Characters: Marie, Open Location: Jasper, Nevada Content Warnings: Mentions of past abuse and illness Plot Summary: Marie begins reintegrating into society...though, the universe may have some curveballs to throw
Marie tried not to run out the doors of the Jasper General Hospital. Really, she did. But, after spending as much time as she had in there, both before and after the specialist in Vegas, made her more than ready to never enter it again. Unfortunately, the nature of her illness required regular checkups. After a year of being in and out, she'd gotten to know the nurses way too closely, and there was something just wrong about that.
As quickly as her still-weak muscles allowed, she ran to where she'd parked her motorcycle and swung on. She'd barely gotten her helmet on before she was pulling out and zipping off, terrified that they would come out and call her back for another blood draw, or something of that nature. No. She was going home to the little house her grandparents let her use when they were traveling. Alone. And there she was going to tackle that ridiculous text she'd been sent. Seriously, who cared about ancient Germanic anymore? It was a good thing she'd paid attention to her linguistics professors when they covered stuff like that. And she was still doing a buttload of research to help herself figure it out.
Her leather jacket pulled at her frame as she zoomed to the town limits, onto the open highway. it had once fit nicely, now, it could have functioned as a parachute. She pulled up to the stop sign, pausing long enough to check one way and then the other. God, she was tired. And sore. And she still smelled like hospital...she needed a nice shower and a good movie as she wallowed in her single life with her college degree.
It had been a long while since Forth had gotten the chance to pull some pranks on humans, or just cause trouble in general. Majority of his time had been spent on the Nemesis as of late, helping to keep things running, going over plans, what he could do for his small size, etc, etc., everything that was exceptionally boring for the young minicon. The first moment he could steal away a patrol he did it, winding up in the talked about city of Jasper, which seemed a central point some Autobots had been found from time to time.
But, it wasn't necessarily a patrol he was interested in or finding Autobots so much as causing problems for the locals there. So, he had been doing just that. Using his outlier abilities to send things flying unexpectedly, using his claws to vandalize cars or items, sending people flying off their bikes or their cars moving unexpectedly. Primus it felt good to be doing something other than roaming the Nemesis doing really nothing. Any pranks he had done there had been alright, but nothing to the scale he wanted without seriously risking his place on the ship or getting vaporized if it was the wrong mech you didn't want to mess with.
In fact, at the moment, Forth was crouched in the back of a truck he had taken refuge in, having watched with amusement as he caused one driver to crash into another. Nothing serious, but there had been some road rage involved and before he could be spotted he had hopped right into the nearest vehicle before it left. After a few blocks of driving the truck had pulled at an area with a few stop signs, and when it did he immediately jumped down just as the truck began to go, shaking himself slightly when he was sure there was no chance he had been seen by the driver. But when he turned to see where he was....Forth realized he had made a minor mistake.
Across the way was a human sitting on her two-wheeler. And here he was, full on mini-robo dragon out in the open and no where to run nor hide.
Marie waited tiredly as a truck that had arrived just before her pulled away from the sign across from her. She was already imagining a warm bed and Netflix and maybe some hot tea. And textbooks for translating old Gemanic. She yawned under her helmet, eyes closing briefly.
When they opened again, she was stopped short of moving again by the sight before her.
It was a…large…robotic…cat thing…
What the hell?
She stared at it for a moment, distantly wondering if maybe the drugs they’d given her a first dose of at the hospital weren’t having a weird side-effect. Of the hallucinogenic variety. Then she realized that it was staring back at her. Was that thing real?
She was waaay too tired for this crap. A part of her knew that she should probably have some kind of super dramatic reaction. Like, running and screaming and hardcore noping out. But, she was on meds, and tired, and probably shouldn’t be operating a motor vehicle at this time.
So, she raised a hand and did the universal ‘move out of the way’ motion, waving it aside. Maybe it would just…move and she could go home and sleep off the drugs.
Forth just stood there, frozen to the spot. He knew Decepticons didn't care nearly as much of hiding themselves as the Autobots seemed to, but at the same time making themselves known so quickly could cause other problems all their own. So, to have been spotted and so carelessly at that wasn't exactly looking good for Forth.
Then she just...waved her hand for him to move. Literally having to glance at the different streets, he was was making sure he wasn't missing something or in his brief state of surprise maybe wasn't seeing a driver. But it appeared she was indeed asking him to move. Now this was a first. Instead of moving aside though, Forth actually approached the human girl, seeming as she already saw him and didn't seem to be reacting...normally. "Don't you fleshlings normally run screaming from a giant creature that could easily tear you to ribbons?" Forth inquired, a low growl in his voice as he began circling her.
It could be so easy to cause her harm, maybe tear up her mode of transportation if he wanted to. But he had to admit, he was curious. He wanted to know why this one flesh creature was not running away or freaking out to some degree. Not even a small scream.
Just a seemingly normal and boring day in Jasper for Smokescreen. Sometimes he just got so bored being in the base, and it was getting awfully crowded with all the new bots at the base. It was just so hard to keep track of everybody, and that was just more showing off he was gonna have to do in order to make himself noticed.
As he drove down the streets of the desert city, he fiddled around with the radio. Earth really did have good music and it was gonna take him forever to find all the good stuff. After passing up a few stations, a song by a famous judge on a talent finder show and some other guy popped on. "Ooh! I like this one!" It didn't take long for the mech to sing along with the music.
By the time he reached the end of the song, he noticed something oddly.. suspicious. Was that one of those Mini-Cons? Attacking a motorcycle? Just what had Arcee gotten herself int- oh. That wasn't Arcee, but did that mean that there was a human in need of saving?
Smokescreen to the rescue!
Rolling down his windows, blaring 'Ride of the Valkyries', the mech drove right up to the Mini-Con and the girl on the motorcycle. Drawing near, he began to honk his horn in an attempt to scare the small one off. "Hey! Leave the human alone!"
Not much point in hiding your identity when the Mini-Con already revealed itself.
In fact, Marie squinted, it was moving closer. She frowned. So....was it not a figment of her imagination? The cat-thing was...real? Whatever the case, it wasn't dissipating, or...whatever. It was just coming at, and now circling, her. Some things were just not okay. At last, with the realization that this seemed to be a real thing, a bit of fear set in.
Of course, it wasn't as much as would be normal. Yes, the cat-robot had razor sharp claws and teeth and was quite large. And, yes, it was glaring at her malevolently. But, Marie had faced the possibility of death so many times in the past year that, honestly, another brush just...didn't have the same effect. After lying in a hospital bed, struggling to breathe, coughing up blood and other fluids, wondering if the next few minutes would be her last as doctors swarmed around her, fear got...tiring. Two years ago, she would have screamed, peed her pants, and run, regardless of her training. Now? Not so much. It was just...weird. Really weird.
But, after clawing through that experience by sheer force of will, she wasn't about to give up. Her grip on the bike tightened. When it got behind her, she would take off as quickly as possible. Her fear might have been all but drained, but it was numerous years of training that allowed her to keep a level head. Creature or not, there were proper responses to threats. Like getting the hell out of dodge. Especially when they were talking like that, barely audible over the muted rumble of the motorcycle engine and Marie's helmet. Which, honestly wasn't that surprising. What else would a giant robot cat thing do?
Any plans to run were halted when the unmistakable sound of a car approaching and a sudden blast of "Ride of the Valkyries" startled her. Her head whipped around, focus momentarily off the creature. The car drove straight up, a voice emanating from...its direction calling for her- the human- to be left alone. She squinted at the car, and quickly realized that there was no driver.
That, more than anything, sent a cold bolt of shock and confusion through her. What? What was this? She quickly glanced back at the creature. What was going on? First a cat thing and now a...talking car?
Forth eyed her closely, glaring in wonder and curiosity. She seemed to be watching him now too, from fear or uncertainty though was hard to tell when she wore that helmet. It was too strange for someone such as Forth to not hear some form of reaction, gasping of shock, hyperventilation, shaking, something. His circling her warranted a small movement from her hands, tightening on the handles of her motorcycle but nothing more. Perhaps there was an effect after all.
He paused in on her left side then, deciding there was more than one way to earn a reaction. “Showing no fear, you got some nerves fleshling. Perhaps I can-” Forth was cut off by someone else riding up, blaring some kind of music he found incredibly irritating. Another human was about to see him, making him begin to weigh his options at first until the car spoke.
Now, was this another brave human? He turned to face Smokescreen, immediately noticing some rather tall tale signs of this not being an Earth vehicle. “You’re right Autobot, a human not scared and running away in fright isn’t nearly as fun as one just sitting on her aft waiting for something to happen. Must be your lucky day, because I’ll play with you instead!” Forth growled and leapt right for Smokescreen’s hood, claws flexing and attempting to tear into the metal. As much as he wanted to use his outlier ability, there wasn’t much metal around and the metal that was would require some repositioning that Forth wasn’t willing to deal with when there was ample opportunity to attack here and now.
When he told the Mini-Con not to mess with the human, having it mess with him instead wasn't exactly what he'd had in mind.
Eh.. It'd have to do.
"Oh really, Mini-Con? I've got a few tricks that I can show you. Like this!" Just before he could do what he wanted to do, the little guy was already digging it's claws into his hood. "Hey! Watch the paint!" With a groan, Smokescreen transformed. While he didn't want to transform right in front of the human, he didn't have that much of a choice if he wanted a fair fight.
He attempted to grab at the Mini-Con, staring down at it. "Oh wow, you look so much smaller now~."
Marie was shocked enough that she couldn't do much more than gape when the cat-thing jumped the car. Which then...stood up. It literally just...stood up. She didn't know how else to describe it.
What the hell?
It was at that point that training overruled shock, meds, and general weirdness and told her that the universe had many mysteries, some of which were super freaky, and that trying to solve them would get her killed.
With that in mind, she hit the gas, speeding away with a loud revving of the motorcycle's engine. It was as she was putting distance between them that reality caught up with her. Holy crap. Was that cat thing trying to eat her? It looked like it was. And the car talked. And stood up. It had a freaking face! It was a talking car with a face! Which was actually weirder than the cat thing, at the moment.
Marie continued accelerating until she was at the limit of how fast the bike could go, screaming down the desert roads at definitely unsafe speeds. Hopefully, if they finished fighting, she would be faster than the victor. Hopefully, neither gave chase.
Forth glowered at the Autobot as he was held aloft by Smokescreen. He had a small bit of satisfaction for scratching up his paint, seeming as most of the Autobots seemed rather vain about their paint jobs for whatever reason. 'Maybe they're good friends with that medic Knock Out.' He mused to himself as he eyed his handy work. Okay, it wasn't the most he could do but the Autobot had been more prepared then he usually would have liked, causing him to simply scoff.
"It's a gaudy paint job anyway." Forth retorted, crossing his paws with a glare until he heard the sudden gunning of an engine. He turned his head slightly to see Marie taking off, causing him to frown at first in disappointment. "And there goes your ungrateful flesh creature your kind like to protect so much." But it then dawned on Forth that transforming into a Cyclone state did make it possible to still have a bit of fun after all. His disappointed look quickly turned into a mischievous, wicked grin, "But now who said I couldn't still make this chase worth while?"
Letting out his magnetic pulse ability, he used their close proximity to force himself out of Smokescreen's grasp, maybe even make the mech stumble a little if he was lucky. Moment he was free however, Forth was transforming to his cyclone state just as he landing on the concrete, causing small sparks from his metal frame screeching on it. Twisting on the spot, Forth began rolling as fast as his form would allow, shifting part of the rolling plating to extent his cannon, firing towards Marie but not directly aiming, wanting to cause her a bit of a scare first.
"Oh like you'd know. You're is just so bland and boring." After all, what wasn't cooler than having numbers painted on your sides? And some sick racing stripes! Bee certainly could rock that look too, though maybe without the double digits on his wings.
Though it seemed that this little guy wasn't just done yet. He saw the human making their great escape, and he wasn't quite finished with them yet. Why were these guys always like this..? "Not if I have anything to say about it!" He yelled out as he was suddenly forced into letting go of the Mini-Con, the little tyke already making their next move by barreling after the escaping human.
"Oh no you don't!" Transforming back, Smokescreen floored it and gave chase. He wasn't about to let this Mini-Con have his way with the human. Swerving to drive alongside the Mini-Con, he attempted to ram the guy out of the way. "Hey, human girl! I'm gonna try and get him off your tail! You just keep on doing what you're doing!"
Marie could list about ten million reasons why this wasn't okay.
First, the cat-thing tried to eat her, now it was- shooting at her? She was forced to veer as a blast of some sort struck the pavement near her, sending bits of rubble flying. She glanced back over her shoulder as she righted herself. Holy hell, was that thing spinning?
The robot thing that had tried to...save her? Turned back into a car. It drove after the cat-thing from hell, trying to ram it off the road. Then, it yelled at her to keep going. It was at this point that she registered that it was talking to her. Good grief, she was never getting in a car again.
She did as she was told, though, keeping the bike flying at top speed. And desperately hoping she didn't lose control.
This is why Forth was growing to like Earth; there were several things he could do here and many of these fleshlings to deal with. They were so easily scared or freaked out, seen during his time hanging out in the Crown City shipyard, making the place appear haunted. So many superstitions these humans had and he could take advantage of. And from the little knowledge he had heard from others, humans also had strange legends and myths, some of which involved creatures of the imagination. Now he could really get into that.
But first, he had this to do.
He had kept taking shots, giving a growling, cackling laugh as he forced her to veer away from a shot that nearly struck her. "That's it, keep running like a good little human." Forth taunted under his breathe, but snarled when he heard Smokescreen coming up fast. And before he knew it, the speedster was at his side, ramming into him a few times while Forth rammed right back. "Why don't you Autobots ever worry about yourselves rather than some fragile creature? What good are they for other than being vulnerable little pets?" Forth hissed, trying to keep at his pace, but the ramming was making it difficult to aim for Marie.
Perhaps it was time for a change of tactic. Halting himself suddenly, her prevented Smokescreen from ramming him another time, letting the mech race past him before he began rolling again at his full speed once more. If he couldn't take the human out, he'd do some more damage on the Autobot instead. Perhaps mess up his paint job, or blow out a tire. Anything sounded absolutely fun at this rate. "Since you're so eager to be a shield bulk, I'll oblige." Forth focused his cannon once more upon Smokescreen, beginning to fire at his rear now.
Smokescreen was growing all the more frustrated with this Mini-Con..
He was doing everything he could do in order to protect the human from it, but it was just being stubborn as all heck. Even Alpha Trion was.. wait no. Alpha Trion was worse in terms of stubbornness.
"I dunno, maybe it's because this is their planet and not ours?! I mean, yeah it's a cool planet and all, but that doesn't mean you guys get to go pick 'em all off or whatever." Optimus would've been the first one to say that they should keep the humans out of this war, but the Decepticons didn't care. They were in the way and they'd just do what they pleased.
The Elite Guardsmech would keep trying to ram into Forth to keep him off Marie's tracks, but his tactic would soon have to change when the Mini-Con finally had enough of that game. Now it was Smokescreen's turn to dodge the attacks, but he could at least get the focus off the human. Smokescreen would swerve back and forth to try and evade the attack, though a couple shots did hit him near the trunk.
If Marie knew what she was doing, she'd be booking it about now while Forth was distracted. He just had to hold out until she escaped, even if it caused some pain.
