Player Alias:
Warlord
Character Name:
Ultra Magnus
Allegiance:
Autobots
Appearance Description:
Sporting a blue, red, and white motif, Ultra Magnus is easily one of the largest Autobots dirt side currently (surpassed only by the upgraded Optimus Prime). He's built solidly due to his structural reinforcement (which supports his massive strength) and thick armor plating on a blocky chassis. Otherwise, much of his appearance is very similar to Optimus Prime's, tall but with a very grim expression on his face at all times.
Ultra Magnus' altenate mode is a tractor trailer truck hauling a vehicle carrier style trailer. The rigging is without the pivot point, and the trailer is therefore shorter than a modern version of the same type, but this is because the trailer is not a separate portion of Ultra Magnus but is in fact an extended portion of his personal form. When Ultra Magnus transforms, the entirety of truck and trailer transform together to form his robot mode.
Personality + Character Traits:
Plainly put, Ultra Magnus is a stick in the mud 9 times out of every 10. He's stern, to the point where even his posture is ramrod straight. He requires and expects to be called sir by his fellow autobots and is often loathe to allow the kind of casual jocular behavior that Team Prime settled into in his absence. He is hardbitten, by the book, and even intractable when it comes to matters of protocol. Why Optimus Prime thought he was creating anything but a headache for all involved by placing Ultra Magnus in charge of a free wheeling group like the Wreckers is anyone's guess but not even a Prime can always be right. Right?
Prime has been somewhat vendicated, as the effort to lead bots who have no interest in doing things by the book has forced Ultra Magnus to bend somewhat in order to maintain his unit's morale. At the same time, the tactical and reserved nature has slowly given the Wreckers an equal amount of cohesion that could, if carefully studied, be directly responsible for an upturn in their survival rate. Still, the often taciturn Ultra Magnus prefers not to address his compromises, not in light of their successes or failures.
Still, it's good to have a little respect and if occasionally treating one of his inferiors like a peer is conducive to mission success he will continue to allow it. That said, his unwillingness to discuss his problems by and large has also prevented him from closely considering the little things that have been eating at him lately. Like why, in spite of seniority, he finds himself naturally tending to defer to Rodimus' lead instead of giving the younger bot orders. And then there's the fact that Ultra Magnus recalls leading the Autobots for a time in Optimus' absence but he can't rightly recall Optimus ever actually being absent. That would be worrying, except he's sure he put it in a report and if Optimus didn't say anything about it (for surely everybody reads the reports) then it must not be a problem.
Weaponry:
While Ultra Magnus has no built in melee weapons, unlike so many of his comrades, he is by no means unarmed. Ultra Magnus maintains a small arsenal on board his personal ship, for starters. However, he favors one particular setup to the point that it's practically a signiture load out. Ultra Magnus has blasters built into his arms, though they require a minor transformation to bring to bare. He also heavily favors a powerful cannon that he wields like an assault weapon in combat, but only when he can't (or feels he can't) get away with wielding his primary weapon: The EM Hammer. Sadly, in recent history, his opportunities to bring the weapon to bare have been few and far between given the nature of most Decepticons to avoid close combat with obviously superior foes.
In vehicle mode, Ultra Magnus rarely engages in combat since appropriate forms for a bot of his size rarely make for an effective combat vehicle. He does have rockets, present in both his robot and vehicle mode, that he can fire off in a pinch at targets either in front of or behind him.
History:
Once upon a time, Ultra Magnus was the highest ranked military official on Cybertron. He was no Prime, obviously, but he was the leader of the pinnacle of military units: the Elite Guard. This was a golden age for the big bot, where his stern and often overbearing demeanor were an asset rather than a drain on troop morale. He got things done, he smacked around beauracracy like a tiger would a common house cat, he kept the troops properly trained and drilled. And then the war with the Decepticon terrorists came, and all the rules changed. Things got bad, but eventually Optimus Prime stepped into the picture relieving Ultra Magnus of the ill fitting mantel and letting him return to what he did best.
Shortly after this transition Optimus Prime put his most trusted Lieutenant in charge of a rag tag group of slackers, brawlers, and disorganized brutes in the hopes of making them an effective fighting force. Ultra Magnus did his best but often was forced to tolerate intolerable behavior due to Optimus stepping in to allow for it. Still, though completely lacking in all the qualities that would make them good soldiers, the Wreckers managed to stumble into victories often enough that Ultra Magnus was able to continue holding his head high while pursuing the frustrating effort his duty demanded of him.
He doesn't recall what drew him to Earth, but after a long run of trying to find other Autobots in the far reaches of space he picked up a signal and there found Optimus and the others. Even a few Wreckers. Ever the good soldier, Ultra Magnus has ground his mandable servos and resumed his duties as their leader. Perhaps with less of them about he will be able to whip them into shape by aiming some individual attention their way...
Roleplay/Writing Sample: Ultra Magnus was checking the base's provisions. The same as he had last month. No, it didn't matter that he'd tracked their usage the entire time since. That was good, but a full inventory would ensure that there had been no oversights, no mistakes, no 'lost' items along the way. Unsurprisingly there were explosives missing. He'd write up Wheeljack for that, after an obligatory investigation that would only uncover surprises if it was found that Wheeljack -hadn't- taken the items in question. He'd then send the write up to Optimus for command decision. He was certain Optimus read all such items, and handled the concerns raised in such behind closed doors.
There were also extra items in the store rooms. Their contents not listed, but scrawled handwriting on the outside of the boxes made it clear Miko had a hand in their presence. Their size also suggested her usual accomplice was complicit. Ultra Magnus picked up one of the containers and thudded his way out of the space and toward the so called 'lounge'. He'd given no permission to bring in, let alone store, such contraband in the Base. They'd have a piece of his processors for such reckless behavior, or his designation wasn't Ultra Magnus.
