Plot Furthering: The Autobots are on the hunt for a pair of Decepticons; they split into two groups and scout the area, eventually coming across their foes. Meanwhile, three Decepticons are skulking around the woods. Are they fighting one another? Avoiding one another? Trying to strike a deal with one another? Are they even aware that there are other Decepticons nearby? Do they team up against the Autobots, fight solo, or flee? It was noon. The sun was up in the sky and its rays filtered through the canopy like spears of light. Earth’s forests were always a nice place to be in, though the amount of times Bumblebee had been in one to relax rather than fulfil a mission could be counted on the fingers of one hand. Duty always seemed to come first. This time was no different. He gave a little sigh and turned to regard his small group.
“All right, team, listen up!” Bumblebee raised a hand to get the attention of every Autobot present. Once he had it, he continued, “As you all know, there’s been some strange activity going on around this area in the past few days, and by strange, I mean suspicious. We have reason to believe there’re two unidentified Decepticon inmates somewhere around here, both of them definitely up to no good, though what exactly it is they’re up to remains to be seen.”
He opened his hand and clicked the small flat disk resting in his palm. It unshuttered and a hologram sprung to life, showing a geographical map of the surrounding area. A part of it was coloured in purple, contrasting sharply with the green that permeated the rest of the graphic. With his free hand, Bumblebee manipulated the hologram, zooming in on the purple zone.
“We’ll split in two groups and scout out this highlighted area. That’s our perimeter and we’re sticking to it. Do not wander off,” he warned, giving a pointed look at some of the cybertronians standing in front of him, “for any reason. Seriously, stick to the perimeter.
“Drift, Strongarm—you’ll go with Rodimus,” Bumblebee said, reaching up to give the mech in question a soft bump on the arm. He turned the holodisk off and subspaced it, sending a data packet with the map to everyone. “Grimlock, with me. We’ll head left. You guys take right. Keep your comms open but don’t chatter. We want the element of surprise on our side.”
He hoped they would listen to him. Keeping his team in line was a bit of a handful sometimes. Luckily, Rodimus was here to lend a hand today. Bumblebee was glad for that. Admittedly, he was also a little worried that his team would compare them as leaders, but he would fret over that later. For now, they had some Decepticons to catch.
He looked over his teammates, again going over the reason why he had chosen to divide them into the groups he had: Rodimus and Grimlock were powerhouses, so one went to each team. Drift and Rodimus tended to act on impulse but Strongarm had a tactical mind, so they would hopefully strike a balance. Bumblebee… Well, he complemented Grimlock. Or Grimlock complemented him. Whichever way one wanted to see it.
“Right.” Bumblebee flicked his doorwings. “Let’s roll.”
Rodimus stood silently, his arms crossed over his chest plates and his expression attentive as Bee started out on his mission briefing. It was simple enough. Beat the bushes, flush out a couple of Decepticons, blast them before they get away. You know... maybe find out what they'd been up to after sorting through the wreckage. He kept his amusing thoughts to himself for the moment, not really looking to be corrected and wanting Bee to have his authority completely unquestioned even indirectly. It was goldenrod's show, after all.
He gave Strongarm and Drift a nod each when Bee indicated he would be leading the two on the other half of the search mission. They both seemed like solid bots at first glance so Rodimus had no complaints on that front. One was a sports car in their alternate mode, so there was even an obvious positive in the teaming. When Bee gave the ol' get to it Rodimus pointed at Drift and Strongarm at the same time, each with one of his hands, and then hooked his thumbs in the direction they were to be going. "You heard the fearless leader, don't transform and tip-toe out." He grinned and led the way, turning sideways to slip between two trees while causing as little disturbance to either as possible. He was tall, but relatively slender for a leader type. Still, forests were rarely the environment Autobots were designed for.
"Form a staggered line, we'll search like that so we can't all be caught in a single line of fire." He pointed out to his sides but let the other two decide who was going on which side.
While the Autobots made their plans in order to track these mysterious Decepticons, one stood relatively alone deep in the woods. Steeljaw had played it smart, having destroyed his trackers long ago that had been activated during his all-expenses-paid stay on the Alchemor.
But now? Now he didn't need to worry about the Alchemor, and there was no way he was about to let himself be recaptured by some goodie goodies running around. Oh, no siree!
However, now that he was here, he was determined to take this planet as his own. Of course, he knew that this was something that he couldn't do alone. Steeljaw was going to need a crew of his own. A Pack. That's where Filch had come into play. She would be the first of this motley crew, and the first in what would be a new world order, even if the wolf had to ditch her along the way, or she ditched him first. Either way, it didn't matter to him. There would be more where she came from.
Moving through the trees, he made sure to keep as silent as he could. He wasn't stupid enough to make noise when there could be an Autobot waiting behind one of the trees in the distance, but even still.. he would be ready to pounce at any given moment. Steeljaw was out here to hunt for potential candidates to join his Pack, and he had no qualms about ruining the day of an Autobot or two in the process if need be.
Strongarm lifted her helm, listening, her doorwings held stiff but even. Duty first, even though she'd been planning to take a day off. But Decepticons had to muck that up, as were their favorite habits, of course. Two in the area, on the loose, strange happenings on the rise, and they were in the thick of it all. She seemed to clench her fists tightly at the thought of what the Decepticons had to be doing. Not that she knew directly but they were always up to something, right?
Her optics scanned the map that Bumblebee projected from the disk. There was an area highlighted in purple--and apparently that was the area of focus. That was where they were going to have to look for the Decepticons. Good. At least they had something to go on.
She nodded to Drift and Rodimus. She'd heard of Rodimus at the very least, but Drift was a new face to her. Once they had their orders, she pressed her fist into her hand and smirked.
"Alright, let's go."
However, unlike the more slender-built mechs, shimmying through the trees was not exactly Strongarm's forte. Folding her wings against herself, she tried to slip through an area of two trees near the ones Rodimus had slipped through, on the right side where Rodimus had pointed.
Ugh. Those trees had been too close to her breastplating--and to her doorwings.
Autobot signatures wandering in a forest, the best way to start a day. While the mission was not to win a fight, Flamewar was coming in to simply deter them and allow those of the Alchemor prison ship to continue running free. She didn't recall when it fell, but honestly, Flamewar didn't particularly care. It’s a mission, something to make her cycles worthwhile.
The familiar swirling green of a groundbridge appeared in a small clearing of the woodlands, emerging from it was a single small, spindly femme. Her grin was almost audial receptor to audial receptor as she stepped, no, strode away from her entrance. Her pedes crinkled fallen leaves and snapped loose branches, given she didn't care for proper stealth. She was essentially a distraction anyways.
“I wonder what kinda ‘Bots I’ll be seein’ today,” she asked herself, swinging around some trees with her servo gliding around their trunks. None yet had entered her detection range, so no point to lighting the foliage ablaze… yet.
That was definitely going to be the best part, especially given from what she knew, there weren't many Autobots equipped to fight fires. She didn't expect to see Optimus here at all, and were there even other firefighting members to the faction? Hell if she knew.
Since crashing, Drift’s arrival to Earth was met with both apprehension and doubt.
At first, the swordsmech had been hesitant to serve under Bumblebee’s command, questioning the yellow leader’s competency and deeming them unfit for duty. It was far from what the ex-decepticon had expected, for such a young mech to be shouldered the weight and responsibilities of warfare, but on more than one occasion the rookie had shown enough experience under their belt to quell his worry. After all, there wasn't much choice in the matter. You fought, or you die.
Perhaps their motley crew might not have been considered “Elite”, by certain members of Cybertron, but Drift had faith that they would succeed in their mission, and grow to be something better. The amount of captured Decepticons was already a testament to that. The Alchemor was slowly filling up to its former glory.
" I'll just, go over here then. " Given that Rodimus took point and Strongarm secured the right flank, Drift was given the multiple, various choices of: left, left, or left. Choosing, and making his way on the opposite side, sinistral to where Radius had indicated, the speedster took the road less travelled. The underbrush was thick, catching on his plating in uncomfortable ways. He just knew, that when this was over, the Decepticon caught and anticipatory calm settling on the group once again, that there would be many a hour spent digging out organic material from armour seams.
Despite this, the swordsmechs' foot steps fell silent as he maundered through the forrest, field drawn in tight as he scanned the area.
Steeljaw was already securing his position, and now it was time for Filch to do her end of the deal--taking to the sky, her wings carrying her high before she would silently sweep and soar overhead. It appeared that the Autobots had split into two groups. And each of the groups would be trying to search for something, so far as she could tell. What they were searching for, she wasn't sure, though it could very well be herself and Steeljaw.
She seemed to swoop low and seek out Steeljaw. She needed to warn him and she didn't exactly want to be traced through communications in case one of them was a communications expert. She seemed to have a reflective piece of metal in her talons to try to help her search, but found it wasn't quite so helpful, and veered off course slightly toward a nest she had set up days ago with barbed wire, several pieces of scrap, and a few shiny plastic trinkets. She then took off once more to try to catch sight of the troops of Autobots plodding nearby. Or at least Steeljaw in order to keep him well-warned.
She seemed to try to mimic the calls of native birds in order to make the others think that maybe this was just a flock of birds, not one giant robotic bird.
It took all of Grimlock's willpower to not jump in excitement when they'd caught onto approximately two Decepticons running amok and causing trouble in the area. It meant that he'd get to see some action, as well as introduce someone to his fists of fury.
All he could do was stand by and listen as Bumblebee explained the mission and separated them into two groups. Part of him had hoped that he could be on the same team as Drift, but he wasn't about to argue since he would be going with Bumblebee. It was strange though.. Every time he thought about the swordsmech, he pictured much darker armor than what he actually wore. It didn't make any sense, but he didn't see the need to question it. He was a pretty cool guy from what he could tell, and that was the most he could hope for.
As Bumblebee dismissed the group, he watched as Strongarm left with Rodimus and Drift. It was just him and the smaller yellow mech now. The Dinobot was practically bouncing on his peds, eagerly looking to his teamie. "If they're goin' this way, then we should go... this way! Right?" He glanced around for a mere moment, as if deciding which way they should take. He'd naturally follow whatever direction Bumblebee decided to go in, but he felt that the opposite direction that the other group had gone in would be best.
Bumblebee rolled his optics at Rodimus’ joke, then watched his team go. They made quick work of disappearing into the forest, mostly quiet despite their bulk. Bumblebee nodded to himself in approval. Organic foliage was tricky for cybertronians to traverse in complete silence, but they were doing a good job.
“Yes, Grimlock, we go that way,” he agreed, turning to face his partner.
He decided not to mention that he had already said which way either team should go. Grimlock was a good mech, but he could be a little absent-minded. Things tended to elude him, no matter how simple. Getting snappish with the Dinobot because of it wasn’t very effective, however, so Bumblebee cycled air through his vents and remained calm. Optimus didn’t need to snark at his subordinates, and neither would Bumblebee.
“Just… don’t punch anyone unless they see us first, okay? Remember we’re going for stealth here,” he reminded his partner. “Come on.”
He gestured with a hand, starting to walk. With a click, the holomap sprang to life again. He ducked under branches and stepped over bushes as he squinted at it, trying to decide what the best path would be.
Steeljaw made his way through the thick of the forest, no particular goal in mind at the moment aside from his long term plans. Soon he would free his brothers and sisters from their stasis pods, or meet up with the ones who already had, but for now.. all he could do was search the forest in hopes that he could find someone that he could use to further his plans.
As he continued his trek, he heard a faint sound in the distance. Voices? They were too far away for the wolf to tell just who they belonged to, let alone what had been said, but he knew all too well that someone was out there.. speaking. He stilled, back pressed against a tree as he peered from the other side of it. No one to be seen, but that didn't mean that someone wasn't heading his way.
All he could do was grin a most sinister grin.
If he played his cards right, no matter who this was, he could use this mysterious individual or even individuals to his advantage. If it were one of this brethren, he would simply trick them into joining his 'noble cause'. If it were an Autobot, however.. Oh, they had a special treat in store for them.
Primus, what was it with all this foliage? She was having to traverse this section of the forest, unsure of if her current grouping had even stuck together. What was this, space-time shenanigans? Remind her to never watch those terrible sci-fi movies again. They were really messing with her processor.
Now, the grand question was, what would they find? She was really getting nervous about this, not sure if they would run into Decepticons first. But she didn't want to give away her position too easily. After all, she already had her size against her.
Fun.
Just...fun.
