Characters: Bumblebee, Open to Autobots/Allies Location: Omega Outpost-1, Rec Room Content Warnings: Mentioned minor violence Plot Summary: A couple weeks after street racing, Bumblebee's slip in composure comes to bite him in the aft.
After his attempts of getting more members on his team back in Crown City, with only some minor change, Bumblebee had decided to return to the base in Nevada. Things in Crown City were in a lull and quiet, so he had decided he needed something to do other than walking about the scrapyard for the tenth time in a row. Quite frankly, he was fairly bored and needed a change of scenery once more. Luckily, the main Autobot base was always busy, always having some form of activity that eased the edginess he felt when no new fugitives had cropped up as of late.
Bee had been in Nevada for a few hours, having come to sit in the rec room with a cube of energon and just looking through some of the social media involving the illegal races or just videos. But he came across one video that had been spreading for a little while now, one that made him spit out the sip of energon he had been drinking, optics widening slightly.
'Nononono! This can't be happening!' Bumblebee's spark pulse quickened slightly, watching a record of his holoform storming up to Vince, his insult being heard clearly of calling Vince a rather derogatory Earth term before giving him a mean left hook. It didn't help the video was on a loop either. Over and over, the yellow and black mech watched his slip in composure and harming a human, one of the top rules they were suppose to follow when they were there on Earth. For once however, Bumblebee had broken one of those golden rules, had allowed his anger over Vince's continued bullying of their human allies get the better of him.
Door wings twitching in distress and leaning forward slightly, Bumblebee swiped through a few pages, finding the video had spread a fair bit. He even found one from a different angle, from behind his vehicle form. "Frag it, one time I need Raf and he's not here." Bumblebee muttered to himself, his anxiety beginning to creep up once more.
It was certainly a change... Being around so many Autobots and not just his dad but it was interesting. But honestly he didn’t feel awkward, he felt right at home. More people that understood him and didn’t just look at him weird... Sure there were more humans like him, so there was more awkwardness too. But he lived on Earth, and he was a human, the day was bound to come where this would happen. So he was going to also take this as the chance to get to know the part of himself he no longer remembered - he human side.
Starting with updating his lingo. Which wasn’t easy, the list of “Cool Earth Lingo” on his tablet just was... Weird.
“Sup?” “Dawg?” What the pit was this stuff? Did humans actually talk like this? And they thought he sounded weird!
He stepped into the rec room and peered up. He noticed Bumblebee almost right away - and his eyes grew wide. Having grown up on Bluestreaks war stories - of course he knew Bumblebee. The mech was... Well to him he was an utter badaft. Literally being in his presence in that open turned him into a little kid to him. “Oh... My... PRIMUS...” he finally spoke, nearly dropping his tablet. “Y... You’re Bumblebee! THE Bumblebee... Holy slag, you are Bumblebee right?” He exclaimed. “Oh man. Of course you are, you’re just like I pictured! Wow, I never thought I’d run into someone like you here! I mean, I figured maybe Optimus since he runs the place - but wow!”
He paused, realizing the mech would probably be confused by now. “Oh uh... Sorry, name’s Jetblaze. But everyone calls me Jet mostly...”
Bumblebee jumped somewhat at Jet's excited statement, causing the muscle car to drop his data pad. The exclamation made him initially worried one of the others had indeed seen what was going around the social media sights, his spark racing for a few tense moments, causing him to whip around in his seat. His optics at first were met by nothing and for a moment he thought he imagined it.
Until the one he had spoken kept talking, causing Bumblebee to stand to find the voice belonged to a human, one he wasn't familiar with. And indeed, saying Bumblebee was confused was putting it rather mildly-he was beyond confused. Here before him was an adult human speaking in Cybertronian lingo rather than Earth based words, and talking...a lot. And somehow, Jet knew who he was. So not only was Bee confused, he was downright amazed any adult humans knew who he was aside from Denny Clay and Fowler. There were so many questions running through his processor now he forgot about his data pad for the time being.
"It's nice to meet you Jetblaze, I think." Bumblebee was polite but it was clear he didn't know how to react to this. "I...have a lot of questions right now. But I don't even know where to start." Bumblebee said with amazement, just staring at Jet with wide optics.
Jet was confused by his reaction for only a minute.
Of course he sometimes had to remind himself that here it wasn’t typical for him to speak the way he did. They all knew humans as having their own lingo and way of life. Jet was more so in tuned with Autobots and therefore was very strange as an individual. He felt his face flush as he felt like a bit of an idiot but at the same time told himself just to learn from this. “Oh... I’m sorry, I uh... I forget sometimes you guys aren’t used to humans like me.” He explained.
He finally managed a smile and then added. “I uh... I’m not from around here. I was raised on the road by an Autobot you uh... Know but I’m trying to keep on the down low and all. I don’t know, it’s a long story. I don’t remember much about it,” he explained honestly, rubbing the back of his neck. “My sire says I was only like five, maybe a little younger... Don’t know what happened to my actual creators. Just that I was with him as long as I can remember. Well, until now...”
He kinda gave a smirk this time as he continued on. “I uh, sort of ran away to join the army. I’ve wanted to since I was a sparkling but sire didn’t want me involved. I uh... I’m not in yet, but I’m trying. Here to prove myself even if I’m not your typical recrurit,” he rambled on. Perhaps showing a little bit of Bluestreak in him. “I don’t know... I’m supposed to be getting my first shot of showing what I can do soon. But until then I’m just hanging around.”
He took a deep breath then. “Whoa, sorry I kinda rambled on there. Probably boring the scrap out of you.”
Bored? Bumblebee was far from it. Actually, he was pretty fascinated to know there was another human raised by an Autobot, one that was older than any of the other humans currently being raised by a Cybertronian. Long enough to start speaking in a lingo most humans never would. So, to say the least, Bumblebee's previous panic had faded to curiosity as he approached Jet.
"Heh, I wouldn't worry about too much Jet, I'm actually just surprised and intrigued at the moment." Bumblebee assured him, kneeling to one knee as he looked down at the human before him. "Seems whoever raised you really taught you a lot about our kind. Though, I suppose we all want to branch out on our own at some point." Bumblebee was reminded of his desire to prove he was capable of being of the warrior class years ago, eventually becoming a lieutenant and leader of his own team of Autobots, something he deeply wanted to prove to Optimus he was capable of doing. There was one thing he could definitely relate.
But, his rambling vaguely reminded him of someone. "I'll admit though, I haven't met someone who rambled that much since Bluestreak." Bumblebee chuckled, recalling the cop-bot always liked to talk about something regardless of what it was. But he merely shook his head smiled. "But I'm sure you'll do fine Jet. Some patience, effort, and discipline, sure you'll do fine in the army."
He definitely had been taught a lot about the Autobots by Bluestreak. Even though he was here only a short time he felt like he knew a lot of them at this point by reputation alone. He put his hands in his pockets and let him crouch down, smiling a little as he spoke up. “Yeah, my sire taught me just about everything. It’s pretty awesome. Though I kind of don’t find it in with the humans really,” he explained honestly. “Can’t have a normal upbringing when your site was a Bot on the road. Don’t even get me started on when we tried school. I had to practically look up half the slag they talked about. Still haven’t quite got a lot of things - so being around humans on here on a more daily basis will be weird.”
He then added with a small chuckle. “Sorry, I’m just kind of nervous. Talking to you is like talking to a rock star, bro,” he explained rather honestly. “Sire used to tell me all the time about your bravery at Tyger Pax. It was one of the things that made me want to come here. You were doing slag that brave at such a young age!”
Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear. Did he just say he sounded like Bluestreak? His heart stopped a minute as he panicked inwardly. Man was it that obvious? He panicked and then burst out. “Oh Primus is it that obvious? Pleaseeee don’t tell him I’m here! He’s probably losing his mind right now and agh! I already feel so bad about this as it is,” he explained. “I mean it didn’t think it would be so obvious that Blue was my sire. But I guess I can’t help that we act so similar. Sometimes I get going and..”
His eyes widened, Bee thought he’d do fine? Now that was a compliment. “I mean, I hope I’ll do fine if sire doesn’t show up - and drag my aft out. But I also know it’s kinda tough. I’d be the first human to do it,” he explained. “And I don’t want this getting out either. I don’t want to get in just because my sire is... Well, well known and all.”
Bumblebee was about to ask about how such a life had gone, specially since a nomadic life could be rough on any young being, human or Cybertronian. But it was Jet's main reason for coming way out here that had Bumblebee speechless. His mouth was open but nothing was coming out.
Once more Jet touched on a subject he often tried to keep buried and deep down in the core of his spark where it would remain. But the exploits of taking on Megatron and practically taking on a suicide mission had certainly caught the attention of some and what had happened that day did occasionally crop up. And truth be told, it made Bumblebee grimace at recalling the torture Megatron had personally put him through, in the end crushing his vocalizer. "That's the thing Jet, I was young, reckless, eager to prove I wasn't just some small pushover. I wanted to prove to the others I could be just as good as a warrior as I was a scout, so I insisted on taking the mission when no one else would." The muscle car told him, optics becoming unfocused for a moment.
Shaking his head, the lieutenant tried to push such memories aside. But the young adult before reacting to when he was reminded of Bluestreak surprised him even more and left him chuckling at the same time. "Wait! Bluestreak is your adoptive sire? No way!" Bumblebee said in disbelief. "I just meant you reminded me of him, I didn't know it was him." He pointed out to Jet, surprised anyone could handle the mech for long. But then again, he probably had had his reasons for taking in a younger Jet, if to keep him protected. It was just something the Autobots did and still did regardless.
Nevertheless Bumblebee still smiled, "Hey come on Jet, I think you're being too hard on yourself. Mean, no one in the military knows of Bluestreak far as I'm aware. And I'm sure you can prove your own worth your own way, and you'll eventually just find your place." The young mech encouraged, giving a broad grin. "We all have a purpose, its just a matter of finding it."
He'd always thought of it as something insanely heroic. But he also hadn't really thought about the long-lasting effects it probably had on Bumblebee. Something that made him feel a little embarrassed. Although noting just how much that sounded like what he felt like - and that made him nervous.
Maybe that would at least get through his head not to make the same mistake. He'd always been told that the way of the warrior was a hard one. But never expected it to be that hard. "Wow... I uh, never thought of it that way. Sorry if I uh, dug up a bad memory. Bumblebee, um, sir." he explained.
His reaction to Bluestreak made him blush a bit. So he hadn't figured it out? Slag! What kind of idiot had he been, freaking out like that? Taking a deep breath, he added. "Well, yeah. He's my sire... I don't know the whole story. Just that he crashed in my creators yard one day or somethin'," he explained, not really sure about all the specifics. "I feel like any day now he's gonna come bursting through that front door honestly. I didn't want to worry him - but I couldn't do a "normal" human job anymore. Slag, I sucked at it!"
Jet nodded. "Yeah, Optimus and Prowl said they'd keep it a secret for now... But, you really think I can make it on the team? Even as a human?" He asked, his eyes wide with surprise at the mech's response.
"Its alright Jet, I don't mind giving some of the details. I know such a story like that might be better suited with someone like Optimus or the other older bots, but suppose like you I just wanted to prove myself." Bumblebee assured him, managing to push aside the dark memories that had flooded back into his processor. Jet had no way of knowing what effects such an experience had left the former scout, so he couldn't bring himself to be upset or angered.
Pushing aside these thoughts for good for the time being, Bumblebee merely shook his head, "I'm sure Bluestreak would understand. I've never known him to be overly strict, no where near the level Prowl is. Least not when I last saw him he wasn't." The lieutenant rubbed his chin in thought. Bots could change. And it was likely a different case with Bluestreak being an adoptive sire, his habits and such could have changed...for the most part. The rambling and talking your audio off didn't seem to have changed one bit.
Still, it was nice to know some things remained the same considering how many changes that could happen since seeing old friends.
"Seriously Jet? We have human teenagers on this team that end up going out in the field without a second thought." Bumblebee pointed out, musing at recalling the many adventures they had had with their human allies, "I'd say your chances of being on this team or the military working alongside us isn't unlikely. Like I said, just give it a shot and with a little patience you might be surprised what happens." Bumblebee paused a moment, really reflecting on what he had just said. He was beginning to sound like Optimus, perhaps more than he was really noticing right now. But, Bumblebee had had similar talks and tidbits of wisdom from the Prime, so in such a case as this it only seemed right to pass the same kind of wisdom to another.
