Characters: @redalert, Open to all Autobots Location: Omega-1 Control Room Content Warnings: N/A Plot Summary: Omega-1's new security chief makes some improvements.
Omega-1's newly installed emergency warning lights flared to life, blinking all throughout the base. They were accompanied by a dull electronic tone, followed by a recorded message.
::THIS IS A TEST OF THE OMEGA-1 EMERGENCY WARNING SYSTEM::

The message repeated three times, split between five second intervals, complimented by a rather obnoxious light show.
Red Alert had only been on site for merely a day, and he'd already picked out and taken care of over a dozen flaws in the facility's defenses. He couldn't fathom how the base had lasted this long with so many weak links in it's armor, dumb luck was the most likely suspect. For the past three hours he had been doing some hardcore, weapons-grade renovations, and he wasn't even halfway done. IFF sensors on each and every door and surveillance system; gone were the days of opening the doors of the bot on the other side simply looked like an Autobot. Now they were going to have to work for it. The human's intercom system had been in a bad state of disrepair when he'd found it, though he chalked up it's current state to the fact that Omega-1 hadn't been that busy, until now. Now, Optimus had his army back, marching through the base's long corridors.
He stood before a holographic projection of the base itself, his eyes meticulously scanning each and every minute detail; the blueprint would be memorized within the hour, he swore it. There were no hidden passages or secret entrances in or out. He would need to remedy this, post-haste. Thousands of scenarios spiraled through his mind, pertaining as to why having a secret entrance to a secure military base would be necessary. Most of them involved the IFF sensors really not liking Cyclonus.
So, Red Alert had finally made his appearance. He liked the mech, as much as he was capable of. They worked well together and didn't tend to grate each others nerves. And being as socially awkward as they both were meant that everything was handled in a business like manner. Which was fine for Prowl. He had enough personal matters requiring his attention. He didn't need outside matters drawing him in as well. Though technically he was on light duty he felt it imperative to check in with the mech that the base would now trust their safety to. He had no doubt the other would know every inch of this base before day's end, and probably much of the surrounding area too.
He paused when the test went off, noting that he'd have to discuss the lights with his fellow officer and set them so that they weren't so optic searing. Plus he needed to make sure the flashing lights wouldn't do harm to their human inhabitants.
Solaris was safely tucked away with Optimus today, as he'd finally been able to tolerate being in the other mech's presence once again. He'd have to make sure no one else knew he used their leader as sparkling sitter, else it catch on that the mech was good with sparklings. The thought of one of his offspring drew thoughts of the other and his doorwings vibrated with a fresh bout of rage.
Red Alert was also the one mech he knew would help him form a meticulous plan of attack to find and then retrieve his sparkling. One step at a time. He was sure Requiem was now a Decepticon prisoner, but since all the feeds from the medbay at the time were destroyed he had no proof. And Blizzard didn't remember what happened to her.
He vented then entered the room at full stride, coming to stand to one side of the other mech. "I see you've started right away." He laid the datapad he'd brought in with him neatly at the edge of the control console, nudging it slightly. "I thought you would appreciate a list of our small civilian population as well as their files. There are quite a few now and I don't want you to be caught unaware regarding them. I also would appreciate your help with a matter, when you have the time."
Good. It was good that Prowl was the first bot to turn up and investigate the noise, rather than quite possibly one of the millions of human children or sparklings now scampering around Omega-1. He could have a conversation with Prowl rather comfortably, considering he knew the Autobot XO's job had similar responsibilities. That didn't mean Red would stop recording their conversations, however. He recorded everyone equally to be fair, though.
Red Alert paused the data feed speeding across his visor, for the moment. "Of course I did. The faster we upgrade protocols and shore up defenses, the better." He paused, "You're not here just to investigate the noise, are you?" Red's optics lit up like a neon sign as Prowl slid the datapad across the table. Sweet intelligence reports.
He picked it up, wasting no time in sliding down the whole list. "Ten, civilians... military, police. The policeman looks a bit... generous." It was a comprehensive list alright, one he'd need to scrutinize endlessly for the next few days. On top of that it only spurred on his drive to investigate humanity as a whole, namely which humans they'd exposed themselves to. Prowl's second comment snapped him out of it.
Of all the days for Nightshade to slip out of her Papa and Daddy's line of sight..
..This probably hadn't been the best one.
While she didn't know Requiem, she knew of him, though perhaps not as well as she would have liked. She knew Prowl had another 'babu', but only got to meet Solaris. It was only when the abduction happened, she learned just how overprotective her creators could be. She didn't know what all had happened, or why for that matter. Just that some 'Sepi-con' had snuck in and ran off with Requiem. It was scary! But now she was stuck at their hips at all times.
All she wanted to do was play with Sagitta, and even then Pharma was being extra, extra protective.
Naturally.. she found a moment where she could sneak away from her creators. She honestly planned on just running to Pharma's room, saying hi to Sagitta and maybe play with her for a moment, and then go right back.
The alarms, however.. had derailed her from that. She naturally panicked, ducking into the closest corner she could find while trying to cover her large audial fins. It was such a scary sound! And those lights! She trembled as she hid in the corner, just happy when they finally came to a stop. Nightshade looked around, only to realize she wasn't entirely sure where she was in the base, nor how to get back to her Papa and Daddy's quarters, mostly from the panic the alarms had caused.
"I don't believe I've met that one. I do my best not to deal with them, I have very little tolerance for the humans at present." Something he was working on. Though he had explored the airwoman's file very carefully and was pleased to have someone with military understanding joining them rather than another civilian child for them to protect. At least military could protect themselves to some extent. He shook his head. "Regarding the noise, I think the test was sufficient but until we know for certain the lights and colors won't cause a medical seizure in the humans is there any way to lessen the frequency of the flashing and change in color?" It probably hadn't been fast enough a shift to warrant the change, but he was covering his bases. "If you have access to the Internet already look up seizures and you'll see what I mean."
He remained standing as he was, military straight and speaking plainly. It actually relaxed something inside of him to be talking to this mech, because they were similar and they both took their jobs very seriously. And he brought order with him, something he felt had been lacking for some time. When asked over his other matter he vented then proceeded.
"I would rather you not record this, but I know you record everything so its no matter. Four days ago, sometime during the twilight hours of morning, a Decepticon spy broke into our supposedly secure base and directly into the medbay. For what purpose I don't know. He attacked and badly injured the medic Blizzard and kidnapped-" He stopped there as the wailing began and every instinct he had as a carrier and a creator hit him all at once. Doorwings stood straight out, his stance went wide, and a violent tremor went from the top of his helm all the way down.
"Forgive me. I'll be right back." Intolerable, that noise.
He turned sharply and marched from the room in search of the wailing sparkling. And Primus help them all if that happened to be Solaris. They thought he was bad normally? He'd do murder. In the most unique, painful way possible. To anyone that saw him come out of the Control Room he probably looked like he was somewhere in the realm of homicidal, which happened from time to time. Usually only when they'd been in an ongoing battle for several weeks.
In this case, his audios brought him to the wailing's source, and he immediately knelt and scooped up the wailing sparkling. "Nightshade? Hush now, little one, you're safe." He dropped his tone and lowered his doorwings to a much less threatening position, holding the sparkling in close to his frame where it was warm. There was much he'd learned from raising his own offspring. Dealing with crying was one of them.
Volt loved exploring, she was sure that she had already explored every inch f the base, though he heard tell of this place called the control room. The hype that others have created made the place seem almost magical. She watched to see this place for her own optics, who knows, maybe there were friends for her to play with there or new friends for her to meet too. She loved meeting new people, and the people here were nice super nice.
So she toddled off down a hallway thinking up a game when things started happening lights were flashing, and then that loud booming sound, she didn’t understand what’s going on, but all that was interrupted when suddenly she heard a wailing sound. That sounded almost Sparkling to her, and Voltwave’s extremely inherited Autobot goodness forced her to ignore all other sounds, and she ran s fast as she was able to and hurried to the source of the wailing noise.
As she approached the wailing got louder and louder until she found the source. It was the Femme she had met previously, Nightshade. She hurried towards her. “Shade, I come, I hug,” she said to her, but someone else got to her first. She recognized Prowl immediately, she knew Prowl was super nice, so she was no longer worried about needing to comfort her, though she still planned to.
Her running slowed to a walk, and she approached the two. “Unckoo Pow! what that noise for?’ she asked him as she stepped into place before him, as her head tilted.
Red blinked as Prowl called him out on some of his more paranoid habits, making a mental note to record his conversations much more covertly. For now however, he silently switched off the active recording device. One of them, at least. The security chief's optics widened as Prowl let loose the information that Omega-1 had been breached by a spy. Unintentionally, his mind suddenly began spinning out scenarios to analyze and plan for.
Their collective train of thought was broken by the sound of wailing from the next room, a sound that Red Alert could only attribute to the base's new status as a daycare. He silently nodded as Prowl left to check up on the source of the disturbance. He was left with a precious moment to devote to his thoughts. Priority number one was ascertaining how the spy had breached their defenses, and in doing so he would find out whether or not the hole had been plugged already.
A second thought popped up, and Red reached for the closest recording device to jot it down. "Note to self: research seizures, human." Red took his thumb off the button, before he hit it once more. "Tone down warning system volume... maybe."
Nightshade continued to wail as she sat on the floor. First the loud noise, and now she wasn't sure where she was at. Her Papa and Daddy were going to be so mad at her! All she wanted to do was see Sagitta and come right back, and now she was realizing she'd done 'a bad'. Was she still a going to be their good girl? What if she couldn't find her way back to where her creators were or.. the Sepi-Cons came for her next?
Her cries lessened as she heard a voice and was suddenly pulled into someone's arms. As the tiny femme looked up, she remembered the face. She'd seen Prowl around before, especially when playing with Solaris.. so a familiar face did calm her down a little bit.
"U-unca Pow.."
Nightshade sniffled a bit, looking over when she heard Voltwave. She had only met the other femme more recently, but a second familiar face helped relax her slight more. Surely one of the two knew how to find her Papa or Daddy.. or both. Voltwave had heard that horrible noise too, though it didn't seem to scare her nearly as bad as it had the azure and iris colored femme.
She settled in Prowl's hold, leaning against him as she attempted to calm down further.
Just how exactly was it that the sparklings kept escaping their caretakers? He needed to look into sparkling proofing the base somehow. He leaned over a second time to pick up Voltwave to join Nightshade in his hold then turned and headed back the way he'd come. Well, it seemed Red Alert was getting his exposure to the sparklings now rather he wanted to or not. "You are going to be fine. Voltwave, why don't you cuddle her? She seems to require it." That was usually Solaris' answer to everything that went wrong in the world of sparklings, so perhaps that would be the right answer here as well.
"It seems we have company." He told the other mech as he returned to the room, keeping the tiny femmes tucked in close to his frame. He was also ready to allow the startled femme to chew on one of his fingers if she needed to. That worked for Requiem, maybe it would work for her too? He didn't know, femmes were far different in their needs than mechs, at least at this age. He was also terrified of accidentally crushing them if he held on too firmly.
It occurred to him to call their respective caretakers, which in this case meant leaving a message to Ratchet and Wheeljack about Nightshade and trying to remember who it was that was the primary caregiver to Voltwave. "That noise was the alarm being tested." He angled himself so that they pair could see Red Alert. "This is Red Alert. He's the one that made the noise. He's here to help protect everyone, so be nice to him."
His optics were actually regarding said mech rather than the sparklings. "Proofing the base against these sorts of incidents would be something to consider as well. A stray sparkling when the base comes under attack could be injured." Or worse went unsaid, he didn't want to scare them.
"As for my matter. Whoever broke into the base destroyed all evidence that they'd been here aside from Blizzard's injuries. They also removed Requiem from her care, with force." Which was a polite way to say, with sparklings present, that Requiem had been kidnapped by Decepticons. He was trying to put things in a way that, if repeated, wouldn't make much sense.
It was somewhat easy for Voltwave to sneak away because where she slept was sometimes so busy they wouldn’t notice one little bot like her escaping. It might be the same thing with Nightshade, she didn’t know. She didn’t think about it because her sense of exploration was high. Fortunately, she hadn’t found the exit to the base. That would certainly be very bad indeed. Prowl soon picked her up, and she heard his voice telling her, she was going to be fine and asked her to cuddle with Nightshade.
Volt liked the idea of cuddling, plus it had helped when Solaris had done so, so she moved her arms out, and carefully moved them around her friend’s form, hoping the hugging would help both of the Sparklings. Volt needed the hugging because being high as she was causing problems for her because she was afraid of heights. Amazingly, she wasn’t bothered by the other noises, but she was bothered because Nightshade was crying.
They were moving now, the little Sparkling knew this to be true because she felt the noises that were made. Prowl’s footsteps being number one noise that she had heard. She also felt her body shake due to the gravity, but she was secure, and hugging Nightshade, so she wasn’t worried. A new kind of noise was picked up by her audio receptors, that of Prowl speaking to someone, saying something about company. Soon an explanation was given, and she was introduced to the one who created the noise. Red Alert, she didn’t know anyone by that name, she hadn’t had a chance to meet them yet.
She wasn’t sure about him since he had caused Nightshade to become frightened, but Prowl asked that they be nice to him, since he was here to help protect others. She glanced back to Nightshade, before looking at red alert “hiii!” she said after a while.
Was there a leak down at the old Sparkling factory? Who were these two?! Although he kept his barrage of questions to himself, the look on Red Alert's face betrayed them to Prowl all the same. He was here to defend a military installation, not a daycare; if there were any more little ones running around, he'd have to childproof Omega-1 by the end of the week. Knowing Prowl, he'd have to do it anyway.
"W...wh... hello," he said back to the sparkling.
Prowl's next matter only confirmed his fears, that the Decepticons would breach the base for their young. "There's not many who fit the bill to be able to pull that off, even less now that I've hit Omega-1 with a fair share of upgrades."
