Characters: @sv19, Sari Sumdac Location: Outreaches of the city, wildlife, near the highways. Content Warnings: Sever use of the letters 'e' and 's'. Plot Summary: Sv19 suffers no radio contact to his Decepticon brethren due to equipment failure. He requires a repair. It is his luck that he crosses paths with the human Sari Sumdac. Her father has an entire company dedicated to science and technology---but if negotiations for equipment repair are to begin, Sari needs some fun...
When the music stopped playing, Sv19 knew what had happened. In his Aerojet experimental vehicle alternate mode, he halted himself to a screech as he tried his radio once more. The fizzing sound never ceased, the spazz of the radio eerily ringing the same note, as no more of Sv19's newly discovered beloved tunes were postponed. He found himself disappointed that the delightful hours he'd indulged in the artists known as Mozart were now over. This was not the most regrettable note for his trial to be marked by. No radio meant no communications. He now had a frequency handicap, and he would be unable to speak with any of his brethren, or keep in touch with them. He rolled himself to the side of the road, pulling to the side of a small park. He was about a kilometer off form the town, and not too many were driving along the high-way.
He thusly began to transform. His T-cog two was second hand, as if perhaps his own designers had only had tinfoil or too few bolts for his invaluable application. His joints strained, his metal screeched as his servos half formed, his spine bending at a terribly angle. His chest was still taking form as his mostly formed servo clawed at the earth to keep his balance, then a leg sprouted from the cab of the car, and steadily, another was produced, unfolding gradually until he was standing upon two legs, his two arms stretching. Until at last, he achieved his robot form completely. He frowned at the marks in his armor that had been ingrained in the metal due to his poor transformation sequences. He was able to do anything else stealthily accept that. How he envied those who could fluidly shift from vehicle form to robot form.
Sv19 sighed at himself. turning off the radio, sick of its aggravating song. I've been here a few weeks and I'm already addicted to its music. Who knew humans could be so creative with goat intestines, and bring about such joyful sounding accouterments. Sv19 looked across the park. Not many really were there, no humans. He was alone. His twenty five foot chassis trundled across the grass, as he pondered how precisely he was going to asses this situation. He was no mechanic, that was for sure. Well how about this.
Sari smiled to herself as she walked through the park. It wasn't so much the game she was playing on her phone that involved her capturing strange digital monsters, but it was the thought, no.. the knowledge that she finally had some friends that she could interact with on a regular basis. Well, so long as she could sneak away from Tutor Bot for a bit.
Besides, if her father found out she was 'skipping lessons' again, she could easily argue the case that she was taking a gym class today. A gym class with her phone, looking for non-existent creatures.
Maybe she could visit Russell and the Autobots while she was out? Did.. Russell even go to a public school or was he home schooled like she was?
She hadn't been paying too much attention to where she was going, fiddling with her phone when she nearly bumped into something. The teenager only managed to catch the 'object' out of the corner of her eye as soon as she'd finished catching another monster. Looking away from her phone and directly in front of her, her eyes widened and she nearly shrieked.
"You again?!"
Maybe now would be a good time to call the Autobots?
Sv19 had taken off his ear-piece, trying to conclude what was wrong with it. He already knew the answer, however, protocols for faulty equipment was that he try to fix it. Even if he had never taken any sort of basic mechanic classes. Sometimes Sv19 wondered if vehicons were some kind of joke to the higher-ups, or anyone in charge of their rules. Most often, rules were slapped in every vehicons's mask, 'LOL NOOB, HERE'S A NEW POLICY!'
Then again, that was a rather negative thought directed towards his creators and trainers, and that wasn't going to get his transmitter repaired. His patience slowly dwindling, Sv19 slowly opened up the plating on the device, to inspect all it's inner workings. Not that he understood any of what he saw. A small brisk pillar of black smoke floated from the friend circuitry. Sv19 was kneeling on the ground, the machinery in his servo, before something bumped into the side of his leg. To his astonishment, the human he'd encountered earlier was now before him. His visor lit up a shade brighter upon him laying optics upon her before it faded back to it's original color.
"I was about to say the same of you, human." Sv19 returned his voice expressionless. The small pride he held of being perhaps a superior species to her was quickly forgotten the instant he realized that she held her own communication device, and could vey well call the local enforcers, or worse, attract the attention of the Auobots. The last thing a vehicon needed was multiple Autobots to handle. He wasn't about to beg her to not call the Autobots though. He had to distract her from that somehow. Or something. The fact that he was a twenty five foot tall robot who was on the faction who opposed the existence of humanity limited the amount of cards he could play.
"Before you call for any kind of help, how about I give you my word that I don't intend to kill you at all." Sv19 said as diplomatically as he could. It was obvious she could easily put him in a tight spot. He clearly didn't want her to call for the Autobots, and his broken communications device was in broad daylight, letting out the same kind of static any broken walkie talkie might~
Sari stared at Sv19 in surprise. She'd honestly not expected to encounter this guy again after her first meeting with Bumblebee and the others at the scrapyard base. She knew that it had an official name, but it was just a bit too long for her to remember it's name in full. Regardless, she had a Decepticon to deal with, or.. a Vehicon? The guy was a Decepticon. That's what she knew and that's what mattered.
As he spoke, her surprise turned into a glare. "You say 'human' like that's a bad thing or something."
The human girl promptly took up a fighting stance. She knew full well that there was no way that she was going to be able to take this guy on, but maybe she could make herself look threatening enough for him to back off this way? Or at least.. stall him until she could easily call for the Autobots.
That's when the Vehicon struck up some sort of promise that he wouldn't kill her. Could she really trust that he wouldn't? "And why should I believe some Decepticon, anyway? I was told you guys were the bad guys!"
It was around that time that she finally began to notice the static noise emanating from somewhere in the nearby vicinity. Sari didn't automatically tie it to the broken communication device on the mech, especially when she hadn't realized that had been what the device even was. What she did notice was that something did appear a little different with Sv19 from when they had last encountered.
Was she really entering a fighting stance? Sev’s visor blared down at her, as if in a brisk curious flash of light, as eh inspected her. She looked like she was ready to challenge him. Her own replies to his words made him tilt his helm for a moment, as he thought about her words. ‘Humans’. He hadn’t said it badly. He’d just said it monotonously. That wasn’t bad…maybe it was just rude in their culture. Perhaps she was just taking offense where there wasn’t any.
“You humans refer to us Cybertronians as ‘robots’ rather than our own designations. Is it because you do not actually know our actual names? Hence, you call us by our race.” Sev fingered his communications device, as he answered her question thoughtfully, giving her an example of what really was occurring in the scenario. He didn’t know this human’s name. He knew she had one though. He shrugged at her, as he glanced to the sky. The sun gleamed off his scratched dark silver armor, never reflecting on the playground equipment due to the fact that it was too dim and scathed. It was worn, but still perfect for use.
Sev inhaled as he kept his visor fixed on the human in her fighting stance. She actually looked perfectly harmless, and he felt he could ease some due to that fact. He was still wary of her ability to summon the Autobots, but she hadn’t done so instantly. So he stood a chance against her on that matter, so to speak. Still, his fingers did not twitch for any selection of his blades. He had yet to fully relax though. Her comment about whether she could truly trust him or not made him think for another moment.
“Logically, I do not believe you can.” He exhaled in slight defeat, but then hit on her next question. Her Autobot friends obviously have been busily indoctrinating her. Funny, how the Prime and his cronies are so eager to brainwash any they can. And they call us, the Decepticons, the ‘bad guys’. Sev never thought twice about the sentence, what vehicon would? “The Decepticons serve a just cause…huma----Hmm. What is your name?” He paused, leaning in closer to looked at her. He almost wanted to poke her arm, and see if a humans epidermis really was soft. “My number is Sv19. Some call me Sev.” He said the name with some pride, as if it were one of his greatest trophies.
"Well, duh! What else are we supposed to call you? I only know because I'm friends with the Autobots now, but that doesn't mean I know what your name is." Sari exited her fighting stance, crossing her arms as she looked to the mech questioningly. A simple 'hey, you' seemed a bit too informal, but then she had remembered that this guy was a Decepticon. That's what she'd learned after befriending Russell and Bumblebee, anyway.
As he moved, she quickly jumped back into a fighting stance, staying on the defensive. "B-Back off.. I know karate!"
..Barely.
As the dark armored mech spoke to her, confirming her suspicions, Sari smiled a bit. It had been more on the smug side, but she knew that this wasn't someone she could trust. At least.. not easily. She'd been told that they were the bad guys, and that the Autobots were trying to stop them from taking over the world or something like that. But then, the Vehicon stopped. Now he was asking for her name? "I'm Sari, but shouldn't you give me your name?" Just watch. The guy was going to think she had said 'sorry' instead of 'Sari'.
Sv19? Sev?
Sev it was..
"Alright then.. Sev. Just how are the Decepticons 'just'? As I recall you attacked my friend."
‘Well duh! what are we supposed to call you? I I only know because I’m friends with the Autobots , but that doesn’t mean I know what your name is.’
Sev nodded at the statement, “Precisely. It is that reason I previously called you by ‘human’, SaH-ri.” Her name was slightly mispronounced, and the instant the name left his mouth, Sev knew he’d mispronounced it. He furrowed his brows for a moment, “Saw-ri. Hmmm—“ Sev thought for a second longer, before nodding to himself, “As in ‘sorry’.” He realized. The human names were easy to hear, but tricky to reply back to. Despite the fact that he was learning the humans language, it was one thing to hear someone speak and completely another to pronounce it back properly. Sev seemed contented for a small moment, as his attention turned away from his broken communicator.
He tilted his head curiously when she said she knew karate. He guessed it was some sort of fighting technique. Whatever it was, it didn’t look like she had her form completely down. She still didn’t look threatening to him either. So the mech just remained where he was, rather indifferent to her stance as he listened to her.
“Decepticon ideals are just because of what we fight for.” Sev stated, collecting himself coolly, “I could talk a very long while about what we used to be. Then again, I would request you ask yourself if you’d truly believe me anyways.” Sev refered to her not trusting him, for obvious reasons. Still, it was worth a shot to see if he could open her mind a little. No doubt the Autobots had left out the part of the war-story where they were the slave-drivers “I suppose I’ll tell you anyways though Sari. I dislike it when my own questions aren’t answered. “The Decepticons fight for order. We mean to bring peace to the galaxy. The Autobots desire what they call ‘freedom’. In freedom there are no rules. Hence, they promote chaos. We Decepticons fight to bring order that chaos. It is the Autobots who spread the illusion of their freedom to other species.” Sev stated. He was reciting what he’d spent decades of, his voice sounded a tone more monotonous, as his brainwashing kicked in. He blinked after a second, as if resuming a portion of his more solid grip on life.
“I—always feel strange when discussing this topic. Perhaps I am not the most stable source for answers afterall.” Sev said. He knew something was off in his circuitry. But he also knew that his instincts had to be right. His mind was trying desperately hard for a few instants to wrap around what exactly was wrong with him, only for the programming to dodge around his thoughts—calling his attention back to the human. Then it was as if he never wondered what occurred in his mind. “I never attacked your friend. It was he who leapt from the bushes as I recall. If he had decided to be the first to attack, then that means I had to fight back in my defense.”
Sari had to fight back all urges to snark, only she didn't have to fight too hard when the Vehicon realized that he had said her name wrong to begin with. He tried once more, sounding out her name until he finally got it. "That's more like it."
As the girl let down her guard, she listened as the one known as Sev told his tale about the Decepticons and their ideals. It all sounded fine and dandy, but bringing peace to the galaxy? But that was the complete opposite of what Bumblebee and the others at the Clay's home had said. They had said that they were out to conquer said galaxies, and that the Autobots were all about the peace and such. Now it was confusing, but Bumblebee wouldn't lie about something like that, right? After all, he had protected her and Russell both when they first met.
But if they were both after peace.. and this supposed peace and order from the Autobots brought 'chaos'..
"That's not what order's about though. Haven't you guys tried, I don't know.. 'democracy' or something like that? Everyone gets a say? That's what we do here." It sounded like a good idea, but obviously that was not something that either side was going to be into.. or at least the Decepticons from what she knew. Either way, Sev didn't seem the most comfortable discussing the conversation, perhaps because he didn't know the entire story or something to that effect. But then he started the 'who shot first' game..
"Wait.. You had a scythe out and ready to attack us, didn't you? Bumblebee was just protecting us. Why would you bring out something like that if you didn't have any intention of attacking?"
As Sari spoke, Sev found himself fascinated by some of her answers regarding what order was. Perhaps this human wasn’t so indoctrinated by the Autobots afterall. He hadn’t done any research on the earth’s form of government, but he believed he could take it from this human. She had an unbelievably easy face to read, and she didn’t seem the type to tell any false truths.
“I was on patrol.” Sev answered simply, “I needed my weapons out. Especially if Autobots are lurking around Earth’s grounds. One can never be too careful. I wouldn’t kill humans pointlessly. That would be butchery.” Sev continued, “I kill only when I have to, or am ordered to. I am a soldier.” Sev paused for a second, letting the words sink in. Hopefully he wouldn’t have to kill this human anytime soon, or at all. He found her inquiring mind to be open, and…it was so nice to have a conversation with someone else other than other vehicons. She spoke to him more like he was a person than anyone else normally did. The one exception being Pyro. In short, if he had to kill her, he’d see to it her death would be as quick and painless as possible.
He grunted as he moved the grim thoughts of his mind away. He’d been doing too much knife-throwing practice and had been winding himself up too tight with this war and trying so very hard to survive and obey orders. Sev supposed maybe more sentient lifeforms lived longer because they were able to ex-vent to someone else and weren’t talked down to so often.
“Democracy.” He broke the second’s worth of silence rather abruptly. “Everyone getting a say…that sounds odd Sari. Perhaps you could enlighten me on more details regarding your form of legislation. Nonetheless, if everyone had a say, wouldn’t that slow decision making down? If everyone gets a say does that not make it easy for enemies to catch word of decisions being made?” Sev asked, the calm monotonous voice was now completely gone. A curiosity had replaced it, a slightly gentler voice now exited Sev’s outtake.
"I can understand your Autobot ally's actions." Sev said next. He decided to no longer muse on the Autobot too much, or try to avoid that one. Sari could get rather emotional about the fact that Sev would have likely embedded a claymore in the mech's chest if given the opportunity. The thought stifled the vehicon's more peaceful thought pattern, but he managed to keep his more docile nature.
A Decepticon who didn't want to kill humans? At least.. without a need to? That just seemed so strange to Sari. From what she had learned about the Decepticons from the Autobots, they were more of a destructive bunch, and if they didn't kill humans, they'd at least use them as bait for Autobots. But this guy.. he didn't do any such thing. It baffled the poor girl, really, but she wasn't going to look the gift horse in the mouth. Maybe some Decepticons were just different from the others, and weren't as harsh as everything said.
Not that she wanted to get into a careless way of thinking, of course.
However, Sev did take interest in this Democracy that the humans had upheld, or at least where she lived anyway. He wanted to know more, and Sari had to think for a moment to find the best way of describing the concept to the Vehicon. "Well.. Every four years we have this thing called an 'election', and two candidates try to appeal to everyone about how they would run things. They'd be limited in what they could control of course, but.. everyone votes for who they want, and the most popular wins.. and then we do it again in another four years. Of course, we do the same thing for other matters too.. like laws and such. I'm too young to take part in it, but that's ok." Sari blinked, thinking to herself. "Though other places on Earth are run differently. Some have kings and queens, some places have emperors, so on and so forth."
But then the discussion went in the direction the day they had met, when Bumblebee had defended the girl and Russell when Sev had appeared. Sev had understood why Bee had done what he did, and it had come to much relief to Sari. "Then why didn't you just say you weren't going to harm us? I'm sure he would've listened." She didn't realize that the Vehicon didn't want to talk more about the Autobot, and likely would've felt bad if she had known. One way or another, she was gonna find out.
Sev meditated on the the form of government Sari spoke of for a little while, soaking in her words like a sponge. The thought of another kind of government caused the vehicon to furrow his brow in deep thought. This democracy sounded so strange. Everyone having a say, or deciding who lead them. It meant that every candidate would likely have to make themselves appealing. Sev couldn't recall the Decepticons using this method previously, but then again he wasn't proving an ace at history. His training hadn't provided him with absolute knowledge of Decepticon history. It did give him the knowledge of how to survive extremely well. However, Sev sometimes felt he could do so much more than just survive. Some part deep down inside him felt that maybe...just maybe he could find a way to live.
Knowledge, as far he was concerned, was his best antidote to his predicament. Democracy. He'd be doing some exploring in the Nemesis's archives if he could. He needed to see if Decepticon had handled this kind of legislation. Sev frowned behind his mask as Sari brought up the Autobot. The image of the Autobot pointing his guns was still fresh in Sev's mind. In his colorblind world of blacks, whites and grey, he could easily recall the full depth perception of the brightly grey-sh white mech with his guns pointed directly at the vehicon himself.
"I do not believe your friend would have trusted me." Sev said in a controlled enough tone that it was as if he didn't mind talking about the bot at all. "I am on the opposite faction, on top of that, I am a type of drone." He went on, "I also would not have any logical means of being able to know he wouldn't simply stab me in the back once I turned around. This is war. The value for either side's life has declined. They kill us as much as they possibly can, and we do likewise." Sev had a tinge of bitterness in his voice. The placidness in the mech voice was gone for a second, as the warrior side of Sev made another vocal appearance~
This guy didn't have any reason to believe that Bumblebee wouldn't have attacked him.. How strange it had seemed to Sari, especially when she knew that Bee was only trying to protect her and Russell at the time. She knew that the Decepticons were the bad guys now, the dangerous ones, and for that she was grateful. But this guy.. something still seemed so weird about him.
"You could've just asked. I'm sure Bee would've listened to you if you had said that you weren't going to hurt us."
But then there had his been his other statement. Sev had claimed that neither side cared for the other's lives, and would try to kill each at any given moment. Autobots weren't like that, at least.. from what she knew. They were the ones fighting for peace and such, and they were supposed to fight at a last resort. Had there been something she had been missing in regards to the history of the Cybertronians?
"That.. doesn't sound right to me. Bumblebee and the others.. they wouldn't outright kill somebody! I know that they wouldn't. They aren't like that!"
Sari sighed to herself, arms crossed as she stared at the Vehicon.
"You're going to make sure that I don't leave now that I'm here, aren't you? So that I can be some hostage or something?"
This human was causing Sev to feel sorry for what he had clearly told her: the truth. The facts were lining up. The way she talked about her Autobot ‘friends’, the way she avoided the thought of death told Sev she hadn’t seen battle. Oh, the shock, pain, and brutal realization of his first battle still scarred his own spark. His own battle scars weren’t going to let him forget any sooner than his memories.
“Lots of pleasant things about a person disappear when its time to kill.” Sev said simply to his company. “Asking Bumblebee anything wouldn’t have worked either. He has no reason to trust me either. He could just as easily labeled my claim as a ‘Decepticon trick’ and shot me on the spot. Since he recognizes me as a grunt, I doubt my death would mark his conscience.” Sev answered. Breaking it to the human the ‘other side’ of the story likely wasn’t going to be something she accepted. Sev saw the look in her eye when he told her the likelihood of how the previous scenario may have turned out. A part of him wanted to keep telling her the gritty truth, but his words were heavy in his mouth.
Who was he to tell her of all these sad things? She was a small human girl. Her face bore no wrinkles, meaning she hadn’t seen many winters. Just because he’d been through heck didn’t mean she had to. She was young anyways. Maybe it was best if he played her game, offered something to feel reassured at. He mentally scrounged his helm, before she said ‘You're going to make sure that I don't leave now that I'm here, aren't you? So that I can be some hostage or something?’ Sev jerked forward slightly, almost coughing. “Of course not!” He exclaimed, “I-I mean no. I can see how maybe you’d think that since I’m ‘the bad guy’. Though it’s agreeable you’d make decent bait for-“ Sev put a servo to his face plate, shaking his helm. Him and his big mouth. Note to self, use a wrench to tighten maxilla and mandible joints. Great. Not only had he just exposed this human to a bit of a war mindset, but he’d told her how valid her recent statement was. “I wouldn’t want to.” He clarified. He couldn’t bring himself to say much else. Now what. The mech thought to himself, wondering if the human was cosndiering screaming off to call her friends. Within his helmet, his eyes darted towards the sky, as if to ask for guidance. That’s when he noticed something odd.
The small screen in the corner of his visor had picked up some small faint signature of some sort. Sev returned his eyes to the human. “Sari, what kind of energy do you humans run on? Besides your foods?”
Sari still didn't see why killing anyone was necessary. Maybe it was just her young age, but surely there was some way that the Autobots and Decepticons could see reason and drop this silly war? But at the same time, she just had to wonder. Would Bumblebee really have written any attempt of Sev's to show he wasn't out to harm anyone as a Decepticon trick? It didn't seem like something he'd do, and if she remembered what she had learned about the Crown City crew correctly.. hadn't Grimlock been a former Decepticon?
The human gave the Vehicon a skeptical look as he began to say she would be good bait, only to cover his own mouth and shake his head.. as if to say he hadn't meant to say that. How quick he was to change his mind, and Sari wasn't trusting him quite yet. Better to be safe than, well.. sorry.
"Good, because if you did kidnap me, I wouldn't be the best company." Humans had needs too, whether it was sleeping, eating, having fun, or just going to do their business. She knew full well how to abuse that system, and she would use it to her advantage in the event she was captured.
But then he asked her what it was humans ran on. He seemed to know about food, but wanted to know what else there was. Her skepticism shifted, letting out a soft chuckle as a smile grew. "Uhhh, food. Duh! We also need plenty of water, but food's a must."
