Player Alias: Thundercat
Character Name: Flatline (IDW/Universe)
Allegiance: Decepticon
Appearance Description:
Flatline is one of those kinds of mechs that could easily stand out in a crowd from his bulk and appearance. He is a bulky, strong looking mech who is easily classified as a hard hitter when he puts his mind to it, majority of his form being rectangular or blocky in appearance. But, there are some of his form that is a bit more lean, such as around his upper arms, hips, and upper legs to the knees, where his protoform is a bit more exposed beneath the bulkiness of his kibble of his alternate form. Though the mid-section is still far more armored than his legs and upper arms, and some parts of his armor are angled and smooth, putting a large bulk of his alternate mode kibble on his chest, lower arms, lower legs, and shoulders.
His alternate mode is a heavily armored pick-up truck with medical symbols emblazoned on the sides. His coloration is mostly ebony black and smoky gray with hints of red coloration, broken up by brighter red bio-lights. Like many Decepticons his optics are a burning red, though they occasionally change to a faint purple when angered due to his dark energon corruption and a visible face plate covering his lower face.
Personality: Flatline is like his fellow Decepticons but at the same time is an exception to the rule. First, Flatline has no issues with violence, whether someone else is doing the violent act or he himself is taking part in it. He sometimes shows himself to enjoy causing pain to others in a twisted, sadistic way but not nearly to the level of some of his comrades. He also likes to be a little competitive and prove his mettle, knowing as a medic some might view him as an easy and weak target despite his bulk. But, Flatline loves proving he's just as good at combat as he is with repairing bots, if even maybe being a bit of a show off.
But, Flatline isn't quite so barbaric or savage to not show a little class. He can actually be quite polite and civil towards most than most Decepticons might be willing to be. Flatline though is normally like this around his comrades and is more likely to be curt towards their enemies, especially Autobots whom he shows a greater weariness with and suspicion. Yet, Flatline is also quite famously known for his crude, flippant attitude as much as he is known for being civil. Truth be told, when he doesn't particularly like someone, doesn't trust them, or finds something rather stupid, he will have no filter nor hesitation to state his opinion, be right to the point and stating his thoughts.
Due to his straightforward, vocal attitude, Flatline does tend to make himself quite prone to trouble and punishment, something he simply takes as part of his job. Someone doesn't like it he merely shrugs it off, repairs himself, and continues on. So, despite that lack of filter, Flatline is nevertheless a hard working, strong willed mech who has his own thoughts and beliefs but is not devoid of having a softer side that only shows up around those he particularly cares for. Although, there is something of an impatient, temper driven side as well, that has become more volatile thanks to the influence of dark energon.
Strengths:
+Bulky Frame: Flatline is a tall mech with a lot of bulk to his frame, making him both stronger and more durable than some Cybertronians. This proves to give Flatline a saving grace to take a fair bit of punishment when he's serving as a warrior and a field medic, sometimes even being a defense against an already weakened patient.
+Skilled Surgeon/Medic: Despite his large size, Flatline is a skilled medic with nimble, steady hands. He's had both legal and illegal practice and has gotten an extensive knowledge of various frames over the years that he can handle minor injuries to near-fatal ones. His knowledge extends to the point he is more than capable of handling upgrades, building new bodies, and dabbling in some experimentation for different bodies.
+Long-Range Weaponry Proficiency: Even being a gifted medic, Flatline is no slouch when it comes to using weaponry, especially long range which he finds is best suited to allow him to get in close and personal with his enemies to finish them or allow him to cover a fallen comrade so he can get to them. These are his saving grace when in times he is needed for an important member or several damaged Decepticons, and well he is known to be a pretty deadly and accurate shot with such weaponry.
+Formidable Melee Fighter: Flatline is also skilled in using melee combat, using a boxer and wrestling type moves in order to weaken his opponent or hold them off. He particularly applies his knowledge as a medic to his combat style, aiming for the weaker spots of a Cybertronian's frame type or using this knowledge to gain the upper hand. He is also particularly handy with heavy hitting melee weapons, favoring hammers, broad swords, and axes as his chosen weapons if they are on hand.
+Fearlessness: Flatline also has a particular knack for being fearless when the time calls for it. He knows that as one of the Decepticons top medics time could be his friend or his enemy, and sometimes that requires facing danger head on to handle an emergency. He also knows he doubles as a Decepticon heavy hitter, making him necessary to turn the tide in a battle from time to time with more than just his medical skills, which might require risking his own life for others, even if they might not be deserving of it.
Weaknesses:
+Bulky Frame: As much as a heavily armored frame is an asset, it does prove to be Flatline's enemy as well. His bulk slows him down and makes him far less agile, making his reliance on it both a blessing and a curse.
+No Filter: Unfortunately, Flatline's mouth has no filter and his face plate doesn't stop the sarcastic or flippant remarks that leave his mouth. He has some brass that has more often than not gotten him into trouble, more than proving to be his worse personality quirk that could one day seem him dead.
+Better medic than Fighter: There is no doubt that in his own right Flatline is a formidable fighter and can hold his own when times call for it. But his skills have been better suited to being a medic where he feels the most comfortable and know everything of what he is doing, even down to a subconscious thought as if his hands have a mind of their own. He does not share this same feeling on the battle field and thus is more than happy to spend more time in the medical bay than fighting Autobots.
+Dark Energon Corruption: During the earliest days of the war on Cybertron when little bits of dark energon was found, Flatline went about experimenting with a small sample he was able to get a hold of. Unfortunately, while he was doing some self-experimentation, his body absorbed the small sample of dark energon which corrupted his systems, which is slowly taking over his consciousness. He has no added benefits from the absorption but the more often he feels intense, negative emotions the more the corruption takes over and the closer Flatline is to losing his free thought.
+Preference for Long-range Combat: Due to his preference of handling his medic duties of his warrior ones, Flatline has come to have a preference for long range weaponry, especially those that pack a punch. This is mainly for his concerns in getting to a patient or patients quickly as possible and ensuring they avoid further damage.
Abilities:
+Extendable Secondary Hands: As a little experiment of his own, Flatline has smaller, three fingered arms that can extend from his mid-section at will. These act as a secondary usable appendages while his real hands are busy.
+Built-in Medical Tools/Tool Storage: As with most medics, Flatline has several tools he can store on his person or built in. Most of his smaller tools come right from his fingers while others might require to transform a part of his arm or hand to use. Some of these tools involve a small blow torch, small energon dagger for cutting, and assortment of other knick knacks depending on the situation.
Weaponry:
Two High-voltage Electric Cannons: Located behind either shoulder, Flatline's main long distance weapon of choice are the electric cannons visible on his back. These will deploy when needed and fire a potent amount of electricity capable of temporarily paralyzing a bot or leave a nasty, painful shock to remember him by.
Nex Hammer: Flatline has a personally made war hammer he calls the Nex Hammer, which is just slightly shorter than his own body length and is a rather nasty looking hammer he uses to swat away enemies. The very bottom also has two small prongs he can occasionally use for stabbing or has a feature in which he can build up an electric current in the hammer's head. Hitting a foe, or occasionally stabbing them, leaves an additional nasty shock.
Flatline also occasionally uses his medical tools as weapons, most often the blow torch, energon dagger, or others if necessary, though rarely resorts to it.
History: Flatline hails form the city of Tyger Pax, sparked sometime during the earlier days of the caste system when things seemed a tad more lenient. However, Flatline did not remain here long but rather decided to move to Iacon when he grew an interest in learning to become a medic. He enlisted to begin his studies the first chance he got while making up a little home here during this period, finding being a medic came rather naturally to him.
Several years of Flatline's function was spent in Iacon learning, and eventually, working there, even interacting with some of the seasoned medics such as Ratchet and Pharma from time to time. Initially, he quite enjoyed his life, finding he had a bit more freedom to do what he needed than most other bots did. In his free time, the bulky mech would spend his days wandering Iacon, enjoying the city's different legal and illegal pass times, and showing a growing interest in body modification and building readily available bodies. Thus, he did occasionally look into the process of cold-construction, fascinated with the complexities of the Cybertronian forms and what it took to create an entire body ready for a spark.
Sadly, the life he had grown to know and enjoy was not to last as things began to gradually go down hill with the caste system. Flatline was one of those many who grew increasingly angered by how Sentinel Prime was running things and seemed to make things stricter or turned a blind eye to some of the glaring issues. Becoming less than impressed with how things were being run in Iacon and neighboring city-states, Flatline decided to abandon his suppose to be assignment in life, taking his services to the more shady, seedy underground, setting up shop near Kaon. It was here that Flatline began to find opportunity to use his knowledge as a medic and cybertronian biology to make a profit and conduct sometimes illegal experimenting.
When the tension at last broke across Cybertron, Flatline enlisted in the Decepticons, having been working alongside the shody gladiatorial medical staff and was one of those rallied to join the cause. It was during the next several millennia that Flatline adapted himself to become a warrior and field medic, acting as a heavy hitter one time and another as one of the head medics under Megatron. He also played a large part in upgrading bots to be battle ready or giving them new frames that were more fitting for war, still allowing a chance for him to experiment from time to time. But some unique upgrades inspired Flatline to make a modification to his own frame, adding his two additional arms he currently has.
When the Exodus occurred, Flatline was one of many who abandoned their home but not before he cam across what remained of the dark energon found on Cybertron, curious to what he could maybe do with it. Once well away and not in immediate danger, he began trying to examine the unique form of energon, trying to find a use for it. But Flatline's carelessness resulted in him accidentally breaking open the container he kept it in for safety reasons and absorbing the small amount he had, taking several hours before he could become himself again. That began a day that made Flatline's anger and intense emotions heightened to being volatile and something he had to deal with as he traveled from one galaxy to the next.
After hearing some chatter over the Decepticon frequencies though, Flatline began making his way to the backwater planet known as Earth, putting himself in temporary stasis for the past few years. Quite recently, his ship has finally reached its destination and has a rough crash landing on Earth, jolting him from stasis.
