Dylan sighed in relief as he set the skateboard down and sat.
Well that definitely fell in line with what he’d heard about Sunstreaker. Though he could probably still make the argument he was no soft customer either. Yet these two were the ones he was often compared to - or at least to Sides. And possibly of like minds on the pranking side of things, so the last thing he wanted was to piss either off. It’d been a long time since he’d actually had a pranking partner after all.
He definitely had to do something about that “squishy” thing though.
“No worries - I figured he was coming out anyway. You guys are twins after all, right?” He notes rather honestly over the radio - then added. “As for Sunstreaker, not gonna ruin your paint job dude so try not to get to freak out too much, ok?” It was said in a joking way - but probably honest enough. “Got any damage you want me to call into my dad or Ratchet in the meatime?” He asked, knowing he should ask about that.
Sunstreaker preened at his brother's words, actually rising up on his wheels a bit. Compliments from others were more like statements of fact. But, compliments from Sideswipe felt real. Smugness radiated off the gold car, no doubt echoing through their bond, like the purr of a satisfied cat.
"For all of its failings, this planet does have some adequate vehicles."
The sun shone off his gold paint as he led his brother at a moderate pace. They could both go very fast, but, he was unwilling to push Sideswipe in his current condition. Until they saw a medic, he wouldn't be allowing him to test any limits.
Sideswipe's offering caused him to slow slightly in hesitation. He hated the filth organics produced, but..
::...Are you sure?::
His hesitance was erased by Sideswipe's warning about his temper. He smirked. That much was true...touching him without permission was sure to cause some pain. And the human had heard of them. Good. Then he would know to mind his hands. And bodily fluids. And sloughing skin. And loose hairs. He shuddered again. Primus, humans were disgusting.
He would let his brother answer the question about damage, since he was the one who needed the medic. Still, he bristled. Like they couldn't use a slagging comm. themselves. But, this was, as the humans said, Sideswipe's scene. He'd keep his peace...for now.
::Better me than you.:: He also shuddered in revulsion, a side effect of his twin's feelings on the matter. ::And keep it to yourself, I don't need to know how gross they are.:: He was able to at least go the speed limit, which he was thankful for. This taking it easy sucked massively, but he'd rather do it this way than fry something on the way to base attempting to goad his twin into a race that he knew he'd lose.
Sideswipe shifted his comms back to the squishy as he saw him coming into view. He actually had to slow and inch up until he was next to the small organic creature, curiosity making him scan the Dylan-creature before popping open his door. Which made an awful grinding noise as the joint protested.
He vented lowly, following his brother's train of thought. ::You can call ahead. I'm pretty banged up. Actually, if you look just there, near the tracks, you'll see the remnants of the pod I came down in.:: He winced, sensing the fit about to happen. ::Like I said earlier, I almost got hit by a train.:: He didn't think anything of Dylan offering. If the organic needed to feel useful, then he could call back to base and alert them of injured incoming. He didn't care. He let that be known, he just didn't care. He didn't have the energy to be offended. If he thought about it later, and was bothered, he'd just drop the little squishy thing into a huge pile of something nasty.
Then, of course, rolling forward and back a little so that his engine didn't stall, he ran over something warm and squishy. His entire frame shuddered as it coated his tire. He might have already been dirty, but this just drew the line. Worse, broken up whatever it was started to stink. ::Can we just get going please? I don't know what I just rolled into, but its rank. Sunstreaker, don't roll near me, I don't want it touching you. Its bad enough its on me.::
Dylan gave a thumbs up. Then, as if picking up on Sunstreakers mindset - he added: “Good, I would have let you call it in. But you’ve got enough to worry about since you’re damaged and so does your brother,” he explained - honestly it was true. He got hit by a damn train! Not like that happened everyday and Sunstreaker needed to focus on helping his brother. “You sure you’re good to drive at all? I can probably ask him for a ground bridge while we’re at it.”
As he waited for an answer Dylan flipped over the comm channel to Ratchet. He expected he’d probably hear screaming on the other end when he reported this back - and not the good kind. So how did he put this without making Ratchet aware of the big surprise that was waiting for him on the other end. “Hey doc bot, I’ve got a new Bot coming in that needs a med bay,” he explained - then adding. “Just found him. His pod was hit by a train - probably want to get right on that!”
He really hoped he caught his partner/older brother in a good mood.
Ratchet had only just finished putting away his medical equipment when he suddenly heard Dylan's voice. He was still attempting to adjust to this whole 'big brother to a human through adoption' thing, but that would come over time. For now he'd just treat things as if they were 'normal' and just adjust as time went on.
"Hit by a what..?" Sounds like a new bot arrived on Earth and didn't have the most friendly of welcomes. He grumbled, pulling his equipment right back out and getting a berth prepared for this most unfortunate spark. "I'm getting the medical bay prepped, but what are the state of his injuries? How bad of shape?" Maybe that wasn't the best of questions for him, but at the same time any info he could give him would help get severe injuries dealt with quicker.
...Hopefully there wouldn't be any.
Once the medical bay was prepared, Ratchet moved to the main room of the base, getting a lock on the coordinates from the Dylan's comm. "I'm opening the Ground Bridge now. Tell me if you need me to get him through or if he's alright enough to make it."
The fact that Sideswipe was picking up on his thoughts and emotions so strongly meant that their bond was already fixing itself quite well. Some days spent in the others' presence should cause everything to fall into place. That thought brought a certain amount of smugness to the gold mech as they traveled. He stayed as close to his brother's side as he could without causing issues in maneuverability, his body language exuding protectiveness even in his vehicle mode.
As they pulled up for the squishy to get in, Sunstreaker winced at the grinding noise Sideswipe's door caused. Primus, he really was in bad shape. It made him want to hit him for getting himself damaged like this and hug him protectively for the next five vorns all at once. He waited patiently as the human crawled into his brother's alt mode, feeling like he may purge in sympathetic pangs of disgust. That disgust was compounded when Sideswipe's leaked through the bond, caused by whatever he had rolled over.
The golden twin scoffed, but, did as his brother asked and edged away slightly.
::Let's go,:: his voice was tinged with impatience as he led the way, preemptively transmitting a set of coordinates to Ratchet. While, yeah, they could make it, he wasn't going to let Sideswipe go through any more stress than he had, even if it was just driving.
As soon as the ground bridge opened, Sunstreaker would pull ahead, gunning his engine as he blasted through first. He would transform as soon as he hit the comm center, using the series of shifts to disperse the momentum he'd built up. Then, he would immediately, move aside for his brother's entry, still facing the room. His plating would stiffen, almost as though puffing out defensively, and his hard optics would glare at anyone present who wasn't Ratchet as his natural protective tendencies activated in the presence of other Cybertronians. Sideswipe was injured, which meant no one but a trusted medic was touching him. Sunstreaker would make sure of that.
If he hadn't just rolled through something nasty he'd have nudged his brother to try and soothe him. He'd be alright. Nothing could be that bad now that they were together again. At least it didn't hurt for him to open and close his doors, it just sounded bad. He was sure most of his problem was just from lack of proper maintenance and sustenance. Maybe a few dings and torn plates from his less than graceful entry into this planet's atmosphere. At least the train hadn't hit him like it had his pod. Given the size difference, he was sure it have killed him.
It made Sideswipe grin internally to hear Ratchet's commentary over the squishy's comms. He couldn't wait to see the medic's face when he came rolling through the ground bridge. If he didn't kill him on sight for tangling with the train, that is. But, Ratchet meant repairs, and that meant an end to the pains and twinges that rolled through him if he moved wrong. So, it was time to go.
"Buckle in squishy, and pardon my mess." He transmitted his voice through the speakers once Dylan climbed into his passenger seat. Once he had his passenger settled he'd follow his twin through the ground bridge at a far more sedate pace. He didn't have the energy for the same speed Sunstreaker had used, and he didn't want to hear it from Ratchet for pushing himself when he was damaged like this.
As soon as he made it to the other side he popped his door to let Dylan out. "Heya Ratchet!" He chirped out, still transmitting from his speakers. He was aware he probably looked a sight, and the sound the hinges of his door made when he opened or shut them weren't normal. But again, he felt fairly fine, all things considered. He was, however, stuck in this form. "So....I'd transform and greet everyone, but I'm really stuck like this. I managed to get into this form but something gave right after." Most likely the gunk in his systems finally melted his transformation cog. "And this little squishy Dylan-person was kind enough to call for a pick up. We'd have made it ourselves, eventually, but this was faster." He remained chipper despite it all, relaxing visibly now that he was somewhere he knew they'd be safe. Sunstreaker wouldn't let anything happen to him, and Ratchet was the best medic he knew.
Sideswipe was painfully tired, feeling the effects finally of prolonged energon depletion and separation from his other half. He wanted to just curl up and recharge for awhile, preferably with his brother. But that would have to wait until repairs were complete. No way was he allowing Sunstreaker to feel his pain, because that was unacceptable. His pain was his own, and letting his twin feel it wouldn't help at all. He had to protect him, even if it was from the proper functions of their twinned sparks. It wasn't life threatening, he didn't think, but he did hurt.
He vented, shifting to internal comms at the aggression he saw from his twin. ::I'll be okay, Sunshine. Try not to kill anyone, alright?:: He felt his spark actually coo a little, trying to do what it did best with he and his brother; find balance. Protective was fine, perfect for them, he just didn't want Sunstreaker pulled to the brig for attacking someone who was just trying to help.
As soon as Dylan was in Sideswipe he went on comm to reply to Ratchet.
“Hard to tell, we’re on our way. But he looks pretty beat to all hell, bro.” As soon as he’d finished he decided to reply to Sideswipe as he buckled in, knowing that he was not doing so hot. So hardly about to complain. “Don’t worry, man. I’m just glad I didn’t turn around. You’re even worse off than I expected.” He admitted.
The drive into the space bridge was of course uneventful.
But as soon as they arrived, he was quick and careful to climb out of the damaged mech. Dylan cringed as the mech explained he was stuck in alt mode. But at the same time, he knew that if anyone could help him it was Ratchet. As he mentioned him being nice Dylan gave a hand wave, definitely thinking nothing of it. “Hey, as a fellow prankster we gotta stick together, right?” He asked jokingly. “Speaking of sorry for the surprise big bro. But I didn’t want to hear your screams over my comm, so... Surprise?”
He definitely hoped that he wasn’t about to get screamed at... But still.
Ratchet stood by, watching and waiting for Dylan and the injured mech to come through the ground bridge. To be honest, he wasn't sure what it was he'd been expecting, but when he finally saw who did?
...The loudest internal screaming echoed throughout Ratchet's processor.
Sunstreaker being here by himself? He could possibly handle. Sunstreaker here with his twin brother? Oh Primus help them all. The medic stood there with his mouth wide open, words failing him as a mix of anger, shock, and a mild amount of concern written on his faceplate.
Just what he needed. These two pit spawn raising hell around the base.
An optic twitched as he pointed at Sideswipe, frustrations growing a bit as he fought back an urge to grab the nearest wrench and just chuck it at the twins for old times sake. "Medbay. Now." It was all he could manage as he worked through his emotions and find the right words to even say. Though to be honest, there was a part of him that was happy to see the lambo twins. They were safe and together, but it was only a matter of time before they were back to their old habits once more.
Sunstreaker opted out of participating in verbal conversation like a normal mech might, providing further information, even telling Dylan to get the slag away now that he'd had his ride. Instead, he maintained his protective vigilance, gladiator coding hovering threateningly on the edge of his processor. Sideswipe was in a bad state, which meant any perceived threat would be eliminated with extreme prejudice.
He shot Sideswipe look when his brother spoke to him, the infamous 'don't try to calm me the frag down' stare. For any other bot,, this might have been a fearsome look. But, with his brother as its intended target, it lacked any bite. His plating smoothed again, and he seemed to deflate a little.
The expression on Ratchet's face relaxed him further. A tiny smirk pulled at his lip components. He'd almost missed that tone. It was a reminder of the old days when he and Sideswipe had served as the resident hellraisers.
When Sideswipe moved, he would fall into step behind his brother, pedes thudding heavily on the ground and narrowed optics making it clear that everyone had better stay the hell away for now.
He was a little out of it honestly, once they'd cleared the bridge and Ratchet started barking orders at him. Though the medic's face was priceless he couldn't find the energy to do anything but obey when ordered to the bay. Which was unusual for him. Usually he gave the other mech a hard time when he was damaged, but this was entirely different. He'd have to do something epic later to make sure Ratchet didn't feel slighted for a less than typical greeting from him, but it'd keep for now.
"Yes sir." He offered it almost meekly and rolled along in silence. "For the record, since I'm sure a certain Dylan told you already, I wasn't trying to be hit by the train. And it didn't really hit me, more my pod. Which...might need to clean that up at some point." And he was rambling. Fantastic.
It occurred to him that he should probably say something to the squishy, and vented where he was. "Thanks for the help, Dylan." He offered it in a very muted tone, but at least he'd said it. He'd find him again later and take him out on a real drive as proper thanks when he was feeling better.
He did try his best to keep an eye on Sunstreaker. Not much he could do stuck in his altmode, but at least he could try and discourage him should he go all gladiator on someone. Which would actually be funny to see, if it wasn't because he was so damaged as to be unable to function normally. So maybe this time Sunstreaker was right to be so protective.
He decided to take a step back from the situation now. Because like hell he was going to meet the annoyed end of Ratchet about this - yet. He was sure he wouldn’t hear the end of it later on. So, picking up his skateboard again, he merely gave a small grin in response. “Don’t mention it. Just uh... Good Luck and feel better!” He explained, placing the skateboard into a position he could head off. “I better go call my friend Anton before he wonders where I ran off to.” He snorted.
Ratchet grumbled, putting a servo to his faceplate and pinching the space between his optics. He could not believe this.. First Dylan, and now the 'wonder twins' as it were were back and already stirring trouble. Admittedly, this time it wasn't entirely their fault, but now he had to fix up Sideswipe.
Again.
"Looking forward to this conversation with Agent Fowler.. He's going to be ecstatic to hear about this one!"
Throwing his arms up in the air exasperatedly, Ratchet walked over to the medical bay, making sure that twins actually made it there and that everyone else stayed out of the way. He didn't mind if Dylan tagged along since he was the one that found them anyway, but otherwise he had a job to get done.. and he wasn't happy about it at all.
"Of course you would crash land where there's a vehicle coming. Naturally you would because you all have to do everything 'in style'. There's no such thing as crash landing with style!" The medic sighed to himself, grabbing his tools before turning back to Sideswipe and Sunstreaker. Maybe he was being a bit hard on the duo. "..I'm just glad that the damage isn't worse than it is. Now stay still so I can try and get you out of your vehicle mode, Sideswipe."
