Jet tried to relax his hold on his rifle and take deep breaths.
A part of him wished Bluestreak had been there to see him off, maybe give those pep talks he’s always been good at. But without it? He felt nervous as a turbo fox during hunting season.
Optimus had given him the same chance of making it into the Autobots as any other recruit, to be fair. But at the same time - he had the same opinion that it didn’t put him on different footing than any other recruit. Jet didn’t want to be babied - he was there to prove that he was capable of more than the human world would ever allow of him. And if he wasn’t... Well, it would leave him even more confused on his identity than he’d gone in - but he would respect their decision. At least they hadn’t written him off.
It had still been a bit before they’d let Jet into the field to show them what he could do. A moment he’d waited for, and dreamt of his whole life. It wasn’t anything big - and Jet knew chances were he wouldn’t even see a Decepticon. But getting Energon was something he’d grown up knowing was important to Autobot life so he didn’t downplay it like others might. He was just honored to be given the chance to do anything. But it didn’t make his stomach less tight as he breached the entrance of the cave.
Primus, he just hoped he didn’t make an idiot out of himself.
Jet surveyed his surroundings quietly. He knew he didn’t have built in scanners like a regular Autobot but he was usually sharp eyed. And almost instantly, he quietly noticed a pair of vehicon guards. Jet frowned a bit, taking cover behind a stone as he turned on his earpiece which had been wirelessly connected to his comm link. :Alright Skids, I got two Decepticon guards. No signs of traps, fairly easy entry,: he spoke into his comm, having been paired up with him on this mission. :Do I wait for a signal or can I incapacitate them? Already have a few ideas.:
Specifically his eyes were on two low hanging stalagmites just big enough to do some damage.

Skids had found it agreeable that the odd human recruit be given a chance to prove himself. He wasn't like the other humans, who had just fallen in. He wanted to be a soldier. Which, in Skids' opinion, was crazy, but who was he to judge?
Why he had been selected as the proctor for this little exam, he wasn't sure. He was incredibly versatile as a combatant, sure. Infiltration was his specialty, at least, he thought it was, and he was a good fighter. Plus...he'd give a fair assessment. Alright, maybe that was why.
At the moment, he was sitting tight, hidden in the terrain within sight of the mine but out of sight of anyone who may be watching. When Jet commed, the bot tilted his head to the side just slightly, observing the entrance.
::If you think you can do it quickly and quietly, take them out. Anything too loud will draw more.::
He slipped out of his hiding place, as quietly as a being his size could. While this was Jetblaze's show, there was no way he was leaving the human to fend for himself against Decepticons. No offense to him, but, Skids had seen much bigger, stronger, tougher bots dragged down by a few well-placed shots.
He moved closer to the mine entrance, keeping to the side and out of immediate view, his signal masked.

Jet grimaced.
Quiet - right. That made things a little harder he figured. But he also knew that as a new recruit he had to follow orders. He'd pretty much expected to follow Skids' lead on this one, which was a bit... New. He'd always been the nervous type, but typically he was also the type of guy to stick to his gut.
So how did he do this quickly and quietly?
On one hand he could just leave it to Skids. But he'd be slagged if he didn't do something on this mission that made him stand out. If he didn't then why the frag was he here? If he wasn't willing to do creative thinking, he might as well turn back now and go right back to Bluestreak. And Primus forbid he end up going back and proving himself not worthy.
And so, with a sharp intake of breath he moved closer to the mine. As expected the vehicons moved a little at the noise, but probably thought of him as only a critter somewhere inside. :Well, that leaves out my initial idea. But I've still got an idea. But I did come a bit prepared,: Jet noted, going into the pocket of his belt and taking out one of his mini-EMPs. :I was saving this for a jam, but... I didn't bring two for nothing.:
Pressing the top of the device, he carefully tossed it at the feet of the two vehicons. It clicked and beeped quietly, but by the time either noticed, the jolt of electricity that shot forth had sent them collapsing into stasis. "Slag, these things really aren't intelligent, are they?" Jet snorted a bit.
:Took 'em out. Not sure how long it will last though. So we should probably get a move on,: Jet noted over the comm as he kept his eyes peeled. :I'm not liking the quiet. I may not know the Decepticons first-hand... But there's no fragging way they were protecting nothing out here.:

As soon as Skids heard the twin thuds of the Vehicons falling, he slipped out of cover, entering the mine and moving to stand not far from Jet. He glanced down at the Vehicons and gave an approving nod.
"Nice work," he kept his voice low, "And you're right. According to my scanners, there's energon further back... But, they aren't actively mining, which means there's not much, or, they just found it. Let's hope it's the last one."
He began to move forward.
"Let's be fast, before Soundwave notices that their guards are down."
