Characters:Ratchet, Perceptor Location: Autobot Base - Medical Bay Content Warnings: N/A Plot Summary: Working on a small project of his in an attempt to aid the Autobots, Ratchet finds himself needing a bit more help than he'd originally thought. Perhaps one of the most brilliant minds on all of Cybertron can assist him?
Energon shortages were never a good thing, and finding a fresh deposit to mine from was especially difficult these days. The Decepticons had taken over a vast majority of the mines, and that made finding energon that much harder. Ratchet had thought to himself many times what he could do to aid in the crisis, but there was only so much that he could do when it came to their fuel supplies.
Or was there?
It'd given him the idea to try and make a generic version of their fuel, a.. synthetic variation. It wouldn't be easy, and it would require much time and dedication in order to pull it off, but he was certainly more than determined to get it done. By no means was he prepared to through various compounds together. Oh no. For the moment he was studying a small sample of low grade energon, looking deeply into it. If he could find the components that made it, kept it together.. then they were one step closer to solving this energon crisis.
The medic had taken a step back, thinking to himself. He so didn't have the means of making this work, at least.. not just yet. Perhaps if he had an extra hand or two, he could find a solution much more quickly.
Perceptor was one of those who had worked on the synthetic energon. A paradox was his name. A long story. But he disapproved -after many year working on it- this idea. It was difficult to explain, but create a synthetic energon could create many problems… But it was on Cybertron. There was a lot of energon at first, so no need to hurry… But the war started and resource depletion emphasizes this idea. However he had to work on the Ark, and therefore impossible to continue his research. Today this idea was again interesting. However, if it fell into the wrong hands... if the Decepticon harvested just a sample, it would be the end for the Autobots. No more time to pass in mines if you have unlimited resources. So, no need mining… They can becomes soldiers after this… and then… more Decepticon to shut them down. He always not approved this idea, even though he was very undecided.
But… wait. When Perceptor has happened on earth? Few days ago, in his capsule. He was always in it. Its signal started to be active, but was hidden. Impossible to know what it is! The Decepticons acould be interested. No time to lost! Go use your groundbridge Ratchet, and bring home an old friend!
(Sorry it's small. If something is wrong, go tell me!)
If there had been previous attempts at working on a synthetic form of energon, Ratchet had been unaware. He'd been too focused on keeping everyone alive on their home world to concern himself with such a project. Keep everyone alive, endure the battles, and stay alive. It sounded simple, but it was anything but. The hardest part had been just keeping others online, especially when he couldn't save everyone.
There was one concern as he had his thoughts about creating such a substance. While it would be one of the most useful resources for the Autobots, if the Decepticons got their servos on it.. it would mean trouble for everyone. Ratchet really didn't want to give them that extra ammunition. Their increasing ranks were bad enough..
Just as he began to jot down some of these notes, their systems had detected a signal. He couldn't exactly make out who or what this one belonged to, but he wasn't about to let the Decepticons find it first. Opening up the ground bridge, he went after the signal. Just where was it coming from.. however? After some searching, he stumbled across a pod, curious as to it's contents. First, the medic examined it, getting any information he could. There was no point in opening it in the event that it was a Decepticon pod.. containing a potentially dangerous Decepticon.
Luckily.. that had not been the case. In fact, it'd been the other way around. Now that he knew it had been of Autobot origin, he manually opened the pod. The question was.. who or what was in it?
During his sleep, the scientist had dreamed. His dreams were made of a green… Like Earth, yes. It was just a coincidence, of course. Stasis are sometime very weird. Some bots don't support eat, physically or mentally, but Perceptor was really okay. He was in good health. Ratchet won't have to much work with him. By the way, the doctor will probably very surprise by who is in this pod. For many, he's dead. Totally dead. Perceptor didn't seem friendly, but he have many friends… Like Ratchet for example? He seemed like a simple colleague, but they worked close to each other during the war, especially during the production of the Ark. Percy have great respect for Ratchet's work. He's a great medic.
The pod opened. Some ice vapor escaped. Perceptor growled like an animal. Although he was well, that kind of thing gave him a headache. He sat up, holding his head, grimacing in displeasure. He was not usually a problem to wake up for him, but in this situation it's very different. He opened his optics. At first he saw nothing, then the images became blurred, and finally totally net. He looked around. Where was he? He seemed disturbed. He who was never very expressive he was surprise. He was a physicist and biologist somewhat, so that kind of place was just incredibly interesting for him.
He finally saw Ratchet. Or at least he looked like him. His earthly appearance had changed him a little. Hopefully, he was discovered by the Autobots, and not the Decepticons. Maybe they was all dead? And this place was their new home? Why not after all?
- … Ratchet? … Is that you?
He adjusted his monocle to be sure to see him correctly… He also seemed older. How long had he slept? Surely too long!
To be honest, Ratchet hadn't the slightest idea who or what might have been inside the pod. He waited it for it to open, waiting in silence as the ice vapor escaped. Moment of truth. He was going to find out just what was contained inside this pod.
Maybe not so much a 'what', but rather.. a who.
Ratchet blinked a few times, staring at the mech inside the pod. Primus, just how long had it been since the last time he saw this guy? "Perceptor..?" He could hardly believe it! Sure, they hadn't been the closest of friends or anything, but regardless, this was one of the most gifted scientific minds on all of Cybertron. Someone like Perceptor would be a great asset to the Autobot troops on Earth. Just where had this guy been all this time?
"Of course it's me. Who else would I be?"
As Perceptor adjusted his monocle, Ratchet held out a hand in order to help him out of of the pod. "It's been quite some time since the last time we met. I never would have imagined that we would see you on this Earth planet. I should probably get you back to base, but I'll give you some time to wake up first."
What a surprise! Ratchet! Yes, he was not really a friend, but he was very gifted as doctor, probably one of the best. It was absolutely fabulous that he was alive. Internally it made him a very happy scientist. They might do great things together…. If the old doctor did not grumble too much, of course.
- … Earth? … We are on Earth?
He said, grabbing his hand to get out of the pod. It was his destination! With the rest of the Ark! But he no longer knows what happened. Stay as long in the pod seems to have affected his memory temporarily… Or for ever, who now? But it's probably better that way.
- ... My last memories were in the Ark ... What happened? Were are the others ?
He was not easy to see it on his face, but he was really worried. Do not remembering any of it logically deduced that if he was in a capsule, it was because something bad had happened. In fact, he was a battle between the two ships -the Ark and the Nemesis- and they cashed on Earth long long time ago. Today, most are simply… dead. Certain are still in the star, traveling in the galaxy. What Autobots do not know is that there are also colonies in the space. Having now a correct view, after rubbing a light, he looked around. Everything was green and organic as assumed. The sky was very blue today, and the air very hot. A perfect summer's day. Perceptor then said something that was obvious for him to say:
- … Hum. Interesting. So it's really an organic planet? … It's not to much for you, Ratchet? I know that you… do not really like new things, no offense.
Truthful! Even if they were only colleagues, but he had often seen Ratchet resent some change. Probably the apprehension or fear, he did not know. Maybe even something else? Perceptor suddenly understood something. Something that worried me greatly. He stopped looking at the landscape, and stared at the other robot with an almost icy air, well known in the scientific to hide his fear, frustration, or concern.
- Wait. The… base? … It is always the war, is not it?
He looked around again, then add:
- You are right. Let's leave this place.
