Player Alias: Chris
Character Name: Mason Conner Bailey
Alleigance: Human {Autobot Ally}
Appearance Description:
Mason is a small, pale eleven year old with scraggly brown hair and auburn eyes. Standing a few inches taller than fellow “young kid” Raf, Mason usually stands out from the crowd due to his baggy clothes and hats. He has tons of hats that he collects due to a deep fascination with them. He has practically a hat for every day of the week and occasion.
Personality:
Most would describe Mason as a sweet, polite, and sometimes shy young kid with a big imagination. Diagnosed from a young age with a high functioning form of autism, Mason has many quirks. From his hats, to his spirits of ideas and storytelling he’s always been the type to stand out from the crowd. Even living in a home that cast him out and detested him for the things that made him “different”, Mason has done his best to embrace these qualities.
Once past his shyer, quieter side and quirks, Mason is best described as a goofball. Always having a smile to give someone, or a joke to crack. He subverts most expectations by having a quick witted sense of humor in most senses of the word. More likely to be found goofing around with his friends than he would be spending his time indoors playing video games.
That said, Mason's harder quirks and ticks are there and come out when least expected. Known most for “punishing himself” for doing something wrong by beating himself over the head, or simply checking out completely at random intervals. It’s clear his parents refusal of help has taken a true toll on his psyche and made some of these ticks worse. But Mason does his best to get around them and refuses to let them define who he is a person.
Strengths + Weaknesses:
STRENGTHS
Storyteller: Mason is a gifted and inventive writer and storyteller. Often amazing people with his imagination and general ability to express himself.
Sheer Will To Succeed: Mason could easily let his disability or his past define him, but he refuses. In fact, he uses both to give him the strength to push on and be a stronger person.
Jokester: Mason could easily be a comedian. He knows how to make people laugh as an extension of his storytelling abilities. And this makes it easy for him to break the ice with people as opposed to other people.
Tinkerer: As is implied, Mason’s creativity also makes him a great tinkerer. Often coming up with ideas to help keep his mind stimulated. Whatever he gets his hands on, he can usually do something cool with it.
Optimist: Above all, Mason is an optimistic individual. Always looking for the positives out of life in general.
WEAKNESSES
Episodes: Mason’s ticks, which often lead to episodes, leave him vulnerable at times. Often being hard to bring him out of, unless you know him well.
Naiive: Mason trusts a little too easily. Usually more than willing to put his faith first in people however misguided.
Secretive: Mason is quite good at keeping secrets. As his current situation shows. Which can lead to him being in some bad situations which put him in over his head.
Insecure: Mason is also known for being terribly insecure. Constantly worrying that his ticks or personality become too much for others - and worrying about keeping what friends he has.
Bully Magnet: Unfortunately. His quirks and personality often make him the target of bullies who simply do not or chose not to understand him. Being in special education classes (though not in all subjects) often does not help matters.
Abilities:
Mason is a skilled writer and perhaps budding inventor. Both of which show prominently.
Weaponry:
None yet.
History:
Since the moment he was born, it was obvious Mason was different. Given he did not talk properly until he was two, he was quickly diagnosed with a high functioning form of autism. To his parents, who despite being poor deemed themselves “perfect” this was a hard and jarring blow. And from that moment on, they put Mason bellow his two younger siblings in importance. They did not treat him as equal to them, instead almost treating him as their dirty little secret - which often lead to neglect and sometimes even physical abuse.
None the less, Mason grew up, and mostly looked out for himself. Over the years, he developed storytelling, jokes, and tinkering as coping mechanisms and discovered he was good at all three. Before long, he was surpassing expectations at school, despite some special education classes, and reading and writing above his grade level. It only made him more devestated however as it never made his parents he so desperately wanted to make happy bat an eyelash at him.
Finally, his family fell on even harder times - bankruptcy. Which was when they finally did the one thing he never expected, they packed up overnight, and left - but never took him with them.
Since then, Mason has been on his own. Spending his days squatting in what used to be his home, but is now the foreclosed on house in one of the worst areas in Jasper. He’s had to resort to posing as a homeless kid named “Trent” at a local soup kitchen to eat, and candlelight to do his homework. However, with dwindling supplies and resources, Mason wonders how much longer he can keep this charade up to his teachers and friends. But a deep fear of entering a system who he doubts would try to understand him heavily outweighs his own worries.
After all - he’s only had one person ever looking out for him, himself. And he doubts that’s going to ever change.
