Characters:Voltwave Location: Optimus Prime's Office, Autobot Outpost Content Warnings: n/a Plot Summary: Optimus returns to his office only to discover a tiny sparkling curled up in his chair.
He'd stepped out to walk around while he read one of his reports, nothing unusual. He'd left his office unlocked in order to easily go back in without breaking his stride when he returned. So far nobody had dared prank him so he felt as though it was safe enough to keep his door unlocked provided he wouldn't be gone long. What he found on his return gave him immediate pause. A tiny little femme was curled up in his office chair, which was massive compared to her, at least halfway in recharge. His work was immediately placed on the desk and forgotten as he circled around and carefully scooped the lost sparkling into his hand and then against his chassis where she could be warm.
"Now who do you belong to, little one?" He asked, voice kept soft and soothing in case she woke up. Certainly someone was looking for her, she was too young to be without a creator. Perhaps this was one of the little ones born on base? Nightshade or Sagitta were the femme sparklings, he believed. He'd been reviewing a list of them all, and it was amazing to him how many of his soldiers had started forming families on this planet. He'd just reached Prowl's twins when he'd discovered the little one, so there was every chance she was somewhere on that list.
The big mech rocked where he stood, not having the spark to make her wake up but wanting to talk to her and see if she knew who her creators were so he could return her. Sparklings wandered, it was a thing. That was okay. He was a little anxious as well. He was a very big mech and she was fragile, he didn't want to hurt her even accidentally. "I'm sorry, but I need you to wake up now."
A couple minutes earlier, she had gone exploring again, wandering the halls of her new home. She chose a different route this time, and in doing so, she found herself in what was clearly an office. She’d seen something similar in ratchets room, but she was nowhere near close to the medical area of the base. So she wandered in, and then eventually got the courage to climb up onto the chair, where she sat. It was a coincidence that this was the office of Optimus Prime because she decided she had to pretend she was a boss herself. “You do good!” she said, pointing at an imaginary Cybertronian “you do good too!” she said to another imaginary Cybertronian, until she got bored, and eventually tired. It was, after all, difficult work pretending to be a boss.
Thoughts of how much trouble she’d be in didn’t enter her mind as she laid down for a stasis-nap, getting some much-needed recharge in the process. A second later she was asleep, her thumb making its way to her mouth, in order for her to suck on it as she slept.
The door opening had soon begun to interrupt her recharge, but it was being lifted that really did it. When she opened her optics, she saw someone’s head and their chassis. She could see this wasn’t a small mech, but a big one. This also meant she was high up, so she decided not to look behind her, just focus on the big Mech. She snuggled close to his chassis where it was comfortable and warm.
She unleashed upon the leader of the Autobots, the most powerful weapons in her little arsenal. She smiled at him when she looked up at his face. “hiii!” she greeted, smiling at him. She knew she hadn’t met this guy before, but since he didn’t try to hurt her, she knew that he must be good. It was natural for her to think this. Unfortunately, since she was just waking up when he first started speaking t her, she didn’t remember the question.

Optimus felt his features soften as the little one cuddled in against him, shifting her so that he had a good hold and there was no way he'd drop her. And Primus she was tiny! It had been a long time since he'd been near sparklings, especially ones this young. And just where had she come from? Where were her creators, and how had she gotten into the room? He hadn't locked it so she could have followed someone in but...what if she'd gotten stepped on?
He vented, settling himself before he ended up in a loop of anxiety over this little femme. And it could certainly happen, he liked sparklings. He'd always pictured himself raising one back before the war started, when he'd just been Orion and he'd had a stable path to his life. Now, as a leader as well a soldier, he wasn't so sure he was suitable to raise a sparkling.
"Hello." He'd woken her, which made him feel bad, but she did need to get back to her creators. He imagined with her being this young they were frantic to find her. "I am Optimus. What do you call yourself, little one?" He'd start there, work his conversation towards her creators. She needed to know he would protect her first. Sparklings responded to things like that, didn't they? He needed to do some research with all the small ones on base.
It was very fortunate, that the little femme hadn’t gotten stepped on because that would have been very bad indeed for both her and the one who had accidentally done so. It probably was one of the reasons why Sparklings were supposed to be kept safe. Still, it didn’t stop her from exploring because she didn’t think that would ever happen. As the little Femme looked up at the face of the one who held her, giving her focus on him, she saw that he didn’t seem like a bad mech. This didn’t surprise her, of course.
She was surprised when he introduced himself as Optimus, she had heard of someone with that name, Optimus prime leader of the Autobots. She had heard a lot about him from the conversation she had overheard. Unfortunately, she ran into one itty bitty problem. “Op… Op…” saying his full name was hard; fortunately she was a smart little femme. “Nice meet ya Oppy!” she said finally, and smiled at him. She soon remembered he asked for her name “I Volt-Wave” she told him and once more, she smiled. “I heard of you, you nice! and do good!” she said.
For whatever reason her enthusiasm made him smile, even if she had butchered his designation. That was okay. Sparklings were supposed to mess things up. It was one of their primary purposes. That and being undeniably adorable and impossible to deny most things. Or perhaps that was the part of him that had always enjoyed being around sparklings.
He didn't correct her pronunciation, there was no reason to upset her. He regarded her there, nestled against him, and felt his spark melt. He really did like sparklings, and he really did feel very large and she very fragile. It took a massive measure of his willpower not to panic and immediately set her down less he hurt her. He would only hurt her if he panicked right now.
"I do my best, and thank you for noticing." He did enjoy knowing that what he did, that his place as leader of the Autobots, was noticed and appreciated. He didn't really seek the praise of his peers, but hearing it spoken sometimes was something that truly soothed him.
"And what about you, Voltwave? Who did you escape from today?"

Voltwave certainly did butcher his designation, in the only way a Sparkling could. The mere moment she saw him smile, she felt very happy within her processor. Her happiness came because she thought she had made him feel happy. Right now, Voltwave was content to nestle there in his arms, because she felt safe there. She was right before, that Optimus Prime was a kind and a very nice Autobot. She noticed that he didn’t try to correct her pronunciation.
Voltwave smiled when he said he tries his best and thanked her for noticing. She just smiled happily, before he asked his next question, specifically who had she escaped from. Technically, she did escape, since she technically had scurried out of the medical bay.
Voltwave was an innocent, definitely, although technically having been naughty, she thought it was OK, since, in her mind, Ratchet had been busy, maybe too busy to worry about a sparkling that wasn’t injured or sick. So at his question, she was all smiles because of what she perceived as her good deed. “Oh, Volt escape from the Med-ic-al, yeah Medical bay. Unckoo ratchet was busy, very busy, so I didn’t want to bother him. It was OK right?! That she didn’t bother a very busy person.
