod would carry his brother. Primus only knew how much he missed him. Nothing was right without Sideswipe there. Something was missing, and everything seemed...dimmer than normal.
The pod made landing. He watched a moment more before starting to turn away. Someone else would bring the newcomer in. The likelihood that it was his brother was-
"This is Autobot Sideswipe reporting in."
He froze as the comm came through, not hearing anymore of the transmission. Sideswipe. It was Sideswipe. His optics were wide as he whipped back around to stare at the location on the map. So close! So very close! Jasper!
There was no conscious thought as he transformed and went barreling out of the base at top speed, leaving tire tracks on the floor of the control room. He threw open his comm, not even registering the new voice that replied to his brother, not caring that he was on open frequency. Sideswipe. His twin! At last! ::Stay the frag where you are, I'm coming.::
It was short, his voice strangled. It was all he could manage. He was the colder of the two, but, at the moment, his spark was flooded with such a mixture of elation, anger, worry, and a plethora of other emotions that he couldn't think. He was amazed he'd been able to say anything.
The golden car left a dust cloud in his wake as he sped through the desert, the coordinates from the monitor locked in his processor.
He didn't recognize the voice that called to him first, though pegged it to possibly be Bumblebee. It would make sense if his voice had to change after being so badly damaged for so long. This planet made Bee say weird things. He snickered at the very hick commentary. ::Dude, I got hit by a train when I came down. The pod's smashed across half the county. And really, who am I even talking to? Bee, is this you? Cause if it is, lemme tell you-::
He cut off when a voice he never thought he'd hear again rolled through the comm. His spark seized, and then adjusted as he strained to sense his twin. Holy Primus. Sunstreaker!
A goofy grin broke across his features and he switched his frequencies, going to one he used exclusively with his brother. ::SUNSTREAKER! Man am I glad to hear your voice!:: He paused and took a deep breath, venting his systems again. This planet was fragging hot! ::Where the frag have you been?! I've been looking all over creation for you!:: He concentrated again, but they were still too far to really pick each other up. That wouldn't take long to fix, if the other was coming to meet him.
He switched back to open comms. ::Not going anywhere for now. Sunny's on his way out, and man let me tell you, these power lines are evil! I think I might have shorted out my navigation or something 'cause the world looks really funny right now.::
This was pretty funny given he was pretty much mistaking him for Bee. This Bot must have really hit his head hard. He almost wanted to screw with him, but at the same time he had to keep serious. He was basically an ambassador of his species in his own way. He had to present them as something that was not.. Baffin-ish?
“No this isn’t Bee, but he and I are good friends.” Dylan explained as he moved past the edge of town and tried to think of what direction the pod probably fell. “At least I got this thing to work. I’m really new to this whole thing - I mean not the Autobots thing - but uh. Look this is my first time even on a comm frequency so... Uh let’s just stick with the fact my name’s Dylan.”
God, stop sounding like an amateur Logan! Focus! “Look I think I’ve got an idea of where you probably crashed so I’m on my way. But I’m feeling really confused right now,” he explained. “From what everyone told me I thought you were in Crown City. Or maybe I’m totally trippin’, but either way I’m hoping you can clear up what’s going on when I’m there. Since the others will have questions too.”
Sunstreaker would have genuinely smiled had he been in his root mode. He skidded through a turn on one of the desert roads, zipping toward Jasper. So close! He'd considered going to the Crown City base with a few others, but, he was glad he'd remained at the Omega Outpost, now.
::The feeling's mutual,:: he didn't bother to disguise the sheer relief in his tone, ::And I could say the same. I crash landed here looking for you.::
He made an audible sound as he felt their bond shift back into full focus again as he drew nearer, like someone stepping into their home after a long journey might. He could sense him, now, across the last few miles. If he hadn't already been driving at top speed, he would have picked up his pace.
::I'm almost there,:: a completely unnecessary statement, as Sideswipe would be able to sense him now. But, he couldn't help it. He needed to speak the assurance.
The last miles passed in a blur of anticipation. Then, he was speeding into view, not caring that they were near a human settlement. He saw his brother, the familiar figure he knew as well as he knew his own coding, and all he knew was that he had to reach him. Without slowing down, the gold Lamborghini jerked into a sideways skid, and Sunstreaker transformed on the move. Plating slid and separated as he took his bipedal form, using the momentum from the skid to come up running.
"Sideswipe!" any outside listener would have a difficult time discerning if the frontliner was angry or glad. In truth, he was absolutely, ecstatically overwhelmed, "You pain in the aft!"
He wasn't slowing, prepared to clash with his brother at full force and bear him to the ground.
Sideswipe snorted, leaning against one of the larger pieces of wreckage from the pod. Well, he always did like to make an entrance. But that had been a bit excessive, and he was painfully aware that the train could have ended him if the pod hadn't been mobile. It took him a moment to realize he wasn't talking to Bee even as the individual on the other side of the line confirmed it.
Dylan was not a Cybertronian name he'd ever heard, so maybe this was one of the locals? An organic liaison or something? Possible. ::Well, any friend of Bee's is good people in my book. And where in the Pit is Crown City? I just got to this dusty little planet, so whoever they thought was in Crown City, he wasn't me.:: He paused at the call back from Sunstreaker and gave a grin. ::Have to get back to you, Sunstreaker's nearly here.::
The bond snapped back into place finally and it made the red mech shake all over. It never felt good having that bond fade, and having it back was always like he'd located a missing piece of himself. Which he had. He didn't bother responding on the comm again, waiting the last little bit as a yellow blur came into view. He knew he looked pretty bad, dinged up and not at his best. But he was in one piece, they were together again, and that was all that really mattered.
Elation hit him about then, elation and fear and a bit of rage too. "Where have you been!" He returned at the call from his twin, pushing himself unsteadily to a full standing position as the other bore down on him. He stood his ground, let Sunstreaker get almost on top of him, then splayed his pedes and his arms and pretty much caught the other across the bulk of his frame. He still ended up on the ground in a tangle of limbs, but at least he'd tried. He'd deck him later, when his spark wasn't pulsing in the simple, overwhelmed sort of joy at seeing his twin again.
He took the weight of his sibling for a moment then decked him and pushed to get back up. "You scared me to death Sunny! Where did you go?" This close he was sure his spark was saying all sorts of things. Sometimes, when they were both just raw inside, things slipped over. Not images, nothing that extreme, but a sense of things. And Sideswipe had been alone for a very long time, and he'd been fighting alone for all of that time. He absolutely hated being alone! He looked like hell and wasn't even sure how he'd survived, other than the stubborn determination to be back with his twin.
He shook again before drawing back close and choosing to hug the other mech. "Fuss at me later." Referring to the mess he was likely making of the others paint job ranging between brawling with him and just wanting to be close. "You are getting a hug, and you can't stop me." He grumbled it, feeling all the fight leaving him as exhaustion and relief rolled through his spark. "Finally found you."
For a moment his other conversation was on hold, just while he let himself simply enjoy being back with Sunstreaker. Family had to stick together, and they were literally two parts of a whole. They did best when they could work together, even when they didn't admit to it.
Sunstreaker crashed into Sideswipe's arms without pause, rolling with him on the ground in a bout of tussling born of worry mixed with concern. Had Sideswipe been the one to initiate this under normal circumstances, the golden bot would have been a hissing, spitting mess. Now, though, that didn't matter. He was happy.
"Where have I been? Where have you been, you slagger?"
He expected the punch to the helm. Of course he did. His tackle maneuver had been his own version of it. They were frontliners, former gladiators, and, more than that, twins. When they were pissed they hit each other to express it. That was how it went.
"I went looking for you!" he replied, letting himself be pushed up, "Then Prime sent that call and I figured you'd follow it too, so I came here."
His spark was all but singing, completely at odds with his usually standoffish nature. It responded to its twin's pulsing and spoke in return, relieved to be reconnected after such a long time. Sunstreaker's pining for his brother had been the cause of most of his anger recently. He'd been even less pleasant to be around than normal. And when he'd been off on his own, truly alone? There was a trail of genericons to prove just what happened when they ran into a lone Terror Twin.
His blue optics roved over his twin's frame and he frowned deeply.
"You look like slag," he said bluntly, all too ready to drag him back to base and get him in top shape again.
Then he was being hugged and essentially told to shut up. He scowled half-heartedly. Normally, he would despise being hugged. Metal on metal made the worst scratches, pains in the aft to buff out. After a long moment, he returned the hug, wrapping his arms tightly around his brother. It was a testament to just how lonely he had been without him.
"Missed you," he muttered, holding him tightly, the unspoken addendum of 'nothing's right without you' all too prominently hanging between them.
"Don't think you're getting away with looking like that, even if I did, though. We're fixing you up as soon as we get back to base...Hatchet's there, by the way."
"Fighting my way across space trying to find you." His tone was a little subdued, his energy levels were pretty close to bottomed out. But he was back with his twin so everything else was secondary. It had taken so much from him just to fight with his brother for those few minutes they'd tussled, and now he was getting some error messages across his vision telling him he needed to refuel and recharge very soon.
Sideswipe let himself idle, his spark trying its best to stabilize them, to find a balance between them when they'd been apart for so long. It did not help at all that he tended to drop all pretense of civility when he didn't have to keep Sunny on an even keel. He'd reverted to the place he'd been in the rings, to just fighting and plowing straight through his enemies without stopping. He didn't even care that he was damaged, that he had run out of energon weeks ago. Nothing mattered but reaching this place and his greatest chance of finding his brother. Which he had. That reaction, he'd discovered, what how he did his own version of pining, he locked himself away where nothing could reach him.
He had to refresh his optics the next time Sunstreaker spoke, actually almost missing what he said entirely. "I love you too bro." He deadpanned it, then shifted again and actually butted his helm against his twin's.
"Missed you too." Had he already said so? He couldn't remember right now. And he knew things weren't right apart, he knew they needed to never let this happen again. If he hadn't found Sunstreaker here, he'd seriously been considering giving up. There was only so long one half of the same spark could exist alone. Not something he'd tell his brother. It hadn't happened, he'd be fine in a few weeks.
Mention of the medic that they generally made mayhem against gave him first a moment to contemplate, and then for a grin to break across his face. "He's going to hit the ceiling when he sees me. Now he gets to deal with both of us."
Sunstreaker felt off-kilter and yet anchored all at once. Their bond was still struggling to right itself, but, Sideswipe was here. That was all that mattered. His grip on him tightened as his brother butted his helm against his.
"Sorry...love you," he muttered.
Sideswipe was the only person he would ever apologize to like this. And the only person he would say those words to. 'Love' was the only word that could be used to describe the emotion flowing across their bond. They were never doing this again. It had been absolute agony, the uncertainty, the fear that, one day, the bond would just...snap. His run in with Spacewarp had made him especially fearful of this occurrence. But it had never happened, thankfully. His own spark had suffered from the incompleteness...but they were together now.
"You're not leaving my sight for the next three vorns...at least," Sunstreaker groused, shifting his focus away from introspection.
He stepped back just slightly, breaking the embrace but still well within the bounds of personal space. Upon seeing his brother's grin, he allowed a smirk.
"We'll have to make sure to pay him a few visits. Wouldn't want him to get lonely, cooped up in his medbay."
Again, his optics swept over Sideswipe, taking in his damaged form. His smirk slipped and he pursed his lip components.
"Can you transform? We need to get you repaired. As soon as possible."
He felt the grin fall off his face as he watched his brother, eventually just reaching out to pat him on the shoulder. "I'm okay." He didn't expect anyone to really understand the way he and Sunny were, especially to each other. It was different, being part of a twin pair. You felt things different, at least with your twin. The threat of not letting him out of his sight for awhile was met with one of Sideswipe's rare true smiles.
He was one of those mechs that could joke and laugh and smile, but it was usually fake. He liked the attention, but the only one that he really valued the opinion of was Sunstreaker. "You'll be tired of me before then." He was teasing him about it, but he knew he was wrong. If anything, their habit of being around each other would last until one or both of them got frustrated with the others normal attitude and just left it for a few days. Or they got into a fist fight. Those would also sometimes make them avoid each other a few days. It was a cycle, but one they weren't likely to fall into for some time. At least not until their sparks found balance again and they weren't both severely off kilter.
Once the other moved back from him he actually swayed on his pedes, planting them further apart to keep from ending up on his face on the ground. He wanted to make a quip about Ratchet, but nothing came out. Instead, after the look over from Sunstreaker, he just nodded. "Can, yeah. Might be stuck once I get there though. I haven't had any energon in awhile."
The time for being stuck in his own thoughts was over. They were back together, everything would be fine. Now, he just had to get back to wherever base was. "Lead the way Sunny." He forced a flash of his devil-may-care grin and folded down into his new altmode, which was still flashy even dinged up and damaged as it was.
Who knew that Sideswipe would be so far out? It felt like he had been skateboarding for about a good amount of time now. And finally he’d just honestly given up, kicked his board up and started to walk. Hopefully he’d run into him and he’d give him a ride to base but if not at least he had his comm and could just call for a Groud Bridge.
He kept his hand up in front of his face to block the sun. Keeping his eyes narrowed as he tried to make out any possible figure or figures in the distance. He sighed, so far he saw nothing - but he wasn’t giving up yet at least. Even if it didn’t help that he’d probably missed his opportunity to be the first to greet him at this point.
Wait... There were two giants in the distance. God he hoped that those weren’t a mirage. He fumbled with his comm a bit and decided to talk into it as he waved. “Hey! Is that you over there?” He questioned. “I think I finally found you!”
Sunstreaker scoffed, even as he returned Sideswipe's smile, his even less pronounced than his twin's. Sunstreaker didn't smile. He smirked, and it was usually a bad thing. As for him getting sick of his bother... They both knew that wasn't true. Sometimes they fought or needed space, but, most of the time, they stuck close together.
His good mood faded as soon as he saw what kind of shape Sideswipe was really in. He was barely standing.
"Do you need some of mine?"
It was completely natural of him to offer. Sharing energon with his brother, even is innermost, was something he would do without a second thought. His twin needed energon? He was welcome to it. Of course, base wasn't that far off, and he could call for a ground bridge if Sideswipe struggled too much.
He watched his brother's transformation with a critical eye before transforming himself, folding down into the shiny gold Lamborghini he had chosen as his Earth alt. mode.
::Don't call me that,:: the quip lacked any bite, and was said almost as a force of habit, something he had said a million times and that his twin never listened to, ::And stay close.::
They were a pair of Autobots in plain view. He didn't want to deal with the threat of 'cons, especially when Sideswipe was this banged up. Though, if they did swing by...Sunstreaker would make sure they regretted it.
He had just started rolling when the comm opened again. His optic would have twitched if he'd been in bipedal mode. Damn. He recognized the voice as that of the human he'd heard was staying at the base. Some nonsense about Pharma adopting him as his own sparkling? He considered just leaving him...but that would mean dealing with Pharma and Ratchet, which he wasn't in the mood for. He gave a full body shudder, alt mode shaking. The little cretin was going to want a ride...and he wasn't getting in Sideswipe when he was as banged up as he was. That meant.
An organic inside him.
He almost had another visceral reaction. ::This is Sunstreaker. Stay there, squishy.::
"No." Under most circumstances he wouldn't have refused. They shared their energon stores all the time, especially on the field. This was a bit different. "I'll make it back to base." His wheels sunk a little towards the ground, feeling agitated. "I'm in no shape to fight Sunny. So keep yours, in case we run into some 'cons looking for trouble." He grinned internally at that.
Trouble wasn't what they'd find, if Sideswipe couldn't fight at his brother's side. Destruction on a massive scale was the more accurate word. Sunstreaker was a force of nature. It killed him that he was unable to even defend himself, but after the trip and constant fighting to just get here and his lack of energon himself, he didn't have to be a medic to know that wouldn't end well. And if one of the 'cons got after him like this...he didn't want to think about it. He'd fight back, of course, but it wouldn't be near his best.
He was knocked back from his thoughts at his first sight of his twin's new altmode. A low whistle left his frame despite everything. "Nice bro." It wasn't what he'd been going to say, but it was what he ended up saying. And then the comms went off, the voice of the organic he'd spoken to earlier.
::Oh hey Dylan! Sorry man, got distracted for awhile there.:: He was chipper on the line but it was all a show. He was doing what Sunny had told him to do, staying close. He noticed his sibling shudder and wondered on it, then caught the train of thought and shuddered too.
::I'll do it. I'm already all dirty, a little organic in there won't make a difference at this point.:: Banged up or not, he would do anything for Sunstreaker. ::Hold tight little squishy, we'll pick you up. Just try not to touch Sunstreaker. He won't appreciate it, and you'll live longer.::
