From a distance, there wasn't anything particularly remarkable about the island. It had never been inhabited, had no notable fauna aside from a few species of pacific crab that occasionally scuttled ashore. It had never been charted by any map makers, merchants or warships. To the rest of the world it was an insignificant mound of rock and sand. But to those who looked closer, it was something more. None of the fauna on the island ever withered, or changed for that matter. Through even the highest of waves and angriest of storms nothing could uproot them, not to mention they were living off of hardly any nutrients. Though out of everything, the feint patterns of circuits plastered over each and every one of them was probably the most defining aspect.
The island had been this way for about sixty six years, and counting. It had been that way ever since a little green spaceship had crashed on it, staining its clean beaches with smoke and soot. For the humans, there was hardly anything of importance on the island at all, besides perhaps the cave system beneath. For a Cybertronian however, the distinct signature of an abundance of raw Energon beneath the island might've been noteworthy as well.
But at the same time he was already in a lot of trouble for what he pulled with Sari, so what was a little more? No one had been around when the signal showed up, and he had learned how to work the ground bridge stealthily. So really, it was hardly hard to sneak out - it was the Autobots fault for being so damn easy.
Besides he had a lot to prove here. Even if the others might not have thought so, he did. He’d been captured, tortured, and a whole lot of other things. He needed to prove to these guys, especially the Wreckers that he wasn’t a weak person, that he was a worthy Autobot and this was just... a setback. Sadly he did not know where he was when he came through, however, at least not what island he was on.
Well that backfired quickly.
Chris stepped forward a bit more looking around. “Hello!?” He shouted - maybe sounding a little too eager, but who cared? The island didn’t look huge, it would hardly be hard for him to be heard. “Anyone here!? Damn if that stupid ground bridge sent me to the wrong place.”
The wind was certainly blowing, but not loud enough as to drown out the response to Chris's inquiry.
::Deet::
A lone beep was the answer that the hybrid had been seeking, coming from the gently hovering drone, floating in front of the entrance to what appeared to be a cave. It certainly wasn't hostile, as it wasn't opening fire on the island's interloper, nor was it wearing a Decepticon badge. The little drone simply observed Chris for a few moments more, before it quietly retreated into the mouth of the cave system behind it.
Windshear made his way through the tunnels back to his master, not really caring if the human followed or not. He knew his master, and she could handle just about anything this planet could dish out, if the trespasser's intentions were malicious.
The light flowing in from the mouth of the cave betrayed its splendor, filled with rich mineral deposits, painting the walls of the cavern like a beautiful mosaic of color. A great deal of vegetation crept through the caves as well, their bio-luminescence lighting the way further down...
Was that... a drone? What the heck was a drone doing out here? He tilted his head a bit, it was definitely weird looking for a drone, but he had a feeling that was the purpose of it all the same. He cautiously took a few steps forward, watching as it moved for the cafe. Ok at this point he wasn’t sure what he should do. Go inside? Run away? He saw more than a few horror movies that started like this after all and he didn’t really want to die!
Ah what the heck did he have to lose?
He started toward the cave slowly, allowing the light to guide him. Was this thing leading him somewhere? Or was it totally leading him to death? He wasn’t sure and the idea both interested and scared him. “You know this would be really cool if I was Alice and entering Wonderland,” he joked. “So where are you...? Whoa!”
Ok that cave with all the minerals? That was pretty cool, he he also had a feeling things could get bad. Not that he minded - he was ready to prove himself in any way possible. “Ok this is really cool...” he mutttered. “Is somebody in here?” He called out again.
Chris's response wasn't met with what he'd perhaps been hoping for. Instead, the only response he was given was a low humming noise, coming further down the cavern. The source of said humming would be revealed to be scores of bright blue crystallized energon deposits. They grew around what appeared to be the very same plants found above ground, up on the island's beaches, and in some cases the plants had absolutely tangled some of the larger deposits.
At the very end of the energon cavern sat Windshear, defiantly hovering in place to obstruct passage into what appeared to be the darker portion of the caves. In truth, he was simply waiting. The drone had already called his master from deeper down in the caverns, and was now acting as a beacon. Once again, his lone green eye trailed Chris as he moved through the room, recalcitrant at his post.
The sound of soft but substantial footsteps echoed past Windshear, coming from the pitch black darkness behind him. Before long, a pair of piercing-green optics began to shine through the shadows, bobbing up and down as if walking. A tall, wiry figure emerged from the shadows which Windshear regarded instantly. The little drone swiveled around to mount himself upon his master's chest once more, which left Chris and the strange figure completely alone.
"Hello there!" the figure greeted, her voice upbeat and uplifting.
Chris was definitely having second thoughts at the humming. If was all becoming insanely creepy to him with every passing second. Again every horror movie scenario quietly went through his head. Did he run away screaming after all though? Nope. Instead he continued on down the cave toward the light. Feeling like he was the definition of a moth being dropped to a flame at this point. Well, at least if he died he’d get to look at something pretty he figured - or at least he thought so.
He was not really ready for the appearance of Botanica.
It made him jump back a bit as she exited from the shadows. Which might have contributed to him getting a bit freaked out. But he relaxed a bit at the jovial voice and calm demeanor. Oh thank God, it was an Autobot after all, or so he hoped. “God I need to stop letting Dylan talk me into horror movies,” he muttered under his breath. “Heya! Are you the one that sent out the signal to the Autobots?” He questioned.
It was really all he could manage as he calmed himself down.
A human! And he had a spark! Such a curious turn of events. Windshear's concerns were unfounded as always, though she still cherished her friend's analysis of the situation. As she gazed down upon the human, Botanica realized this had been the first time in over half a century that she'd had guests over! The island must have looked a mess, what with never having a reason to tidy it up to begin with. There was only so much she could do while devoting so much time to finding a way home.
"Autobots? Signal?" So there were Autobots on Earth, from what Botanica could ascertain from a single mention. The techno-organic tapped a long finger against her chin for a moment, her optics cast towards the roof the cavern, submerged in thought. "I didn't send out a signal, nor did I know of any Autobots on Earth...."
Then, like a neutrino it hit her, although this time she was perfectly aware of it doing so. "Oh! I believe you're talking about the Chronodynamic Field Generator! I had thought it would give off a distinct energy fluctuation that an observer might interpret as a disturbance, nay, a signal."
A single beep from Windshear brought Botanica out of the beginnings of another rant, catching her by surprise. "Oh, dear me, I'm sorry. Where are my manners? I am Botanica, Maximal Chief Researcher, pleasure to meet you!"
He didn’t even know where to begin, whether it was all the big words that he didn’t understand. Or the fact there was now another faction to keep track of: Maximals. Man how many of these people were out there? The first three and neutrals had been a lot to take in as it was. Or was this just a different type of Cybertronian? Like the Predacons, who he sort of took as their own faction given they were created in a lab at this point. He rubbed the temples of his forehead slightly, and attempted to make sense of it.
And how did she not know there were others on Earth. “Whoa, hold up. It was a what? I’m sorry I’m still new to half of this stuff so I’m really not following,” he then added. “I haven’t heard of a Maximal before either. What does that mean? Are you like some other type of Cybetronian? Well I mean obviously you are. But you’re the first I haven’t seen call themselves Autobot, Decepticon, Neutral, or a Predacon.” He pointed out.
When he realized he hadn’t given his name yet he finally added. “I’m uh... Chris, I guess I’m technically a “youngling” but I’m still learning the Cybertronian terminology.” He decided not to reveal he was half-Cybertronian yet. Better not to in case this person really was a foe. “How long have you been here? It doesn’t look like you just got here.”
Botanica gave a gentle chuckle at Chris's understandable confusion. He was actually quite adorable, even if he wasn't attempting to come off in such a way. Such an uncertain little boy, she thought. That uncertainty was cause for investigation, no doubt. Botanica began to slowly float upwards, until she was about a foot off the ground, producing a gentle current of air outwards beneath her. She circled around her island-guest for a moment, green optics taking in every seen and unseen detail. She would need to ask him how he knew what Predacons were, but perhaps that line of questioning could be held off for later. Her Megatron and his legions were the least of her concerns at the moment.
The hovering plant-robot reached her conclusion after an appropriate amount of bio-metric scanning. The way he carried himself, his eyes, and his bright spark were all she needed to see. Botanica smiled softly at the boy, reaching down to let her index finger rest on his chest. "It seems we're the same kind of Cybertronian, my young friend." Her touch was noticeably non-metallic. Botanica felt like she had an actual, biological warmth radiating off of her. She drew back as he asked his next question, her answer already prepared.
"Sixty six years, and counting!" she beamed proudly.
