Characters: Skystalker, Open to All Location: Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona Content Warnings: N/A Plot Summary: Skystalker decides to take a lazy day and is drawn to the Petrified Forest National Park badlands out of curiosity. But is the colorful desert the only thing he'll be seeing?
Having become bored hanging around the Autobot base, Skystalker decided to take a day to do something he did not often do for just fun: exploring the area. He had made some effort to look up interesting places in the neighboring states and had been drawn to what was known as the Painted Desert, which was connected to something known as the Petrified Forest. Now that sounded interesting. Having checked the coordinates of the location and double checking he wasn't needed, Skystalker soon left the base and flew to the neighboring state of Arizona where the national park lied.
From the sky, the colorful bands seen from along the steep sides of the plateaus and mountains down to the very sands of the badlands were mesmerizing. Skystalker had never seen such a sight before in his short life and indeed drew his curiosity to get a closer look. But first, he had to scan the area, making absolutely certain there were no signs of humans roaming around. Luckily with it being so late in the afternoon, it seemed rather unlikely, especially when it was also somewhat hot out with the sun bearing down below. Perfect opportunity to explore while he could and the dark to light blue Predacon was soon making his landing, flaring his wings before he landed in the rocky soil.
"Earth never ceases to amaze." Skystalker murmured to himself, admiring the work of millions of years of rain and wind that had created these natural structures and work of art of varying color bands. It was rather fascinating how much Earth could change within millions of years yet Cybertron did not seem to change much at all to his knowledge. Once more he could see why the Autobots were so hellbent on protecting this little backwater planet. It had its beauty and quirks that were hard to deny that brought the intrigue and imagination for those not of this world and the more logical side of Skystalker was eager to learn about it.
So, he did what any tourist would do, he began walking and looking. His glowing yellow optics tried to take in all the sights as he moved, leaving prints in the rocky grains of sand or small claw marks in the rock as he did. But his walk soon brought him to a more shrub covered spot, eyeing the petrified remains of trees that probably had once stood so tall and beautiful in their time. It almost struck a cord within Skystalker, only imagining if his kind had met such a fate when they were wiped out, another reason he was so interested in this world. He walked to the shrub-covered area and gingerly picked up part of the trunk of one of the trees that had once grown there, examining it and occasionally turning it in his claws.
So engrossed in examining the area, the Predacon failed to realize he wasn't quite as alone as he thought.
Zodiac flew over the desert. Nothing special, not mission in particular. It was just starting to get late in the afternoon and a nice long flight was exactly what she needed. As much as she disliked many, many aspects of Earth, the sky was never one of them. In the early hours of the day it was bright and beautiful, then it would transform into the dark cool nights she loved so much. At least this planet had some pros. just as she was thinking about heading back she picked up something on her radar. Another life form. Becoming increasingly interested in what this life form could be she debated on whether or not it would be wise to go along. No, I shouldn't. It isn't wise, She thought to herself. But a peek wouldn't hurt. Would it?
Becoming overcome with her own curiosity she turned toward the life signal and made her way towards it. She stopped and transformed a safe distance away and crouched behind a couple of desert rocks. She placed a servo on her pistol in case whatever this thing was decided to give her trouble. Slowly and carefully the femme took a peek. A predacon? She had heard of the fearsome beasts, but never had she seen one with her own optics. It was just a smaller than her, but it still had a bit of bulk. At least more than her tall lean figure did. It didn't seem to be doing anything in particular. Just looking at its surroundings similarly to how she had been doing.
She kept quiet and watched from afar careful to be extra silent. Perhaps this would lead her somewhere worth while. If not. Flying away was still an option.
Unaware of his company, Skystalker took a moment to examine the petrified trunk of what remained of the tree, carefully counting the circles in its middle. It seemed old...a hundred years at best but that's really all it told and he finally carefully placed it back down. Perhaps the only thing interesting really in this area were the fauna of old, now simply fossils as the humans called them and it made him wonder of there were any animal type fossils around there.
Giving a final glance around, missing Zodiac behind her hiding spot, the dragon-like mech finally trotted off towards the nearby mountains, leaving behind the shrub covered area. Honestly, he wasn't really looking to do much with being around there, only really enjoying the sights and some of the history said to have been here. In a way, he could really relate. There were times he held memories he could not recall, memories he could assume were from a life long gone of his predecessor, then there were other times he wasn't sure what he was seeing, but they were dreams that felt so real, like they had happened before.
Just as he was about to step around the corner of one of the low valleys, he quickly stopped in his tracks when spotting some humans. Optics wide, he quickly ducked back behind the corner, spark racing as he listened for signs they had spotted him but it seemed they continued on with their work. Slowly, he peeked around seeing equipment, containers, and tarp laid about, no doubt scientists looking into the fossils within the area or old soil samples. Lucky for him they had been too engrossed in their work to see a being from Cybertron's own past wandering about. "That was close." The mech muttered, having to wait for an opportunity to move.
Zodiac panicked as the predacon gave on last glance at around him before moving on to a different area. That could've been bad. Very bad. She shook head to rid herself of her worry quietly followed in pursuit. Stopping every now and again to seek cover. She watched the mech studing is face plate. He seemed to be getting very nostalgic of what she wasn't sure. But now that she was closer she could see more of his features. He seemed fairly young. Using her enhanced vision she zoomed in on him. She watched for a while until he came to and abrupt stop.
She too stopped and took cover. Once again she used her enhanced optic-sight to see what he was looking at. But she only saw humans. She scoffed slightly. To think a such a fearsome beast that could crush those humans with a swipe of his tail would stop for them. It was almost comical. She crouched down low and zoomed out her vision back to it's normal setting. What in the name of Lord Megatron was this thing doing?
Surely he wasn't alone out here? Perhaps this was a trap? Maybe he looking for something? Perhaps she should reveal herself now? No. Not yet that wasn't wise. But if she was found out she could always use the tiny little meat bags as leverage in battle. Zodiac squinted her optics in focus. She needed to plan this out right if she was going to learn anything about this creature.
Stay hidden. At least for now. Then strike later, when he lead you back to his home.
Skystalker kept his optics focused on the humans for a while longer, waiting and hoping they would leave. But minutes ticked by, and still they continued their work causing the Predacon to frown in thought for a moment. There was no use in waiting. By his luck, they would be there until day would turn into night and he wasn't exactly patient enough for that slag. Besides, this national park was big enough he could easily seek out other areas to quench his curiosity.
Stepping back far enough he didn't think his movements would cause a scene, Skystalker crouched and spread his wings before taking flight. He circled around to avoid the valley and casting his shadow, not wanting to accidentally reveal himself towards these scientists by some odd chance. He circled the area for a moment, finally spotting a slightly open crevasse, layers of different soil and rock giving that "rainbow" effect. "Promising." Skystalker said to himself as he dove down, scanning the area and smelling around finding any human scents were stale and long gone, giving him ample opportunity to land at last.
The crevasse itself didn't go very far, leaving him enclosed on one side and really only two ways to get out, behind him or taking flight. Transforming to his robot mode at last, Skystalker approached the multi-colored wall, spotting what appeared to be the lower jaw of a creature, possibly one of the ancient animals of the past. Couldn't hurt to take a souvenir of his own home right? "Who knew being a tourist could pay off?" He chuckled to himself, using the claws on the back of his hands to carve into the rock carefully to loosen up the fossil.
Zodiac growled as the beast flew to a new area, away from the humans. She watched as the predacon took flight to leave. She grew more and more impatient as the minutes went by. She pondered whether or not she should leave, stay put, or just confront him. She pondered this for a little while longer before finally coming to the conclusion that she was done waiting. She transformed and flew towards the were the predacon's new location. She seemed to be carving something out of a wall. She transformed a good distance away, not trying to be strealthy or subtle. she grabbed her pistols, one in each servo, and finally announced her presence.
"Greetings beast" She said out loud as she took her aim.
Her left servo aimed at his knee, her right at the joints where is back and wings met. She'd disable all his movements first, then she'd start asking questions.
At first Skystalker only paused, figuring he had heard the sound of a jet rather close by. Maybe he was just hearing echos though, after all there were several canyonsa around to cause it. So he would have dismissed it until the familiar sound of someone transforming made him stiffen and freeze. Now there was no mistaking that sound, but he wasn’t sure if they were friend or foe considering he wasn’t exactly a hard Cybertronian to miss to begin with.
Finally he whipped around at Zodiac’s words, optics narrowing when she was aiming towards him. “This beast can happily tear you limb from limb Decepticon.” Skystalker growled, more than annoyed his suppose to be quiet day was now turning into one of having to fight a faction he so loathed with all his being. Then again, he couldn’t really complain in seeing some form of action since he hadn’t really had a chance for a good fight since he had arrived there.
And while she was aiming, he wasn’t waiting. A low growl left the mech before he was flying upwards towards the seeker, intending to take her head on while his cryo-launcher disks were taking time to power up.
So the beast can speak Zodiac thought to herself as he whipped around to face her. She chuckled at his comment. Tear her limb from limb? As if the primitive beasts claws and wings were any match for her guns and thrusters. He seemed very annoyed at her presence. Perhaps the beast had a quite the bad experience with Cons in the past. He flew into the air obviously with the intention of taking her one on one, but Zodiac had other plans. She ran and slid underneath the predacon as he flew into the air and used her enhanced eye sight to zoom in on her target. She fired off a few rounds at his back, more specifically his wings. Everything seemed to move in slow motion as she slid and fired, the only thing that could be heard was the beating of her own spark. Almost like something out of a movie scene. Red hot adrenaline washed over her. Zodiac never felt much. But in the middle of combat was the only possible time where she felt any emotion. The only time she would feel alive.
Yes. I will bring him down first, She thought. Her face was emotionless but on the inside she was actually glad for the action for once. She was almost happy. Show me what you've got beast.
He missed her by some distance, and his momentum prevented him from immediately turning to try and attack once more right off the bat. Her shots struck home, causing Skystalker to growl and visibly wince from the shots, his wings not quite nearly as armored or durable as the rest of his body. He could easily be grounded if they were hit enough but they currently still functioned. For the time being. 'I have to be smarter with this one.' He thought as he finally corrected himself, flapping his wings behind him as he turned to her once more.
But he still had some tricks up his armor. Narrowing his optics he spread his wings to their full length behind him before folding them forward suddenly. The discs that were settled at the edges of his wings launching from their resting place, one giving of a fiery orange and radiating with heat and the other giving an icy blue glow and radiating a coldness from it. These discs were mean to cause blunt damage if they struck but the heat was enough to start melting away armor and the coldness enough to start making it brittle. And from how he launched them the discs were aimed for either side of Zodiac.
Perhaps she might have every intention of taking him out in some way or even capturing him as a prisoner, but Skystalker wasn't going to make this easy for his adversary.
Zodiac growled as she hit her target but didn't bring him down. She watched in confusion as he spread out his wings and suddenly flung them forward launching these to discs at her. She didn't know what they were but her instincts told her to avoid them. The read one just barely missed her left wing, and the other hit her squarely in the forearm. SHe was hit with an icy cold blast that left her armor brittle and even cracked it a bit. She needed to find out where this beast came from. If he was an Autobot an interrogation would immediately be in order. He was clearly not a Decepticon, however, she couldn't remember the last time Autobot tried making their own Predacons.
Figuring that being on the ground was no longer a good idea, she decided to do what she does best. Fly. She put her pistols back into their holsters and transformed into a grey Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II fighter jet. She blast high into the sky past the Predacon and stopped a comfortable distance away and began to circle him. She had visible guns under her wings that aimed toward him, but not taking a shot.
"So tell me beast," Zodiac called in a loud taunting voice. "Are you an Autobot? Cause I didn't know the Autobots started copying Shockwave's knack for bringing things back to life."
One struck but the other did not, which he expected might have been the case. His disks took a lot of calculation ans testing at times, not exactly being the most accurate of projectiles. But, Skystalker would not complain as they came ricocheting off the walls and back towards him as Zodiac went shooting past him in jet mode. Sensors on his wings gave a signal to return to their resting spot, needing time to reset and cool down and warm up repectively.
His attention returned to the Seeker, Skystalker eyeing her with hatred and malice, a gaze he had never used on anyone before. She had advantage over him right now, in terms of speed and fire power but he was more than glad to oblige her a battle as he transformed to his beast form with a low snarl coming from his chest. “Your logic circuits must be on the fritz if you think any Autobot in their right processor would resort to playing Primus as your mad scientist Shockwave does. But then again, anyone following a monster or supporting one woulsn’t exactly have much logic to begin with.” Skystalker responded, flapping his wings to keep himself in place, a bluish-white glow showing in his chest.
“I am by no means a true Autobot, but I have enough sense to know where my loyalty lies in this conflict!” Skystalker was in no mood to talk much less make conversation with this sorry excuse of metal and parts. He roared and fired the cryo breath he had been building up during his answering of her questions, already building up another blast in preparation for an aerial fight.
She watched as he transformed. She thought that he was a beast before but now that she was seeing his true form he was worse. She was almost in awe. Of course Shockwave would create such a thing. A machine, built specifically to kill. As the predacon spoke she could see a odd light bluish glow coming from the predacon's chest. Zodiac's instincts immediately told her to get out of the way, and she listened. And oh, was she glad that she did. Almost immediately after the predacon had finished his rant he sent a cryo fire her way just as she blasted her thrusters. The fires singed her wings a bit, but it could've been much worse.
She blasted away for a few seconds before turning back around and opening fire on the predacon. Zodiac was careful not to randomly spray fire but carefully concentrate it on the predacon's body, on specific points.
His wings, his joints, any weak spot I can see, Zodiac thought. Every now and again she would pause to circle him again using her enhanced optics to look for another weak spot. This predacon was strong if she left herself open to attack he could easily tear her limb from limb. If he was able to get close. In all her years as an assassin she would never get close to her victims. She never liked to fight up close. It was far to personal for her taste. But if this mech were to get a hold of her it would most definitely be the end.
Then she started to think about what she would do once she brought him down. She did not have the means to do such a thing. Nor did she have the physical strength to detain him long enough to bring him to his creator. But she did need information at the very least for all her trouble. "So tell me. What is your name beast?"
The downside to having cryo breath, or any form of breath weapon for that matter as a Predacon, it could be easily given away. The glowing was distinctive and not hard to miss, so for his blast to have missed wasn't entirely surprising. 'Least this won't be a short conflict.' Skystalker thought, quickly following where Zodiac moved and not hesitating to gave chase to the Seeker.
But her greater speed would prove to be to her advantage in this fight, seeming as Skystalker himself wasn't much for speed in the air. Not to the level of Seekers anyway. Already she had turned to confront him once more, releasing some rounds on him that forced the Predacon to roll to the side to avoid more shots, some tearing into his exposed joints. Truth be told, not all his joints were well-armored, which did leave him somewhat more vulnerable than he wanted. But, he wasn't going to back down just for that.
No, instead, he kept blasting his cryo breath towards her with each turn, dive, roll, whatever seemed fitting. Trying to get in close, where he felt the most comfortable but her fire power kept him at bay, and was wearing him down, gradually but surely. "Skystalker," The blue Predacon growled a response, flying backwards a few feet to watch Zodiac yet again, trying to prepare for her next round of attack.
The predacon continued to blast his cryo breath at her with each turn they made. She could feel the fire nipping at the rear of her alt-mode. Finally he had stopped and flew a few feet away to watch her. She continued to circle him. So this was Shockwave's Primus forsaken creation, and it did have a name.
"Skystalker" Zodiac mumbled under her breath as she circled him once more.
Instead of searching for a weak spot on the predacon's body she focused on his face. Sharp teeth that could tear into her and rip her to shreds if given the chance. And his yellow reptilian-like optics glared at her.
His optics!
She grinned to herself as the stopped circling and sped toward him firing at Skystalker's optics. If he was blinded, even if it was temporary she could bring him down easily.
