Characters: Skystalker, Open Location: Crown City's mountainous area Content Warnings: N/A Plot Summary: Curious about the mountains within Crown City's vicinity, Skystalker decides to take his own hike around. But he may not be alone.
Normally, the hikers that visited Crown City were of the regular, fleshy kind. The area was beautiful, covered in a lush forest, beautiful mountains, and several places to camp and hike, even recreationally for its inhabitants. It was no wonder that it attracted so many tourists year round who maybe wanted to feel the experience of nature and take in the beauty it had to offer. But that wasn't the only kind of tourist the city seemed to attract.
One such tourist was quite...out of place. Skystalker could certainly be counted as a visitor of the unusual kind since he was not human nor animal of the normal kind, but rather a large metallic dragon roaming the hiking trails since they were the easiest to follow. It was early in the evening, so the sun wasn't bearing down on his frame and making it uncomfortable for a walk and many humans had by now returned to their camp sites or gone back to the city. Yet, Skystalker was careful as he trekked along one mountain path that was wide enough for him to walk comfortably, his wings folded to his back and tail swaying lazily behind him.
There was always a chance encounter of humans doing later walks and hikes, and for him to be spotted could be some trouble for himself and his allies, much less a reprimand if the higher ups heard about it. But for now it was quiet save for the chirping of crickets and occasional rustle of leaves from a soft breeze blowing through the trees.
To say the least, Skystalker felt quite at home here in the wilderness, relaxed even with being out in the open air. Normally he would be enjoying a flight to get out of base or wandering the hot, sandy desert near Outpost Omega-1. But a change of scenery had felt necessary, especially when Skystalker had found his curiosity peeked after coming across the data about the secondary base the Autobots had. But it had not been the base's location that interested him so much as the area surrounding it. Unable to hold back some excitement to seeing a new area, the Predacon had made the long flight there and couldn't hold back his awe at the area. This was home to him, open, several places to hide if he needed, and no one to truly bother him like at the base where it was more enclosed and sometimes crowded.
"Now if only everywhere was like this on Earth." Skystalker mused to himself as he came to a point in the path where a view of the area below and even the whole city could be seen. Now this was a sight to see. Forest, mountain, water, and civilization, a stark contrast to the deserts he always seemed to find himself at and something the Predacon had needed a change from. Quite frankly, he was glad he made that gamble to fly all the way out here. And deep down he wondered if Cybertron had ever had such sights before rather than just all the metal he had heard so much about...
His thoughts though were suddenly halted as he heard movement down the path in which he had just come from. His body tensed and claws subconsciously curling in anticipation, making small gauge marks in the dirt and stone. Skystalker could hear the sound was closer than he realized, far too close for him to make any attempts to hide into the trees across from him. Such a moment would still have him caught if it was a human, and glancing back at the ledge, Skystalker could only figure his best option was to make a dive down the mountain side. Otherwise, he was pretty much in the open for whomever was approaching.
Getting out of the base was always a joy for Grimlock. You could only keep the Dinobot cooped up in that little place for so long before he started to go crazy, which was why he was more than happy to go on a little patrolling.
Well.. so long as he was extra careful. He was an Autobot without a vehicle mode after all. Nope. He had a dinosaur alt-mode, which Grimlock thought was much cooler to be honest. However, he didn't need it at the moment. The tall, green mech was in his root mode as he made his way down the path in search for any escaped Decepticons.
He hummed a little tune as he went along the way, looking around and keeping an optic out for any suspicious bots. As he continued, he swore he heard a voice, which caused him to rush forward. In his head, it was better to take action immediately than to wait. Patience wasn't exactly his forte to begin with.
"Helloooo..? Anyone there?"
Grimlock moved forward, finding himself at a ledge, but no one in sight. "Now that's weird. I coulda swore I heard someone or somethin'. Must've been the wind playing tricks on me or somethin'." The Dinobot shrugged, looking around once more, but then he caught something out of the corner of his optic. Had there been someone down there? Maybe they were hurt or something. Or needed help!
...Or they were a fugitive! Bee would be so proud if Grimlock apprehended them. "Incomiiiiiiiiing!!"
And so he went down over the mountain side, transforming into his Dinobot alt mode as he went down.
Seeing no other option for hiding, in case it happened to be a human or Decepticon, Skystalker dove over the ledge with his wings spreading out. The last thing he wanted was to carelessly throw himself down to the forest below and risk some form of injury, sure he could be durable but not every part of him was. The draconic meck made sure he was down decently far as to not be spotted so easily, hovering in place so he could still be in a spot as to watch the ledge from where he had just come from.
Listening closely though, Skystalker heard the steps drawing closer and this time he figured out they were far larger than a human’s own. Which could only mean the one approaching had to be a Cybertronian like himself after all. His suspicions were confirmed as he heard someone speak, seeing a flash of green metal armor that gave it away. Curious, Skystalker carefully flapped his wings enough to get a better view, catching sight of Grimlock from his position and trying to identify an insignia of some kind. Though it took a moment, Skystalker finally spotted what he was looking for and his posture relaxed a bit more in seeing it was an Autobot. Not that he got a chance to call out to the mech before Skystalker’s optics were widening.
Grimlock’s warning of incoming and suddenly hearing running made the dragon mech realize Grimlock probably had spotted him on his own. And now was coming right for him! “Wait! You’re…” Skystalker tried to call out but was much too late as he watched the mech jump from the ledge and forcing Skystalker to try and fly backwards to avoid the Dinobot…with no luck. All he saw was a reptilian like form coming at him before the heavier weight of the Dinobot collided with his own, causing him to snarl as the two were sent crashing into the forest below, well maybe more so Skystalker crashing and Grimlock merely landing from his fall.
The crash left Skystalker disoriented and slight pain, feeling it right up his wings and spinal strut while stars flashed in his vision for a few moments. What exactly was this mech? No, the better question was what mech was that stupid to make such a risky, primitive use of a tactic in general and risking harming themselves? He really didn’t know, and the only thing he wanted right now was to get back on his feet and confront the idiocy of this Cybertronian for making such a reckless move, the Predacon rolling to his feet but getting up he was unsteady, stumbling slightly like he had had too much high grade and shaking his head to clear the disorientation. Didn’t work that well, but he nevertheless took a moment to get his bearings as he focused on the…well, he wasn’t sure what Grimlock was, but he definitely was no Predacon.
“Do you have a glitched processor or something? That’s a good way to send us both packing to the Allspark if we had been any higher.” Skystalker snapped in annoyance towards the Dinobot, his aching wings once more folded against his back. “What reasonable bot would be so reckless? I mean, just who or what are you?” Skystalker was practically demanding now, fuming in fact.
There were those that were careful when they went about chasing others. Then you had those like Grimlock. They liked to live dangerously, and the extreme way was the only way. Besides, going down the side of a cliff like this should have been such an easy feat for a Dinobot such as himself.
As he stood in his Dinobot form, he gazed upon the other. As they chided him, Grimlock studied the one before him. Strange.. It was almost like he'd seen someone like this before, but he just couldn't put digit on it. They certainly weren't a Dinobot, but they weren't like any of the other escaped Decepticon fugitives that he'd seen either. Certainly nothing like Steeljaw or Filch.. or any of the others he had run into during his brief moments aboard the Alchemor.
"Sorry. Guess I got a little too excited back there. Heh! I'm Grimlock, by the way. Dinobot by day. Dinobot still by night. Ok. Maybe all the time." Nothing wrong with that in his mind. Being a car was overrated, but yet.. there were advantages to having an actual vehicle mode.
"So what about you? What's your name? And how come you tried to run up there? Wasn't like I was gonna bite or anything. ...Maybe punch ya, but you seem like a pretty cool guy to me."
Skystalker gave the slightest huffs of annoyance, but let go of those emotions after a bit of time. Getting angered wouldn't exactly help anything and the bot he encountered seemed to be an Autobot after all judging by his insignia. Not to mention they were being friendly, it'd be rude to further chide the bot since everything was already done and over with at this rate. He'd just have to be for more careful from now on when one such outings and not allow for some plan to be ready should he face the same situation, only with a Decepticon or neutral next time.
"The name is Skystalker, I'm a Predacon." Skystalker responded, tone becoming slightly calmer and raising a clawed metal paw, pointing to the orange dragon-like head insignia on his upper arms. "But I'm aligned with the Autobots just for the record." The dragon-like mech was extra certain to make such a thing clear when it came to meeting a Autobot he really didn't know. Quite frankly, he didn't know how much knowledge the Autobots had on Predacons aside from those who were long since buried beneath the surface from his ancestors or if they had ever uncovered any more of his kind. Did more of them escape the labs? Were others working for the Decepticons as intended? He couldn't say for sure.
But Skystalker raised an optic ridge at the possibility of being punched, "At first I wasn't sure who was approaching, the first thing I thought best to do was to dive down and make sure I was out of sight. The last encounter I had with humans didn't exactly go well." Skystalker explained. "Can never be too certain either for heavy footsteps either." Sure, perhaps Skystalker was being overly cautious but he didn't value risking running into one of Megatron's goons and being dragged to the Nemesis for further experimentation.
"Cool huh?" Skystalker mused, "Thanks, but you can take that literally too my large green friend." Turning on the spot, Skystalker examined the area until he saw a slowly dying tree, finding it perfect for a little demonstration. With his chest glowing a bright blue, Skystalker let out a blast of his icy breath which collided with the tree, freezing over an area of the trunk. "Best remedy to weaken some Decepticon armor...and smashing them to pieces!" The Predacon said, lunging forward and twisting his body, slamming the spiked mace at the end of his tail against the iced area and shattered it, causing the dead tree to collapse with what was left.
Either way, Grimlock was happy to have another friend in the Autobots that also looked a bit reptilian like he did. Not that that mattered, but this was the closest he was getting to another Dinobot, and the thought alone just thrilled the guy.
Regardless, Skystalker seemed to be rather suspicious, and had fair reason to be after a previous encounter with humans. "Oh, they're not all that bad. I mean.. I stay at a base with a few of them and they're pretty cool. Guess you just met the wrong humans. I'm gonna have to show ya the good ones~." Grimlock flashed the Predacon a grin, practically bouncing with excitement. It would certainly be cool to have another friend at the Autobot base out here in Crown City, but there was always that thought that maybe they were staying at that other one far away.
The Dinobot's optics lit up like a Christmas tree as he watched Skystalker totally demolish a tree by freezing it and smashing it. "Wow.. That.. was awesome! I love smashing stuff! Heh. I don't have enough friends like you."
If Grimlock could burst with the excitement he was showing Skystalker was pretty sure it would have happened already. He had never seen someone so enthused and excited before, reminding him of a sparkling getting their first energon treat ever and never tasting something so good in their lives. It was both amusing and fascinating to see since it was something else he had observed among his fellow Cybertronians. They got excited and happy sometimes for the littlest thing and there were times he could not understand why they were excited, happy, and finding joy despite an obvious bleak outlook in the war. Could he ever know such a feeling? Sometimes, it felt like happiness was lost to someone such as Skystalker.
"I have seen some at the base in Jasper. But I always worry I will frighten them; it is what happened when I first encountered humans on this planet. I ended up here and was seeking help, when I approached a traveling caravan they thought I was a monster from their legends, so I have been a bit more cautious of revealing myself." Skystalker admitted, having felt a bit bad his form seemed to invoke fear into the life forms of this planet and the only solace he found was his own kind, Cybertronians who seemed to accept him for what he was. But he couldn't help smiling at Grimlock's suggestion and smiled even more broadly when he seemed to admire his smashing skills.
"I wouldn't mind a little help of adjusting better with the humans, so I do not seem like an utter terror to the humans I suppose." Skystalker sakd with a nod before tapping his lower jaw in thought. "Well, I am usually cooped up in the Jasper base since I can be seen a bit more easily than the others. But, perhaps I could make more trips here, visit a fellow reptilian more." It felt strange to make such a suggestion, knowing full well he too had few friends aside from the young mech Stepped. And perhaps Grimlock and him could form their own kind of duo, a thought that seemed rather intriguing to Skystalkee.
"Scared..? Of you?!" Grimlock didn't find the Predacon scary at all, and still didn't see how the humans could be scared of the Dinobot himself. He was just a fun loving guy, and kid friendly when he wanted to be~. Come on. Who didn't like dinosaurs?
"I dunno what was wrong with those humans you met, but the ones where I stay ain't gonna be scared of ya." Honestly he loved the thought of this guy coming to visit more often. He did know that feeling of being cooped up in one place though. Not having a vehicle mode did that to you sometimes, but for Skystalker? Who really knew? "I know what'cha mean. I get stuck back at base all the time because I either broke somethin' or pose too much risk of getting us noticed by the humans that aren't supposed to notice us. We could just hang out!"
Grimlock bounced excitedly, grinning to Skystalker. "Wanna see our base? Not too far from here."
To say Gimlock's enthusiasm wasn't to be admired wouldn't be doing the Dinobot justice. He seemed to think Skystalker was not as scary as he appeared and that there was hope for humans to see the real him. How could someone such as the large mech have such optimism? They were giants living among squish munchkins, a single mistake or misstep could mean a human's undoing and it would take the right people seeing it and twisting it into the wrong thing. And he doubted this world was so devoid of such twisted, cruel humans, Decepticons in the form of fleshy creatures.
"Perhaps not all humans share the trust and bravery of your companions Grimlock." Skystalker suggested, only able to make an assumption to maybe appease his seemingly new found friend. Truth be told, the Predacon just felt he truly would be a monster on such a place as this. It was what Shockwave, his creator, had intended for them to be; they were meant to be beasts, hunters of the Autobots and eliminators of the faction that stood in Megatron's way.
His suggestion of going to the base surprised Skystalker, not expecting such an invitation. But what could it hurt to see another part of the Autobots he had yet to meet? "I can spare some time, so why not." Skystalker gave a small toothy smile, "Lead the way my big green companion."
Not all of them were trustworthy? Grimlock hadn't yet met a human like that, but he couldn't exactly say it wasn't truth. That's how it was with Cybertronians, and thankfully the Autobots he partnered with were the trustworthy ones. Sure he missed the destruction he did when he was a Decepticon, but it wasn't like he couldn't punch someone in the faceplates now to take out that aggression when he wanted to.
He grinned as Skystalker agreed to follow him back to base, transforming back into his root mode. His grin didn't falter in the least as he bounced around some more.
"Follow me, Skystalker!" The Dinobot began to walk up a path that led back up to where they had come from, practically bounding with joy with each and every step. He hummed a small tune to himself, words eventually flowing out of the mech. "We're goin' back to base. We're goin' back to base. Look out world, here we come. We're goin' back to base~."
"Right behind you." Skystalker answered, spreading his wings and taking flight to follow after the Dinobot. But he turned his head slightly to peer at the black and green mech, watching him bouncing and humming along as they moved back to the path they had both ended up coming down from. For such a bot of his strength and stature, he seemed more of what the humans called a giant teddy bear than a real threat.
Curiosity eating away at him, Skystalker flew down near the path Grimlock was taking and transformed mid-flight to his robot mode to drop down a few feet ahead. He waited until Grimlock was close once more before he spoke, "How can you be so full of enthusiasm Grimlock? We're at war and anything could happen, yet...you seem so happy and full of energy." Skystalker had never been more perplexed in his short life than he was when it came to the Autobots. Some were grim and they could see the darker views of life right now, yet many seemed so up beat and full of hope, as if the war was just merely a thought to push to the back of the mind.
(I'm so sorry it took so long for me to respond to this. ;; )
Grimlock lead the Predacon back towards the base, super excited and in a great mood. He kept humming along, occasionally coming up with some lyrics to go with the tune, but otherwise the walk back was quite cheerful.
..something that Skystalker didn't seem quite used to.
Really he did have a point. With everything going on, how was the Dinobot able to find so much joy and energy to keep up the morale? He stopped walking for a moment, thinking to himself. "I dunno. Just who I am I guess. Gotta make your own fun, right? Though.. fun's not supposed to mess up your work.. unless you have fun doing work. That's what Bumblebee told me once, but it's really kinda confusing."
He shook it off, resuming the walk back to the base. "What about you though? What do you do for fun?"
Once Grimlock paused, so did Skystalker curious to what the Dinobot had to say. Well, that made sense. Just in the short time he had been talking with Grimlock the mech came off as cheerful, easy going, and just overall a happy-go-sort that actually put Skystalker at ease.
Once they resumed walking, it was only then at Grimlock's question that Skystalker actually drew a blank. What exactly was the concept of "fun"? In his relatively short life span, Skystalker had never really considered many concepts, not when he had been trying to learn things he considered interesting or requiring his attention. As a result however, it seemed he had truly missed on the minor or abstract concepts as well. "I'm...not really sure what fun is Grimlock." The Predacon admitted, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. "I've never really thought of such a thing."
That was pretty much like what he enjoyed doing right? "But if this counts, I do like to learn, get to know things I do not understand seeming as my life has been rather short. And, hm..." Skystalker rubbed his chin as he walked, tail flicking back and forth in thought. "I like to train, keep my combat skills sharp." He added, hoping that maybe counted as something fun.
Grimlock immediately stopped at Skystalker's response, jaw practically hitting the ground as he spoke those words.
What was fun?
What was fun?!
He couldn't even believe that Skystalker didn't know how to have fun, but he was gonna change that quickly. It seemed the mech was a lot younger than he first appeared, but it was alright. Grimlock could fix it. Sorry, Fixit. "You mean.. you dunno what fun is?! I. Am. Shocked. You know what? I'm gonna teach ya! Fun is.. uh.. Well fun is.. Hrmm.." How could he describe what fun was? It wasn't like he could just break into a random, made up song that said what it was all about.
"Oh! Like.. when you do somethin' with a friend! Like watch movies, make somethin' together.. Punch stuff? We're gonna have lots of fun, Skystalker. I'm makin' sure of it. I know all the fun things~!" The guy did say he liked to learn, and training was something he liked to do as well. "Yeah! Training can be fun, especially if ya get to punch something."
