Player Alias: Thundercat
Character Name: Bumblebee
Allegiance: Autobots
Appearance Description:
Bumblebee shares a frame type akin to those of Praxus or speedsters, sharing a rather sleek, aerodynamic shape to his frame. He is smaller in height than the average Cybertronian but still taller than a minibot, although he is still rather bulky and muscular looking. This is especially seen in his legs, forearms, shoulders, and chest area, granting him some durability. He has two visible door wings upon his back and his head isn't anything too distinctive, save for the small head horns he has on either side of his head.
His colors are primarily yellow and black with visible blue bio-lights and bright blue optics. The only contrast to this color scheme is the smokey gray of his protoform. He also employs a black battle mask with four blue bio-light spots decorating it, most often in battle or other times when his speech fails him, covering all but his optics. His alternate mode of choice is an Urbana 500, a sporty muscle car more than befitting someone like Bumblebee.
Personality: To those who know Bumblebee, they will all say the same thing: he is a playful, lovable young bot with a lot of potential. Because when you get down to it, Bumblebee is still very much a young bot at his core regardless of his newer responsibilities. He loves to crack jokes and tends to find some reason to have some fun when he has downtime or when he isn’t needed to do some jobs with the other Autobots. It is just in his nature to be rather compassionate and humorous, having found it to be the best remedy in such dire circumstances the Cybertronians have found themselves in. In every aspect of the word, he is just fun loving, energetic, and out going, in general an optimistic sort who is usually easy to get along with and rather adaptable by nature.
But, with growing up in the war and gradually given more responsibilities, Bumblebee has lost a lot of that youthful vigor in favor of maturity and focus. He is still very much a compassionate and energetic young mech, but he is also more in tune in understanding and knowing those around him more than ever, especially with given the role of lieutenant and leader to his own team. He has had to grow up a bit faster than ever, to see how to handle some dire and serious situations from all angles rather than charging head on. Bee knows he has to find the balance of serious and fun loving, find his center in knowing when to be humorous and when it’s time to get down to business. His days of winging it and going in head first, guns blazing have gradually been left behind for a calmer, more level headed view since there is much more at stake then just his life or one other person.
In general, he has had to learn the hard way of how to carve his own way of having a team and coordinating with others he is not use to working with. Bumblebee has therefore gone through a lot of swings of trial-and-error and frustrations of dealing with a ragtag team of his own and has had to learn to be patient and in his own right a guiding hand to some younger bots who he is only slightly older to. That does not stop the yellow mech from still being fiercely loyal and protective of his friends and those he considers family, willingly sacrificing his life or throwing himself into danger to ensure their safety just as he has countless times before. And despite his frustrations and some waning times of patience, Bumblebee is slowly regaining confidence in himself to be a leader and trust his own instincts rather than rely on being someone he is not. Although, this has not tempered his occasional tendencies to being reckless or bit of a daredevil.
Strengths:
Little bit of Everything: Bumblebee is a mix of small, slightly aerodynamic frame granting him speed and dexterity with a frame that is also bulky, strong, and durable. He is capable of outmaneuvering larger bots and multiple opponents, getting into small areas others cannot, or performing some acrobatic feats to some extent. But the bulk in his frame makes him still adequately strong and fairly durable, making him one of the few bots who can adapt speed and agility with that of strength and durability when he needs to.
Close Quarters Combat: His size, strength, and dexterity aren’t the only things under Bumblebee’s belt. He has been extensively trained in various fighting forms on Cybertron, valuing something akin to boxing mixed with martial arts that can make full use of his size and speed. He owes a lot of this towards Optimus and Ironhide most of all, to name a few.
Non-verbal Communication: Due to many years of his voice box not working properly, Bumblebee has mastered the art of non-verbal communication. Though many can learn this to some degree, he takes this further by using expression and body language to beeps when his voice starts shorting out. Though able to speak once more, it has become a habit and often needed when his voice box goes on the fritz from time to time. After arriving to Earth a few years ago however, Bumblebee discovered the use of sign language and has been learning this Earth based method as another form of communication.
Adaptable: With his years as a message courier and a scout, Bumblebee has learned to adapt to his surroundings, making use of the environment or whatever might be available to him to get the job done. In a way, improvising and using what he has available has almost become second nature to the young scout and leader, making him somewhat of a tricky opponent to fight.
Strong Will: One thing Bee certainly has is incredibly strong will power, having many times pushed through his limits or rebuffed attempts to capture or force him to spill information. This is most especially seen when Bumblebee was at one point captured, imprisoned, and tortured by Megatron for information but Bumblebee never once speaking a word, resulting in permanent damage to his voice box and left for dead.
Weaknesses:
Communication: Despite Bumblebee being capable of communicating in multiple ways, there is the problem that some people do not understand him. Some people do not completely get his point through his beeps or expressions alone, requiring him to have to use body language often or have other alternative ways of getting his point across. And other times, he just has to handle things himself.
Junk in the Trunk: As true as it may be that Bumblebee is famous for his speed and dexterity, this is heavily hindered by the fact that he has far more bulk in his form than say someone like Knock Out. He is meant more for situations involving strength and durability, having since foregone his once small, compact form on Cybertron and thus is not nearly as agile as he might have been.
Confidence: One thing that has become prominent for Bumblebee over the years is his confidence. Bumblebee wavers from being on his A-game to being downright no better than the clumsiest human. This is in large part with more responsibilities given to him in the past few years as a leader of his own team with Optimus’ blessing and feeling he could never live up to the expectations of his older peers, especially his mentor and father figure Optimus Prime. This has often led Bumblebee to question himself and second guess major calls, putting himself and his team at risk from time to time.
Close Quarters Preference: Due to feeling more at home with fighting in close quarters, Bumblebee will often do whatever he can to get in close to the enemy. Having trained most in close quarters and melee fighting this can leave him a target from a distance or having to adapt to the situation with what long distance weapons he does have.
Slightly Small Stature: Despite his bulk, Bumblebee is still somewhat shorter than some of his fellow Autobots, which means if not careful he can be overpowered and get into some trouble if he does not watch himself.
Abilities:
Combiner: Bumblebee doesn't recall much of how he gained this ability, much less he has only made it known to his fellow Autobots since he discovered it by mistake. Still, Bumblebee has gained the ability to combine with other Cybertronians who have undergone the procedure to powerlink and combine with others, forming a much larger, more powerful form. Though, he is also capable of combining with one other bot rather than four or five others for a smaller form as well. For timeline shenanigans, this ability was earned in the same manner as the RID 2015 version but Bumblebee has only bits and pieces of this event he remembers.
Weaponry:
Arm Mounted Dual-Barreled Energon Blasters: Located within his arms, Bumblebee has a dual-barreled blaster that fires concentrated energon blasts in quick succession that are more than enough to pack a little punch.
Decepticon Hunter (Spear Mode): Acquired from part of the Alchemor’s wreckage, Bumblebee can now often be seen with a spear like weapon that extends to roughly half his body length, almost reminiscent of an elaborate, flat trident, although the top could also resemble a spread out bladed fan.The color retains a mostly smokey gray color with the Decepticon Hunter serving as the main handle in the middle. The spear glows with blue bio-lights along the edges of the spear blades and the lower tip is rounded and blunt with blue bio-lights in four stripes along the corners.
Plasma Cannon: Bumblebee employs a hand-held plasma cannon, courtesy of the armory at the main base in Nevada. The cannon is usually attached between his door wings but can be drawn and fires three concentrated blasts of heated plasma in quick succession but can be powered up for more intense shots. This weapon is capable of causing some melting and heat damage to Cybertronian armor, causing it to weaken an opponent and break down their defenses.
Energy Shield: A device Bumblebee has attached to his hip, it almost resembles brass knuckles in appearance when held in the hand but pressing the release button on the inner handle triggers an energy shield that almost resembles pixels or a checker board. It is black with silver accents and can hold up against several energy and melee attacks but can be worn down by long periods of concentrated fire or more powerful weapons such as the fusion cannon.
History:
Message courier. Scout. Warrior. Lieutenant.
Bumblebee has had many roles in his life, from something seemingly ordinary and boring to being a close friend to many and respected among his peers. The yellow mech known as Bumblebee of Iacon was part of the last generation that emerged from the Well of Allsparks before it began to die down due to Autobot-Decepticon war beginning to cause massive strain one energy and the planet itself. Coming online during the earliest part of the war when lulls were quite common, Bumblebee first started out as a citizen with his job being a message courier due to his small, compact form.
His job was rather mundane but the small yellow mech found himself content with his job, carrying messages to and from in and outside of Iacon, initially not concerned with the conflict like many. But, over time he too began to see that not everything was peachy and safe as the High Council and the then Prime were making it out to be. Seeing the destruction of the war and seeing many citizens left in need, Bumblebee was motivated to help where he could, taking side trips during his job to give aid to citizens or helping Autobots who genuinely cared for the well-being and safety of their home. It was these little side treks that Bumblebee wound up joining the Autobots at last, proudly emblazening their symbol upon his chest. Doing so, he started becoming a courier for them and gradually got into his job of scouting due to his smaller size allowing him to get into places easier than some.
But it would be when the war really started to pick up steam that Bumblebee completely quit his civilian lifestyle and devoted himself entirely to helping his faction where he could, serving a dual role as scout and message courier even well into the war. Such a job brought him into contact with many future friends and allies, namely the team under Optimus before and after he would become Prime. Though, during their first meeting, Bumblebee brought a message to Optimus and his team telling about the need for reinforcements and progression of Decepticon control and they were soon besieged by Decepticon forces, forcing Bumblebee to take action alongside his fellow Autobots. At the time however, Bumblebee was not the greatest fighter and had to use his wits and size to gain an advantage, even being aided by Optimus himself. After the attack, Optimus, impressed with the small mech’s courage and bravery, offered for him to join his team. Bumblebee politely declined and took off to his next assignment, eventually ending up working with a few different units following this.
As fate would have it, Bumblebee eventually did end up on Optimus’ team, becoming close friends with the likes of Jazz, Ironhide, Cliffjumper, and Ratchet and later Arcee and Bulkhead while he developed an almost father-son relationship with Optimus, coming to View him with great respect and as a mentor figure. With the ever changing Team Prime, Bumblebee served as a loyal scout and warrior, taking on several missions that included spying on Megatron and his goons, discovering the dark energon experiments, saving Sentinel Prime before his untimely demise, and the launching of the Allspark into space and getting the Arks up. But, the most memorable and painful memory Bumblebee has of these missions is the launch of the Allspark into space. Needing to distract Megatron, Bumblebee took the mission alone, fighting off the Vehicons and drawing Megatron’s attention...at a cost. Bumblebee was brutally and horribly tortured during an interrogation on any information of the Autobots and Optimus, but his refusal to speak caused Megatron to severely damage his vocalizer to the point it would be years before he would ever speak again despite Ratchet’s many attempts to fix it.
Eventually, when it came time to exodus from Cybertrom, Bumblebee was taken aside by his mentor and father figure about looking after some young bots, earning him a promotion from scout and warrior to lieutenant. Shocked by this, Bumblebee promised to take his new responsibility regardless if it meant his own life at risk. And just before he watched his friends and family leave, his voice was able to repaired at last, to a degree. Nevertheless, he went about becoming something of an enforcer on Cybertron, taking some under his own wing such as the eager young officer Strongarm and rambunctious Sideswipe before they were eventually called to Earth by a signal sent out by Optimus Prime himself. The yellow mech jumped at the opportunity to be reunited with old friends, taking his ragtag team to Earth and despite finding Megatron too was there they became a secondary problem when Team Bee was assigned to handle the crash of a prison ship called the Alchemor.
For a while now, Bumblebee has been doing just that. His team, with the additional member Grimlock who was a former prisoner now redeemed, have been handling the Decepticon refugees while he still does his scouting duties when there is a lull in his main assignment. But deep down, the yellow and black mech has a sneaking suspicion the refugee Decepticons may eventually be brought into Megatron’s fold.
