First Aid's optics brightened and widened with surprise. Ratchet wanted to teach him? Him?? First Aid was quiet for a beat too long as he digested this information.

"Yes!" he finally said. "I would love that. I would really be honored if you would teach me. Thank you!"

... Oh. First Aid was probably being a little over-excited. Whoops...

First Aid

It had come as a fair surprise that First Aid had been so surprised by the sudden offer. Ratchet just couldn't refuse to offer it to him, especially now that he knew that he hadn't gone to a medical facility to learn the trade in an advanced form. He wasn't having it, and he was going to make sure that this little guy got the education he so deserved, especially being a field medic as it was.

"Careful, now. You're going to hurt yourself with all that excitement. I'll warn you that I might be strict in my teachings, but I'll be sure to teach you everything I've ever learned."

Regardless, the young medic was quick to take up the offer, which only made the elder happy in return. He knew he could do this, and Pharma would always be willing to assist him if he absolutely needed it, or as a substitute in the event Wheeljack wanted to take him on a short vacation somewhere. With more medics, it was becoming much more doable.

"I'm happy to have you here, First Aid. I may not be able to give you the official ceremonies that we had back in the day, I'll be sure that you get the entire experience otherwise."

First Aid nodded eagerly. Strict was fine. He was used to strict, from his past commanding officers or other higher ups.

"I don't need the ceremonies. I get shy about attention placed on me anyway." First Aid would likely balk at having eyes turned on him. "Thank you!"

Thankfully First Aid didn't seem to mind the lack of ceremonies, and actually preferred to skip them due to not wanting to have attention placed on him like that. It was something that Ratchet could understand, and wouldn't pressure him into doing something he didn't feel comfortable with. "It's quite alright. I'll respect your wishes in regards to any kind of ceremony. I do, however, want to make something for you once we complete your training.. as a sort of memento for all your efforts. Back in the day, we would get our own laser scalpels upon graduation. I have mine from Pharma built into my arm."

First Aid's thanks initially caught him by surprise, the elder medic relaxing after a brief moment. "You don't need to thank me. Just promise to give it everything you have." Once more he looked at his scans, not having forgotten that he was giving the younger mech a check-up at the very same time. "I'm not detecting any additional damage, so it's just a matter of fixing up any cosmetic damages and bruising's now."

Ratchet leaned over, grabbing some supplies in order to help with the minor injuries. "I should probably ask you, and it's fine if the answer is a negative one, but how much combat experience do you have? I only ask as sometimes medics are on the battlefield and have to fend for themselves if someone isn't close by."

First Aid nodded. That worked for him. He would still probably be flustered and shy, but he wouldn't be so taken off-guard by a lot of people watching him that he would freeze up.

"I promise, I'll do my best."

First Aid then rubbed the back of his neck.

"I have some self-defense training. I had some self-defense weapons, like a stun gun, smoke bomb, taser, and light grenade but... They were either damaged or lost when I collided here."

Even if First Aid got all super shy over people watching him, Ratchet would be at his side, comforting him and reassuring him as he did whatever it was he would need to do at the time. He found that it helped at times, but it only helped some more than others. He had no way of knowing which one of those kinds First Aid was.

"That's all I could ever ask is that you do your best. You already have the basics down, actually.. a bit more than the basics from what I can tell. You're already one step ahead."

Ratchet listened to the younger medic as he applied some mesh bandages and cleaned up some of the light wounds. Some combat training was good, but it seemed that he didn't have any of his gear.. having been destroyed or simply lost all together. It was a tiny bit troubling, but nothing that the elder medic couldn't handle. First Aid was safe at the base, and he could get what he needed here.

"I'll tell you what, kid.. I can take a look at what's been damaged and do my best to repair it. As for the rest.. I can show you the techniques I know on the battle field. It may not be much, but you never know when you'll need it to keep yourself alive out there when everyone else is busy."

"I've been a field medic for awhile. But my specialty is doing repairs during the heat of a battle and in a high-stress environment. I haven't had a lot of experience working inside a medbay where the injuries aren't so life-threatening."

First Aid could definitely make it by, as he did know how to fix non dangerous injuries. But it was still odd not to be out on the field.

"Really? Ratchet, that would be fantastic!"

The younger medic has more experience on the battlefield as a medic than he had in an actual medical bay? Talk about learning things backwards, but it only made Ratchet feel worse for him. First Aid should have had that chance to learn at a medical facility, and he never should have had to learn primarily on the battlefield.

"If that's the case, then training you shouldn't be too difficult then. You'll find that it's much more calmer in a medical bay, although not always. At least you won't have someone shooting at you. It'd definitely a benefit."

Ratchet had faith in First Aid, and looked forward to their first session together. He'd make sure the kid got everything he needed to learn, and maybe one day.. he could become the next chief medical officer. It was a position the elder mech didn't want to throw at him until he knew he was ready, but all things would come in due time.

"We can take a look at them later. For now let's just focus on getting you rested and recovered from your long journey. Just one thing at a time for now. After all, you've been through a lot recently, and I just want to give you a chance to unwind first. You've earned that much."

First Aid huffed out a laugh. Yes, that was a benefit. At least things would be more relaxed (hopefully).

"I definitely appreciate the change of pace."

First Aid nodded, his visor dimming. He was pretty tired and ready for a chance to rest.

"Thank you, Ratchet."

At least First Aid got a good laugh of it. The poor kid was likely in need of one, and the fact that Ratchet's personal brand of snark was able to lift his spirits a bit brought a soft smile to his face.

"I'm not saying that it's always pretty, but it's most certainly easier. Honestly.. I wish I could help more on the battle field, but things don't always work the way we want it to. With more medics, healthcare on the field will certainly be easier."

It had been a long day, and the junior medic was showing signs of needing recharge. Ratchet got up, looking directly at the youngster. "You're welcome, First Aid. You get some rest, and get all the rest you need. I'll bring you some Energon when you wake and then I can show you around the base."
