Characters: @dylanlogan Location: Autobot base Recreation Room Content Warnings: shock and fear at the begining but the rest is happy. Plot Summary: The Sparkling discovers the recreation room, and soon a new friend.
Tap, tap, tap, little pedes walked the metallic floor beneath her feet as she once more chose to explore her new home. She had already made one friend doing this, and her new friend’s daddy. So she wanted to go explore again, who knows who she’ll meet next, and if there was one thing she knew, is that everyone who went to this place, so far was a nice person.
The room was large, which it would be since large Mech and Femme’s had to be able to go there, but this room, was the recreation room, a place where people gathered for fun. As she looked around, her optics found a curious looking object, it was round, with some bumps on it, as well as lines. She didn’t know it yet, but this was a basketball. A smile formed on her metallic lips before it changed to a shocked expression.
A glitch in her servos, caused the ball to fall, and Voltwave let out a scream of fear, and sadness since she was certain it would break. When it bounced back up, she squeaked in shock as she caught It in her hands. She stared at the odd thing, looking at it, wondering if she should let it drop again. She was scared she might break it.
Dylan hated how complicated adoption got when you got closer to it.
He had just gotten back from yet another meeting with his social worker for one of three final evaluations. One of the bigger conditions of this whole thing. He was being monitored, he knew that, to make sure this was all going smoothly. But God, he hated being interviewed a lot - about just about everything. Given his social worker wasn't exactly thrilled with his placement as he'd like.
So when he'd returned to base later that afternoon he knew he had to relax. Or at least needed to calm down and do something to get his mind off of it. So he'd immediately headed for the rec room in time to hear the shriek.
Dylan nearly jumped himself, rushing inside. He wondered if one of the sparklings was hurt? Oh man, that was the last thing they... His panic was short lived as he noticed what was happening. The bouncing basketball, and the confused look in the sparkling's optics. It wasn't one that he'd ever seen before - which equally made him relax as he didn't even know who to go get if not.
Taking a deep breath, he began the approach, being careful not to startle it. "Hey, it's OK... Don't be scared. The ball's supposed to bounce like that," Dylan explained as he let it bounce to his foot before kicking it up into his hands. "Huh, go figure I left this in here... I was wondering where I left it."
He then looked at the sparkling carefully. "It's uh... A ball. You play it." he tried telling her, not sure if he was totally petrifying her - he was usually with adult Bots when they were around.
The sphere-shaped thing bounced, and it made a sound too, which was funny. Though her attention was soon caught by, well she didn’t know what he was since she hadn’t yet met a human before. He was her size, so there was one thing she could only assume he was. Her optics blinked when he asked her not to be afraid, and he explained that the ball was supposed to bounce. A smile formed on her lips at this important info. She needn’t worry about it breaking since it was supposed to bounce.
She was happy to hear this, and she watched as he kicked the ball up into his hands. He started speaking again, but she felt confused since she didn’t think he was talking to her but the ball. …was the ball sentient?
Volt blinked when he told her that the ball was to play with. “Play is fun!” she said, stating the obvious, then she decided she had to ask that important question “you ‘parkling?” came out of her mouth and she waited for his answer before she remembered an equally important thing, her introduction “I Volt,” she said. From his words of asking her not to be afraid, told the young sparkling that he was a good person since Ratchet said the same thing when she had met him didn’t he? Yes, she was certain of it!
Behind her, her doorwings twitched with the excitement of meeting a possible new friend as she stood there, waiting for his next move.
Had she just asked if he was a sparkling? That was sort of a loaded question. In a way he could be considered one in a lot of eyes and optics. He was small, and being taken care of by the Autobots. He lived there, but also didn’t have a “job”. So in a way he could be considered one, but on the other hand he was human and obviously a teenager so the answer was... Not really though he wished. He’d always really wished he’d been on Cybertron - feeling displaced.
He decided to lay this down in simple terms. “No I’m a human... But I’m a kid like you, I guess,” he explained - making sure she understood that so there wasn’t confusion in the future. “I uh... Live here, I’m being taken care of by the Autobots,” he added - not yet able to say totally that his dad was one yet.
Yet he reminded himself, soon he would. No one was going to stop that.
He spun the ball on his finger a bit as he talked, looking at the sparkling. “I’m Dylan by the way, who are you?” He asked politely. Trying to be as warm and friendly as he could be.
Voltwave found herself tilting her head as her mind processed what he had called himself. Human was definitely a new word. She smiled when she was told that not only was he living here, but that he was being taken care of by the Autobots. They took care of her too, in making sure she had Energon, and that she was taken care of, medically. “The Autobots are good!” she piped up the universal truth.
This guy, this Dylan was cool. She watched him spin that ball she had found on a finger. She hadn’t thought to do that, maybe it was an important sign or something. “hii Dy-lan” she said and carefully sounded his name out. He was nice, so she wanted to show she was making an effort to remember his name, soon she will be able to say it without sounding it out.
Volt smiled, she was sure she introduced herself, but it’s possible that he got distracted or something. “I Volt-wave, nice to meet you!” she said
Yep the Autobots were most definitely “good”. After all there had been a reason he had spent the better part of his time there wishing he were living among them. And now, well, he finally had his chance and despite the opposition at least things were going semi-good. So long as no one attempted anything seriously endangering to the idea. “Yeah they’re pretty great. Though you wouldn’t believe that talking to some jerks in the government.” He said that without thinking that the sparkling had no idea what that was.
Voltwave? Ok that was helpful. Though he still hadnt exactly heard of the little femme. Which made it hard to gage whose kid she was - if anyone’s. He hadn’t yet heard that the Autobots had taken in any orphaned Autobots on top of the number of humans that had apparently been joining them recently. “It’s nice to meet you too Voltwave,” he offered. “So does anyone, y’know, know you’re out and about like this?” He questioned rather honestly.
Most kids were honest to a fault, maybe she would be too.
Voltwave smiled when Dylan agreed with her, that the Autobots were great. What he said next though caused her to tilt her head in confusion. She had never heard the word Jerks before, nor the word Government. Dylan was a nice guy, maybe Jerks and Government were bad people, still, she decided to ask about them, just to be safe. “What Jerks? And what Gov-um Govvy!” she asked Government was a rather big word.
Her head righted itself with the change in topic. She smiled when he said it was nice to meet her as well. Though, For a moment she felt fear, no one knew she was out and about, she wasn’t sure if that was naughty or not since she hadn’t been thinking because she just wanted to explore. She shook her head”nuh uh, Volt go esplore quietly, didn’t want to bother grownups. “ She confessed. She figured that was nice of her right? Not disturbing the grownups who might be busy. She chose to be honest too since something told her lying was bad.
An idea popped into her head “wanna esplore with me?!” she asked him before she looked at the basketball “oh, can ya teach me how to play with that?’ she asked him. She knew that many would be concerned that she would be out exploring. But perhaps they’d feel better if she was in one place having fun.
