Characters:Hot Shot, Override Location: Race Track in Crown City Content Warnings: 'Possible' reckless driving Plot Summary: Visiting Crown City, Hot Shot is eager to try out the local race track, but will he make a new friend while he's there or a new rival?
Aaah.. Crown City. So this was where Rodimus spent his time!
Certainly was nicer than Jasper, but from what he heard the base in this city wasn't all that much bigger than Jasper's. They even had a sun roof! Maybe it wasn't as practical, but you had to just make due with what you had. Something Hot Shot knew far too well.
The littlest Wrecker sped down the streets of Crown City, wanting to explore and get the layout of the place. Definitely seemed fancier and had a lot more humans, but there was one thing in particular that caught his attention faster than you could say 'Notice Me Senpai'.
A race track!
Without a moment's hesitation, Hot Shot drove up to the track, noticing that there really wasn't anyone here at the moment. In fact, no one was here at all! It was the perfect chance for him to seize the opportunity of doing some laps and just seeing how fast he could go. Maybe one day he'd work up that courage to ask Rodimus for a race or something. He stopped at the starting line area of the track, revving his engine a bit as he got ready to take off.
Tires squealing. Engines revving. Override absolutely adored those sounds, missing them more the longer she was away from Velocitron. Those distinct sounds which graced her audials didn't belong to the innumerable vehicles puttering around Crown City's busy streets, no. She could tell. That engine was hungry to start ripping up some track, and it was close.
The track itself was roughly the same size as the track that held the Benefit 500 back home, and it had a single contender ready to tear it up. Just as the blue racer was seemingly about to go on his way, Override's GT40 roared to life from behind, proudly rolling up beside him.
Hot Shot was just prepared to go when he heard the sounds of another vehicle pull up. A human racer? Even if it was, that was one sick vehicle coming up beside him. He knew he'd likely be in trouble with Ultra Magnus if he revealed himself only for this to be some human.
But the thing was.. he couldn't tell at all.
"I dunno who you are, but let's see who's faster." His words were filled with excitement, looking forward to beating whoever this guy was. His engine revved noisily, eager to get a move on. There wasn't a flag person or any lights on to indicate when they should start, so Hot Shot did the next best thing.
He just plain sped right on by and down the track in a cocky manner. Could this mystery challenger keep up with him?
He was certainly bold, she had to give him that. The racer's eagerness to show off his stuff was almost inspiring, Override thought. It was still too early for the Velocitronian to size him up, so instead she fired up her muon jets to start screaming down the track, herself. Override's added acceleration brought her within speaking distance of her adversary, which she took advantage of.
"You're not too shabby yourself, kid!" she exclaimed, gleefully. The GT40's headlights lit up in tandem with her speech, indicating that she was something more than just a human racer. In the meantime, she kept pace with Hot Shot, "But let's kick it into high gear, yeah?"
Oh wow he didn't actually expect the mysterious one to keep up with him.
Such speed and power, they definitely would've made for a fine racer if they'd been on Cybertron. No wait, Velocitron. Hot Shot had heard all about their speedways and how the entire planet was basically a giant race track. What he would've given to be able to go to such a cool place like that~! Focused on the road, he listened as the mysterious one spoke to him.
Wait.. Was this a female driver?!
Hot Shot was impressed as all heck.
There was one other thing that caught his attention as he prepared to make the first turn on the track. Were the headlights lighting up on the vehicle when she was speaking? But that only happened when.. "Wait.. are you..?" Oh wait. Turn. Turn! Hot Shot began to turn, but was super curious about this one.
She still couldn't know for certain, but Override was beginning to suspect her opponent was just like her, in a sense. That just made the race even more exciting! The other driver seemed to be curious about her just as well, although his question was cut off as they rounded the first turn. A late start had forced her to cling to the outside of the track, but as she begin to turn round the corner her situation changed.
Override barely counter steered as she hit the first corner, keeping her nose straight as she drifted around the outside. Just as she had predicted, she kept the speed she would have lost if she'd counter steered any more, giving her a faster line of action into the next stretch of track. All of that coupled with her higher top speed gave Override the edge she needed, inching her way in front of the other driver.
She was less interested in actually winning the race, more so to see just what this other guy had up his sleeve to pass her, if he could pass her. "Didja say something back there?" she asked.
Hot Shot was extremely impressed now, especially with the female driver now beating him. He was gonna have to pull out all the stops in order to pull back ahead of her, but at least he didn't have too far to go. The both of them were practically neck and neck, though she was still winning. He had almost forgotten the fact that he was going to ask the racer a question until she had brought it back up.
"You're not from around here are you? I mean, you're a natural at this! Don't get me wrong, but you definitely don't seem like you're from these parts." Then again, Hot Shot wasn't either.
That pretty much settled it, he was just like her; probably. Override was a bit too caught up in the race to think harder on it, so the Velocitronian settled with the most likely answer. Override held the lead, but not as comfortably as she'd have liked. This guy was good, and he had some definite potential.
"I'm Override, nice to meet 'ya!" she piped back, still focused on the race at hand.
Hot Shot was completely stunned. He'd heard so much about Velocitron as he'd been fascinated by all the races that go on there, and a few times had that name been mentioned. She was supposed to be this amazing racer, wasn't she? Holy crap holy crap holy crap!
"Override?! The legendary racer of Velocitron?! Holy crap I never though I'd get a chance to meet you, let alone race you. Name's Hot Shot, by the way."
Now this race was that much more exciting now that he knew who he was up against. Naturally he wasn't sure that he could beat her at her own game, but hey. There was fun in trying to do so. She'd already been impressed with how good he was doing, so why not give the femme a bit more to be interested about?
Hot Shot revved his engine as he drifted around another bend, attempting to pull back ahead into the lead.
"Hot Shot, eh? Do all you Cybertronian boys race this well?" she teasingly asked, still defending her lead position. She noticed his move as they rounded the next corner, copying her technique almost perfectly; almost. It still wasn't enough to steal away first place, but Override had to admit to herself that it was something alright.
"Try not to turn so much while you're drifting, and you'll keep the speed through the turn, by the way!" she shouted out a moment later.
"Well, I dunno if we all do, but I certainly do!" And there went Hot Shot again, boasting to the femme. He wanted to at least make a good impression, and Override was definitely buying into it. Though in his defense, he wasn't exactly lying or anything. It wasn't often that he got the chance to race someone, so to be doing this well against Override was definitely blowing that little ego of his into mass proportion.
She noticed as he drifted, already giving him pointers as he made his turn. "Yeah, yeah, I got it~." However, as he went too much into the turn, he lost control and spun out. Fortunately, he was able to regain control quick enough that he didn't crash into anything.
Thank Primus this wasn't like the time with the ice.
"You, uh.. You didn't see that. I'll take your advice next time."
"What are you talking about? You can't expect to do everything perfectly on the first try!" Yeah, she was starting to see a lot of herself in him, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing to see. He had talent, just not the patience to take full advantage of it yet. His bashfulness at spinning out in front of her was cute, though.
"Lemme know when you've had enough, I wanna get a look at 'ya when you're not in your alt-mode," she asked from her spot in first. There wasn't really a deciding factor in when the race was to be called, so Override felt like letting Hot Shot determine when it was over.
There certainly was truth in Override's words. You couldn't be perfect at all the things on the first try. It was something that required lots and lots of practice, all of which Hot Shot was a bit impatient at doing. He just wanted to show off to the femme, but he also wanted to show her just how good he was at racing.
"Oh alright. If you wanna stop and see my mug." Hot Shot chuckled, slowing down to a stop before transforming. Looked like their little race was over, but that didn't mean that they couldn't have another one one day. He looked to Override once he was all set, flicking his doorwings as he stretched.
"Of course," she replied. Override's alt mode broke apart as she transformed, starting to stand at full height. She lacked the door wings that many Autobots like Hot Shot possessed, although she felt that divergent evolution had a hand in that.
She stood fully transformed, just a hair taller than Autobot that stood before her, though her horns helped too. Override was a very confident looking bot to say the least; broad shoulders coupled with a stern yet compassionate gaze solidified the fact. "How do I look?"
