Victory Leo sat legs-crossed in the center of a calm meadow, right at sunset. He couldn't tolerate being near anyone else, not right now. The tranquility of this land had allowed him precious moments of clarity, in which his burning spark was momentarily soothed by a deep connection to the nature around him. That, and there was nobody he could hurt all the way out here. Nothing that could disturb him.
It had been at least several months since Commander Ginrai died and was reborn, yet he still struggled with accepting his resurrection. Even in his old body, he'd never truly possessed this much power; it was overwhelming, to say the least. But with such power came the innate, bestial urge to use it. He wasn't so far gone as to think letting it all out was a good thing; he cursed himself for every outburst, every moment he lost control. But here, he felt at peace again. Balanced.
Another hour of motionless quiet passed before the towering Autobot rose to his feet. His blue gaze watched as the bolt of energy blasted through his chest, in tune with the hooting of the owls. It wasn't real; he knew better, but his body didn't. Victory dropped hard on one knee, clutching his chest in pain. "Gghh... damn it..." The Autobot could still feel his frame melting apart from the LMD blast, a thick, crawling pain going up and down his diodes.
His instincts kicked in, much like they had in Perceptor's lab. Rage was one powerful anesthetic, and Leo's body knew it was time to operate. His frame transformed and shifted, replacing his bipedal frame with that of a lion, bringing the beast out once more. As Victory Leo stood fully transformed once again, he let out a monstrous roar to silence the chattering birds in the distance, his only comfort being the fact that he wasn't near anyone he could hurt.
He’d detected Victory Leo’s landing a week ago and had spent the better part of it searching him out. It had been a long, frustrating task as he knew the mech he’d once known as Ginrai probably didn’t want to be found. If he had he would have probably gone out looking for the other Autobots, or at least commend for them. Neither had ever come however by the time his search brought him to the place the humans called “Yellowstone”.
Then he’d heard the roar.
Of course he knew Victory Leo’s roar by now and without hesitation went in for a closer look. What on Earth was happening? Why was he going berserk? Landing on the ground quickly, he transformed near instinctively. “Stand down, old friend what is wrong?” He asked almost instantly. “This is certainly not the way I wanted to see him again...”
Star Saber, that damned fool. Leo had come here for the explicit purpose of being out of range of those he could harm, and yet he'd followed him anyway. Was he clinging to the notion that Ginrai was still buried deep down inside him? Was Ginrai still in there, somewhere? Victory couldn't ponder that now, not when his meditation had been interrupted.
The massive battlecat turned to face the newest arrival, hackles raised and fangs bared. Star Saber was without question one of his closest friends, close enough to warrant taking a lethal blast in his stead. Ginrai had become Victory Leo not because of Star Saber, but by his own willingness to protect those he cared about. In addition, it was his own decision to allow himself to be reformatted while he was so close to death, yet Star Saber had continued to show concern for his friend up until the end. Leo listed off dozens of reasons not to hate his friend for what he had become over and over again, in a vain attempt to reason with himself. His mind knew that the Autobot standing before him was a friend, but his body refused.
The lion snarled a response back to the Autobot, which quickly grew into a roar. If he hadn't let himself get cornered by Deathsaurus, we wouldn't be in this situation would we? The greatest swordsman in the universe had allowed himself to sacrifice his closest friend to live! As more and more toxic thoughts flooded into his mind, Leo desperately tried to free himself from them. Star Saber was many things but an enemy he was not.
Just as Victory Leo was about to pounce on the swordsman, the pain vanished altogether. The moment had passed, gone like a leaf in the breeze. The lion's claws quickly retreated as he transformed back, leaving him kneeling on the ground. He had come unacceptably close to mauling his closest friend at the drop of a hat; it was disgusting.
With a mighty roar Leo buried his fist into the meadow below, shattering the earth in an angry aftershock, "RRRAAGGH!" Leo let himself stew in it for a moment, using his newfound clarity of mind to center himself again.
Several tense moments passed before the Autobot's arm retracted, "I apologize, Star Saber... I am not used to this new body yet..." he somberly replied, his gaze still cast low.
Both blades came out quickly, definitely not sure what to make of the way his old friend was acting. Was he threatening him? Was he going to up and attack him without warning? Primus, this was not the way that he wanted to see his best friend again by any means. Had he succumbed to the bestial side of his new form? That would not be good.
He relaxed substantially when the mech seemed to calm himself. He lowered his blades, stabbing them into the ground as he approached the mech who had asked for his forgiveness. He vented out a bit, of course not angry by any means but absolutely concerned. Was this a normal occurrence for him?
“It’s fine, old friend, you only startled me,” he explained honestly, trying to keep a smile on his face. Though his concern shone through, even with his visor on. “You’re still struggling then?”
Victory Leo turned his head back up, unable to look away from Star Saber any longer. The towering mech pushed himself to his feet, the aggression having visibly left his body. He flexed his right hand several times, feeling his arm contract each time. It was still him, but his movements felt alien and unnatural. They had been unlearned over the course of his reformatting.
"Every day, it is like I am waging a war with myself. It is... exhausting."
All that pent up rage had taken its toll, leaving Leo looking a bit winded in return. He didn't want this; he'd wanted to live, but not this. It didn't matter now, since it had been his own decision to go through with it.
"I can only hope that I can come to control it, lest it control me."
It was definitely an understandable fact. What Victory Leo had gone through was something that was not easy. Moving from a regular mech to a beastformer that was. A part of him shuddered at the thought of what it may have done to his psyche. But at the same time he didn’t try to dwell on it too much. Unfortunately what was done was done and they all had to live with the consequences, good and bad.
He took a step forward to put a gentle hand on his friends shoulder. Perhaps the comfort of this may have relaxed him a bit, perhaps not. But Star Saber was most certainly willing to try. “I’m sure such control shall come in time my old friend,” he explained gently. “For now, perhaps it would help you to be around others of your kind. We have a base here you know... Further away near a small town named Jasper.”
Of his kind? Other beastformers? Triple changers? Point one percenters? Oh, of course; Autobots. Leo folded his arms in response, preferring to brood a bit under the idea of being brought to a base filled with other Cybertronians. The last time he'd checked, his presence wasn't conducive to the health of his brothers and sisters, especially if his subconscious decided to wrest away motor control again.
"Are you sure you want me in the company of others? I'd imagine there's a lot of important equipment at such a base. It would be a shame if something were to happen to it."
Victory Leo's words echoed from the day he'd been reborn, his first memories in his new form being the near destruction of the operating room he'd awoken in. It was an embarrassment he'd rather not repeat.
