Characters: Cliffjumper and @smokescreen Location: Outskirts of Jasper, NV Content Warnings: N/A Plot Summary: Cliffjumper is ignoring his duties for a while to practice some stunts.
Jasper, Nevada. Cozy, calm, and quiet. Most 'Bots would have loved the silence. No blaster fire, no wheels tearing against the ground. He could certainly understand why humans wanted to live here. The thing is, lazy and calm wasn't his style. He needed some kind of rush, and even though the town was quiet, the mountains, on the other hand, were perfect for grinding gears on.
"Cliffjumper readies his engines, planning on making a new self land record. The path is clear cut, and perfect for avoiding. On your mark..." Tires revved against the ground, kicking up dust. "Get set... and roll out!" He hollered, shooting off in a blinding dust cloud, laughing the whole way. It had been a while since he had really tested his skills, and if he did crash, Ratchet would be able to fix up the minor damage, right? He was tough. The most he'd get was a flat tire and some dents in his chassis.
He stayed on the road for a while, picking up speed. His Earth vehicle mode was nowhere near as fast as his Cybertronian one, but some things had to be sacrificed for style. After all, he could hit a clean 0-60 on the starting line, and after that was as smooth as ever. Smoothing being used relatively, since, well, nothing about the deserts of Jasper were 'smooth'.
His steering wheel yanked itself right, pulling him off the road, and into the vast empty deserts. The horns on his hood rattled over every bump, before finally getting to what he was aiming for. The ravine. It was a short jump, but that drop was at least half a mile. Time it right, and he should be able to hop over it, and keep the momentum going.
5 seconds. He slammed on the gas. 3 seconds. Shifted gears, and finally, at the last second, forced himself upwards in a short hop, barely crossing the ravine, and slamming into the ground. He cheered, laughing like he had a screw loose, before making an impressive rising column of dirt and dust with a couple short donuts. "Nailed it again, Cliff."
As much as Smokescreen had an itch to fight Decepticons, he enjoyed his downtime as well. It was well spent in his opinion, though others would be quick to disagree with him. He spent it researching the human internet, human television, and more often than not.. showing off. It was fun, and it was something he didn't really get to do much of back on Cybertron, especially when he'd been stuck with Alpha Trion himself.
He'd come across one particular show where these humans would preform amazing jumps with this one car they owned.. a bright, impossible to miss color with a strange marking on the top. The Elite Guardsman never did figure out what it meant, but it didn't matter. The stunts alone where worth it.
And so, out Smokescreen went, flying down the desert at high speeds. He was determined to try out a few of these stunts from this show, as well as practice a few others so that he could show off to the others one day, including Strongarm~.
Once he had found the perfect hill of sand, the young mech floored it. He hit the hill hard, sailing into the air with an obnoxious tune blaring from his speakers. He grinned all to himself, landing with a thud as he swerved around. "Ha ha! I'm definitely gonna have to try that again." Just as he prepared to do so, he spotted another vehicle driving around, also pulling off the same type of stuns that he'd been wanting to try.
Careful, Cliffjumper. You were drawing an audience~!
His tires skidded to a halt, leaving faint skid-markings on the dusty ground. What else was there out in this wasteland, outside of dirt, the occasional jump, and some rocks? Nothing really, but he could make do. He drove in a couple slow circles, checking out the area and readying to speed off at any moment, before catching sight of another vehicle. It didn't look like any Autobots he knew, and most Decepticons liked to take on aerial Alt. Modes.
So it must be a human, right? He didn't get alerted about any recruits.
He didn't bother putting in a holoform, going with the hope that his windows were tinted enough (Which they were, to a decent amount), and that he didn't have to get too chatty with his guest. Not like he wasn't going to gloat, that was inevitable. Just, not 'get out of the car and cheer' gloating. What was Autobot Rule #1? Don't transform in front of humans, unless it was convenient? That sounded about right.
He started up again, revving his engine as loud as he could, before returning to his makeshift 'stunt show'. "Start off with something simple." He muttered, before wheeling himself into reverse, flooring the breaks, and hefting up one side of the vehicle to that the two right-most wheels were the only ones on the ground. "Simple." He hit the gas, starting to pick up speed, driving in steady circles.
Not like he WANTED to show off, but why not do something tricky for the viewers?
Just as he didn't look familiar to the red mech, Smokescreen in no way recognized this guy. He had heard that there was a red Autobot that hung around the Autobot base by the name of Cliffjumper, but he never would have known this was the guy. But at the same time, hadn't Strongarm talked about a red mech named Sideswipe that resided at the base she was at?
Eh. This guy seemed too cool to be the annoying Sideswipe that Strongarm would carry on about in their texts to each other, not to mention that it was more than likely some human showoff.
Either way, Smokescreen was completely captivated.
The young mech continued to watch as the red vehicle began to preform once more, this time doing a trick that had him on both of right wheels were the only ones on the ground. Seemed like quite a dangerous trick for a human, but then again.. humans were weird. "Now that's what I call awesome!! Hold on. I wanna try somethin'. I wanna see if I can land right in the middle of your, uhh... what's the word for it.. Donut!"
That had been the Earth term for it, right?
Smokescreen zoomed towards the dirt hill, preparing for take off. It'd be just like that stunt he'd tried earlier, only a lot more dangerous. Oh, Ratchet was gonna kill him when he got back to base.
Gunning it, he took off into the air and attempted to stick the landing. "Woohoo~!"
Now THAT was how you did a trick. Just another average for Cliff here, or at least, that's what he would like to say. That's probably what he would say, too. Made everything seem more impressive to the new guy. A new guy who happened to be sporting some pretty nice decals too.
Really nice, actually. Not the sort of thing that you would waste on desert driving, but humans were humans, and did whatever seemed convenient or exciting for them at the time.
Ignoring his obvious hypocrisy, and focusing his attention on the other mech as it tried to jump... right in the center of his donut. There were several things he could shout, like 'DON'T', or 'WAIT', or 'THAT'S STUPID', but being the mech that he was, he might as well give the car a chance. Who knew? Maybe they actually knew what they were doing, and considering the bumpy landing they made in the middle of the circle, nearly spinning Cliff off course, it could be determined that it was a leap of faith.
No harm in that, right?
"Woah, that was a close one." The red mech huffed, skidding his wheels to a stop. "And I liked it! You must have a lotta' brass to try something like that. Who're you? People 'round here call me Cliff." Using 'people' in the loosest sense possible. He was pretty sure most drivers who got in his way would call him anything but 'Cliff', but he might as well start off on a good note.
Smokescreen landed in the dead center of Cliffjumper's donut, swerving as he skidded to a halt. The young mech laughed once he reached a complete stop, watching as the red car kept up his donuts. However, he stopped soon enough, putting on the breaks before speaking to him.
Close? Nah, he had it that whole time. At least.. in his processor he did.
"Glad ya like what you see!" So the guy's name was Cliff, and not for one moment did Smokescreen even think to associate the name with that of Cliffjumper.. the mech that he had heard of that vanished according to Ratchet. The Elite Guardsman wished that he could've had the chance to meet that guy. He sounded pretty cool and fun from the things that he did get to hear.
"They call me 'Smoke' or 'Smokey' for the ladies. Heheheheh. Nice to meet'cha, Cliff. I really liked watching the stunts you were preforming. Take it you've got a lot of practice under your belt?"
