Characters:Spacewarp, @silentsky Location: Crew quarters on board the Nemesis Content Warnings: N/A Plot Summary: A meeting between two of the Decepticons' best Seekers.
She missed Airwalker, which was saying something about how absolutely lost Spacewarp was feeling. It had been a good few thousand years since she carried him, but he'd always been her little sparkling. She wondered if he had a counterpart in this universe; Spacewarp wondered if she had a counterpart in this universe, too. If both universes had a Megatron, what were the chances that this one had it's own Spacewarp as well? What if this universe's Spacewarp was dead, or had yet to be created? She was glad she wasn't a theoretical physicist.
Despite being a recruit in the eyes of these Decepticons, Spacewarp had been granted her own quarters, although she had her thoughts about it being due to her size compared to the Vehicons. The Vehicons. It wasn't as if she detested them, she simply detested the circumstances that made them necessary. A real Decepticon army wouldn't need to rely on disposable soldiers to get the job done, but this wasn't the Decepticon army like Spacewarp knew it. It was hardly an army at all, especially with Starscream around.
Spacewarp would've liked to believe it was the way she carried herself as if she was still an officer that made the Vehicons make room for her in the halls, but once again she knew it was probably her size instead. That would all change in due time, though. She would regain her rank of Air Commander of the fleet; anything less was an insult to her honor.
As the seeker turned a corner, she abruptly stopped dead in her tracks. Something bumped into her, although she was unable to see what exactly. It certainly wasn't large enough to knock her over, that's for sure. Was she going nuts being cooped up in here? Spacewarp's mask slid back to reveal her face.
Most times, someone probably would have ignored something odd in the halls. Many times they would dismiss it, chocking it up to simply bumping into the wall or a strange occurrence being nothing more than a figment of one's imagination. Usually, something strange happening could be seen as a number of things and outright dismissed. This was not one of those times.
For once, this strange occurrence of bumping into seemingly nothing earned a surprised noise of surprise in being bump into. For but a split second something seemed to shimmer in the air, confirming Spacewarp had indeed bumped into something, although it was more like someone. Another brief shimmer and the cloaking field disappeared, revealing the one Spacewarp had bumped into to be another Seeker, certainly smaller in size and height than herself. Silentsky was rubbing her head from where she had bumped into her fellow Seeker, having left her quarters but a few minutes before when she had finished a rare chance to get her armor polished and looking almost new again.
Shaking off the brief stars in her vision, the smaller seeker finally looked up, seeing who she had run into by accident. She in fact found herself having to tilt her head to even lock gazes with Spacewarp, causing her to step back slightly. "My apologies, I did not expect anyone to be right there." Silentsky apologized politely, her tone a soft whisper almost but audible and giving a quick bow of her head before she had straightened herself. It appeared she was in the presence of another new crew member such as herself, which was no doubt welcoming among their ranks for the need of a proper fighting force.
She could have sworn it wasn't a ghost... no, wait... there was the shimmering of the cloaking field. Spacewarp had to crane her head down to get a good view of her little roadblock, another seeker from the looks of it. The Decepticon wasn't surprised this had happened if being concealed by the shadows was this femme's default setting. Her sharp golden eyes pierced through the shorter Decepticon, her voice sprinkled with a hint of irony, "Neither did I."
Spacewarp didn't recognize the seeker she'd bumped into, although given her apparent preference to being invisible all the time, she didn't take it as surprising. This whole attitude, she assumed, was just a symptom of larger problems with the Decepticons. Her Decepticons were never this cloak and dagger with each other, at least not at the lower echelons. Still, Spacewarp was making a lot more assumptions about this femme than she was comfortable with. She might as well get to know her in as much of an honest capacity as she could, "Tell me... what is your name?"
The more she looked up at this larger seeker, the more Silentsky noticed that Spacewarp was giving off an air equivalent to a commanding presence. She seemed the proud sort, perhaps even a bit more serious than the likes of their current Air Commander Starscream. 'Interest.' She thought to herself, taking the moment to scan over the larger femme's frame, finding her to certainly to be on the larger side in both height and bulk. Surely Silentsky could not compare in terms of power but she could hold an advantage with her smaller frame if things ever got tense among the Seekers.
"Silentsky ma'am, aerial warrior and reconnaissance." Silentsky's voice came something more akin to a normal tone, but she had become so use to speaking in an audible, hypnotic whisper it was rare for her to give a normal speaking voice. Then again, she generally avoided really talking much to begin with. "And who might you be miss? Another commander? A general? You give off an air of...dominance, a commanding presence. I was just wondering." Silentsky inquired now, wondering if Spacewarp would be willing to tell her.
Silent was quiet possibly the most polite Decepticon she'd met during her stay aboard the Nemesis, although to her credit Spacewarp's standards were quite low. She might have been skulking about the ship with an active cloaking field, but at least she knew when she was in the presence of an officer, even though Spacewarp's rank was less than valid here. It was a better reception than she'd had with Starscream, an actual officer.
"I am Spacewarp, Captain of the 5th Air Cavalry of Cybertron..." she paused mid introduction. Perhaps a visual aid would better accompany her revelation. Spacewarp's eyes slid to the empty space between the two femmes, lighting up to project an image before Silentsky. It was Cybertron, without a doubt; the massive structures that covered it's surface were prominently displayed in the image. There was something else, though. About a quarter of the northern hemisphere was currently orbiting the planet in a massive ring of debris, and a reddish orange glow radiated outwards from the world's exposed core.
When Spacewarp stopped mid-introduction, Silentsky tilted her head in wonder. At first she could only wonder if Spacewarp was gathering her thoughts before she suddenly projected an imagine from her optics causing Silentsky's gaze to become downcast to peer at it. This seemed almost exactly as she remember Cybertron, before it became a barren wasteland filled with nothing but memories and what had once been...until she looked to the northern hemisphere. No doubt, that was not how Cybertron has appeared when she last saw it.
Certainly, the smaller Seeker was confused to say the least, but her confused expression was hidden behind her visor and face guard. Until Spacewarp clarified to why Cybertron appeared that way. "Then you would be former captain, Spacewarp." Silentsky spoke, more so clarifying this to herself than to Spacewarp. And she soon lifted her head to look back at her fellow femme, "I can assume you left much behind then, wherever it is you came from?" Silentsky inquired further. It was intriguing to think that perhaps there certainly was more than just their own Decepticons, other dimensions they were not aware of.
And Spacewarp was living proof that there was more than they would possibly ever understand.
The projection of Cybertron-Aurex 005.0 Kappa faded slowly several moments later. Silentsky's words stung with a bitter truth. She was a former captain, given that you can't command a navy that doesn't exist anymore. The seeker's words sank in after a moment.
"Left? No. I lost... everything."
Despite such a severe statement, there was no trace of sorrow or scorn in Spacewarp's voice. Her eyes drifted gently away from Silentsky, recollecting her thoughts. When she first found her way to this dimension, the Decepticons had taken her in and repaired her. As her situation was analyzed, she was told that if she pledged herself to them, they would find a way to send her back home. But Spacewarp was no fool. Even if such a feat was possible, no bot in their right mind would waste such a discovery on a single person, regardless of service rendered. She had already accepted it, that there would be no returning home.
"I'll never see the eager and daring faces of my seekers, my flying legions... ever again. My sparkling, who I carried in the hopes of one day replacing me... gone. Every memory... every hardship and joy I've ever experienced... is all that remains of my home."
Her words had cut deeper than Silentsky had intended. From her words, it appeared she had brought old revelations to the surface and she had just might as well have rubbed dirt into bare wounds and make them as painful as the day Spacewarp realized her predicament. Honestly, Silentsky probably could have picked her words better, spoke that statement in a better way than how she just did.
“My apologies for being so brash Spacewarp, that was not my intent.” Silentsky apologizesd, her tone genuine and maybe one of the few who would be willing to admit she had been in the wrong. Because she really had with little thought to what her words could have done. They were just as powerful as silence itself. She even though for a moment before reaching back, grabbing the extendable handle of her spear-staff and holding it horizontal, causing the rest of it to extend. “My pain could never compare to such a loss, but you were gracious enough to tell me such a thing and I was at fault for drawing those memories back.” Silentsky glances back up at her fellow Seeker, having rarely found reason to bring up an old painful memory.
”My mentor too was lost, during the conflicts on Cybertron, our Cybertron. A single headshot by an Autobot for mistaken identity and my reaction was to return the favor before helping the downed Decepticon my mentor had been helping.” Silentsky’s voice was both saddened and angered, having little remorse for the bot she had killed. “He was like a sire to me, the last of our undercover unit on Cybertron I had left and this is his weapon, the last item I have to remember him by.”
Even through it all, Spacewarp could still managed to find some wisdom to impart on others. She placed her hand on Silent's shoulder, looking down at the smaller femme, "Your mentor's memory and spark live on in you, then. I have come to know that so long as the memory remains, nothing is ever truly gone..."
Spacewarp retracted her hand. She'd never been the go-to on her squad for emotional support. Half the time she shoved a rifle in their hands and sent them off to deal with their own problems. Not here, though. She couldn't afford to distance herself from these people, not with ambitions like hers. Spacewarp needed to learn a completely new set of Decepticons, and it all started here.
“Agreed.” Came Silentsky’s simple response. Just as quickly as her emotions had shown, even with the slightest flare of her wings, they were once more hidden and her wings returned to a relaxed state. Now, her tone has returned to an emotionless one, never really trying to show emotion much from the start. Only briefly. It was probably a strange thing for a Seeker not to be talkative or expressive in some way, but she had trained herself to be more controlling of those emotions since she could remember.
Silentsky presses the button that caused the spear-staff to extend to now retract, “But I keep his memory alive by throwing all my time and energy into doing my part for the cause.” She explained to Spacewarp. Not that she would ever admit that she was not as entirely devoted to the cause as most Decepticons might be. She was with this faction for survival and to see her home restored one day more than anything, and for the sole reason of seeing Autobots like the one who had torn her only family away from her fall and burn to ash.
Here came the moment of truth, make or break-time. Spacewarp had intended to go about her self-imposed task with her fellow soldiers, but she had to make it seem less suspicious, lest somebody get the wrong idea. It was feint, but there; a slight whiff of something on the end of Silent's words. It was enough to warrant her further questions.
"Tell me, what do you think of our Air Commander, Starscream?"
It was a little off topic, but if Spacewarp had read her fellow seeker correctly, she'd get a right proper answer.
The response she got was not exactly what Silentsky was expecting. Honestly, it was the most random question of this encounter to the point her wings had given a visible move upwards with surprise. Then again, not very many asked what you thought about superior officers and honestly, Silentsky wasn't sure how to respond. A part of her told her that Spacewarp was genuinely curious and another part of her told her to downplay how she really felt about their Air Commander, mostly for the fact the vast majority of Decepticons weren't opposed to throwing their own under the bus.
Clearing her throat, Silentsky finally tried to answer, "Well, he is a skilled flier, I can say that much." There was some struggle to say anything remotely positive about Starscream, and she was even left tilting her head in thought, trying to think of anything that wouldn't be considered damning on her part. But she had to face it, what more could she say? "But he is a little...loud for my liking, whiny perhaps is the best word for it." She could only shrug, resorting herself to what reaction she may get, "He's an ambitious coward lacking a functioning processor, to be forward ma'am."
Spacewarp could practically see the hesitation dripping from Silent's voice as she tried to say just one positive thing about Starscream. She was loving it, and what came next only solidified her resolve. Silentsky's reservations broke away before her optics, much to Spacewarp's delight. Her face concealed the pleased reaction in a mask of neutral apathy; no need to seem too happy about it.
The old officer folded her hands behind her back, repeating the mantra that had been repeated to her when she became Spacewarp for the first time.
"Mission success and survival hinge on each member of the squadron doing as expected, when it is expected. Failure to do so through negligence, poor timing, or exercise of personal initiative is inexcusable..."
"Starscream taught us that... my Starscream. I wasn't created as a Seeker mind you, I was reformatted when stunt cars stopped being effective against Unicron; I had to learn how to be a Seeker from him."
She turned her head off to the side, taking a moment to collect her thoughts.
"Before he came along, we'd lose scores of our air units to overambitious and distant commanders looking to make a name for themselves. We had to resort to drone units by the time I joined the Decepticons... and now, I see the same happening here."
The fact Spacewarp did not reprimand her for her comments and forwardness was yet again unexpected. In fact, Silentsky could have sworn she saw a bit of happiness and satisfaction with her responses. Perhaps Spacewarp held her own reservations about Starscream as many did, but the real question was to what extent.
Those reservations became clear when Spacewarp gave some insight to her universe's Starscream, one that sounded vastly different from the one they had all come to know. The way Spacewarp described her universe followed by what the Starscream she knew told and taught her, Silentsky couldn't help being fascinated. So, she did what she did best, she listened intently, taking in every word and crossing her arms loosely over her chest while tilting her head once more as she took in every word, imagining such a word in her mind...
Yes, it sounded very much like what was happening. The Decepticon forces had many capable warriors, scientists, specialists, the list could go on. Yet, for some reason, they required almost mindless, personality lacking drones to fill a quota to remotely be an army. Though they could be effective, coordination seemed rather crucial to make those numbers worth while. "When one member cannot accomplish their part of the job the whole unit suffers, and it can cause unfortunate results." Silentsky agreed, recalling numerous times when her mentor, the head of her undercover unit, had recited how important it was for everyone to play their part, to be at the top of their game. If one or two were slacking, it affected everyone.
Nodding to herself, Silentsky had a faint smile but it remained unseen behind her face guard. "If only our Starscream had such wisdom and concern for those under his command, maybe things would be going differently."
