Characters: @marie, @skids, Open Location: Jasper Desert Content Warnings: N/A Plot Summary: Jet decides to make a risky bid in an attempt to get the attention of the Autobots.
Jet really probably should have done this a different way.
But as of now he really had no other way of contacting the Autobots. Save for the comm his Autobot parent had given him years ago to communicate. He wasn’t even sure if it would reach the Autobots, or send said guardian tearing after him. But at least he knew he had successfully removed the tracker to keep them from coming here and ripping him a new one. At least for now! And that was always a good thing given he did not think they were going to take this well.
So he leaned against his beat up car quietly, messing with it.
How did he know if he was on the right frequency with this fragging thing anyway? Ok that one... Kinda looked right? He couldn’t tell but at the very least it seemed new to him. What was the worst that could happen, right? :Hello is this thing on? Yes, hi. The name’s Jetblaze - I’m requesting Autobot assistance. Looking to join up with the cause and all that slag. If you can hear me I’m on the edge of Jasper. And waitin’ for ya.:
He lowered the comm, well that seemed good enough to him.
Marie had made a habit of listening in on the Autobot frequencies as she rode her motorcycle to and fro, going about her business. It made life simpler. She could get ahold of someone if she needed to, she had instant warning to get the heck out of dodge if a 'con attack came, and she could serve as a holding person of sort if a newbie arrived and there was no one readily available. Useful all around. What she didn't expect was a very human voice coming over the comms. She rolled to a stop sign and paused.
The hell?
After a moment of debate, she answered. ::Marie, here. Which edge of Jasper? I'm in town and can meet you there.::
Hopefully, no one super paranoid was listening in. She didn't want to get chewed out. She was just worried about a possible stranger showing up like 'sup guys'. She didn't want one of the bots rushing into something. Though it would likely upset some of them, she definitely had a 'better me than them' attitude about her relationship with any of them.
Besides, she would be careful. She had her mace, and her strength was returning every day! It would be fine!
Earth was...interesting, to say the least. He'd never actually been to Earth before, and he wasn't even sure this was his Earth (could he really call it his if he'd never actually been?) but it was an Earth and that was good enough. He'd wanted to visit Earth ever since Swerve got him caught up in the organics' culture. Fascinating creatures, Earthlings. Intelligent, too. He especially liked their spy films. Great plots. He'd lived a few of them himself, but, still, great.
He had taken a shift as one of the bots 'on call'. It was only fair. He couldn't very well just lounge around the base and take up space. He didn't have Nautica to talk to or Swerve's to rush off too. Right now, he was just...stuck. Might as well help out. And if someone did call, he got to do some exploring. Not a bad deal.
At the moment, he had retreated to the Rec. Room, where his optics were glued to the screen as his favorite human action hero leapt across a dangerous gap, an explosion lighting the air behind him. The theoretician let out a low whistle as Bond nearly didn't make the jump.
"You are one lucky bastard, Mr. Bond..." he muttered.
His viewing was interrupted by an incoming transmission. He paused his movie, attention immediately diverting. A frown stole across his faceplates. Jetblaze? The name wasn't familiar. Though, with his memory issues, that wasn't surprising. Requesting Autobot assistance? Joining up with the cause? One eye ridge shifted. That sounded very suspicious...like a trap. He was friendly, but, also naturally suspicious. When someone called out of nowhere, requesting a meeting...well, it was an old trick.
He was about to call it in to a higher up, question what should be done, maybe grab some backup, when someone else replied. He paused. Then, he sighed. He'd heard of their human allies, and was fairly certain the female who'd replied was one of them. Unfortunately, she wasn't fully aware of why caution was necessary, it appeared.
Muttering a 'well, here we go' under his breath, Skids hoisted himself up and departed the Rec room. He tapped his comm.
::This is Skids,:: the accent he'd picked up upon his landing rolled heavily over the words, ::The lady's right. It would be helpful if you gave us some coordinates to work with.::
He hadn’t thought this through very well had he? He grinded his teeth a little - trying to figure out what to do or where he was at all. He didn’t know the area well either so this was going to get really awkward really fast. After a moment he made another realization, that he other end had another human and a Cybertronian. He swallowed a little bit - this was going to get really awkward indeed. He didn’t have a lot of experience with humans over a long time...
Even less with girls.
He tugged the collar of his shirt slowly, taking a deep breath. He put his comm up to his mouth, and thought about what he could do or say. His eyes scanned the area. He saw a gas station in the distance, but far enough away from the area that it wouldn’t be hard to meet. :Sorry, I’m not used to this place yet. I drove all the way from Texas, had almost no idea where I was going,: he managed rather calmly, nervous. :I’m right down the road from some old rundown gas station. Can’t miss me only person on the side of the road.:
He was probably coming off only more confusing at this point but it couldn’t be too bad.
Well...huh. One of the bots had picked up. And she didn't know him. Was he...Scottish? She supposed it was possible...just weird. Really weird. At least he seemed pretty chill.
Marie quickly ran through possible locations on a mental list. When she found the right one, 'rundown gas station' being the major clue, she set off, making a quick turn on her motorcycle and jetting down the road.
::On my way.::
She would pull up at the gas station some fifteen minutes later, rolling to a stop and putting a foot down to balance without getting off. She wasn't approaching alone. Not before scouting out the situation...and hopefully not until Skids arrived.
He sighed. Well. Best to do this the old fashioned way. A short few moments later, he'd successfully tracked both signals and applied them to his g.p.s. He wasn't up there with someone of, say, Soundwave's caliber, but he'd learned a few things over the years. He transformed and rolled out, exiting the base and streaking off into the desert.
He was nearly to the gas station when he saw the lone figure, and that of a female on a two-wheel vehicle at the gas station itself. He pulled up slowly, activating his holoform. Best to check first. The driver's side door opened and a dark haired main stepped out.
Of course he knew that the mechanic was using a holoform. He’d grown up around one so he knew all about them and their usage. Not to mention he had gotten the feeling from the com that the man on the other end was Cyberonian. While the other, Marie, was almost certainly an actual human like him. He straightened himself a bit and started the slow approach wondering what he would say to them. Please don’t shoot I come in peace?
He put up his hands a bit to show he wasn’t armed first.
And then he looked directly at Skids. Knowing there was only one way that a Cybetronian was going to believe what was going to be one hell of a story. To the untrained war he would have been speaking gibberish, but any Cybertronian would recognize the dialect even without the mechanical inflections. ”Good orn to you sir. My name is Jetblaze,” he spoke clearly in the language. ”This isn’t a trap, I promise. And I know this is very confusing but I can explain everything.”
He then returned to his own native English dialect. “So you’re... Uh, a human ally I guess?” He asked questioningly. “Nice to meet you, given names Jetblaze. Most of our kind just call me “Jet” it’s easier and all. It’s nice to meet you uh... Homie?” He told her. Trying to use a bit of human lingo.
She'd guessed this was going to be interesting. In fact she'd been super tense until Skids rolled up. She'd been around long enough to recognize a holoform, and, when his exited his vehicle form, she unconsciously shifted closer. Her face remained hidden in her helmet as the newcomer approached, hands up.
And then he spoke Cybertronian.
At first, she was surprised. Then, she was jealous.
She'd literally just started learning this language and this weirdo walks out of the freaking desert and starts speaking it. Her eye twitched. Now he was talking to her. The heck kind of a name was 'Jetblaze'?
Her eye twitched again. Homie?
"S'up," she returned, "Marie Knight. And...yeah, I guess 'ally' is an apt enough term."
Well, now. That was unexpected. He'd activated his holoform to handle the situation, not really sure what he was getting into. And the human started speaking Cybertronian. He didn't miss the way the other one, Marie, shifted a bit closer to him. Ah. So she was uncomfortable. At least she trusted the Autobots to protect her...
Right, back to what was happening right now.
One of the holoform's eyebrows crept up.
"Hello, there, Jet," Skids returned mildly in English, "As impressed as I am, let's keep it to a more common language for now, yeah? After all, I'm not the one you've got to impress. I just happened to be the one to pick up your signal."
He gave a slight shrug.
"But, out of curiosity, how is it that you know Cybertronian so well?"
Of course he knew he shouldnt have jumped the gun. But at the same time - he had thought it before. No one would believe his story otherwise. He looked between the two of them. And took a seat, this was going to be a bit to go over.
“Sorry, I just knew If I just showed up telling my story no one was going to believe me. I thought if I spoke Cybetronian, I’d be a bit more... Uh, real?” He asked, then added. “Marie then, nice to meetcha. Sorry if I confused you at all... it’s all good in the hood though, right?”
He took a deep breath before answering Skids question
“I speak it because... Well, I know you guys probably thought you were the only Bots on Earth. But I’ve spent the last two decades with someone who would say otherwise,” he explained. “I don’t want to say who it is. He doesn’t know I’m here and since he’s my sire... Adopted or not he’s probably going to flip a lid when he sees the note I left.”
He then explained. “Long story short, I’m the son of a friend that’s been here for a long time. And he kinda picked me up along the way. Adopted me, raised me,” he explained - making it clear that he was very serious. “I’ve wanted to come here for some time. But he didn’t want me involved. Especially growing up... But the long story short?”
He paused a moment. “I want to enlist. And I know how crazy that sounds - but even if my dad is gonna be totally fragged off it’s something I have to do.” He explained.
And then waited for whatever dumbfounded reaction he expected was coming.
Marie had decided that she liked Skids. He had a way of just...saying things as they were. But, it didn't make talking to this guy any less weird. Being the linguist she was, she'd almost immediately picked up on his odd word choices, the English translations of Cybertronian swears. At least, the big, golden guy said them a lot and very angrily, so she thought they were swears.
And then he busted out 'good in the hood'.
What the heck.
She cocked a brow, though it was lost under her helmet. After a pause, she reached up to remove said helmet.
"You too. But, dude... fluent Cybertronian or not, you seriously need to brush up on your slang," she said, keeping her voice level as she dragged her fingers through her hair to shake it out.
Placing her helmet on the small, raised bump on the seat in front of her, she then leaned back, settling in for his explanation of himself. Son of mysterious friend. Though, the use of 'sire' told her it was another one of those weird robot-adopting-the-human situations.
...Had Jetfire adopted her? Or was he just like...the cool uncle? That question still bothered her.
Both eyebrows shot up now. A volunteer? As someone who had been dragged into the whole 'robot war' thiing, almost literally kicking and screaming, this was odd to her. She turned her head to look at Skids and see his reaction to all of this.
