Silent Sky evaded him. It was of little consequence. His goal was merely to prevent her from forcing him to draw his blade. If she intended to remain on the defensive, that would not happen any time soon. His optics narrowed as she seemed to vanish before them. “Well, well,” he uttered. Cloaking. She seemed to think that might win her the battle. It would not be that easy.
Offlining his optics, Cyclonus returned to his normal stance, focusing entirely on his surroundings. The power diverted from his optical sensors he sent to the auditory ones to boost their performance. Listening. Her thrusters, which would have given others away, made no sound, but her attack would.
Registering the slightest of sounds to his left, Cyclonus did not immediately move. Not until he could discern the nature of her attack. She was close. If it were a blaster, he would have only a moment to react. But this, this was something thrown. The spear she carried earlier if he were to judge. And something else. The sizzle of energon?
His body reacted. Something scraped the side of his helmet as he wove to the side, but as it did, he seized it. Whirling about, spinning in a tight circle so as to bolster the momentum of the spear, he slung it back in the direction it had originated from, his optics flashing crimson as they onlined once more.
The moment her spear staff had left her grip, that she was sure her throw was where she wanted it to go Silent Sky was already planning her next move. Even if the older Cybertronian detected where her attack was coming from the throw would have given her away already. In fact, by now, she had already started to figure she had to be a bit more ahead in her thinking and planning with Cyclonus, especially with his experience. Her sound-dampeners saved her from being detected like most Seekers and fliers would, but it did not prevent her joints from giving off noise and why she tried not to entirely rely on the stealth capabilities.
Silent Sky had moved from her spot by then, knowing she was risking the loss of one of her most important weapons as a close quarters combatant. But she often made that sacrifice for the sake of other strategies. While Cyclonus was focused on taking the spear and returning it back from it’s point of origin Silent Sky had made an effort to move behind Cyclonus, watching his movement, where he faced, anticipating the opening. And the moment she saw it, the Seeker femme took it.
Retaining her position behind the older flier while cloaked, Silent Sky flew forward swiftly as her thrusters would allow with such a short distance while shifting the part of her right arm that caused her secondary Photon Blaster to be ready. Her first aim was kicking his upper back with all the force she was throwing into flying toward him with her blasters aimed downward to follow through, likewise firing at his back. And across from them both, her staff had embedded itself into the wall, energon sizzling faintly among the noise of their spar.
Something collided with his back. No, not something. Silent Sky. She had taken the initiative, had she? Cyclonus threw himself forward instead of resisting, managing to evade the following blaster shots by doing so. He whirled around in moments. His thrusters fired up – the first he’d used them thus far – and flung him forward. Knitting his digits together, he raised them over his head as he kicked off of the floor.
Bringing his clenched fists down on where he surmised Silent Sky to be, Cyclonus issued a terse grunt merely with the effort of the movement.
Surprisingly, Cyclonus found that he was enjoying himself. He had considered drawing his blade a few times, but ultimately had relented, due to the nature of the challenge. He would not hesitate to draw it in such a circumstance that he required it, but he refrained from using it to gain an edge.
Cyclonus certainly didn’t disappoint. He used the kick to propel himself forward and avoiding her blaster fire with little effort. The movement was quick and there was no hesitation for Cyclonus to make his own counter attack to her own. Silent Sky didn’t have the time to move like she had before, where her weapon left her seconds after being thrown and she could move at a moment’s notice. But this was much different. This was an experienced, seasoned opponent still taking advantage of momentum and using it.
His laced, clenched hands met their mark, colliding with something unseen but solid and causing a pained noise to escape Silent Sky from the collision. Her cloaking field vanished and she felt disorientation strike her for long enough to lose mental commands on her thrusters and collapsing to the floor. Even in her disoriented state though, Silent Sky didn’t want to leave herself utterly vulnerable as she tried to keep some focus on her opponent, one arm raising as she fell and firing several shots in the direction she had last seen Cyclonus.
And by now, the wound he had left on her shoulder when she allowed the run through had started trickling a small, thin trail down along a few seems on her left side. It wasn’t utterly deep since he didn’t put his full force behind it, but it had been enough to graze an energon line, though nothing life threatening. Silent Sky’s wound throbbed from her movements but she had for the most part relatively ignored it.
Ah-ha. So there she was. Cyclonus had struck true, much to his pleasure. If the setting had been different, he might have had more options to deal with the cloaking. Creating a smokescreen that blinded her as well as himself not only leveled the playing field, but Silent Sky’s movements would cause noticeable movement in the smokescreen itself. Of course, his other option, one less palatable to him, was to confine the number of angles that she could attack from, or alternatively draw out the battle so that she ran her power supply too low to maintain the cloak.
Silent Sky crumpled to the floor, which took Cyclonus aback for a moment. He might have gotten a touch too carried away. Before he could muster any sort of response, she held up her arm and fired upon him once more. Grunting, he drew his blade reflexively, deflecting a few of the shots while others indeed hit their marks.
Energon leaked lightly from the marks where the blaster had gotten him at close range. How could they not? And she had managed to make him draw his blade. Cyclonus assumed a wholly different stance with the great sword in hand, calling out to her. “Well done, you have claimed victory. Do you wish to continue?”
After a minute or two of getting her bearings, Silent Sky finally picked herself up while shaking her head to shake off some lingering disorientation. In any other fight she probably would have forced herself to move, but it would have been rather ungraceful and still left her open for further attack. But seeming as this was a training session she had some leeway to be able to recover and plan her next move if necessary.
But hearing Cyclonus speak, Silent Sky paused as she turned to the purple mech to hear what he said. It surprised her that her last attack had accomplished just what she had been trying to do, he had drawn his sword but she noted some of the leaking energon which filled her with some satisfaction. As she had predicted, neither one of them was leaving without some kind of wound but she kept this emotion to herself as she gave a curt nod. Though she also contemplated continuing, strolling to where her spear staff remained embedded in the wall before yanking it free. She had gone through all this trouble to make Cyclonus draw his weapon, it would feel as if it had been all for nothing if they didn't end with someone yielding to the other.
"It is but a small victory to make you draw your weapon sir." She said to him as she turned back to Cyclonus, retracting her visor to peer at the taller and larger flier with pale gold optics, "We should continue until one of us yields." She stated as she twisted her spear staff so the spear was facing away from Cyclonus and she pressed a second button. The staff retracted into itself up until about two feet and the thermo-energon trident had deactivated for the time being. Where the flat end of the staff was now projected a thermo-energon scimitar blade that hissed and sizzled with energy from its activation. And once active, she took a different stance of attack rather than defense, seeing the older Cybertronian had likewise changed his stance, and taking a quick moment to observe his sword.
It was not a design she had seen before but it seemed well crafted and durable, something fitting for someone such as Cyclonus. Now it was time to see what her superior could do with the sword, gripping her staff turned hilt tightly in her right hand as she charged forward at the horned purple flier.
“Ambitious, are we?” Cyclonus asked as the younger mech implored that they continued. She had retrieved her weapon from where it had been embedded in the wall. He allowed it. It was the beginning of the next round, after all. In actual combat, there were seldom reprieves like this. Nor would there be another in their bout after this one.
“Know this, I shall not yield to you,” he stated coldly. His optics narrowed. Her staff had transformed again. It seemed that she had many tricks. Tricks could fill the gap between skill in some cases, but this was not one of them.
He awaited her attack. It came shortly. A charge. As she neared the range of his blade, Cyclonus shifted, moving fluidly. He deflected the blade of her weapon with his own, the blade sliding along the side of the spear as he moved past her. He angled his sword to pierce her arm, using his momentum to propel the blade toward her.
Feeling the deflection, Silent Sky didn't hesitate to make her move as well. She felt and saw the blade coming towards her arm, reacting with moving herself towards the side to avoid the on-coming blade. Though she didn't stop there as she pivoted on her heel, holding the blade with both hands to swing it towards Cyclonus' side, having been some time since she had really made use of the sword of her spear staff.
"If giving you a rough time to make me yield to you counts as ambition sir, then by all means call it as such." Silent Sky spoke as she made her move. Perhaps she was a bit rusty in the use of the blade, but in time she felt she could get a feel for it again. She was use to just using the spear itself and the trident aspect of her weapon, it had been sometime since the Seeker femme could recall actually making a good use of her bladed weapon in combat. Whether it was real combat or just training, she welcomed to giving it a whirl again.
Having the blade on the side that Silent Sky sought to strike at helped diminish the time needed for him to react. He arced it downward sharply to guard against her strike, which rattled dully off of his own great sword. Her ambition seemed to be properly tempered. Cyclonus ought to give her more of the benefit of the doubt, but vanity was a common trait in seekers.
Planting his blade in the floor, Cyclonus used it as a pivot to swing his leg around in a kick toward her head. He used the thrusters on his feet to propel himself just that much faster. Her footwork was solid, but that much he knew already from their earlier match. Her skill with the blade was what was being put to the test now.
For every strike she had, Cyclonus always had a response, whether it was a counterattack or a way to defend himself he never missed a beat. Once their blades clashed, Silent Sky felt the dull vibrations travel to her own hands, solid thermal energon energy clashing against solid metal, which she could assume was Cybertronian metal. If anything, the Seeker femme made a note to inquire about the blade’s material in which it was forged from. That is, if he felt like answering her.
Once more though, Silent sky focused on their match. Cyclonus was going for a kick, causing Silent Sky to react automatically by shifting her blade to single-handed, aiming to block the strike with the sharp edge aimed at his leg, but wincing as she still felt some of the impact and the other side of the blade still grazing her head. But it did give her a chance to make her attack. The purple mech seemed to have his support slightly on his blade hilt and he probably would have to worry of keeping himself upright at the same time from her stopping most of the impact on the kick. Perhaps it was not the greatest opening, and Cyclonus could find one way or another to correct himself but it was still a chance to make her move.
Thrusters silently starting up once more, Silent Sky flew forward with her arm folded and elbow aimed right for the larger and older flier’s face. It probably wouldn’t do serious damage to Cyclonus overall, but her main aim was to try and disorient the more ancient Decepticon, to give her a slight advantage if possible.
Twisting his leg when he saw that she had brought the sharp edge of the blade, Cyclonus managed to avert the damage that he might have done himself while still delivering something of an impact. He immediately began to move again, one leg firmly planting itself back onto the floor as Silent Sky smashed her elbow into his face.
“Hrgh.”
Recoiling, Cyclonus jumped back, both to get some distance between them to recover and most effectively apply his blade. Weilding the blade with both hands, he swung it about in a swift, heavy, and lethal arc, pushing off of the floor in a front flip. His sword scraped a notch in the floor as he spun through the air. As he came out of the flip, the sword was brought down with shattering force where Silent Sky once was.
Silent Sky felt her elbow make it’s mark, and watched as Cyclonus recoiled from the strike. Perhaps she had been expecting a bit much for the old warrior. His position had seemed to be an awkward one and not the best position to exactly make a countermeasure, but it was enough to force the mech back to allow Silent Sky a chance to make a step or two away.
So far, they had been going blow for blow in their training session. Their injuries weren’t exactly serious and could be handled with some quick repairs and they always seemed to have something up their sleeves. Though, Silent Sky could certainly say Cyclonus was not an opponent she’d want as an enemy. He was skilled, calculating, and precise, someone who could be a force to be reckoned with, especially if they got on his bad side. At least, that was what the younger flier was getting from this. And just as she expected, Cyclonus was quick to recover and once more make his move, Silent Sky’s frame tensing as she expected him to charge.
This time was different. He went for a swift, lethal move instead that would bring that blade of his crashing down on her and cause far more than a simple scratch. Dodging was out of the question and her options were limited once more. Her immediate reaction then was swift an simple, clicking the lower button on the hilt to extend it once more to its spear staff configuration, she had a split second to move her left foot behind her while she raised the spear staff up to meet the oncoming blade. Striking home, Silent Sky let out a grunt of pain and surprise from the force that sent her recoiling and crumpling to her knees from the force of the strike and struggling to keep her spear staff in hand from the force.
She could feel the force of the collision travel up her arms, causing her to grimace slightly from the thought of being unable to stop such a blow. Her energy scimitar would have done little to shield her and she was pretty sure there had to be an indention in the staff’s handle that would have to be repaired after. But it was pretty clear what the decided outcome was in her processor, “I yield.” She spoke in an audible whisper and focusing her pale golden optics on the mech.
As his blade connected with Silent Sky’s staff, Cyclonus returned to himself a touch. He had not taken the blow to the face with the most grace, and it had shifted his attitude from patient to serious. He was pleased that the seeker had been able to stop his blow. The result otherwise would have been most unfortunate. She was a talent with humility. A rare quality in the ranks of seekers.
She yielded, and Cyclonus withdrew his blade, planting it firmly in the floor and resting both hands atop the hilt as he observed her.
“You fought well,” Cyclonus said, looking down at her with crimson optics. Offering a hand up to her, he chided himself yet again. He prided himself on discipline and that had just been a serious lapse. “You should be proud.”
When Cyclonus offered his hand, Silent Sky rested the flat end of her spear staff on the ground in her left hand and used her free hand to take his and standing with his aide. It certainly had been quite a training session and something Silent Sky would be sure to make note of what they had done this day, and some of the few inputs Cyclonus had given here and there. “I am sir, but also honored you would take time out of your day to train with me. It appeared I cut into your thoughts earlier and I apologize for that.” Silent Sky stated, giving a small bow of her head.
It seemed the polite thing to do. At the very least, the femme Seeker had some honor and valued a good battle, even if it was just a training session. “Perhaps we can train again another day, and if you are willing, offer more advice or training.” Silent Sky offered, her voice hinting of enjoying their match despite Cyclonus’ lapse in patience and if her mask had been retracted he would have seen the faint smile that had crossed her face plate.
But she gave a quick examination of her staff handle, seeing there was indeed an indent from the older flier’s blade but nothing that could be fixed. It was just another notch in the handle that had already seen many skirmishes and missions. “I believe there is much to learn from you, Cyclonus sir.”
“Think nothing of it,” he replied, waving dismissively, “This was quite refreshing.” Cyclonus considered the seeker, noting the deference and respect that she treated him with. He would be slagged if he let such talent rot in the hands of Starscream and his inept brood. Not when there was such potential within her.
“I would like that,” Cyclonus answered with a nod to Silent Sky’s offer of further sessions, “In fact, I would be glad to do this regularly with you. If you would have it. There is much I wish to teach you.”
Sheathing his sword, he watched her as she examined her own weapon. It was incredibly durable to withstand a swing from his rather hefty sword. Yet, one must take care of their weapons as one would their own life. For the two were often synonymous on the battlefield.
“Go attend to your weapon,” he said, dismissing her officially. He turned, moving back toward the view screen displaying an exterior view to review their session again mentally.
