Characters:Override, @moonracer, @excellion Location: Velocitron Content Warnings: Violence, drinking, possibly at high speeds Plot Summary: The last lap of the Override 500 doesn't end with somebody crossing the finish line.
"It is a beautiful day today at the Aeon Speedway, mechs and femmes! As perfect a time as any to host the Override 500!" the announcer cheered.
Override blocked out the noise by shaking the mixer several speeds faster, mostly for the noise. Any faster and the sensitive contents inside might just combust. She'd never had a court like some of the previous Suprema had, at least not how she viewed courts. The small group of Velocitronians spread out before her constituted what many would consider her 'court', however. A collection of her closest friends, and even a few rivals; a few of them were even both. Every once in a while she'd raid the fully-stocked bar situated in the Suprema's box at each race course and promptly tend bar for her 'court'.
To ignore the fact that her people had named a race after her, Celeron Sunrises were the bartender's choice today.
Just as her arms became a veritable blur from shaking so quickly, Override suddenly stopped. She popped open the lid of the mixer to pour its contents into five glasses sitting on the counter top before her. She quickly snatched a steel rod from behind the counter, placed there for a very specific reason. The reigning Suprema held the rod horizontally above the drinks below it, and quickly ran her thumb across its length, making quite a few sparks in the process. As the sparks fell to the glasses beneath them, their contents lit up in a dazzling yellow flame.
Just in time for the racers to hit the halfway mark, too.
Override scooped up her own drink as her patrons showed their appreciation for her nontraditional skill set, as well for the free drinks.
Now, where was Moonracer when she was lighting drinks on fire?
"Did I miss the best part of the drinks?" Moonracer spoke as she arrived fashionably late to the 'court' her Amica had gathered, a bright, broad grin on her face as usual. Though, this time Moonracer seemed particularly in good spirits than she had been in a while.
It had felt in forever since she had set foot on their home, having been traveling the galaxy here and there with the Autobots, more specifically, the Wreckers in the past several centuries. The moment she had set foot on her home world and was greeted by the many familiar faces did it really hit her of just how homesick she had been. Her spark had ached to return for so long, and to tear up the tracks of her old stomping grounds and now here she was, right in the middle of the Override 500 race day no less.
To say the least, Moonracer was pumped! She had taken time to enjoy a few races for fun and watch some of the race for a bit, getting quite engrossed in cheering from a high point most would have avoided. Given the years of having to find such high points for a good vantage point, Moonracer was quite use to it and didn't quite mind the view. A part of her even wished Powerglide could have enjoyed it with her.
But given the time that had passed, Moonracer had lost track of the time and was only just arriving. "Sorry for the tardiness, I got so engrossed in the race I almost forgot we were meeting." She apologized with a sheepish smile, especially towards her closest friend and Suprema, finally taking a seat that was empty at the bar.
Moonracer wasn't the only one who was making her return after being gone for a long period of time.
Excellion had likewise returned to Velocitron, more so because he happened to be within the means to reach home rather than gallivanting about the universe hunting Decepticons. Not that Velocitron wasn't probably devoid of having some of its own, but he really couldn't do much when they weren't causing trouble. It was those actively causing chaos mayhem that Excellion was the most concerned about. But seeming as he was in the neighborhood it never hurt to visit.
And well, not much had changed since he left except for the place being fully repaired and in better shape than when he left. Though the young punk perked up as heard the announcer, following the booming sound of the speakers followed by the even greater roar of the crowds. Override 500...been a while since he had heard that, even longer than hearing the cheers and roars of the crowd for the Speedia.
Drawn to the Aeon Speedway, Excellion lingered on the edge of the crowd, eyeing the competitors this year's race. Seemed decent this year. A few racers stood out that had potential, though it was clear some had even a greater ways to go before they would reach the Speedia themselves. Though seeming as this race was going on...
Turning his blazing blue optics towards the Suprema's box, he couldn't help wondering if the Suprema and her court were likewise enjoying the race. With nothing better to do, he merely shrugged and made his way to the box some minutes after Moonracer herself had arrived, making a rather noisy entrance, "YO! Guess whose back glitches!"
Moonracer's arrival was met with a resounding cheer, particularly from some of the gathered femmes. Override beamed back a smile as well, hoisting her drink in a toast before taking a sip, practically sucking up the flames. "I've already lit them on fire, but downing them's the best part, anyway." That being said, the Suprema quickly ducked behind the bar to fetch Moonracer her own drink, not giving her Amica the chance to order properly. Then she had to go and remind her about the race.
Override stood back up with a host of ingredients, quickly dumping them into the mixer before she proceeded to shake them at mach 2. "Ughhh... please don't remind me about the race... and its name. I swear the only reason I show up here is because of y'all and your company." Override was technically addressing the court, but gave a wink to Moonracer.
"Honestly though, the Moonracer 500 sounds like a much better name for a race, don't y-"
With genuine surprise she turned to face one of the loudest beings she'd ever met. Override was equally shocked to find Excellion back on Velocitron. Despite how she felt about him, she gave him a grin. "Excellion. Has the high and mighty grown tired of racing on alien roads after all this time?"
Moonracer's grin widened a bit at the resounding cheers, recognizing almost all of those gathered. Being around a familiar setting with familiar individuals seemed to relax the young Wrecker a little more. "Then I'm right on time then." Moonracer mused at the toast. It had been sometime since she had attended a race and Override was tending to the bar personally.
Though she chuckled softly, knowing good and well Override wasn't thrilled about the name of the race. "I know you hate it Override, but I just mean its hard not to get into all the hype and excitement. Especially with being gone so long." Though Moonracer didn't doubt her Amica would understand. Racing was deeply ingrained in a majority of Velocitronians with the rare exceptions, so it was only natural the moment she had returned Moonracer was eager to see some of the action. "But look at the bright side, we're all here and you don't have to worry about it for a while."
Her grin, however, quickly turned into one of a slight frown as Override began mentioning a name change. One of which Moonracer wasn't quite so keen on herself. But before she could cut in to say something else might be better they had a rather surprising intrusion, the blue femme turning in her chair to see Excellion who had likewise not been there in some time. "Must be a day for wayward racers."
The shock plastered on the faces of some of the greatest racers Velocitron had to offer was priceless to Excellion. Mostly because no one probably expected him to be back, not without really announcing it perhaps. But for once he had decided to take a different approach and make an entrance. Not that he wasn't use to doing just that.
Smirking slightly, he merely shrugged, "I wouldn't exactly say that boss lady, more like I was in the neighborhood so I decided to drop in." He told her as he approached the bar, not expecting any welcomes or friendly greetings, not with the kind of rep he had around the planet. Coming in uninvited just being part of that list. Nor did he really care if he was welcomed with open arms or hostility and annoyance, he was there and wasn't leaving any time soon as leaned on the bar where the area was free, a sly grin forming on his face.
"Wayward indeed, I thought you left this place behind too Moonracer." He joked, the femme having left well before him. Though, his words were mostly a joke since she had been Velocitron's ambassador to Cybertron and it never crossed his processor she too had been gone. Nevertheless, it was clear the unwelcomed guest wasn't leaving any time soon.
Override knew full well that since Excellion was now here, he wouldn't be leaving any time soon. She could deal with that, probably. "Oh I wouldn't let Moonracer stay gone for too long," she joked, ducking behind the bar. "Sooner or later I'd hunt her down and drag her back, anyway." Override's second comment however, was not a joke, despite the apparent tone she'd taken.
She returned a moment later while mixing another engex cocktail for Excellion. Naturally, she was mixing him the strongest sauce on the menu; nothing less wouldn't have satisfied his hubris. Override poured the mixer's rather reddish contents into a glass, sliding it over. "I'm surprised you didn't just drop in to steal first place. Because that's what I would've done."
"Hell, I did do that a few weeks back after I returned from Earth."
Override shrugged, taking a sip of her still-fiery beverage.
"Who's in first right now?" she asked, peering over the counter to look down at the track. She'd have to congratulate the winner personally, and she'd rather it not be Ransack.
“Ambassador duties kind of took a strange turn for a few centuries.” Moonracer responded to Excellion, seeing his raised optic ridge towards her then Override. But the joking tone to a not-so-joking tone had Moonracer looking off to the side with as an innocent look as she could have while casually sipping her favorite drink. One Override always had beat no matter where she went. “The Wreckers needed some additional eyes.” She said with a light smile, hoping Override wasn’t entirely upset with her.
Given the circumstances, the younger racer had thought it was a good idea at the time. Their planet had managed to push through its own civil war and she had wanted to do more for their allies. Granted she hadn’t said anything at first before she disappeared off the grid.
Clearing her throat, Moonracer turned in her chair to watch the race once more, optics zooming in slightly as she peered at the track. “Might be Ransack again seeming as no one else really matches his speed aside from you Override.” The blue femme spoke, blinking a couple of times as her optics shifted back to normal, taking another long sip of her engex. “If you really want a show I could always jump in last minute.” Moonracer mused, not usually one to jump into the middle of a race such as this one. Besides it was reaching its end soon enough.
“Ooohhhoh, so the great ambassador does have an impulsive gear in her somewhere.” Excellion said with a soft whistle, never expecting Moonracer not to say something. And given Override’s change in words and tone, it was clear the Suprema would have acted on her words. The two femmes were close and given the reputation of the Wreckers...”Let us toast that the Wreckers haven’t taken a good friend from us just yet. Apparently, Velocitron has prepared our dearest Moonracer for the hardships of Black Ops.” Excellion raised his drink in a mock toast, earning a look of ire from the small femme.
Unfazed by the glare shot his way, he took a small gulp of his engex before looking at those gathered. “See, you expect me to. And that takes the fun out of what I do boss lady.” Excellion chuckled, grinning slightly. “Ya know I gotta keep you guys guessin’, otherwise it just ain’t worth the attempts.” And that was probably why so few trusted the hot head of a racer.
Excellion was reckless and brash, even by Velocitronian standards. His reckless, nonchalant attitude in pressing his luck has more than earned the ire of others, maybe except for the likes of during their civil war. He had more than made a name for himself during the conflict, and now he found pleasure in bashing Decepticons around outside his home planet. It was why he had been gone for so long rather than being idle here at home. And it was probably why so few trusted him without his attitude and antics getting the best of him and risking lives.
Though the moment he heard Moonracer musing over getting involved, he immediately had his drink down and placed fifty shanix on the counter, “Still a lap or two left Moony, I bet fifty shanix you won’t do it.” The maverick racer spoke, eager to see if she really would.
Override kept to her drink as Moonracer and Excellion went back and forth, partially diverting her attention to the race itself. While Excellion would occasionally escalate from boasting, she was still glad that they were all able to hold such a conversation at all. She neglected to intercede on Moonracer's behalf largely because she knew for a fact that her best friend was capable of dishing it out as hard as she could take it. Excellion wasn't the only one who could loud-mouth it around here, and plus Override was manning the bar, so maybe the beast would come out today.
"Oh... no need for that." Override remarked, despite having randomly jumped into a race herself just a few weeks prior. "Besides, the engex is up here, not down there. Plus, Excellion needs his shanix for the bar tab he's about to run up. So really, I'll be taking it either way."
Passing a glance to the race once more, which looked to be in its final lap, Override couldn't help but notice the lead car; more specifically, how their underside was blinking red. Without even having the time to process what it meant, the lead car ceremoniously detonated in a violent fireball as it crossed the finish line, spitting debris in every direction and scattering the racers close behind them. Rushing to the balcony to peer over at the track, Override caught the next series of blasts out of the corner of her optic, blowing holes in the stands to her left.
Having all happened within the span of three seconds, Override was least of all prepared when a final blast rocked the Suprema's box itself. The floor erupted as the shaped charge that had been covertly placed beneath it shattered the room, tossing its occupants about. Override herself was crunched up against the corner next to her, her senses and mind both still in complete shock.
"She's got a point." Moonracer agreed, briefly entertaining the thought of putting Excellion's money where his mouth was. But as usual it seemed Override had other thoughts, which the younger racer didn't quite mind. She would prefer to spend her time among friends and familiar faces anyhow rather than taking off to butt into a race.
But it was as the blue Wrecker went to take another sip did the explosion happen, causing her to drop her drink in surprise. Following right behind Override, Moonracer stopped by the balcony railing, optics wide as the series of explosions happened one after another, jaw dropping in utter shock and horror.
Shooting a look of concern towards her Amica, Moonracer had no chance to get a word out before the floor beneath them was engulfed in one final explosion, causing Moonracer to be blasted from the Suprema box with cry of surprise before crashing to what remained of the stands below. The fall was enough to knock most of the wind from her intakes, causing her to gasp sharply and vision to blur for a solid minute, leaving her momentarily stunned and systems reeling.
Excellion gave an annoyed huff when Override remarked on the tab he would undoubtedly run up in his time there. Mostly for the fact his fun had been cut short before it had began. Although, Override spoke truth about his bad habit of drinking more than he needed to, but he never seemed to mind quite that much.
"Alright, alright, but still think it would have been worth it." He grumbled as he scooped up his shanix once again, gulping down his first drink already. "We figure out whose taking first yet? Maybe I'll jump into the fun myself...after a few more drinks." Excellion spoke, turning slightly to peer at the race going on. But he too focused on the blinking red light of the lead racer, raising an optic ridge in wonder. That was an unusual mod to stand out with...
A thought that barely crossed his processor before he tensed from the first explosion and the subsequent ones that followed. "What the frag?!" He had barely stepped away from the counter before the explosion beneath the bar suddenly sent the bulky racer off his feet, grunting in pain as he was crushed up against the wall by some of the debris and helm aching from slamming against the wall. Left somewhat sore and helm throbbing, Excellion shook off the slight dizziness, forcing off the debris from his frame and stumbling forward a bit while waving away the dust left behind. "Boss lady! Moonracer!" The mech called out towards the two femmes, squinting his optics briefly as he searched them out and the remaining occupants along the way.
But what really had him concerned was who exactly had set off the charges that caused this.
For some reason, Override was looking at both the center of the room, and the floor down beside her.
Oh.
As the shock started to set in, Override was finally able to assess the damage. Not only was she missing an optic, she'd also suffered extensive damage to her left side. Her forearm, leg, and half of her face had also been blown away. As she attempted to sit up, Override felt all the new cracks and fractures up and down her frame. Although she was in some serious pain, Override's Suprema mode began to kick in.
Her official and not-at-all-professional medical diagnosis was that her wounds were mostly superficial, and that nothing critical had been damaged. She was going to miss that leg, though.
Override's second attempt to push herself to her... foot, was met with less success than the first. She toppled over after halfway managing to stand up, both the pain and gravity having their way with her. From her comfortable spot on the cracked floor, she tilted her gaze up to search for her friends.
Her audials were met with sound, once more.
She heard the flames, the screaming, the shouting, and above all... the blaster fire.
"Excellion..." she called out weakly, extending her good arm toward the source of her favorite idiot's voice.
Moonracer had faired somewhat better than her friend, though she wasn’t sure just how damaged she was or Override at first. And the others...who knew what their condition was with being so close in proximity to that blast that undoubtedly took out half the Suprema box, maybe slightly less if they were lucky.
Groaning as she finally caught her second wind, the blue racer finally pushed herself over onto her hands and knees, hissing under her breath as pain shot up all along her back from the right side and the side of her cheek. Warnings from her system flashed across her internal computer which warned of severe damage to her back and some along her right side, one of which she was sure was a dislocated knee joint. But that pain didn’t fully register in her dazed state as her vision focused and took in the chaos around herself, screaming and hysteria filling the air along with the sound she feared to hear again on their home world. As if they didn’t have enough of that during the civil war days and the constant battle with the Decepticons as it was.
‘Come on Moonracer, you got to get moving.’ She urged herself, gritting her teeth as she forced herself to kneel to one knee, finding that her joint was in fact dislocated and her back armor protesting from the cracks and sparking wires but not allowing herself to be a sitting duck. Resting her one hand near the joint and one on her foreleg she yelped as she popped the joint into place before hauling herself to her feet, making a grab for one of her rifles that was somewhat intact from being blasted off the balcony. Though this brought back her concern for the others, opening a com channel towards any of them, “::Override! Excellion! Anyone! Are you guys alright? Anyone still alive up there?::” Moonracer didn’t want to fear the worst right away, but given what damage the explosion left behind she could only hope for an answer as she pushed through the pain and began aiming her rifle towards those firing into the crowd.
A scan of those involved in the incident only further complicated the situation with realizing this appeared to be a political move, recognizing the symbol of none other than Incinerator. “Geez, does that old geezer never know when to take a loss?” She muttered as she began firing on the former Supreme’s followers, aiming to disarm or incapacitate, aiming for their hands, an arm, or the legs if she could help it as she backed up towards the Superma Box entrance and now left with a slight limp in her movements.
