Player Alias: Kavac
Character Name: Slash
Allegiance: Autobot
Appearance Description:
Slash stands at roughly 10 feet tall while in her robot mode, although much shorter in her alt mode. Her alt mode is that of an Austroraptor, clocking her in at about 16 feet long, and 6 feet tall. With a frame characterized by gleaming chrome, red, black and gold, there isn’t a doubt about who she associates with. Her helm is equipped with a red targeting visor, which covers her blue optics most of the time.
Personality:
Slash is, for lack of a better word, new. She was set to be cold constructed roughly six million years ago, but the sudden outbreak of war shelved her for much of its duration. Stewing around in a photonic crystal for a few million cycles doesn’t do much to help spur emotional growth, so Slash is somewhat stunted in that regard. While there’s certainly nothing wrong with her, she just happens to be an a completely different rambunctious-scale. Ultimately she is outgoing, wild, tenacious, and will always find her way into trouble.
Deep down however, Slash is somewhat conflicted. Her spark knows that she was constructed with one purpose in mind, yet the form she’s been stuck with screams another. Whenever this mismatch rears its head, Slash can grow a bit forlorn and indecisive. She’ll be uncertain at best, and frozen at worst. Thankfully, there is little that reminds her of this discrepancy.
Strengths + Weaknesses:
+Clever Girl - Slash is flush with nothing but fluid intelligence, allowing her to put that sharp mind of hers to good use. She’s not booksmart, and she’ll never write a research essay, but if there’s anything she excels at, it’s learning by doing.
+Flexible - In the general sense, as well as the physical one. When the Forged got a hold of Slash’s dormant frame after the Exodus, they made some improvements. Slash is extremely adaptable, flexible, and equipped with an efficient frame.
+Look at ‘er go! - No wheels, no problem. Actual Velociraptors were the size of a turkey, and could only run a measly 25 mph. Luckily, the Forged didn’t know any of that while they were designing Slash’s new frame. While she’s still plenty fast outside of her alt-mode, Slash can really pick up the speed while transformed. She’s capable of breaking the speed limit of just about any road on Earth or Cybertron, while on foot no less.
-Wild - Having only been ‘born’ several years ago, Slash is still a bit immature. Impulsive, reckless, and with little regard to her allies or enemies, she is a definite wildcard for the Autobots.
-Conflicted - Not really sure what to do with her life, given the discrepancies between her spark and body, Slash sometimes grows distant. She remedies this with impulsive thoughts, split second decisions, and general disregard for others. Above all, Slash just needs some direction.
-Nearsighted - Figuratively. Slash was never one to see the big picture. Although she’ll devote massive attention to the task at hand, she often has trouble with seeing how things will turn out in the long run.
Abilities:
Tracker - Keen optics, a long attention span, and patience on the job make Slash an almost perfect tracker. Her knack for noticing otherwise imperceptible details that would often be overlooked by most others harkens back to her original purpose, that of a forensic scientist.
Speed Demon - Slash fights just about as fast as she runs. When faced with a larger, tougher opponent, there simply isn’t a need for her to punch above her weight at all. She’ll have gotten off three swings by the time her opponent’s made one.
Weaponry:
I’ve got swords in me arms! - Claws and teeth are good, but swords are better. Slash is equipped with a pair of collapsible swords sheathed into her arms. Able to eject them from her wrists, Slash’s arms act as sheathes for her weapons, enabling her to leap into action at a moment’s notice.
Claws and Teeth - Swords are better, but claws are fun. Slash holds nothing back in combat, and will gladly tear away at the enemy with her bare hands if needed.
Blasters Akimbo - Two blasters that Slash keeps in subspace function as her entire ranged arsenal. They lack the power of more destructive weapons, but they are fast, and their user is deadly accurate.
History:
The Cybertronian who would become Slash in later years was first conceived mere minutes before the war began. Having had their spark extracted from the Matrix and stored in a photonic crystal, the unnamed Cybertronian patiently waited their turn for cold construction. Name-Pending of Kaon’s birth was postponed as the Decepticons began their conquest of the city, bombing fortified enemy positions and strategic locations. The facility that housed all of Kaon’s sparks-in-waiting was hit unintentionally by the Decepticons, which led to the building’s collapse and the subsequent death of all of its occupants.
The vast majority of photonic crystals in the Kaon facility were shattered, and the building itself was nearly completely buried by rubble. Against all odds however, one crystal remained intact, merely a few feet away from the only remaining serviceable frame, which was supposed to be a forensic scientist. The nascent spark would sit in the dark, forgotten for the next six million years.
As the war exhausted Cybertron and her people, the Autobots and Decepticons fled off world, leaving behind only deserters, scavengers and thieves. As luck would have it, scavengers raided the derelict Kaon facility in search of precious salvage, only to find a single photonic crystal among the broken shards of its brothers and sisters. They salvaged the lone spark, along with the only other working frame they could find. Although they had planned to perform the cold construction themselves, both the crystal and protoform were confiscated by the newly-created Forged.
Taking advantage of their newly acquired raw materials, the Forged were soon hard at work making various improvements to the captured protoform, often using it as a test bed for some of their own modifications; the photonic crystal however, remained in storage. Lightning struck twice however, as the Forged soon came under attack by Autobot remnants left on Cybertron. Their facility was destroyed and most of the Forged were either killed or driven off-planet. Again, the unnamed spark remained forgotten.
In dire need of a miracle, the ruined Forged facility was again hit by scavengers, although this time they were Autobots proper, having returned to Cybertron in small numbers. Having found both a dormant spark and a heavily modified protoform to house it, the Autobots brought them both up to the surface to see the sun for the first time. Wasting no time, the Autobots finally completed the long-awaited cold construction.
Naturally, the now living protoform attempted to attack the first two individuals it saw, having perceived them as threats. Her first word, “slash”, became her name once the Autobots managed to calm her down enough. Slash of the Badlands was born!
Slash quickly became something of a problem for the Autobots, however. She was educated and trained by the Autobots with the intent to induct her into their ranks, but Slash eventually got the better of her peers. Hyperactive, impulsive, and with a general disregard for authority, Slash was something of a curse for those that taught her, and it was only the consistent high marks she received on her exams and exercises that kept her from flunking.
Her instructors eventually passed her, soley on the fact that they felt the Decepticons would be worse off with Slash in the Autobot ranks. She was not immediately transferred to a unit for two reasons: one, many of her superiors felt she wasn’t ready for the field yet, and two, because Slash had stowed away aboard an Autobot ship bound for Earth without anyone’s knowledge.
Roleplay/Writing Sample:
“Hello! You might ask yourself, why is Playback narrating this writing sample?”
“Why’s he suddenly got the chops for narration?”
“What’s his business upendin’ the time honored tradition of him not doing specifically that?”
“Well, your ol’ pal Playback lost himself a bet with Swerve. That’s why.”
“Enjoy!”
“Cybertron, 2 years ago…”
There was nothing.
Then, there was everything.
A pair of sky-blue optics popped into existence, although they weren’t quite so accustomed to the light yet. Being shrouded in complete darkness for about six million years does that to a person. Speaking of which, she was a person now! Two figures stood over her, their appearance obscured by the sun striking them from behind. Whoever she was, she definitely didn’t like being in such a compromised position.
She leapt up without warning, faster than she should have from the sounds of the two people in front of her. They reacted with a mixture of shock and apprehension, apparently having not been equipped to deal with something quite like this. She took in her surroundings rapidly, although her attention was drawn to the footprints in the dirt. Two sets of tire tracks, then footprints. There was no third. She had been carried here.
Her wrist split open, and a pair of gleaming swords shot forth as if they’d been spring-loaded. She snatched both of them just as the mechanism released, charging forth screaming the only word she could think to say.
“SLASH!”
Which she then did, dutifully. Clumsily, too. All the Autobots had to do to evade was to dodge left and right, as Slash’s attacks were predictable, and lacked substance. Their dire predicament caused one of the Autobots to simply call out, “Woah, woah! Take it easy, we’re on your side! We don’t mean to harm you!” Their sudden admission caused Slash to cease her attack and to assess the situation. Truly, she had no evidence that either of them meant her harm. Trivially then, they were on her side. Slash needed more information before she knew who to trust, so she figured it might be best to start now, her violent urges having subsided.
Having been frozen in place for a long five seconds, Slash finally slid her blades back into her arms, and stood up straight.
“Yeah okay.”
“And, scene.”
