Player Alias: Jim
Character Name: Prowl
Allegiance: Autobot
Appearance Description: Prowl is what passes for an average-sized Cybertronian, having a slightly-modified standard Praxian chassis. His paint job is monochrome, the only splashes of colour in his frame being his yellow visor, red chevron, police lights on his back, and light-blue biolights; there is a white five-pointed star on his chest with a black Autobot symbol resting in its middle. He has missile launchers mounted on his pauldrons and his alt-mode’s doors stick out of his back as if they were wings. His alternate mode is a Nissan 350Z police car.
Personality: Prowl is a competent and reliable mech. Despite being a loner at spark, he understands that there is strength in numbers, something he learnt early on in his function. The problem these days would be finding numbers that he can crunch into workable outcomes. Quick of wit and sharp of tongue, those who know him for his tactical genius tend to be surprised by his unexpected and cynical brand of humour.
He does not take well to being caught off-guard and always aims to be one step ahead of everything. A diligent worker, he keeps late hours making sure he is considering all possible angles, yet he will put his responsibilities on hold for a selected few.
Weaponry: Somewhat averse to fighting in close quarters, Prowl favours daggers and throwing stars, and owns a modified ion blaster — codename Firelance — that can disrupt Seeker and Predacon flight systems from afar besides firing regular rounds. The missile launchers on his shoulders are also very much active and deadly, but he uses them as a last resort.
Perhaps surprisingly, Prowl’s predilect weapon is a non-lethal electroconductive gel — affectionately dubbed the Investigator Special — that redirects internal signals and temporarily paralyses other robots. In his time as an enforcer, he would often use it to subdue his targets with minimal harm, but he has almost stopped using it now since wartime does not allow for niceties.
Strengths + Flaws: Prowl has earned himself a reputation for being a brilliant but ruthless strategist; the truth is that he has taken it upon himself to make the hard calls he knows Optimus can’t or won’t, and he struggles under the weight of such a heavy load. He also has a knack for making sarcastic remarks at inopportune moments, which gets him more withering looks than friends.
An adept mêlée fighter, his streamlined figure and enhanced sensornet make him particularly good at dodging punches. Still, this means that his armour sustains damage more easily than a true frontliner, especially when fighting against stronger bots. All in all, his frame is far better suited for long-range combat than hand-to-hand skirmishes.
He has a top-notch central multi-processing unit that runs multiple program instructions at the same time, increasing his overall thinking speed and making him excel at solving problems, sometimes before they even come up. However, this multi-core processor and all the hyperspecialised strategy programs in it — known as the “tactical network” or “tac-net” for short — sometimes cause his spark to shut down the parts of him that make him Prowl and not just a mindless machine. This is a coping mechanism to deal with high levels of emotional and mental duress, and while it doesn't tend to be triggered with ease or last long, it puts a great strain on Prowl’s frame.
History: Early in his function, Prowl joined a resistance movement that sought to overthrow the Quintessons during their rule of Cybertron. He helped gather information which proved to be vital to the cause and participated in the skirmishes as a tactician and soldier. Once the Quintessons were banished and Cybertron entered a Golden Age, Prowl became a spacebridge sentry on the planet. All was well for a while, but then the Rust Plague struck the colony worlds and orders came through to destroy all spacebridges in order to keep the disease from reaching Cybertron.
With the spacebridges gone, Prowl joined the main body of law enforcers in Praxus, and eventually became a police liaison officer between the High Council Guard and various city-state militias. When the civil war broke out, he remained a non-aligned mech at first, much like the rest of Praxus’ population. The destruction of his city-state at Decepticon hands, however, would spur him into joining Optimus Prime as an advisor and tactician, quickly becoming a trusted lieutenant and part of Optimus’ inner circle.
Prowl was aboard the Ark when the spaceship left Cybertron for the stars, though at some point he became separated from the crew. Now he and his Conjunx Endura, Jazz, have found their way to Earth — which seems to be the new battlefront — on their ship, Sigma. While he is glad to be back where he is needed, he hopes that their war will not doom yet another planet in their strive for peace.
