Characters: Astrotrain + Anyone else Location: The Mines Content Warnings: N/A Plot Summary: Astrotrain's hauling Energon back to base for the Decepticons. Naturally, things go wrong.
There were some things that came easier to some than they did to others. Dreams, for example. It was no exaggeration that Astrotrain had worked his aft off for his dreams and aspirations, and all that work had led him to the Energon mines. A rich vein of the stuff had just been tapped by Decepticon workers, and they wanted to secure it before any pesky Autobots caught wind of it. Astrotrain had been given the illustrious honour of shipping it back to base. As usual.
“Say, PG-13,” Astrotrain said, addressing a Vehicon worker as other miners brought the freshly-harvested Energon to him in cargo pods. “Do you think I’m just a bus for the ‘cons?”
“Absolutely not, sir,” The Vehicon replied half-convincingly. “I think you are a valued member of the Decepticons.”
“Oh, you’re just saying that,” Astrotrain said dismissively as the last of the miners brought the Energon to him. “Better get this back to base. If the Autobots turn up, slag ‘em to bits.” He transformed into his ground vehicle mode and attached himself to the cargo pods. He set off at the fastest pace he could, being careful not to lose the pods. He didn’t want to mess up this simple task, not wanting to face Megatron's punishment.
And what better way to wreck someone's day than to throw in a Wrecker.
...Ok, perhaps Wrecker-in-training was the better term.
Hot Shot was by all means a young Wrecker by Ultra Magnus standards, but by Wheeljack's? Oh heck no. The blue mech was still learning the old school ways of the Wreckers, and he wasn't going to let go of that last mission so easily. He's screwed things up big time, and not only had he gotten himself roughed up, but he'd gotten Wheeljack in a bit of a mess too. This time, he was gonna prove to himself that he was ready and that he could handle things. Even if he had to take a more careful approach much to his own chagrin.
Ducking behind a rock formation near the entrance, Hot Shot watched as some vehicons and a guy he didn't know spoke, loading up some Energon to take for the Decepticon cause. As if.. Taking out the guards at the entrance had been a fun challenge, but he knew it got real here.
Lowering his visor and switching to his double barrel blasters, the young mech took aim, waiting for the right time to shoot. He waited for the train to make his move, then fired a single shot towards the PG-13 guy. Sure, he could've gone for the containers of Energon, but Hot Shot here luckily wasn't into making things go boom as Wheeljack was.
Astrotrain hadn’t been paying attention, so when he heard the sound of energy discharge, he screeched to a halt and transformed, discovering the body of PG-13 slumped over the last of the cargo pods, a smoking hole in his chassis. His optics widened and he cast his gaze around briefly.
“Slag!” he hissed. The Autobots were here, he could tell. But how did they know? The Decepticons had been incredibly covert about this discovery. This wasn’t going to look good when he returned to base.
The combat Vehicons drew their weapons and Astrotrain did the same, looking around avidly for any kind of assailant. From how he saw it, the Autobots were outgunned and outnumbered. If they had any sense, Astrotrain thought, they’d give up now. Unless, he supposed, they were quite heavily armed or they had a secret army hidden somewhere. That was unlikely, but even he had to admit that the Autobots could be very deceptive when they wanted to be.
“Protect the cargo pods!” he ordered, aiming his rifle at a rock formation that, to him, looked like a perfect bit of cover. “Come on out, Auto-byte! I’ve got thirty soldiers with me, and we’re only giving you one chance to surrender!” It was a bit of a bluff, and Astrotrain had never been good with bluffing. In truth, he only had about ten drones with him, since most of the other combat Vehicons were patrolling the mines.
Hot Shot ducked behind the formation, keeping himself hidden. He didn't stay unnoticed for long, especially when the one that sounded like the train realized what had happened. It had been sheer chance that he had found this mine on this day. He'd looked for a mine, but didn't necessarily know of the little operation going on here.
Sitting on the ground, he pressed his back against the rock formation as Astrotrain declared that he had a large number of soldiers with him. 30? That seemed a bit excessive. He hadn't seen anywhere near that when he looked moments ago when he fired at the one Vehicon. Though in retrospect.. there could've been more hiding in the deeper parts of the mine.
Hot Shot got on one knee, spinning himself around but still staying behind his little hiding place. He aimed one blaster to the left, another to the right. The young Wrecker fired both blasters, finally revealing himself.
Slag. The Autobot had called Astrotrain’s bluff and shot down two of the mine’s Vehicon guards. On the upside, he now that the Autobot in his sights.
“Open fire!” he yelled, aiming his rifle at the Autobot’s head and firing. The remaining Vehicons in his entourage did the same, with the intent of reducing their target to a pile of dust. This bot was pretty fast, yet Astrotrain had found that to be the case with most Autobots. It was a case of both him being larger than a lot of other bots and the Autobots overall preferring faster vehicles. He’d dealt with this bot’s type back on Cybertron. A common tactic for small Autobot squads was to use their speed to their advantage, performing lightning strikes on Decepticon-controlled territory. Luckily for Astrotrain, there was only one of them now.
Or maybe that was worse, he wasn’t sure.
What he was sure of, though, was that he was going to beat this Autobot, protect the Energon shipment and do something good for the Decepticon cause, and perhaps not get punished for any failure.
The moment Hot Shot fired and revealed himself, he knew that he could no longer stay put. Good thing he was fast, though he wasn't the fastest out there. The young Wrecker immediately got to his peds and made a run for it, running straight down the side of the mine as the Decepticons opened fire on him.
"Me and my bright ideas!"
He turned as he ran, firing a couple shots back before ducking behind another rock formation. Right now he had to focus if he wanted a chance of succeeding, but to take out the Vehicons first was likely the best option. That way the Autobot could get less mechs firing his way. At that moment, the blue mech peeked over the formation he called his temporary hiding place and shot at the Vehicons, only to take a hit to the shoulder.
Hot Shot grimaced, hissing as he ducked back down.
Primus did his shoulder hurt.
