Grimlock was giddy as all heck at Bumblebee's praise. He'd told Dylan all the good things about him? That was so cool! He grinned excitedly, practically bouncing in his Dinobot form. "I'm definitely gonna have to show ya! I'll teach ya how to be the best puncher around!"
Though that chance was likely coming much sooner than he thought. Chromia wanted him to demonstrate his punching abilities, although.. he grew somewhat concerned at her request. "Wait, wait, wait. I gotta punch ya through a car? But.. I don't wanna hurt a lady like you, but.. if you want me to?" The Dinobot transformed into his root mode, punching his fists together.
"Hey Dylan, looks like you're gonna get to see a good punch after all~."
He honestly didn't mind that Rotor was gonna attack Chromia at the same time as he did. If anything else, he could show Rotor some good techniques as well. "Alright, Chromia. Hope you're ready!" Grinning fiercely as he punched his fists together one more time, the Dinobot swung his arm back before running at the blue femme. As he charged, he threw his fist at her as hard as he could. Hopefully she wouldn't be too injured, but she did tell him to!
Bumblebee expected a demonstration sure but...not this. His optics actually widened slightly when Chromia mentioned to Dylan that he had just volunteered Grimlock for the demonstration. Not just any form of demonstration, she wanted Grimlock, their heavy hitter, to punch her and even suggested Rotor join in...
Shock quickly turned into intrigue soon enough. Cybertronians could appear much tougher and stronger than what appeared on the surface, and the lieutenant couldn't help wondering if maybe Chromia was toying with them, intending to pull out a trick of her own. Because honestly, Windblade had given very little about Chromia from the start. Only what to look for in recognizing the femme and that she was Caminus just as the seeker was. To say the least, Bumblebee had to see this.
Putting away the data pad for the time being, Bumblebee walked over to stand beside Dylan, his optics fixed on the two as they prepared to punch the newest recruit. "Ten bucks says they won't get her to the rusted truck." The muscle car muttered towards Dylan, his door wings going up as his two teammates made their move to punch the blue femme. Now they were just waiting for the outcome...until the sound of a jet engine filled his audios, causing Bumblebee to tilt his head slightly and catching sight of a familiar jet.
"And the audience grows." He remarked, giving a side glance to the demonstration going on.
Another uneventful patrol, another (so far) uneventful day. There were times Windblade was thankful she had permission to travel the globe, at least that tended to get her distracted and doing something. Staying local limited her chance to perform her real mission here on Earth which was why she often didn't remain for more than a few weeks at a time unless the need was truly dire. And as of late it hadn't been.
Only reason Windblade stayed however, was because of a certain blue femme she had reconnected with recently. She knew her Amica Endura was suppose to be coming around at some point, join their team as an instructor of sorts and help whip the team into shape. It honestly made Windblade mentally smirk in amusement, recalling her many hard days of training with Chromia herself. She was always strict, nose to the grind stone, and rough around the edges, but that had never stopped Windblade somehow getting past that exterior and embracing Chromia as one of her closest friends and confidantes. Because the Camien seeker had to admit, there were few bots she trusted as much as she trusted Chromia.
Though as she was flying towards the Scrapyard, a familiar scent caught her attention and Windblade extended her senses slightly. She heard some familiar voice and one or two she was not overly familiar with. But there, there was that one voice she would identify a thousand miles away. "Huh, if I had known she was coming today I would have stuck around." Windblade said to herself, picking up the speed until she could be heard soaring above the Scrapyard, circling it a few times before she transformed and dropped down to land a few feet from Bumblebee and Dylan, her optics going over what was happening before her.
Oh, she knew what Chromia was up to. She had seen her ask for this particular action to be done countless times before, causing a slight grin come to her face plates, "Never changes."
Oh yeah, he was definitely going to enjoy learning to fight from Grimlock. He was looking forward to being able to defend himself better and hopefully it would be a start. Though he was surprised by the comment from Chromia? Was she nuts? And through a car? He raised his eyebrows high in response to that, really beyond curious as to what she was getting at. “Wait you actually want them to punch you as hard as they can?” He asked for clarification. “I don’t feel like this is going to go well and I’m not sure which party it will suck for.”
Of course Bumblebee wanted to throw a bet in the ring. And Dylan did have a thing for small bets, so why not make this interesting after all? He rubbed his chin. “Alright, you’re on. But I get a feeling I’m gonna regret that,” he admitted honestly, having a seat near Bee’s foot to get comfy for what - one way or another, was going to be a show.
Windblade’s arrival did surprise him. He hadn’t ever met the swordswoman, knowing her only by her reputation alone. But he could already tell it proceeded her. “I take it that’s Windblade?” He looked her up and down as he asked Bee. “She looks even tougher than I imagined.” He admitted.
If Chromia had noticed Windblade's arrival at all, she would've whistled back to her. She hadn't however, as she was completely and utterly entranced. Windblade would've known precisely what state her Amica was in; she'd taught her that very same technique, after all. Her brain module was in the process of thinking several million light-years per second, though not a single thought occupied that space.
Chromia was empty.
She stood before Grimlock and Rotor, her stance dropping and loosening at their imminent attack. She didn't know how she was going to respond to their combined strike, though the Autobot didn't really need to. Even thinking about the fact that she wasn't consciously aware of it was unnecessary. Like a beautiful, scentless flower, Chromia stood motionless before the oncoming storm, proclaiming nothing.
By the time she began to think coherent thoughts again, Chromia was already standing behind her attackers. She turned to look upon them, the glint of sentience returning to her optics.
Without even a thought, she had grabbed Rotor's fist as a beam to balance herself on, using her substantial upperbody strength to hoist herself up off the ground. Chromia had then pushed herself out of the way of Rotor's punch, directly into the path of the slower, albeit stronger Autobot's fist. There wasn't enough time to dodge it the same exact way. In the time that her foot would have touched the ground again, Grimlock's blow would have connected, and Chromia would've been put through the truck.
She had been absolutely ready to take the punch. One of Tekkaido's strongest values was acceptance; you needed to be 110% willing to take the full force of an enemy's attack in order to evade it flawlessly. Chromia, in her trance, hadn't flinched. She grabbed Grimlock's shoulder in much the same way she'd grabbed Rotor. Only this time, Chromia's arm was completely stiff. She used the Dinobot's massive momentum to give herself enough torque to sail over his bulky shoulder, and out of harm's way.
In the span of time between a human's blink, she'd descended down Grimlock's back as if it were a staircase, stepping off of his heel to land right where she'd initially been standing.
Chromia could've easily just taken both punches without giving an inch, she certainly had the power to. But, even though Bumblebee had asked her to show the group what she could do, she wasn't here to 'join' them. She was here to teach them. Tekkaido could be taught, both herself and Windblade were living proof of that. In contrast, an Outlier's signature ability could not.
Though she really wanted to show it off, anyway.
The blue femme's optics blinked themselves out of their martial arts-induced haze, shaking her back to reality. She turned to stare back at Bumblebee, speaking without a hint of pride or even bravado in her voice at all, "If I can teach a daydreaming Cityspeaker how to do that, I can teach you all, too."
"Hey Windblade~" she added, turning her head to smile at her best friend.
Vrrrr! Went her elbow mounted blades that pushed her fist through the air with more force. She really wanted to push Chromia back into that truck and show how strong she truly was!
Swoosh swoosh swoosh went her elbow blades as she seemed to slow down, unknowing of what Chromia had planned. She had fully expected a shield front to take the brunt of their attack. So much so that she took a step forward to help shove more weight in. Yet the end result was the blades yanking her forward to a ghost cloud of Chromia! Hey wait a minute, this ain't solid.
...But the ground is as she finds her blades making several scars along the ground and fist embedded in the ground. That visor turned this way and that as she tries to find Chromia, only to find a piece of scrap metal launched and stuck within an O on a sign.
"W-whaaat" Her voice cracked now as she grew nervous,"Did we punch her into dust? I'M SORRY!" She hears Chromia's voice and rolled over to see her, relaxing, then panicking at the massive green above her!
Grimlock threw his punch along with Rotor, fully expecting to actually nail Chromia. He didn't want to hurt her, but she had insisted that they do this little exercise to show her what they were capable of. The Dinobot wasn't quite sure if the femme was just crazy or if she was crazy in love with fighting like he was.
Either way, it was all over quicker than Grimlock could even comprehend.
"Huh?!" Before he knew it, Chromia had not only dodged Rotor, but had also managed to scale right over him! The poor Dinobot didn't know what to even do with that, confused as he looked right to her. She'd been so fast and nimble.. Graceful even! He couldn't stop his own momentum in time, flailing his arms before falling flat on his faceplate. Lucky for Rotor, he had managed to miss her in the process.. albeit the fact he came close.
He listened as the blue femme declared she could teach the entire team how to dodge like that, Grimlock sitting up as he rubbed his helm.
"I dunno if I could do that. I mean.. I'm much bigger than you guys! I could probably step over ya though."
Thanks to all the commotion with Chromia most of the Junkyard's inhabitants failed to notice the ground bridge opening and a small, brown dinosaur jumping through.
Dinobot wasn't a fan of big, loud arrivals such as the space and ground bridges and almost instinctively revelled in the distraction which let him jump out and dart into the shadows to survey his surroundings. He was good at that, even when his apt mode was a massive excavator.
He watched Chromia vault over the two giant Autobots with distinct agility and grace. Tekkaido, he recognized the form although had never pursued it himself. Metalliko and his own tricks and moves had been enough before but the game was different now, it wouldn't hurt to add to his repertoire. The Techno-Organic stepped out of the shadows, surveying the fallen Autobot with interest. "I've seen Decepticons in giant mechanical suits sprint through the battlefield slicing people to chunks with expert precision and grace. Your size does not factor into Tekkaido, am I right?" He glanced towards Chromia at the last part, figuring paraphrasing what little of The Tekkaido Handbook he remembered would make him seem more knowledgeable in the subject.
Bumblebee had to blink and focus his optics a few times, making sure he wasn’t just seeing things. Chromia had not just dodged Rotor and Grimlock, she had downright redirected one and vaulted herself right over the other. It had been in the blink of an eye, having to watch closely otherwise you wouldn’t believe it. He kept shifting between his current teammates and back to Chromia, trying to comprehend what had just happened.
Shaking off the utter shock he was in Bumblebee cleared his vocalizer before he attempted to speak, but what came out was nothing but static, causing him to wince. The old scarring acted up again, causing him to rub his neck a bit in a futile attempt to smooth it. This couldn’t have been worse timing, looking down in embarrassment when another attempt to clear his throat only earned him another small bit of irritation. Just his luck, his vocalizer choosing the worst time to shorten out briefly. And he didn’t know if he could call it brief at times.
Sighing, the mech reflexively clicked his face guard into place, too embarrassed to not use it with his alternative communication methods. “{That was amazing! You definitely have to teach us Chromia, whenever you have the time of course. Windblade has been speaking highly of you since you found her, and from what I just saw I would say you definitely have the skills to back up her claims.}” Ugh, so embarrassing. Would she even understand a slagging word he even said? Not everyone did and that was what was the most frustrating part thanks to Megatron in the past and his own need to prove himself so long ago to undergo that fateful mission. But, to coincide with his words the mech’s door wings had flicked with enthusiasm and he used some of the sign language he had been learning over the years to hopefully translate what he was saying better.
There were some days the yellow mech wished he could just have his voice back entirely, despite not knowing how he got it back in the first place.
Windblade watched the display with a wide grin plastered on her face. She had known that gaze, the haze Chromia went into when she was utterly and totally focused. Yea, she knew this stance, this behavior, all too well herself since the femme had done the exact same thing to her many times in the past, especially when she had first been taken under the blue femme’s wing.
Chromia had taught her Tekkaido personally, but it was not something she used all too often. Not unless when she truly fell into such a similar trance during a confrontation, much preferring to to think in the moment and fully aware. But then again, Windblade had fallen into similar state of mind, fully aware of what was happening as if everything went in slow motion. So, maybe she used the fighting form in more ways than one and she was not always fully aware she was. Then again, with Chromia acting as her mentor long ago she had to learn to be prepared for anything.
“Had to show off a little huh?” Windblade mused towards her Amica, coming over to the blue femme’s side and resting as hand on her friend’s shoulder with a soft chuckle. “Oh come on, I wasn’t that bad! Mostly.” Of course, the Camien seeker would play off just how bad she use to be, not wanting to completely admit she had been pretty bad when she dreamt of bigger and grander things beyond her home. Still she couldn’t help her small grin that remained before she looked towards the Dinobot.
“You would be surprised Grimlock. We have others on Caminus about your size and bulk that can do similar or the same feats. It just would take quite a bit of practice...and bruises.” Windblade consciously rubbed her arm and flicked her wings at recollecting those many times she had been in a similar position as Grimlock and Rotor, and still often was. “Chromia is one of the best teachers for Tekkaido and other fighting forms back on Caminus, she’ll whip you into shape before you know it.” Even if Chromia did not speak with pride about her accomplishments, that wasn’t stopping Windblade from speaking highly of her friend and with equal awe as well.
Chromia stood quietly with a mixture of pride and happiness as Windblade sung her praises. She certainly didn't feel bad about her student speaking so highly of her master, in fact she loved it. In a weird way, having one's student be chosen by Primus himself to undertake a mission earned her some strange second-hand congratulations. "You guys have no idea," she began, circling around Windblade. "She used to go on and on about making third place in a planet-wide martial arts competition..."
She was exaggerating to a degree; Windblade had only mentioned it once as far back as she could remember. Still, it used to be her only accolade, which Chromia had thought was precious. "Oh, that wasn't showing off. It'd be showing off if it was something only I could do," she replied, nudging Windblade's wing. Her Tekkaido had been something they'd both worked on, together. It was as much Windblade's achievement as it was her own.
Chromia turned to Bumblebee, getting the rough gist of his message. She was beginning to reap the rewards of that elective, after all. "The core principles are easy to understand, and I-... we can teach them to you without getting into the heavier stuff."
