Player Alias: Counterklock
Character Name: Jazz
Allegiance: Autobot
Appearance Description:
An average-sized mech, Jazz stands around seven or so metres tall. His frame is thicker than one would expect of a master spy, but don’t let it fool you - he’s quick on his feet, and can pack a hefty punch! The front bumper and nose of his alt mode makes up his torso, and two doorwings rise up out of his back. His blue optics are usually concealed behind a blue glass visor, but sometimes he retracts it just for the fun of it. His color scheme is white with red, blue, and grey highlights.
His alt mode is that of a very souped-up Porsche.
Personality:
Incredibly laid-back and ‘chill’, Jazz is one of the easiest bots to get along with due to his friendly nature. He is always calm and level-headed, with a temper that is practically non-existent. It certainly isn’t hard to see why he is so popular with just about everyone! Bots are naturally inclined to trust him based upon his amicability alone. He is incredibly versatile and adaptable, and is quite used to making things up on the fly if a clever plan falls through.
Originally a cultural investigator, Jazz naturally as a knack for reading people and situations, and is able to seamlessly integrate himself into a group within a matter of days no matter how different or strange they are from him. He very much digs the concept of cultural relativism and believes that it is important to understand every aspect of a culture - including its history and situational context - in order to understand why people behave the way they do. He is the perfect mimic short of being able to change his own appearance, which might seem a bit insidious to those who do not appreciate his talents, but Jazz only uses his amicable powers of observation for good. There is a reason why Optimus Prime made him Head of Intelligence during the War.
Weaponry:
In addition to the built-in speakers in his broad shoulders that fire a hundred sonic booms a second, Jazz also possesses a grappling hook that’s saved his aft on numerous occasions and standard issue ion blaster.
Strengths + Flaws:
Jazz is naturally very observant due to his intended function as a cultural investigator. He's very good at reading others, whether it be body language, facial language, or his own intuition. He's quite clever, and is quite used to working on the fly and coming up with plans spontaneously. One could even say that it is his specialty! Due to his easy-going nature, others tend to trust him automatically - which may or may not be a boon, depending on whether or not he's interested in making friends.
Due to the bulk in his upper torso and shoulders, Jazz is a bit top-heavy. While he’s very good at keeping his weight centered while fighting, his frame was not originally constructed with so much density focused so high above his centre of gravity, and he has been known to get unbalanced and tip over during a fight. In addition, Jazz can be a bit reckless, becoming a most curious paradox when he completely neglects to analyze the situation around him in favor of acting out on impulse. This may be a testament to his versatility, but it may also be a clear indicator for his tendency to show off on occasion, with less-than-stellar results.
Just as his ability to mix well with just about anyone is his greatest asset, so to is it a weakness. His go-with-the-flow attitude has gotten him in trouble more than once, especially if he’s misread a situation - because when he misreads a situation, he really misreads a situation, sometimes with disastrous consequences that improvisation could not salvage.
History:
Long before the War, Jazz was once a simple cultural investigator who gathered first hand accounts of different cultures. His work, in addition to taking him all over Cybertron (and off!) had the upside of broadening his horizons and understanding of the universe and taught him the benefit of cultural diversity. The detailed ethnographies he compiled were then submitted to the Hall of Records for analyses and archiving - and it was there in the Hall of Records that Jazz met Orion Pax, who was a simple archivist, and they quickly became friends.
It was Jazz that suggested that Orion contact Megatronus to speak with him about his writings. Along with Orion, Jazz became one of Megatronus’s ardent supporters - until Megatronus’s more violent policies and link to terrorist activities made him strongly reconsider. Jazz was there when Orion Pax ultimately became Optimus Prime, a spectator for what he would later realize would be the beginning of the end of their world as they knew it. For the duration of the War, Jazz was one of Optimus’s most trusted advisors and Head of Intelligence, apart of his inner circle, and proudly stood at his side through the best and the worst of it.
The last time Jazz was seen, he had boarded the Ark in hopes of tracking down the Allspark before the Decepticons found it. He has now come to Earth with his Conjunx Endura, Prowl, following Optimus’s call, and hopes to reunite with the Autobots and lend a hand once more.
