Characters: Open Location: Edge of Jasper Content Warnings: N/A Plot Summary: Dylan, now with more freedom, gets his kicks after a well-executed prank.
Dylan couldn’t stop laughing as he jogged out of the school.
He knew he would so be in trouble on Monday, but it’d been worth it to see the look on his teachers face when the ink bomb went off in his desk. Was it a little much for that last F on his homework? Maybe. But he also knew that it wasn’t anything to worry about - maybe Detention at best considering he hadn’t hurt the old geezer.
Hopefully they just didn’t call Pharma.
Either way, he’d decided not to go straight back to base after school. He’d yet to meet up with his friends lately so he knew it was time to play catch up. Or at least he had hoped for it until he’d gotten to their usual meet up for them to not be there.
So now he had a few hours to kill since he said he’d not need a pick up for a while. Which left him on the curbside near the edge of town debating. KO Burger? Nah, not hungry. Movies? Maybe...
Being back in Jasper couldn't have been more weird and welcoming all at the same time. But to say Bumblebee wasn't happy to be in familiar surroundings would be a lie. The muscle car rarely found himself on this side of the United States, knowing he now had his own team and base to run, make sure no one was destroying it (specially not his own team themselves). It was almost a welcoming change now, mostly for the fact Crown City and its surrounding area had become as familiar as Jasper had become.
Presently, he was enjoying cruising around the place, not really in much of a rush or having a care in the world. Although, his coms were still always on alert and he never stopped being aware of what was going on around him. So, Bumblebee was taking it slow but he wasn't dropping his guard completely. Anything could happen after all...such as spotting someone rather familiar as he approached the edge of Jasper.
It was one of the regulars of the Autobots' human allies. It made him wonder how Raf was handling him not being around nearly as often as he once was but he tried not to think about being unable to see one of his closest human friends like he wanted to. "Not causing trouble again are you Dylan?" The yellow and black mech spoke as he approached, seeing they were alone at the present time and stopping by the curb. He shifted his mirrors once more to be certain before he opened the passenger side door, "Might as well hop in so you don't look like a bump on a log standing there." Bumblebee teased.
It had been a while since he’d seen Bumblebee, but it was always nice to see him. He’d been one of the mechs that it hadn’t been used to trust at all. He was so kind and friendly that it had been super easy actually. “Bee! Good to see you, bud!” He notes as he stood up, making an approach. “Eh, at I ever not making trouble? Don’t know if you heard but I’m living on-base now. So if you ask Fowler I’m causing even more for him.” He snorted a bit.
Of course, he happily hopped into the passengers side door. As he buckled himself in, he leaned back a bit, closing the door as he did. “Actually glad you came by. I was supposed to meet friends but they bailed. And I do not want to go back to base yet,” he noted, not wanting to deal if Pharma got a call. “I, Uh, pulled a fast one on my teacher and I’m sure they’ve called Pharma by now.”
"I don't think I've heard much of an update of what's gone on there Dylan, but glad you can live with the others more foten." Bumblebee said with surprise, having been somewhat out of the loop as of late when it came to Team Prime. Honestly, he really wished he could hear more about what was going on except when something major or dire occurred. Maybe one of these days he could figure out a rhythm and be able to visit more while maintaining his own leadership thee at the scrapyard.
Closing the door, Bumblebee's engine revved before he drove down a corner, following along the outskirts rather than going right to base. "Oh? Why don't-" Before Bumblebee could even ask the question, Dylan was already telling him why. And though he was amused he was also...confused. "Okay, so you pulled a prank, I'm getting that part. But why in the name of the Primes would they call Pharma exactly?" Bumblebee inquired, genuinely wondering what he was missing here.
Ah, that made sense. Dylan gathered, it had been a while since he’d seen the scout after all. It actually felt weird sometimes not having him around, mostly because it seemed like there was a time he was always there. When Bumblebee commented on the fact about Pharma he kinda smirked a little. Of course, he hadn’t thought about that but boy was he in for a surprise. “Man I forgot how much you missed it’s more than just once in a while now.”
Dylan paused a moment, knowing it was a long-ish story. “Well since you started hanging out in Crown City. They uh, moved me to another group home. And that was getting crowded so they were moving me to another foster home,” Yeah that was about as bad as it sounded. “But uh, before they could I met Pharma. And I guess it’s kinda weird in a good way - but he managed to convince Fowler to let him adopt me... I mean it hasn’t happened yet, officially he’s fostering me. But I actually live there full-time now and everything.”
"To be fair, I am having to look after mostly teengers, bot and human wise. Then I also have a Dinobot to worry about." Bumblebee chuckled, only able to think of all the crazy adventures his team had endured, much less enduring each other. Man, now this had been a ride of his that was for sure.
Still cruising down the roads, Bumblebee carefully listened as Dylan began to catch him up on his going-ons at the base. So, he had about been moved yet again, and Primus only knew what that place would have been like. Sometimes he would never understand how humans worked, and other times he seemed to understand them more than any of his fellow Autobots. Yet it was the last part that made him suddenly slam on his breaks in astonishment. Did he just hear that right? Pharma was not only fostering Dylan but preparing to adopt him?! And Fowler was allowing this!
It took a full moment for that information to sink into his processor, mentally trying to comprehend of all bots Pharma was the one adopting a human. "Are you serious about all of that? And Fowler allowed it?" He asked in bewilderment.
Dylan tried to comprehend all of that, damn he had a lot of people to handle didn’t he? That was for sure as Dylan listened to him list off all the different ones. “Man that definitely sounds like a handful. Just be glad I’m not down there. I’d probably make it worse!” He teased with a small chuckle.
He wa thrown off by Bee slamming on his brakes. Well that was definitely not the reaction he was expecting, though he shouldn’t be surprised it was a bit jarring for everyone. He crossed his arms a bit and leaned back. “Yeah, I know right? Surprised me too. Took three weeks for him and the government to lay ground rules,” he explained honestly. “It’s been pretty weird but a good weird y’know? I mean I finally am kinda, sorta one of you guys. And maybe in a few months I won’t have to ever move around again.”
He leaned back a bit, his eyes traveling out the window. “I mean it’s a good thing but a part of me hopes it’s for real, y’know that it lasts.” He had to admit, he had those fears and Bee was someone he always felt he could open up to.
“A handful is putting it rather mildly Dylan.” Bumblebee admitted, knowing between Sideswipe’s antics and Strongarm’s strict by the book rules attitude he never had a dull moment. And that was perhaps the only thing keeping Bumblebee on his toes as of late. It had been a while since a new prisoner had been found from the prisoner manifest, making him on edge as it was. And it was a wonder he didn’t lose his mind over the fact. How did anyone like Optimus, Ultra Magnus, and Rodimus handle this?
But, he thought over what Dylan was telling him and finally began driving again. “I suppose just about anything is really possible isn’t it?” The yellow and black mech commented, finding it amazing how swiftly things changed when you were away for a while. “I don’t think Pharma would give you up like that Dylan. He has quite the reputation don’t get me wrong, but I have never known him to abandon something he is especially passionate about, or someone in this case.” Bumblebee didn’t know the medic well, but he had heard the rumors, the sayings, what was said among the ranks. So, it wasn’t unlikely someone like Bumblebee who knew Pharma mostly by word-of-mouth wouldn’t be surprised by these events. But, he did try to see the good side of things.
“Look, when you get down to it, you’ve been with us far too long for anyone to consider you getting sent away. Especially what you’be told me, someone would intervene.” Bumblebee assured him. All of their allies became family over time, and to lose one family it would be felt by everyone regardless.
“Well I mean how bad could it be?” Dylan asked with a shrug given he had no idea. “I mean the hijinks can’t be any worse than on Omega-1.”
He guessed what he said was true though. Why would Pharma give him up? The mech had been very kind to him. Looked out for him, made sure he was comfortable and happy. At the same time though until the dotted line was signed there’d always be that small, nagging doubting in the back of his mind. “True. It’s all been an adjustment though. I mean I’m sure you know what I mean but living on a base like that day to day is crazy,” he laughed a little. “I actually have to do homework and help out when I’m there now. Which is weird, especially when you have giant robots telling you to do that. Or go to bed, you have school in the morning. But I like it, it’s nice knowing I have all of you guys around if HE ever comes back especially.” He wasn’t going further than that. But everyone knew at the very least his dad was in jail for hurting him and that was all everyone but a select few needed to know.
He leaned back and then added. “Which is good to know. I gotta admit I always worried it’d happen like that - getting taken away from you guys or whatever to some out of state home or something,” he explained, then a bit brighter added. “Hey! You know what we should do? You still do any *ahem* races?”
Now if only that part were true, “Not that bad? I dare you to come to the Crown City base one day, you will change your mind in a few hours.” Bumblebee was probably regret that dare though. When him and Dylan were around one another they normally got into some kind of trouble. Whether someone found out right away or not was one thing. Sometimes he could completely avoid the possibility of being found out. He had learned to keep such hijinks to himself of course.
“It might be strange, but at least you’ll have a stable life here. For the most part.” Bumblebee chuckled a little, knowing the Autobots weren’t entirely the most stable of environments. But it had to be better than what he had been living with for sometime now. And to be honest, the former scout was glad Pharma had adopted his friend. It just showed that even the most unlikely Autobot could care regardless of the species. It was why Bumblebee likes his fellow Autobots so much and the fact their human allies had come to view them as close family members as any of their human family.
The mention of races made Bumblebee muse over those days he could be reckless once, but that had changed since becoming a lieutenant. “They have legal annual races in Crown City, and we’ve given those a try. But our usual races not lately. I’m lucky to have time to wax my frame anymore.” Bumblebee admitted, but there was an obvious hint of excitement and mischief in his tone. Jasper was small but he was well aware of the underground racing.
“But no one said we couldn’t do a few now while I’m in Jasper.” Bumblebee’s voice practically spoke of his mischievous intentions. And if he were in his robot mode he would be grinning from audio to audio.
Dylan had the most mischievous grin on his face at the thought of going to Crown City for a bit. He’d hardly ever been outside of Jasper his whole life, maybe once or twice on missions at best. “I’d love to come by Crown City! Talk about a heck of a vacation!” He explained, a grin on his face.
True that, a stable life and home was definitely a good thing. He hadn’t actually had that before, a few homes had looked that way of course but was he ever lucky enough to stay? Well he wouldn’t be there if he was, would he? “True, I mean it’s good for me. Especially knowing when I wake up to nightmares, it’s not in a house with strangers,” he knew Bee would know what he meant. “Luckily I haven’t had one of those in a while though.”
There went that sly smirk again. Heck yes! It had been forever since they’d done this after all. Probably the last time being when Jack and Vince got into so much trouble honestly. But Dylan didn’t want to let the time be passed up. “Ohhhh yeah! I’m still in a few chat rooms where I can find out where the latest “races” are,” he explained with a wink. Even if Bee couldn’t see it probably.
He’d love to come to the city. Well, Bumblebee pretty much expected that response, and deep down he could already feel shenanigans would ensue. Some of which he never hear the end of. But, he put these thoughts aside for now, because what was the chance of that happening anytime soon right?
“You’re in good hands either way Dylan, I can promise you that.” Bumblebee assured him, having no doubts despite the chaos at times the Autobots cares for their allies and who was under the protection. But, he tried to turn to more positive thoughts, such as getting in on a race. “Then pull up those chats and start looking. I’m sure there has to be one going on sometime soon.” Bumblebee spoke excitedly, engine revving in anticipation as he drove.
But, just in case there was one nearby, the yellow and black muscle car pulled off to the side of the road, sitting idly. “Just tell me where to go.” The mech told him, waiting with anticipation for his passenger to possibly find a potential race. “And let’s hope Pharma doesn’t happen to call in while we’re in the middle of it all.”
Dylan of course had the opposite thoughts. He’d kind of just always wanted to visit a big city like that. He did pay more attention when Bumblebee did bring it up how he was in good hands and how he should pull up the chats. Because of course, he was all over that within seconds, going straight to social media. “Yeah, I know. And I sure as hell feel safe for the first time in my life. No way my dads getting through any of you guys to get to me. Just knowing you guys are always around now makes me feel safe.” He admitted.
He licked the side of his lip as Bumblebee mentioned Pharma finding out or calling. “Bee, have we met? I can talk my way around just about anything. I was even more of a rebel before you guys met me,” he explained, a little too proudly if they were being quite honest. “Ohhh there’s one in two hours at our old spot. I hope Vince is there want to wipe the smile off that punks face again.9
"Everything will work out Dylan, you just got to stay positive. Sometimes, that's the only thing that helps you through hard times." Bumblebee told him, know it might be a while before Dylan would ever feel at ease. But, just knowing he had friends and family that did care about him had to be of some comfort he was certain. The yellow mech though left it at that, not wanting to dampen their fun they had planned.
Two hours huh, looks like they had time to kill. "Oh I'm sure he will be. Let's hope the Decepticons aren't this time, Primus knows Arcee about had my hide last time I allowed one of you to take me on a street race." Bumblebee mused. Sure, last time it had meant racing against Knock Out hurting Vince but in the end things had worked out. Not that the high school bully had been humbled by the experience. Some humans were just that ungrateful.
"But, now the question is, you getting in the drive side or am I using my holoform?" Bumblebee inquired as he began speeding off towards the meeting spot, though not so fast not to come rolling up without a driver of some kind.
