Player Alias: Thundercat
Character Name: Firelaunch
Flamefist (Autobot Alias)
Allegiance: Decepticon
Appearance Description: Firelaunch is a mech standing roughly as tall as Breakdown and falls on the bulky, strong side in terms of his build. But, Firelaunch is also unique in having an appearance based on one of two forms he takes.
His main form, and usually his Autobot disguise, is a dark red Toyota Tundra truck with a majority of the front folding in on itself to make up the bulk of his chest. Much of the lower part of the truck forms his lower legs and part of the upper arm which forms shoulder pads. Part of his heels have the back tires as part of the foot while armor curves around to make up his stabilizers that connects to a square-shaped pede. His front wheels can be found on the sides of his lower arms which are heavily armored as much as his lower legs. His doors fold back to form two sets of "door wings" on his upper back and the rest of his form shows the underlying protoform, his upper arms, legs, and mid-section being a bit thinner here while his mid-section is built in a way to allow for flexibility and movement. Firelaunch is overall a blocky, muscular looking mech with a head shape that is square in the front and moves into sloping overlapped plates in the back and at the front is a single pointed horn just above between the areas of the eyes with a elongated chevron following above the forehead and points upwards at a sharp angle. On either side of his face plate he also has rectangular vent-like protrusions on the face frame.
As a Decepticon, his alternate mode is that of a black Oshkosh Light Combat ATV. His robot mode essentially remains the same but with different vehicle kibble and being slightly more spiky around the edges. His head shape remains the same save for the chevron and single horn being replaced by five fanned out, curving horns along the top and a skull-shaped full visor covering his whole face. On this face visor is two jagged optic slits that are blood red and flash each time he speaks.
His primary color scheme is a dark red with black and pale chrome accents, a color scheme used for his Autobot persona but is also his "default" colors. In his more Decepticon state, these colors are reverse to be black with dark red but retaining the pale chrome accents. His body is also littered with old scars, primarily seen along his left arm, around the knee joint on the right leg and right heel strut, and two diagonally across his face, one of which goes over his left optic. This has led to a formerly blue optic being replaced by a deep green one and leaving him with mismatching optics. He also has a self-inflicted scar across his chest above his spark chamber, cutting where his faction symbol normally would lie and leaving the Autobot symbol permanently in place from an old mission.
Personality: Firelaunch is a mech who can take on many roles and personas. He seems well adapted into adjusted himself to a needed persona when the time calls for it, easily becoming an Autobot others could find easy to get along with or a Decepticon others might want to avoid.
As an Autobot, Firelaunch finds himself being a kind, supportive bot when in their ranks, even to the point he will lend his audio to someone when they need it or give a hand when necessary. He can be quite laid-back and out-going, giving a seemingly genuine performance he cares for his fellow Autobots and doesn't mind sharing a conversation, regardless if its a spontaneous topic or something important. He comes off as almost like a big brother figure who doesn't mind showing the young bots a thing or two but he does show a temper when the right buttons are pushed.
When among the Deceptions, Firelaunch falls more into the cruel, dark spectrum. He won't be afraid to show his temper as often and does show more of violent, wicked side befitting the Decepticons. He is more vocal and out-going among his true comrades and enjoys a good tussle the Decepticons seem to like to start often, feeling more competitive and open among his true faction. Some could say he still shows that laid-back, social side and still acts as a big brother figure but he is also a bit more prone to violence and being sadistic than in his Autobot persona.
But, the true Firelaunch is a mix of both of these aspects. He just finds himself playing up one role to another due to his many years as an acting double agent, but finds himself acting a bit of both no matter the role. He also knows how to use dry wit and charm when necessary and can be something of an open flirt towards others, either showing a true attraction to a bot or through playful banter. And one thing he shows in both aspects is a deep loyalty, mainly to those he grows a bond with and to the Decepticon cause, but an Autobot or two may sometimes be spared if he has grown a connection with them.
Strengths:
Exceptionally Durable: As a heavily armored Cybetronian, Firelaunch is built for great feats of durability, allowing him to take far more damage than most. He can handle situations of heavy fire and artillery, explosions, and last fairly well in combat. His armor was meant to take punishment and allow him to last for longer periods of time.
Dual Form Transformation: Firelaunch has a unique ability to be able to scan two forms compared to most Cybertronians who can only scan one.
Long Distance Weaponry: Firelaunch is versatile in his fighting in being an expert in the use of long-range based weaponry. He is a pretty decent shot within 300-400 yards and does alright in longer distances. It is his preferred method to weaken opponents before going in close to finish them off.
Close Quarters Combat: Though something he prefers using as a finishing blow, Firelaunch is no slouch in using close quarters. His preferred fighting is brute force and wrestling techniques, showing concern in using his strength and durability to his advantage to wear down his opponent before making the finishing blow. But he does also use defensive tactics when necessary or combine this with the use of melee weapons, especially heavy hitting ones such as his war axe.
Acting: With his years spent as a double agent and his experiences in Kaon and the Industrial District, Firelaunch has learned to play up many roles and personas, especially with his unique ability to change between two alternate forms which changes his appearance slightly. Years of doing so has allowed him to slowly improve and perfect his techniques, being able to go deep undercover while stringing co-workers and foes alike until it was necessary to drop that persona.
Fearlessness: Both among Autobots and Decepticons, Firelaunch is known for having no hesitation to jump at a dangerous mission or battle, especially seen when he happily takes up undercover work which could put on par as having as much ball bearings as a Wrecker from time to time. He will throw in all his effort and focus into that mission to the point of risking his own health and well-being, doing whatever it takes to get a task complete.
Weaknesses:
Bulky Form: Just as much as it is a strength, Firelaunch's larger form can be equally debilitating. His form makes him slow and less agile than a smaller framed bot, leaving him more likely to be outmaneuvered and take on more than he really can. There are also some spots on his form that are not as heavily armored, making him further vulnerable.
Hot Tempered: There are times that someone can push the right buttons and cause Firelaunch to show a nasty temper, which will cloud his judgment and make him unable to think rationally.
Weapon Preference: As strange as it is, Firelaunch has a preference for weapons and can be picky with their type. His weapon have all been fire or heat-based, which has become a signature thing in both identities he has had in the war. This is the main reason for his name and he will rarely use any other weapon with the drawback of some needing a cool down time to use for long periods.
Dual Form Transformation: Firelaunch has a unique ability, but there are it's drawbacks. For one, he must be in robot mode to change between his two forms otherwise he remains as he is when in vehicle mode. The change is painful. Firelaunch is shifting his external and internal systems at will but this rearranging and shifting are visibly painful, uncomfortable, and has taken an affect on his T-cog that was not fully adapted for the constant changes. This has required some modifications to allow it to handle the constant changing but has not made it any less painful on his body and requires occasionally check-ups to ensure it is in working order. He can also only reverse his current color scheme, otherwise it would require him continually scan something of similar coloration for each form. Any new form he does scan must also be within his body mass or he must discard one form from his data tracks in order to replace it with the new scan.
Physical Ailments: Due to many of his previous wounds not being properly looked after and repaired, Firelaunch deals with some mobility problems. His left shoulder has limited mobility range with only being able to lift his arm only slightly above shoulder length and has a permanent limp in his right leg that sometimes gets irritated, making a permanent limp worse and sometimes hard to move. The sight in his left optic is also slightly diminished due to shoddy repair work, which makes him somewhat blind with things being blurry from as far as 1000 feet.
Fearlessness: Just as being fearless makes Firelaunch an asset, it does make him prone to trouble and danger, getting him into situations beyond his control.
Identity Crisis: From time to time, Firelaunch will find himself in some confusion of what role he should be playing or how he should be acting. This leaves him in a state of confusion and conflict, requiring him to regain his bearings and take time away to get his processor straight but it can cause problems with his cover.
Abilities:
Dual Form Transformation: Firelaunch is gifted with the ability to scan two separate forms very similar to a triple changer. What is different though is that he can maintain one form at a time like most Cybertronians and is capable of altering his form at will in robot mode to change his kibble to the secondary form and allow him to take on that form instead. This causes a slight change of appearance in robot mode and is used for hiding his identity and nature during missions, his altered robot mode having a built in full face visor with a voice changing feature. But, this state does require some focus, time, and enduring a painful change.
Weaponry:
Thermo-energon War Axe: In his arsenal, Firelaunch's melee weapon of choice is a double headed cybertronian metal axe with serrated edges. The handle is about half his body length while the blades span out to about four feet each and have a thermo feature that heats up the edges, causing them to glow a bright red.
Modified Path Blaster: Firelaunch makes use of the semi-automatic blaster that can fire molten metal ammo, usually being three to five shots at a time with small pauses in between. Normally hand-held, he had it changed in build and design to transform from his right hand but will begin to overheat if used for too long, requiring him to allow for it to cool down. This is his preferred Decepticon weapon.
X12 Scrapmaker: Firelaunch makes use of a slightly outdated, but still deadly weapon that is a multi-barreled machine gun resembling an Earth minigun that takes time to fully charge for its destructive power but is capable of firing eight rounds per minute. Firelaunch has a total of 200 bullets per clip of incendiary rounds and is modified to mount on his left shoulder, remaining parallel to his back behind it when not in use.
Plasma Cannon: Can be found in his left arm and is his preferred Autobot weapon.
History: Firelaunch was sparked from a bonded pair of the Industrial Caste, being "born" into the caste himself in the city-state of Uraya. Much of his young life would be spent here, being brought up to know his supposed calling in life by both creators and found himself falling into welding and material transport. But when his youngling years had come and gone, with Firelaunch transitioning into his "teenager" stage, he was soon separated from his parens endura and was transferred to the industrial capital of Cybertron, Kaon.
During the waning days of pre-war Cybertron, this is where Firelaunch found himself living, working, and eventually making an illegal living like many of its inhabitants. With his unique transformation ability, the young mech at the time began dabbling in gambling, illegal side-jobs with his welding skills, and taking a growing interest in the illegal gladiatorial games. These were his main pass times and ways he earned shanix and goods, scrapping by like many of his fellow Kaonan residents and he gradually began to seek to join the growing blood sport of gladiator combat.
In fact, Firelaunch got hid final necessary upgrade into his adult transition that he felt ready to join the pits himself. But, due to his transport work that sometimes had him traveling out of Kaon, he could not be in the pits as often as he wanted and tended to be an occasional competitor, allowing him rare moments to take out his frustrations. Of course, it wasn't without him getting some injuries and he was soon put out of the pits for a time when one match nearly costed him his sight in one optic and one had to be salvaged off an unfortunate competitor who did not survive his own match.
From there on, Firelaunch resided himself to being a spectator up until Megatron began to gain a larger influence to the point he had a growing number of followers, Firelaunch among them who shared many of the ideologies of the future Decepticon warlord. When the war did finally break out, the young mech decided to employ his talents to the Decepticon cause, even undergoing a few upgrades and getting a modification or two to his T-Cog to make the process a little less painful. In doing so, Firelaunch became one of the double agents employed to the Decepticons, building a rep for being quite good at his job, often going deep undercover for months at a time. Before the Exodus though, Firelaunch had an assignment at an Autobot Outpost by the Rust Sea that about changed his life forever.
During his cover, Firelaunch befriended a mech by the name of Copper, a former search and rescue bot turned warrior. The two practically became two peas in a pod, sharing many interests and getting along better than expected. Their bond became so strong they became amica endura, and for one this loyal Decepticon about fully changed his loyalties if not for a well timed raid that decimated the outpost, killing his friend and jarring Firelaunch back to reality. Saddened by the loss but even more appalled by his near betrayal to the Decepticon cause, Firelaunch inflicted a wound to his chest over the Autobot symbol as a constant reminder of this failure. Shortly thereafter, he was one of many who left Cybertron during the Exodus.
Taking a ship, Firelaunch would travel across the galaxy before he came to reside on an alien planet and took up old illegal habits for a handful of years before he heard chatter about Decepticon activity on some backwater organic planet and soon made his way there. After a few months this of space travel he crash landed on Earth, his ship being found not by his comrades but by members of Team Prime and Team Bee much to his surprise. But seeing this as opportunity presenting itself he decided to return to his original duties as a double agent, playing his role as Flamefist for Team Prime for the past two months and is making his plans to make contact with the Decepticons once more.
