Silentsky had been on a routine recon patrol, no real destination in mind other than taking some time away from the craziness of the Nemesis.
But, the one thing the Seeker wasn't expecting was her radar to detect a distress signal close to the area she was presently soaring over. A Decepticon distress beacon in fact. "Hmm." It was rather random to come across such a beacon out of no where, almost right in the middle of no where. An Autobot trick perhaps? It seemed unlikely, but even the Autobots would take a gamble that a Decepticon could be passing through by chance.
Deciding to take a risk, Silentsky veered off her intended patrol route and directed herself towards the signal, her cloaking field activating to lessen the chance of being spotted right away. Flying lower though revealed the ground covered in a blanket of snow, making Silentsky silently curse under her breathe at the loss of stealth. Between the trees which would limited her capability to hover around and the snow which would crunch under her weight and reveal her anyway, she would have to go on a hope she wasn't landing straight into a trap.
Cloaking field falling away, the purple femme carefully landed, drawing her staff as a precaution and activating its trident state, optics scanning the environment for signs of the distressed Decepticon.
Mechanically speaking, it wasn't possible for Spacewarp to furrow her brow any harder.
And yet, to spite Primus, she tried.
The little Seeker was unarmed and armorless, hauling said armor through the snow with her bare servos. Her initial plan to tie it up in a net built with plant-fibers had fallen through, on account of the local foliage mostly sucking. Without the usage of her motion-assist servos, pulling what was essentially a burnt out shell through the forest was difficult, to say the least.
The feeling of humiliation, and spite, was all that propelled her forward at this point.
Could she actually pull the useless frame all the way back to the Nemesis? No. But, there wasn't a chance she'd ever abandon it. Odds were she'd never get another one. Spacewarp had already set her distress beacon up, and had been carrying it with her. There wasn't too big of a reason to actually try to go mobile with the thing, but if Spacewarp didn't have some basic physical activity to focus her energy on, she quite literally would explode. With tiny anger.
To think that somebody had not only gotten the drop on her, but destroyed her armor in the process...
"Frag me..." she said aloud, unaware of the recent arrival of a particular stealth-jet.
Silentsky turned her head slightly as she heard the telling signs she was in fact not alone, her sensors picking up the mobile distress signal nearby. And from the sounds of it, someone was dragging something rather larger through the snow and foliage. Well, perhaps her suspicions were wrong after all, but the recon agent was still careful as she moved towards the source of the sound.
Though, it was rather difficult to put the stealth in stealth-jet with the snow, having to be as light on her feet as she could be to lessen the sound of the snow crunching beneath her feet.
As she came right on top of the beacon's origin, Silentsky was surprised to see who it belonged to, much less the sight she came across. It was Spacewarp of all people, and outside her armor which she would have never imagined would have happened so easily. The silent observer shifted her gaze towards the armor which...had seen better days. Several questions came to mind, but so did concern as Silentsky put her weapon away and finally stepped out from the trees.
"Spacewarp." Her voice was soft but audible as usual when it came to Spacewarp, the only individual who had broken down much of Silentsky's walls and managed to bring out a side of herself she rarely displayed. But in this moment, she hadn't hesitated to show her full face, visor and face mask retracted to reveal a concerned expression from the younger femme.
Although it wasn't a loud or alarming sound, hearing her name half-whispered like that was still enough to startle Spacewarp; but in a good way. The little Decepticon briefly released her grip on the armor, sending her into the snow. She held her position as she searched the area, gaze locking onto Silentsky once she picked her out. Truthfully speaking, there wasn't anybody that Spacewarp would rather have answer her distress beacon. She wouldn't have tolerated being so vulnerable in anyone's presence but her's.
"Silentsky," she spoke, still relaxing on the snow. Spacewarp quickly jolted back up, remembering just how limber she was without the extra equipment. "I didn't think your patrol crossed this sector, otherwise..."
It was still some getting use to that anyone tolerated her usual low voice, something of which Silentsky rarely used above a whisper. But with Spacewarp her voice had been a normal tone before when they had shared drinks and the slight, well maybe more than slight, fiasco of a talk they had when meeting Skyhook.
"Sorry, haven't broken that habit." She apologized as she approached, her emerald optics scanning over Spacewarp's small frame as if searching for signs of injury. For the moment she saw no visible damage, if any, to the smaller femme which was a relief. Given the state of the armor she had been worried Spacewarp herself was worse for wear; a suit of armor was simply that, but there was no replacing the bot within that she cared deeply about. "And I change my route every so often, guess its fortunate for us both I happened to do so today." She told her, voice gradually taking on a more normal tone.
A faint smile came to her lips however, "Same. We haven't gotten to talk in a while, but..." Her optics briefly shifted towards the damaged armor and back to the small femme in front of her, "Are you alright? What happened here?" She finally asked, wanting to confirm for certain Spacewarp was alright and hopefully discover the cause of her present predicament.
Spacewarp's optics perked up as her brow re-furrowed itself, recounting the events of the past few hours. A frustrated sigh escaped her lips as the little Decepticon adorably folded her arms across her chest, pouting. She gently turned her head away from Silentsky for a moment, somewhat embarrassed. "I was out with the rest of my patrol when we picked up a sensor contact, so we adjusted course to pursue. It was a stealth fighter, sort of like you. We chased her through the valley until a second contact appeared..."
With a degree of friction, she turned back to look Silent in the optics. "I shot the first contact down, but by the time I'd landed to deal with her, her friend had cut down both of my wingmen."
"As in literally. With a sword. In mid-air."
Spacewarp took a breath to compose herself.
"Right as I was about to dispatch the first contact, the second shoves a sword through my arm, and my cannon misfires, hence..." she paused, stretching her arm to motion toward the current state of her armor.
"And then they just... left me here, alone...." Spacewarp concluded, dejectedly.
Silentsky listened quietly as Spacewarp recounted what had happened to her that day, having to stop herself from wanting to find her crossed arms and pouting expression to be adorable. Now wasn’t the time for that. Instead, she focused on each bit of detail, wondering who exactly these contacts had been, especially someone so easily dispatching not just Spacewarp’s wingmen but also her.
Given what she had learned about the former captain, it surprised Silentsky someone had gotten the drop on the older femme so easily, enough to even destroy her armor. It took some skill to do all the above from the air, some of which the Seeker femme struggled with herself.
“So you got soundly defeated, and your armor destroyed.” She summarized as she approached the dejected little bot, shaking her head slightly as she knelt in the snow in front of the smaller seeker. “They may have left you here alone, but I would rather your armor damaged and you being alive and able to use a distress beacon for help than finding you and your armor destroyed later on.” Silentsky pointed out the brighter side to the situation, embracing Spacewarp somewhat tightly and letting out a sigh of relief just to see her functional at all.
“You’re far too adorable to be so dejected over a couple of bots you don’t know.” She chuckled softly, before becoming thoughtful as she peered down at the femme, becoming somewhat shy as she added, “And far too important to me to be rejoining the Allspark yet.”
"Hrrnnnmmmm..." Spacewarp grumbled as Silent summarized her admission. She was a witness to the whole affair, but it wasn't very comforting to have it recounted to her again. Luckily, Silentsky's approach was enough to soften her tough exterior, and the little femme's face defrosted in turn. She had already begun to lean into the other Seeker by the time her arms closed, feeling safe for the first time in a while. "Yeah, I know..."
She blushed genuinely at being called adorable, a response to the cognitive dissonance of her telling herself that she was not cute, but deadly. "I know, but they're the only ones to actually destroy my..."
Zip.
Spacewarp's lament was replaced by a very soft satisfaction, and a bit of wonder. The little Seeker simply resigned herself to being held like the little action figure she was. It was especially lucky for the two punks who'd done this to her, as Silentsky was performing the once-thought-impossible task of diverting Spacewarp's energy away from vengeance.
"Mm." A small, pleased noise escaped her vocoder.
"I hate that this is what it takes to get us together, even for a little while. I missed you, Silent," she spoke softly.
“The only ones to destroy your armor, I get that.” Silentsky finished, lingering with the embrace feeling the tension ebb away in Spacewarp’s frame. She could tell her fellow seeker undoubtedly wanted revenge, imagining armor like Spacewarp’s was not so easily fixed, if at all. After all it had been the other dimensional seeker’s pride and joy, her place of feeling safe and powerful without having to reveal her true self.
It was a physical manifestation of the very walls Silentsky herself had put up around herself, and to have that destroyed couldn’t be easy.
Though Spacewarp’s next words couldn’t have been more true, hitting a little too close to the guilt Silentsky had been feeling since their last talk. Everything had been going rather well at the time, and somehow Spacewarp had little by little torn down the shyness in her and the need to be unseen except when she was needed. But that fiasco had nearly set everything back, aside from how she felt about the former captain. No, those feelings remained regardless of how the younger Seeker had felt at the time, but had to admit avoidance hadn’t exactly helped that either.
“I know.” She finally conceded, loosening the embrace to sit beside the smaller seeker, frame shuddering from the brief coldness making contact before she relaxed. “I’ve missed you too, Spacewarp. But I’ve been so guilt-ridden for how I made you and Skyhook feel a little while ago, I didn’t know how to approach you without worrying about what the news might have caused, or who might have heard it.” That was perhaps the other thing Silentsky had been concerned about, her own safety and the safety of the two time displaced Decepticons.
Speaking ill of their commanding officers, especially the likes of Megatron, could be punishable by death if he deemed it so. The only precaution she had thought to take was keep herself from the two femmes, which had hurt more than Silentsky had been willing to admit to herself until now, hanging her head shamefully for isolating herself from Spacewarp, “I suppose that was stupid of me to avoid you for as long as I did, especially with how I feel about you. I’m deeply sorry for that Spacewarp, and hope our meetings can be far more pleasant than this from now on.”
Spacewarp took a few steps back, hopping up on the shoulder of her armor, having a sit next to Silentsky. Despite everything that had happened lately, she knew that progress had been made due to how open Silent was being. Not hiding behind a stealth field, or behind Spacewarp; she'd definitely made some improvements. Spacewarp was uncharacteristically quiet, and deeply invested in Silent's explanations, as evidenced in how she was leaning forward at a noticeable tilt.
Once everything had been said, Spacewarp pulled her legs up to sit cross-legged. "You don't have anything to feel guilty about. I get it, believe me."
"And I hope so too..."
Spacewarp sat quietly for several moments, lost in thought. A glance was spared to the heap of armor beneath her. Wordlessly, the little femme stood up, and marched her way over toward the top of the suit. She reached into what used to be her head, apparently fumbling around for a switch it seemed. Click. Spacewarp hurried off of the frame, skidding in the snow to spin around and watch. With a bright flash the suit of armor began to heat up and disintegrate, until it was a pile of molten slag staining the snow.
She watched silently as her literal-and-metaphorical suit of armor vaporized before her optics.
The Seeker looked up. "I... uh. I wanted... to try something with you, which is why I just," she motioned to the pile of molten metal, "Did that."
Somehow, Spacewarp seemed to hang on her every word, listening without a peep or thought to interrupt. Silentsky was surprised she listened with such intent, the only sign of movement being her slight tilt forward as she made herself a seat on the shoulder of her damaged armor.
In a way, it was quite odd for Silentsky to be the one talking and someone else listening rather than the opposite way. She had always been the silent observer, the quiet listener, content to get the information or hear it rather than explain it. Speaking out or voicing her concerns had always made her uncomfortable, feeling uncharacteristically...satisfied perhaps? Relieved? Either way, she felt that pressure of guilt and awkwardness fade away once she had all her feelings on the matter laid out before the little yellow seeker, her frame visibly less tense than before.
“Hm, easier said than done.” She murmured, taking the long silence that fell between them to consider those words. Maybe she was just use to keeping her feelings and words to herself, that was why it felt so difficult until now to approach Spacewarp about how she felt or to apologize. Yet, the former captain found it in her spark not to be furious or upset with her, merely missing her as Silentsky had.
Raising an optic ridge curiously, Silentsky pushed herself to a kneeling position once again, watching as Spacewarp fumbled with something in her armor. Quizzically, she watched as the little seeker backed away from the armor, squinting her optics briefly against the bright light as the armor heated up and seconds later was molten slag on the ground. All the remained was a stain against the once unblemished white on the ground, making the snow now appear charred and burned.
Confused and shocked at such an action, Silentsky returned her gaze towards her companion, “Must be something pretty important to let that disintegrate into nothing Spacewarp.” She commented, shifting her position so Spacewarp had her full attention, “What’s going on?”
Spacewarp watched it burn. She burned it for two reasons, one more literal than the next. Firstly, she could assemble a new set of armor back aboard the Nemesis given time, and she would be damned if the Autobots had found it just sitting here. But secondly, it was to return the favor. Silentsky had made good on her efforts to find her voice around Spacewarp, and in a sense, had discarded her own suit of armor in turn.
It was just that Spacewarp's suit of armor was far more literal.
She had used it to hide away from being perceived as weak, too emotional, too hotheaded. Too caring. Silent of all people didn't deserve to have that wall put up in front of her. So, she tore the wall down.
Spacewarp looked up to Silent as a new femme, her optics shimmering, her expression full of hope and promise. The little Seeker simply stood there, looking straight up at Silent.
"I can make a new suit for whenever I head into battle. But I don't want the suit to be the only thing you see when you look... at me."
Internally, Spacewarp was wondering where all this confident poetry was stemming from. But she knew.
The way Spacewarp looked at her, optics shimmering and expression full of hope and promise, spoke volumes before she spoke. The purple femme glanced from the smaller seeker to what remained of the armor and back again, a smile faintly showing on her lips as she understood the reason. This was Spacewarp breaking down her own walls, expressing her own growth without needing to say so.
“I see that.” Silentsky told her, reaching over and laying a gentle hand on the small femme’s cheek, optics brightening expressing her joy at their progression. “But I guess I can thank that unexpected run in with said armor that led me to meet the incredibly adorable femme behind it.” As she spoke, Silentsky leaned down to kiss Spacewarp’s forehead affectionately, this time at least sober and fully aware of what she was doing.
Somehow, Spacewarp had had an affect on her life, a quite pleasant and positive impact Silentsky never would have imagined. Before that fated literal run in with the older Decepticon, she would have been fine to continue her life from the shadows and being a solo act, never being concerned for exposing her emotions or looking weak. It had been what allowed her to survive this long into the war, but now she could slowly reveal the part of herself she had buried long after she had lost those she cared about most.
“I would be honored to fly with you again Spacewarp, the real you.” She told her as she stood up finally, “Hopefully, it goes better than our first flight together.” She chuckled softly.
It was this infectious feeling in her frame, the sweetness that could rust her denta, and the warmth that could cool her spark; this was why she'd closed herself off. Only now did the memory of all that stress hit her, but as an echo without the source. Yes. This was better, she thought. It felt good to be small again, if only around Silentsky. Primus help whoever saw her like this in the wild. Except perhaps Skyhook.
A healthy chunk of her decision making process felt she needed to reach up to Silentsky for a little bit more, but the mental image of what that would actually look like prevented her from acting. It was a sweet kiss, all the same. Spacewarp couldn't remember the last time she'd been dubbed adorable, much less incredibly adorable. She did her best to bite back the smile, fruitlessly.
"Truth be told, I haven't flown as just myself in... I don't even know how long," she replied, a small pair of wings springing forth from her back. "Just... if I start to look like a flight school rookie," Saying this, Spacewarp bounced up to try her own attempt at a kiss, managing to land one on Silent's cheek, "Please catch me."
