Dylan nodded he definitely understood that for sure. It was a bit harder to feel that safety at times. But he also knew Bee was right. He finally was surrounded by people who loved and cared about him. As a result he knew that in the end things had to work out right? “You’re right, Bee. Which I appreciare, y’know? I just am glad I don’t have to worry about much anymore. Other than Decepticons.” And his dad but he would not stop worrying about that soon.
Dylan whistled to himself as he added that. “Hey! I only put the suggestion out there for you to street race back then. Jack’s the one that convinced you to do it again!” He said, ok that was not much better though.
Of course, a wicked grin crossed his face. He was definitely getting into the drivers seat. He had his permit and he was a few months shy of sixteen, this was not a question. “Oh I’m totally getting in the drivers seat. I just can’t get caught because I want my license when I hit sixteen!” He explained.
"Hey, either way you slice it, you and Jack still got us all in trouble. I found dirt in places in the base I never thought it would be." Bumblebee told him, snorting softly at recalling his own punishment back then. He had been reckless he would admit, but he had figured it would result from harmless fun. Okay, so street racing wasn't exactly harmless in and of itself, but the point had been to simply beat the school bully, help Jack get the girl, and be done with it.
"Well, until we get there, I'll remedy that with an alternative disguise." Bumeblee projected his holoform then, right in the driver seat. Reflecting his mental state as a Cybertronian though, the man looked no older than in his twenties, a broad grin on his face. "Don't worry, you'll be in good hands for a cover." Well, he hoped his holoform would be a viable cover. Mean, far as anyone needed to know Bumblebee was just a family member, an older brother as he often felt when it came to Dylan and others on his team. Yea, it would all work out.
Revving his engine once more, Bumblebee sped up just a little, heading for the meeting spot they had taken the last race that had once involved Knock Out.
“Well it’s not like Vince didn’t deserve it,” Dylan rolled his eyes, it was true, he had. He remembered the many things he called him over the years “Foster Boy”, “Gutter Rat”, “Daddy’s Boy” (that one had made his blood boil), the works. “And he hasn’t bothered me since then either! Which as an even bigger plus!” He explained rather bluntly.
Dylan jumped - God he would never get used to those holoforms. He always found it a bit strange to think of the Bots as humans, but at the same time they did come in handy. “Smart. Since I don’t think we want anyone seeing a car driving itself,” he explained with a cross of his arms and another smirk. “So this team of yours, who are they anyway? I know one of them is I guess my “niece”, Strongarm.” He put emphasis on that given he had yet to meet her yet.
"No one is saying he didn't deserve it Dylan, but we are till required to protect human life. Compared to someone like your father, Vince isn't nearly as bad." Bumblebee pointed out. He knew most of their human allies that came to and from base there in Jasper hated Vince since he was the resident top dog at the school. Or so he thought. But truth of the matter was, Vince so far hadn't been to the level of some humans, so he had to be saved just as Jack or Dylan would have to be.
But, Bumblebee couldn't help giving a slight grin. "I know its a shocking development to see me bother using a holoform, but can't roll up with you coming out of the passenger side. Then there really would be questions." He mused. But, the Auotbots did have a few tricks up their sleeves to avoid being seen without a driver present, such as tinted windows. Now those were handy when actually driving about in traffic.
Well, he should have seen that question coming. "Where do I begin." Bumblebee laughed a little, because his team was really a ragtag group, pretty much thrown together for circumstance of needing a secondary team. "Well, Strongarm is a police cadet, really strict and by the book but she has her spark in the right place. Really looks up to the veterans. Sideswipe is...well, prankster, smart mouthed, arrogant, basically typical teenager. Same antics me and you use to get into all the time." Bumblebee really couldn't help shaking his head, reminiscing of the bickering the two had, "And now I don't hear the end of Strongarm's and Sideswipe's beef with one another. But anyway," Bumblebee continued, leaning back against the seat. "I also have a former fugitive who has more than redeemed himself, the Dinobot Grimlock. He can be fierce when we need him, but he's a big softy too. Clumsy sometimes, but nevertheless good at spark."
But, that was only just what he had started out with.
Dylan tensed up at the mention of his father. But he knew that was true. Vince was a kid like him and stupid at the very least. That said, he did wish they could lift that for other reasons - his father, dictators, slavers, and many more. He sighed quietly, and nodded his head. “Yeah I guess that’s true,” he then added. “But you day compared to my father. You’re not saying you’d actually do anything to him would you...? I mean if he got out of prison.” He was definitely curious.
“Well duh, that would be confusing as hell.” Dylan laughed.
He began to nod along as Bumblebee listed off his team. There was that name again: Sideswipe. He definitely had to meet this guy and Sunstreaker sometime - they sounded like his kind of mechs. Wait did he just say Dinobot? “Wait a dinobot? What is that? Is that literally a dinosaur robot? Because if it is that’s soooo cool!” He brought up instantly.
"I won't neither confirm nor deny something wouldn't happen to him Dylan, if he came looking for you." Bumblebee didn't really meet Dylan's gaze when he mentioned it. In fact, his face, for once, went rather neutral. The Autobots could be good people, there was no denying that. But, there were times when even their limits could be pushed and the anger came out before one knew it. "The point is, Vince isn't anything to the level your father is." Bumblbee spoke seriously, almost dismissively to signify that was as far as he was willing to go on the matter.
But Dylan seeming to glow at the prospect of a robotic dinosaur quickly brought the grin back to Bumblebee's face, "He actually transforms into a form resembling an Earth t-rex, so yea he's a dinosaur. But, you know, from Cybertron." Bumblebee confirmed with a chuckle, glad to divert their attentions to more light hearted topics rather than continue on the darker ones.
His engines revved slightly, approaching the meeting location. But, seeming as they still had a bit before others would show, Bumblebee veered off the road and rolled to a halt next to the draining canal, powering down to idle. "So, do we know who our competition is? Or we waiting until they all get here?" Bumblebee asked, peering out of his driver side window, waiting to spot any of the other street racers.
Dylan had a feeling he knew what Bee meant. If his dad got out, and if he came after him he’d have more than a few angry robots ready to come for him. And for the record he had seen him mad, and a mad Bee was definitely a scary one. He ran a hand along his dashboard a bit. A little thankful to know he had people looking out for him like that now now. “Thanks Bee, I’m... it’s good to know you have my back,” he explained, it as the best way he could put it. “And obviously. Few people are. Maybe Megatron.”
His grin broadened. A t-Rex? Oh my god he had to meet this guy. That had to be the coolest alt mode he had ever heard of. “Oh man that is so cool! I have to meet this guy! Like I am so going to your base sometime. No questions.” He exclaimed.
His question brought Dylan out of his drooling. Looking st the list of people posting about it and looking for any names that may pop up. Hmmm... Vince was definitely there. Sierra too. Shocking. “Ohhh one dude has a Ferrari! That dude is asking to get trashed.” He then explained. “But we at least got Vince and Sierra coming. Go figure.”
The mention of Megatron made Bumblebee visibly cringe, his holoform's hand coming to gently rub the area of his neck. A ghostly pain seemed to return as he recalled the memory of Megatron personally torturing him, trying to force the scout-turned-lieutenant into loosening his lips. But, Bumblebee had refused and had paid nearly with his life. "Megatron is definitely in that category Dylan." The muscle car muttered, shuddering at the recollection of such a moment.
Forcing that memory aside, Bumblebee gave Dylan a quick, small smile, "Well, I am planning to hold auditions for the team soon. Maybe you can join me back to the scrapyard, be an impartial judge. Chances are Grimlock will be there, he like a good tussle more than any of us." Bumblebee suggested. Maybe this was earlier than expected for such an offer, but Bumblebee wouldn't mind a second pair of eyes...
Looking back down to the drainage ditch, he could already hear the revving of engines, obviously marking some were arriving. "A ferrari? Seriously?" Bumblebee snorted with disbelief, "I'll leave that thing in the dust." He said with a confident grin, before nodding. "I figured they might show." But one thing the muscle car would be looking out for is race-happy Decepticons. There was still the possibility of a repeat with Knock Out who he suspected still went on his street racing escapades and others joining the Decepticon ranks probably would share in such indulgences.
Dylan shuddered again himself - knowing that was right. Who knew what horrible things that Megatron did that he didn't even know about. Though he really hoped that the guy had never had kids himself. So he'd never find out just how comparable to his dad he was. "I wish we could just wipe people like him and my dad out sometimes." He grumbled.
Ohhhh now that would be fun! Getting to be an impartial judge? Oh he loved being able to be loud and crazy for a reason! "Sweet! I'm totally going! I mean I'll have to make sure Pharma's OK with it. But I'm pretty sure he won't trip. After all I'd be around other Autobots who won't let anything happen to me." He explained.
Dang, Bumblebee seemed pretty ready to crush the competition! Dylan liked it, because he definitely was right there with him! "Oh yeah, we're gonna crush 'em." He explained rather excitedly. "And besides, a Ferari hasn't got anything on you!"
Trying not to think about those darker times, Bumblebee tried to keep focused on what they were doing. “I’m sure Pharma won’t mind. It’s just a ground bridge away and if anything happens there are more than enough Autobots to get you out or keep you safe. Strongarm included.” The yellow and black mech said with a quick grin. Yea, he didn’t have to worry. Sometimes he probably was a little too on edge when considering their allies, but thus far Steeljaw and other Decepticon fugitives has failed to get the drop on them. So far.
Revving his engine, Bumblebee drove forward and headed down into the drainage ditch, engine giving a loud rev that caused some heads to turn. Oh slag yea he was excited! It had been forever since he could really remember ever having fun outside Crown City. “I can feel it in my circuits, this is going to be an easy win.” Bumblebee said with eagerness in his eyes, and it took everything he had for his entire frame not to tremble with anticipation.
Dylan nodded in agreement. That was definitely true - it wasn’t like he was just going out with Bee into uncharted territory. This was another base and he technically had family there. “True. I think people are just on edge. One of the other kids on base got captured recently. So if you have to talk him into it anyway, just don’t be shocked,” he said honestly. “Because they still haven’t managed to get him back.”
Dylan grinned, letting himself just look chill and ready to go himself. Like hell he wa going to not watch Vince get his butt kicked again - because they both knew that was happening. “All I know is I’m gonna pay good money to see the look on Vince’s face when he notices I’m with you,” he snorted.
"Captured..." Bumblebee repeated, a frown appearing on his holo-forms face with concern. It was never a good sign when one of their own was captured, having heard Ratchet and Pharma had both faced such a situation recently. "The Autobots will find a way to get him back Dylan, we always find a way." Bumblebee assured him, knowing most of the Autobots well enough he would trust any of them with his life. For now though, there wasn't much he could do.
Once they pulled up where the other cars were presently parked, Bumblebee's form went into an idle state for the time being. "Might as well, you might be able to make a few bucks tonight if they're placing bets." The lieutenant gave a slight smirk, his competitive side coming out from his anticipation of sweeping the floor with Vince and the other racers. "Lets go face our adoring public." Bumblebee told him, before stepping out from his form, seeing mixed looks of nervousness and glares shooting their way.
'What could possibly go wrong?' Bumblebee thought to himself, so far seeing no suspicious looking vehicles.
At the very least he could imagine that they would. The Autobots left no man behind at all - they were always a big family like that. And he knew that Warpath was no doubt worried about what was happening to his adopted son at this point. “Yeah they’re gonna get him from what I hear. His dad - well adopted dad, he’s a Wrecker,” he then added. “And something tells me the last thing you want is a pissed off Wrekcer Dad showing up to kick your ass.”
He grinned at the thought of betting.
He didn’t even need to be told twice, he srarted off putting his bets in now. After all, Pharma couldn’t be mad if he came back after winning money, could he? Well, at least he could dream so. After a minute - he started to return to Bee when a voice shot out. ”Oh look! The foster freak came out to play!” Dylan winced, turning to see Vince behind the wheel of his own car, window rolled down. ”Still doing Logan? Really? Come onnn gonna end up just like daddy just way. Bet he’d love to see you again in prison.”
Dylan threw open the door and got inside - not wanting to play into the obvious trap. “Ok no matter what we finish we have to beat that guy this time. He needs to be taken down a few pegs.”
Bumblebee's holoform leaned against the hood for now, crossing his arms as he watched other racers showing up or going from one car to another. He heard exchanges of beefs and feuds, admiration for certain modifications, paint jobs, and asking advice here and there. Yea, not much had changed for the illegal racing here in Jasper. Still a small town, still the same thing despite having since moved to Crown City.
His eyes shifted to Dylan as he moved back towards his form...until he heard Vince make a remark that caused Bumblebee's energon to boil and his engine revved angrily. Never a single break for their allies regardless of where they went; Vince already caused problems with Raf and Jack, and it was taking a lot to keep his temper in check each time. But Vince often went too far and something...snapped briefly in Bumblebee, who got to his feet. "Why don't you keep your comments to yourself d*****bag, and mind your own ride. It would be a shame if it got scratched up." Bumblebee said coldly as he came towards Vince, his body seeming to move on its own as he gave a quick right hook to his face as a warning towards Vince to back off.
But the moment he realized what he did, Bumblebee quickly backed off without a word, hearing "ooohs" and whistles at the action. It was revenge and no better than some violent reactions from his enemies, but the muscle car couldn't help it. He was tired of seeing his friends picked on and nothing done about it.
Holoform getting right back into his form, the door slammed shut, his breathing a bit heavy from his anger. Giving a few deep, calming intakes he tried to calm that brief anger that spiked. "That never happened, whatever anyone asks, I didn't do a thing." Bumblebee muttered, feeling some guilt for breaking one of Optimus' most important rules. But, he had seen it necessary just this once.
Had Bumblebee seriously just punched Vince? Like in the face. Dylan could hear all sorts of cussing coming from the older teen, who was looking over at him with what looked like a black eye. Dylan... Well he wasn’t used to that a lot. In the world of foster care there wasn’t a lot of people always looking out for you. But at the same time, he’d had the Bots there for them a lot.
But this was definitely the first time in a long while someone actually stuck up for him like THAT though.
Dylan looked over at Bumblebee’s holoform quite unsure of how to react. He knew Bumblebee was not one to be messed with, but damn, even he hadn’t seen that right hook coming. “Whoa... that was awesome. And intense,” he then added rather seriously. “I mean, thanks. And don’t worry your secrets safe with me. But still thanks.”
He paused a moment and then added. “At least he doesn’t know where I’m living now. So you’re probably off the hook.”
